I can relate to basically all of this. I went through the same thought processes, bought the same pledge for the same reason and had the same idea about gold accounts! Glad to see I'm not the only one

Yep. Like Lethys said, if you want it you just need to prioritize. It's not that expensive for beta

Agreed, ill more than likely put more money into DU as-well in the future. The potential of this game is what interests me the most and I'd like to see what they can do with it. Completely worth the investment i think. Just need to hope they can do it

Usually, its not a stretch for me to buy 1 full price AAA game a month, lets say its $59.99 USDs (idk what it is in euros sorry).
So I thought about what level of backing I wanted, and what I personally wanted to invest to help the game. I knew I wanted
as much possible play time as I could get, and I would have chosen Ruby for the lifetime, but I opted and decided for me it was more worth
investing the DACs digital Sapphire provided (especially if they grow in value). If 4 years of playtime isn't enough time to start having what I put together
to earn future DACs for me, I probably have bigger problems to worry about :/

Anyways, I simply chose to not buy any new games for like 4 months, and I realized Sapphire wasn't REALLY that much of a loss for me, especially if the game
wasn't coming out during that wait time anyway... Plus, its a game I've always wanted to see a reality, it's worth every dollar I put in to help make it a reality...
I've even considered buying some IRL friends Gold founders or just spare Gold accounts that I could give out to friends as I saw fit. No one took me up in time though...

Anyways, truth is, if you couldn't save $140 or so in the 9+ months (since just this year at least), I'd seriously say you have bigger priorities that you should be working on more than this game.

Lord_Void got a reaction from Shockeray in Will ALPHA (not pre) servers be up 24/7?
Yeah this is just for pre-alpha with the one day a week thing. They may open it up a few more times during the week depending on how things go during the testing, but until alpha comes out they will probably just be doing one - two days a week. Even in Alpha, the servers will probably not be on all the time. I predict they will be on a lot more during alpha (let's say something like 3-4 days a week, and probably in loner stretches of 24-48 hours) but that is really just a guess. They have to rent their servers for the time being, so any time they have them on it is costing them money (and not just in power and upkeep). This means that unless they are gaining from having it on, they want to keep them off as much as possible. Once we get to Beta we will probably start seeing them do a few weeks on at a time.

Exactly. Pre-alpha will serve more as a test of the underlying technology.

I was pretty lucky and came into some money during the crowdfunding stage but id always planned to go gold. Its like people have said before, you just need to make a few changes in your spending habits for a short while. Even the most basic of savings will be enough.

i don't see why no PVP in the pr-alpha is a problem either. the game seems to be more than just a PVP game, id go as far as to say its not the main focus of the game so not having PVP right away isn't that surprising too me

For the supporter packs to be cheaper than the now complete founder packs would kind of be a big middle finger to us all.

I'm not sure what you expect. This isn't battlefield where you hop into the alpha/beta just to play a fun free game for a while. This is a game where you can be a part of it's development, and actually help the developers make and shape the game. NQ wants dedicated people in their alpha, not trolls who are going to play it so they can trash it on YouTube for hits from their drama hungry subscribers.

Everything is worth what people will pay. I bought silver and am satisfied. Yama bought kyrium, he is satisfied. We all pledged what we did because we can, because it's worth it to us, and because we want to be a part of the game as it grows. If you can afford it but don't want to pay that much... Well that is exactly the reason NQ set things the way they did, they want people that do think it's worth it. And if you literally cannot afford it, that is unfortunate, and I'm sorry. But as a great scientist will one day say, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

I know that I am, and I will test, provide feedback and respect the no share on social media etc policy.
It is fully understandable why sucha policy is made.

I am fully aware of that the build won't be 100% stable, trust me, I know what a pre-alpha is.
My computer should be able to run this game at least near perfect in terms of performance once the full optimized game is out.

Knowing that JC had the game running on a slow labtop computer in a Youtube video, is good to know, considering my rig is able to run demanding games.
Following is what type of base I will be building.

@mrjacobean and @Lethys replies pretty much cover all the main points. To summarize: Anything a DAC can get you, you can get in game in another way (e.g. Diplomacy). DAC's don't create resources from nothing. The resources have to exist in game already and be in a decently near proximity to be useful.

Lord_Void got a reaction from Lethys in The Economy
That is not a market destabilization. That is just normal gameplay. You are thinking too small. No, a market destabilization is when the entire currency system becomes worthless, it's when there is a shortage of goods so severe that no one can build any new ships, it's when the entire economy shuts down and ceases to function. To put it in real world terms, it's when you are walking down the street with a wheelbarrow full of cash so that you can buy a loaf of bread and some one mugs you, dumps the cash and steals the wheelbarrow. Those are the things the devs need to prevent.

Oh? EVE has never failed? CCP has never interfered? That's funny. You should tell that joke to the team of economists that oversee and regulate EVE's market:
    https://www.fastcompany.com/3024392/meet-the-alan-greenspan-of-virtual-currency-in-eve-online
    http://www.reuters.com/article/us-videogames-economist-life/virtual-world-hires-real-economist-idUSN0925619220070816
The reason EVE has "never failed" is because when the economy starts to form a bubble or go into hyper-inflation or otherwise begin to destabilize, CCP has the forethought to quietly intervene, using multiple tools for manipulation including changing resource distribution, item recipes, subtly seeding the market, adjusting currency sinks and faucets like insurance rates, market taxes and industry fees, or offering deals on PLEX in order to increase supply.
Yes there have, but when it goes past a certain point CCP steps in and helps to deflate or raise the prices. That is, as you say, "part of the EVE meta".

If we want this game to succeed, NQ has to be able to adjust the market enough to keep it from going into the extreme failure zones. Should there be fluctuations and allow for minor 'crisies'? Sure, that's what makes it fun. But if things get too far out of hand people will leave in droves.

In my view, my idea would allow for less interference because the system would be essentially self regulating.

I see your point, but I think the key thing is balance. Combat is not totally free for all since there are a number of systems that affect it like safe zones, RDMS tags, shield generators (with possible timers), and territory controls. Sure none of that will let you entirely escape combat but it will allow you to properly manage your risk when used properly. When people want to add more restrictions on that I think they are pushing it more into the realm of stifling content. On the flip side when people want to lift a bunch of restrictions on combat I think it pushes it more in the direction of chaos. There needs to be balance between order and chaos and I think the combat mechanics they have in mind are currently pretty well balanced, so I am against major pushes in either direction.

The economy on the other hand is out of balance as they currently envision it (in my opinion). It tends to far towards chaos. As fun as perfect freedom sounds it will result in financial crashes, large scale market failures (like monopolies) or other adverse affects. This might be fun for a few people but for most people it would be annoying/unbearable. Specifically, they need to be able to manage the monetary policy of the game to prevent rampant inflation/deflation. They also need to be able to ensure their is ample circulation of resources so that the game doesn't seize up from the lack of some rare material. How they currently plan to control this, I don't know and that is why I'm worried. The economic model currently envisioned does not provide adequate means for people to control their risk.

No one wants NQ tightly regulating the market and controlling the prices, but they need to be able to oversee things as a whole and make sure the system doesn't get destabilized. They need to prevent the system from swinging to far to the extreme. You may think having the entire economy fail and cease to function sounds fun, but it's not.

Lord_Void reacted to Soarnir in A year and a day. What an experience
    Hello fellow conscious being,

As of the writing of this post, I’ve been a part of the DU community for 366 days (since 12th September 2016) (allowing for time dilation), the early Kickstarter days of DU. Although that is certainly not an achievement compared to many others of this community who have been here for two years or more, I have seen the good the bad and the ugly of this community, the former of which has been the most prevalent to me. I’d like to take a couple minutes of your time to both finally introduce myself on the forums, and to provide a commentary on my experiences with this awesome community.

My name in this virtual universe is Soarnir, I found Dual Universe through the Kickstarter campaign while casually browsing through the games section of the website. The name was catchy and the goal was interesting, one click later and I’m reading through the entire page, enthralled by the prospect of a video game dream coming true. I wanted to know more, see how far the game had come, what the community was like. A couple seconds later and I find the forums and the community site. Impressing me was the development so far, that the meta was so evolved was astounding to me, especially for a game that no one would be able to touch for several months (in regard to the planned Alpha date then). I create an account on the community site on the 12th September 2016, and it really just escalates from there.

Perhaps I should introduce parts of the real me as well. I'm a gamer, through and through, I've hardly lived long enough to have experienced every type of game there is, but to say I have little experience would be a lie. I started fiddling with computers and hardware before I was 10, and built my first PC not long after that, all the while starting to learn the basics of programming by sitting in my school library reading through giant textbooks for different programming languages. Attempting to keep up my interest ever since, I've now got a fairly broad, yet limited at times, experience covering Java, web development, databases and server management. I have run several communities over the years, including old minecraft servers back in the beta days, helped manage forums and administrate/moderate several discord communities. I'd hardly argue I'm great, but I'm good at what I do, and I do my utmost to be approachable and attentive (even when people refer to me as the devil) of server chemistry as people grow to enjoy being a part of it. Now I'm in the midst of my gap year after graduating, and sleeping to 9+am for over a few months really does make you incredibly relaxed. But that's enough of that, let's talk DU and my experiences with the community.

Having used discord for over a year prior to finding DU, I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was an unofficial community one already up and running, and it becomes the first DU oriented discord I join, in the midst of the Kickstarter, no less. As you can imagine, and most of you recall, it was hectic. Nail biting, chart checking, the continuous discussion in every discord every day. The amazing contributions from many community members already being prevalent during this time, people reaching out to friends and contacts, getting people hyped more and more. New creations, videos, art, content, and more. It was absolutely stunning and thrilling at the same time.

In the midst of all of this, I find Cinderfall, or rather, their recruitment message on the unofficial DU discord, and the community site. Seeing that it was already fairly established, as well as connected to a large number of orgs, I decided that if I wanted to get into the proper political meta of the game, this is where I should start. I send an application on the community site and join the discord to be greeted immediately by Neopolitan and Astrophil, the directors of CSYN at the time. What I see is a truly impressive sight, over 10 organizations already established, taking part in an organizational umbrella, months before any kind of game will be released. A couple weeks later after several discussions and interviews, I'm one of Cinderfall's new magistrates, in charge of diplomatic action and the Grand Assembly. Being a part of such a politically involved entity and helping it grow has been a remarkable experience. Allowing for a couple events that transpired afterwards, like the ever famous Battle of Poolamoo (#neverforget) and some pretty hefty changes to the way CSYN operates, as well as several mistakes and learning experiences thrown into the mix. Cut to a few months ago, when I officially become Cinderfall's newest Director, an achievement for me, and a promise to continue to work to my utmost in all situations.

Alongside my work in CSYN, I've helped moderate and administrate the unofficial community discord since March 2017 as well as worked on a discord bot which was released in a new form less than a week ago.

I'd like to end on a tribute to the developers, NovaQuark, for helping foster this absolutely amazing community. I thank you graciously for showing the world that transparency truly is the key to winning over your players' hearts and that despite what other companies decide to do, you've proven that it is a healthy and sustainable model for developer-player interaction. I want to thank you for your incredible perseverance in a post-no man's sky world, and I applaud you for the way you've handled everything that's come in your way so far. I look forward with even greater enthusiasm than ever, to your continued support of the community.

    Thanks,
    Soarnir
