Hades got a reaction from Hotwingz in Issues with game development based on pledges
Yep, but they will continually rear their heads I imagine.  I never understood the "not paying for a game/development" trend that's popped up in the last few years.

I personally want the best damn game I can possibly get, and (even though I have ruby) I will be purchasing a sub through dacs.  I can't imagine I'm alone in this.

I can't recall a single f2p or b2p (one time payment) game that I have enjoyed enough to continually play within the last 5 years.

The fact of the the matter is, in order to make a good MMO you need a sub.  It's even better if f2p players can snag a sub for in game assets... win win.

    As an aside:
It would be really nice if NQ could implement a DAC subscription for us... and perhaps that's already how subs will work. You get a DAC, rather than game time on your account.  I haven't paid too much attention, as that's a long ways out

Couldn't have said it better myself. NQ will have to step in if there's excessive abuse of their "freedom for the players" stance. I don't doubt that for a second, as they did state their current stance on the issue has problems.

    *sigh*

I never said you want to paint the world with genetilia and derogatory terms.  I am merely saying, that just like EVERY other online game NQ will be the sole judge, jury, and executioner.  There WILL be censorship, and it will be handled by them.  Nowhere did I say I was going to be making any decisions, that would be asinine and I assumed you would know that ^^

NQ has the right to keep their game clean, however they see fit.  And that will involve punishing genitilia and derogatory behavior.  Just like it is in every other single online MMO.

If you've played any online game before, you've gone through this process.  The only difference is the addition of visual additives in DU.  However, this has been seen in other MMOs with voxel or player input.

    It's a non-issue.

If you're not singling out people, tearing people down, or being derogatory.  You have nothing to worry about.

The cool thing about a sandbox MMO is there's no cookie cutter way to play the game

I personally don't want to be looking at dicks, "cunt" "fucker" "pussy" "lololofaggot" written into a mountain all day.  It would ruin the immersion of the game, as well as the taste.

Thankfully, I don't think it will be that prevalent of an issue... and once the first few culprits are warned/blocked/banned it won't be much of an issue.  I imagine it will be quite rare, and the "censorship" will be an aftermath type of thing.

The reasoning behind my argument was based on one big assumption: the information written in the community portal is self-regulated.  Meaning that it is also self- promotional.  The purpose behind having a community wiki or equivalent outlet is to have a source of neutral information about player organizations, cities, etc.  In my opinion, a wiki format is perfect for this sort of endeavour because it allows by default anyone to add or edit pages, but it's incredible easy to review that work, and selectively undo edits that people make.

What that means to me is yes of course you would have people trying to turn their pages into advertisements to say they are the greatest organization in the universe, and others trying to delete entire pages, but all of that is tracked and can be undone at the click of an administrator.

I don't think anyone has an intention of trying to replace the community portal's function of providing a home for every organization to self-organize, recruit, and such.  The community wiki is intended to serve as an addition to both the community portal and official wiki.  The community wiki pages will link back to the community portal and there will be obvious banners and such explaining that it's unofficial community content, while providing a link to the official wiki.

For those that want a community wiki with a place to record history, locations, organizations, whatever....

I've just created this wiki: http://dualuniverse.wiki/index.php/Main_Page

If anyone wants to help set it up let me know, otherwise you just need to create an account to have permission to edit it.

It still needs a better logo and tons of pages need to be created, otherwise it should be functional and usable at this point.

If you don't want to use it that's fine, just please don't go out of your way to berate me for doing this for free.

They are terms used synonymously right now. When people talk about the "wiki" they are referring to gamepedia (the official wiki).

Best bet is just to boot camp it.  I can't imagine you'll have a great time without a dedicated graphics card, however.

Although I don't think organizations should be on the wiki per se, but I do think well established cities/fortifications should be.  This allows players to know where civilization is in the bigger picture.

When the the game reaches a point with countless planets and exploration, it may seem daunting to find civilization and structure for new players.

As for your last point, that seems to be the case with every last feature in dual universe.  The sheer amount of care that goes into this game tells me it cannot fail.

I would like to compliment the artists who are designing the elements.  I thought the early placeholders where good, but when I see the recent designs, I am impressed that they have become even better.  In a science fiction setting, it seems easy to make things appear either too mundane or too fantastic, but I feel the artists are getting the balance just right and giving the elements a strong sense of believably.

These are obviously very talented people who put a large amount of care into their work and I thank them for their contribution to DU.

Not until after release.  They have stated they'd like to add it after release.  However, there's always the possibility it becomes too much of a beast to implement.

If that ends up being the case, I'd truly like a very rough implementation with a very in your face warning about how rough it is.  Or, I imagine someone will find an unofficial way to get DU up and running in VR ^^

Either way, long time down the road.

    Edit:
Baha "in your face", aren't I funny?

I would say, common sense. If someone is crossing the line they should intervene and they will. Because no matter how much we love to detach ourselves from RL and live rest of our lives in imaginary world, reality is here on the ground and we must act accordingly to our social standards.

All I'm counting on is NQ will not use a ban hammer blindly.

There are other considerations, but if we focus only on what would make DU a more realistic simulation of a civilization, then I think a certain amount of censorship by the developers would be good.
Ideally, what happens in a simulation, should not be affected by what occurs outside of it.  For example, a program that simulates weather systems should not produce different results depending on whether it is raining or sunny where the computer it runs on is located.  In a civilization simulation, the actions of the people should only be influenced by events in the simulation.
In DU, where the people are players in a game, that is not possible.  Their actions are influenced not just what happens in the game but also by events in the real world and by their knowledge that they are playing a game.  It is not possible to eliminate the knowledge the players have of the world outside the game, but if the developers prohibit content that does not fit the setting, they make it a more accurate simulation.
This would be more apparent in a game which had a historical setting.  Then if players were allowed to build things that did not yet exist, it would clearly be a poor simulation of that time.  Since DU is set in our own future, there are not as many limitations.  There would probably be still be some people who knew about anything we are familiar with today and it would be reasonable for them to recreate things from their past.  This means most things will not be a problem in DU's setting.  However, when anyone makes something in the game just to offend other players, those players will tend to react to it as a real world aggression.  Prohibiting such things will let the players focus on events that have meaning in the game and make it a better simulation.

That's not how it works with online games though of any kind. The Dev is more like the government then a god. They create a system of rules and policy and we the citizens err players have to follow those rules. A better analogy is a simple private business and its customers. They provide a service and we pay for and use that service and we can continue to do so as long as we follow their rules.

Yeah gl with giving people in a game so much power. It'll only be abused and the game would be dead soon. People would ban players for shits and giggles.

    To the other points:
NQ made their decision and to me it's a good one.
I want this game to be known for gameplay, huge cities, fights and ships and not for swastikas and adult material.
Every extremist position (may it be left or right, free-speech fanatic or consorship-fanatic) is bad to me - we can't live in that wonderful dream to the fullest with such mindsets imho.

    Yep this.

BTW, the whole "Freedom of speech" thing people always rally behind in stuff like this, doesn't even really apply to these situations. NQ and this game is a private entity meaning they can set whatever rules they want about how you use their service. Freedom of speech protects you from your government, authorities coming after you for expressing your opinions and protests of them. Private entity's can set whatever rules they want, within reason of course.
