The edge of this solar system?

NQ mentioned that someone flew out a considerable distance in alpha and had to be rescued - beyond all the planets.

I wonder if they plan to model all the space between systems. When you get far enough from the origin point coord systems in computers start having huge round-off problems. That's the main reason for limits on level size in most games. I expect each star system will have its own origin point and coord system and they will some how "fake" the space in between. Once you get out to space that would take a year or more to get to in normal flight, there's really no need to model it, because no one will ever be there.

Just curious if anyone has flown to the edge of this solar system.  Does it have an invisible wall? Doe is kill you and you ship disappears?

Any video of someone flying to the edge?

Back in alpha there was a guy that went for a  week or so.

To our knowledge, The DU universe expands forever, being forever empty except on what NQ as placed.

Edit: or at least until the coordinate system maxes out its variable.

There are rumors that some have found uncharted planets, but in a raw state of development (no ores, just spheres)

The star circles the universe from an infinite perspective, not having an actual body, just an infinite plane texture and a light source. So, it does not matter how much you fly, you would never be in the star trajectory.

It is unknown if this will change when the next star system is added.

Unigen2 has a 64-bit coordinate system...so could go pretty darn far before hitting limits.

Assuming 0.001meters resolution the universe could expand from

-46 116 860 200 SU

To

46 116 860 200 SU

Taking 35 073 years to reach the "border" (more probably a game crash) at 30000Km/h (max non warp speed)
