Yes people will want some simple tools to deal with the most obvious problems.
But this being a sandbox with this much freedom you shouldnt set too many hard limitations.

Just accept that there will be idiots, you will get griefed sometimes and there will be plenty of people doing stupid things like flying into your building with obvious phallus shaped things.

Setting hard limitations on such things will only diminish the game, not add to it. I'll even go as far and say GM intervention should be restricted to the most serious issues. Like hacking and similar offences that cross the line.

Its already a big thing that the safezone is non pvp.

On a serious note, big ass mecha-suits are a possibility. Ungine does support moving parts. Such as rotors, springs, hinges, etc. Theoretically, it is possible. How will it perform? Hopefully, better than that in Space Engineers.

    Hi everyone,

It won't be possible to deconstruct or remove parts from a finished construct. Primarily because we don't want people to tear stuff into pieces for retro-engineering purposes. This way we can protect smart players ideas and protect their Blueprint's value.

What might be possible after the game's release though is possibly adding new parts on to a finished contruct to improve it. We're considering that, and what impact it might have both positive and negative, so it's not something that's set in stone.

    Best regards,

I would be interested in assisting in this kind of endeavor. Also, I'd be interested in forming some contracts and "missions" to serve as a tutorial for new players, where experienced players can effectively mentor them through some of the game's processes. (this kind of thing was super helpful in Space Engineers, which was very intimidating for a new player).

Kurock reacted to BliitzTheFox in Cities
A city draws people in because of services and because it is cheaper. Services that require many people to be supported can only be in major cities as people have the easiest access to them. Typically in real world cities the first service any town is able to support is a bar (rough population 75-150) and a small town may have two before even a gas station. Bigger services that have more coverage such as lawyers, accountants, specialized dealers all must serve a larger number of people and area in order to stay in business.
The threshold is the minimum number of customers the market or service needs to remain in business; where as, the range is the maximum distance a customer is willing to travel for a market or service.

you wouldn't drive 30 miles to go to a McDonalds, but you would to go to a lawyer

Kurock got a reaction from Alsan Teamaro in Announcing The Interstellar Hovercraft Races!
I actually think all races (ship, hovercraft etc.) should be "anything goes" races with maximum 3 rules:
    1) Everyone starts together at the start line.
    2) Pass though the all the checkpoints in order and be the first past the finish line.
    3) (Optional - Depends on host) No outside help or interference.

Putting arbitrary limits on vehicles is pointless since if someone makes one too big, it wont fit around the track, and if its too small, it won't have the power required to get up to speed and accidental ramming does happen.  After a few races some will mimic the size and shape of the winning craft.. a survival of the fittest.

Hello everyone! You probably know that Alpha won't start earlier than in first half of 2017 and the fact you ended here means you are interested how to prototype your creations before we actually can do so in Alpha.   So, I did some research and forget Blender and other hardcore 3D editing tools. And we will start over from the Root.

Lamentations of Nazrole Chapter 12:13-14. The Kalnian Books.

I have always had a problem with tedious structure. From profitable, but snot-nosed mega corporations to the tiny, but nervous start-ups, they just seem to be addicted to mega-bureaucracy and exhaustive order.

Tsk. And I’m part of the crappy system.

Here I was, simply wishing to make a complaint about some idiot who decided to pinch my trousers while I was on the roof. To make a complaint, I needed to verify my identity (can you believe these people?! They didn’t verify everyone that left Earth while we were still there?), record or type the complaint (not without stating tons of useless information, of course) then queue up at a mile-long line for four hours and check back in a week for progress, because they were still setting up and securing the wireless protocols.

    Ahou.

I deleted the file from the makeshift tab I put together in a couple of days and walked off the queue. If these people were going to waste their precious time on an unnecessary process, I wouldn’t be joining them. I had more important things to do. Let the idiot that stole my trousers keep them.

“Heading somewhere, Satoru?” Jonathan asked me, blocking my path while at it.

“Yes.” I said and looked him in the eyes.

    He looked away.

Why do people always look away? What in the world are they afraid of?
“We need your help with something. Care to give us a hand?”

    Nope.

    “What’s it?”

He held out a funny looking kind of bag. What in the world was it? It looked like a space backpack from the early 21st century.

    “It’s a kadpack.”

“It sounds like it as well…” I muttered, feeling it.

    “Sounds like what?”

“..and it feels like something only the UN can make: horrible! What is it?”

He looked puzzled for a moment, but quickly regained his stoic “don’t care what you say” face.

“It’s a device that compresses matter and allows us to decompress it in any form, using this:”

    He held out a tube.

    “Interesting. I’ll get to work.”

I took the tube and “kadpack” to the roof of my home Section and decided to decipher it.

“You found something to interest you, finally.” Kuro said, and nestled up to me.

I smiled a bit and connected my gadgets to the UN-made or UN-affiliated device.
The data readings were easy to understand and within a couple of hours, I was shaping monoliths and statues with relative difficulty.
One of the outlaws from the proximal Novark area walked up to me.

    “You learn fast.”

His accent was thick and Russian. Every outsider is from Russia these days. Should I answer him? Mother told me not to talk to strangers…
I built up a mound near his feet, just missing him.

    “Stop it, Oru.”

I complied with Shiro’s soft warning and looked the big Russian in the eye.
He turned his gaze away as well.

What is it with these people?!

“You killed the Grand Architect, yes?” I asked him.

He eyes opened like a punctured can of pressurised gas.

    “No!”

    “Pity.”

    “Why is that a pity?!”

    Shiro quickly jumped in.

“He’s not on the best terms with the Grand Architect.”

    “That’s not true,” I retorted.

“He just broke the first law of survival.”

    The Russian looked confused.

“Never look for trouble in the Wild.”

His eyes cleared up a bit.

“He came to help us— “

“And he died. You killed him then. You couldn’t refuse his help and he couldn’t refuse the chance to be a hero. Both of you killed him.”

From the looks of it, I was freaking this one out.

“My name is Petrovsky. I’m the leader of the Resistance.”

“…Outlaws…” I muttered under my breath.

“Eidolon talked about you a while ago. He wants to meet you again.”

Shiro gasped and gave me a pitiful look.

“Good luck; you’ll need it.” She said and walked off.

I shook my head and followed the…Petrol-ski. That what his name, wasn’t it?
He tried to start a series of conversations with me, but after I ignored him, built up wood around his feet and shouted at him to shut up, I think he got the message. I wasn’t a hostile person, I just don’t like talking to strangers or people in general, especially when I’ve been awake for close to thirty hours.
By the time we’d made it past noisy populated and windy sparse areas, through damaged grass and between machinery, the foreboding sky looked exactly like Petrol-ski’s face: there was going to be some heavy rain soon.
He led me past armed guards and into a pristine Section where an AI ruled over and enslaved the men that contributed to its creation and continued existence. The room reeked of upper-class attitude and I could sense most of it was coming from a robot that shouldn’t even have emotions.
The walls were whitewashed and the floor was overlaid in black marble. A silver chandelier adorned with over-sized diamonds and sparkling sapphires hung from the roof, amidst pearl lights that shined even more than it did. The e-textile seats looked way too comfortable for the precarious situation that we found ourselves in and I just had to wonder how full of senseless vanity these humans and AI could possibly be.

“Satoru Masanori. It’s nice to see you.” Eidolon said, rising from the heavily ornamented white throne.

Seriously, robots that fly need to sit on thrones, even if they don’t have legs? Laughable!

I chuckled to myself and scanned the bewildered faces of the poor slaves in the over packed room.

“You are to reply me when I speak to you, Satoru Masanori.”

I would have looked this AI in the eye—if it had any eyes, and I could bet the Novark on this: it would turn its eyes away. An AI like this has many secrets to hide and it would need to hide some scars if it dared to address me in that tone again.

“I decide when I’m to reply to a piece of floating metal with a circuit board in its head.”

Jonathan shook his head and stepped out.

“You are socially inadequate, Satoru Masanori.”

“You are physically lacking in adequate humanoid body parts yourself, Eidolon AI.” I replied, trying to step out, until four guards blocked my path.

    Sigh. Not Io as well…

I looked Io in the eye and he looked at Eidolon.

“We are not done, Satoru Masanori.” The AI stressed.

I spun back and hurled Io’s gun at the AI, hitting it squarely in the middle.

    “Stop talking, Metal Head!”
The gasps in the room should’ve been audible for thirty miles round. Even thunder sounded its voice to add some dramatic noise to the scene.
Eidolon was clearly not pleased, and to be frank, neither was I.

“We were interested in your capabilities and intellectual capacity. We think you are what we need to move forward, in the light of Hisashi Susumu’s death.” Eidolon said calmly.

To be honest, this was sudden…

“You…want to make me the Grand Architect?”

“Yes. You already did cause quite a ruckus with the Defence Department. It was you that left Olympus Ariana into the forbidden area, wasn’t it? You caused some people quite a headache and their jobs as well.”

I looked at Kurotou, who glared at me.

“I don’t like the “didi”. Is that a problem?”

“Let me ask you a question, Satoru Masanori. Can I call you Satoru?” Eidolon asked.

    “No.”

“Very well. If you were the Grand Architect, would you have gone to the Novark the way Hisashi Susumu did? Would you have intervened on behalf of the Resistance?”

    “No.”

    “Why?”

    “Why should I?”

    “Explain.” His voice sounded tired.

“Intelligence should have gone first and scouted. The Resistance forces are simply being freeloaders with little to offer, no offence, Petrol-ski.”

    “His name is Petrovsky.”

    “Whatever.” I muttered.

“Protecting and organising ourselves is our priority. Anything else can wait.”

Eidolon turned back to the chair and paused.

“You are not someone I want to work with. I don’t like you. Let me be crystal clear: I hate you, Satoru Masanori. However, you are what we need: your mind and skill is what we can’t do without in the leadership position. You aren’t the first person on our list, no, you are the last person I would even consider. Nonetheless, you will be the next Grand Architect—rather, you are the Grand Architect.”

I whistled and smiled at a boiling Petrol-ski.
Outside, the heavy rain began to fall.

“Good. I have my first command for the lot of you.”

“Oh? So soon?” Eidolon asked, clearly being sarcastic.

“Yes. Reboot. Destroy and restart every single thing. Reboot from scratch.”

Kurock reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in How hard (or easy) will it be to earn DAC?
    Hi everyone!

We are aware there has been a very hot debate this week about the DACs being unlootable/not possible to steal from their owner. We apologize for the late reply (the Kickstarter campaign is something getting most of our time at the moment) and we thank you for your patience. We always try to find a compromise, an acceptable solution for different categories of players, without favorizing a specific one (because a sandbox game needs as much PvP players than non-PvP players). There has been a few misunderstandings and this thread is here to dissipate them. As we know many of you are passionate about the topic, there will be a few rules, to keep the thread clean and clear, easy to read:

    - No Meme. - Explain only in one post your point of view (and edit it if you want to add something). Of course this doesn't count for replying on further Novaquark posts in the thread. - No flaming, no provocation toward any other participant of the topic. If some these rules are broken, your post might be edited or removed without warning.
Apparently there has been some confusion/misunderstanding about what has been said on the Kickstarter page in the comments (it seems the misunderstanding comes from here). To the question: "Are DACs physical items?" the answer has been "No, the DACs are digital items". However, that was said in the sense "It's not a physical item in the real world". There have been so many occurrences about the opposite question regarding the "Arkship Passenger ID Card" being considered as a digital reward (while it was a physical reward, an item you get in the real world) that we apparently misunderstood the real sense of the question in the Kickstarter for the DACs.

So, to clarify: DACs are digital items in the sense there won't be any under physical form in the real world (like a prepaid card or something similar). However, they will be "physical" in the virtual world of Dual Universe in the sense that you will be able to move them from one inventory to another. It would make no sense if they weren't movable as it won't be possible to put them on the market.
This is one of the question that is still in discussion on the game design level: markets outside safezones, destructible or not? Possibly yes, but in that case, the way to handle unlootable DACs wasn't very appealing to the team (an item travelling through space to go back to its owner in case of the market destruction is a bit immersion breaking). However, there are several huge implications (and concerns) of having being markets destructible (and that's probably why it's not possible in EvE).
CaptainTwerkMotor sees the fact of "DAC being unlootable" as something making the DAC a "Pay-to-Win" weapon. We're not sure to understand how he came to this conclusion so we would like to hear his reasoning behind this. We hope he will answer to this question below in the thread.     You have a point in saying that some emergent gameplay would be missing. And you have also a point saying it could be acceptable to have DACs lootable if there was a 100% safe way to use them and/or transport them. So why something similar to the EVE redemption system hasn't been chosen right away?   The main reason was: game development time. Developing a solid secondary inventory system outside the game, tied to the account instead of a character, interconnected with the game and a payment portal at the same time, and all the ramifications that come with it... is something far from being trivial. It will take a significant amount of time to develop, to test and to be 100% sure the system is bug free. For the official release, the DAC system at the moment is supposed to be pretty simple: A player buy a DAC on the payment portal, he choose the character on which he want to drop the DAC and a moment later, the player can find the DAC in the character inventory.    As some of us in the Novaquark team are EvE Players, we witnessed the chaos that followed the introduction of the PLEXs in EVE. With our minimalistic system (at least for now), if the DACs were lootable, we expected to experience such chaos. So we opted for the DACs unlootable (unless there was a game breaking loophole). It seemed to us a quick and easy solution, quite similar to the EVE redemption system regarding the effects: as it was possible in EVE to transport PLEX in a secure way (keeping PLEX in the redemption system and dropping them only in safe, non-PvP areas like NPC space stations), we honestly didn't think it was such a big deal to have unlootable DACs. However, seeing it is for a large part of the community, we will aim to something similar to the Redemption system, as it still seem to us an acceptable compromise for every player profiles (even if it represents extra work). We can't promise it will be implemented at official release but we will do our best: CCP had a much larger team when they implemented the redemption system, and on our side, we have already a huge roadmap ahead for a team of our size. Moreover, it will be less painful (both for the community and the dev team) to start with unlootable DACs becoming lootable in the future, than the contrary.
There's something that needs to be very clear here: again, we didn't change anything immediately on a whim, just because some people had issues. We did it regarding our roadmap, and we honestly thought it wouldn't be a big issue for the community as it seemed to us there wouldn't be a big difference between unlootable DACs and an EvE-like redemption system. We still think the reaction has been disproportionate on the topic, but as a redemption system is still a good compromise for both PvP players and Non-PvP players, we are totally ok to go with that. It will just take more time to do it (and push back a bit some other features on the roadmap).   Loud voices without a well-reasoned opinion/feedback will never work. Loud voices won't influence the dev team decisions (we thought it was pretty clear with the Divine Reapers case on the forum)  Well-reasoned feedback (like the discussion here) can. That and game development time constraints.   Regarding Scamming: As long as it won't be a scam using a bug exploit, and have some way to be avoided by being a minimum careful and responsible, this will be up to the player (who supposed to be an adult) to not trust completely a person he just met. For all other cases, the Novaquark Team reserves the right to intervene: sandbox doesn't mean "letting the game turn into chaos". On a side note: Dual Universe is not meant for children. It has never been designed for them.    Regarding Griefing: Ambushing a player is part of the gameplay. Harassing some players repeatedly for any reason (be it vengeance, to make them leave the game, etc) is another thing. In this second case the Novaquark Team reserves the right to intervene: again, sandbox doesn't mean "letting the game turn into chaos".
You have a point here. And that's why there's a need to have 100% safe way to handle DACs, by making them unlootable or having a system as similar as possible as the EVE redemption system.
You made two good points here.
And the dev team takes this factors into account.

Credits will be immaterial and not lootable. Regarding character death, the current game design (it might change) is the following: When a character dies, it will loose all he has in his inventory. A part will be destroyed. The other part will be lootable.   Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Long story short, after literaly years of Minecraft and thousands of hours, I get little bored and was wandering to find some new amusement. So I stambled upon DU. Game conquered me by its potential.

As my little boring bio suggest, I mostly interested in design. Ships. Buildings.  It was temptation to make some mock company with fancy name and me as fist and only employee, talk about lot of fantastic things, but... meh. I will probably just work freelance and solo.

And I made little showcase project. This is light aerospace fighter, sketchy 3-day work.

Made with Blockscape. Game itself is complete crap, but works (and looks) good as voxel constructor. Bad side - process is mostly hand work "sculpting" (little or non instuments), very time consuming. And UI irritating as hell.

Generaly, I plan use this thread as some sort of portfolio, form client base, so to say.

I can't even begin to describe how much the OP irks me. It is not only misleading in some cases but downright wrong. Hopefully due to a misunderstanding.

NB: No Construct vs Construct combat does not mean no PvP. There will be PvP in the form of Avatar vs Avatar combat. E.g. Boarding crews etc.

NQ has been blatantly transparent as to what features will be included and when. One reason for this is to set expectations. If Construct vs Construct combat cannot be added due to (seemingly) budget constraints, I am happy to wait as it will be one of the first things added after release. Don't want to wait? Get even more backers.

Does not having Construct vs Construct combat right out the gates suck? Hell yes. We all want it. But even mentioning NMS is not helping anyone.

To me PvP is one of the most important themes of the game. Be it the market, PvP, CvC. I'm fine with only having PvP at release, we KNOW that CvC comes at some point. I'm not one of those morons, trying a game and start a flamewar because some shit is not in the game I would want to have. If it comes at some point, no objections.

Edit: they said all along that CbC would not make it in the release but was a stretch goal, that's good. They are honest. They need to keep the playerbase updated and they need to be frank with us

    That is just wrong.

I know it's rare these days but it is actually possible to create a product that is successful because it's GOOD and people are happy after they buy it.  Not just because of internet hype.
