  1. Who doesn't want to build a ship out of wood just to see what happens? Space Morgans anyone?
  2. Another for the Alpha. Great stuff. Keep 'em coming. Oh and welcome.
  3. DU appeals to a broad range of players. As long as its not mandatory and does not draw away from the actual game development, then why not? Is it important for me personally? No not really. Being able to chat in game for me is more important.
  4. Encrypted scripts are an idea for later rather than sooner. Though we can do many things when they are implemented.
  5. How am I not following this? Fixed. Time to wake up as a butterfly.
  6. Good luck, since there are others already consolidating smaller organisations, GLSU is an example. The more the merrier I say.
  7. I was about to say "I sense a coder" Welcome to DU. May your stay be a long and fruitful one.
  8. Short answer: We don't know yet. Slightly longer answer: I expect the containers will be protected just like everything else that is constructed (using RDMS, shields, barriers). Can you leave a container open for everyone to use? Probably. Can you lock it down for only yourself? Most likely. Can people break into a container that is out in the open? Maybe. Also... damn ninjas.
  9. Welcome to Dual Universe. I expect DU to cater for many different play-styles and groups. This includes the ones serious about the game and the more casual players. Which between Star Citizen and DU will have the larger percentage of "serious" players, well, time will tell.
  10. Engine exhausts should not be covered and should either render the engine ineffective or blow a hole in the construct, depending on the engine. An idea for engine intakes and heat sinks could be tubing elements which connect the engine to the "outside" of the construct. Also tubing looks good even if its just decorative.
  11. Welcome to the Nexus What is the Nexus? The Nexus is a group of neutral organisations for those who share an interest in a specific area of Dual Universe. Members are free to join and leave these neutral organisations at any time. Membership in any of these organizations will not interfere with membership in other organisations inside or outside the Nexus. What do the Nexus organizations do? They serve as meeting places for anyone and everyone interested in that organizations specialty e.g. exploration The are a place to obtain guides on how to get better at doing that organizations specialty. They have job boards which have actual work for the organisations specialty which goes beyond normal market trading. Think player generated quests. The organisations have no physical holdings or assets so they cannot be attacked nor go to war or have anything to do with politics. In short, they are neutral places to relax after doing jobs, a place to find those jobs and a place to find out how to get better at doing those jobs. Drillers Bar Here at Drillers we specialize in removing things from other things. Mostly ores from the mines but we also remove turnips from the fields, scrap from abandoned stations and sticks from rears. Drillers are the frontline in any economy, and we are experts at prospecting too. Come join us at the Drillers Bar, where you can relax, complain, share techniques and frak the hell out of...everything. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/drillers-bar DU Space Truckers Do you like to trade? Do you like to put your legs up and watch the stars go by as you cruise through the galaxy, moving cargo from A to B? Do you like profit? If you said yes to any one of these, then join us at were we talk about the best trade runs and how best to avoid pirates. But mostly this group is about hanging out between runs. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/du-space-truckers Bullet Chain I could not write anything for this crazy group, because I couldn't take a look inside for fear of losing, if not my life, at very least a limb or two. I was told they do "sanctioned wealth redistribution programs" and "space trash removal expeditions". But most just say they "blow stuff up" and for some reason they always add "at a price" and laugh. It's dangerous in there. Join at your own peril. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/bullet-chain Fullmetal Aegis There are warriors that are honorable and skilled. There are warriors that wish to protect the innocent and the weak. There are warriors that make the pirates pay for attempting to take goods, ships and lives. We are those warriors. Join like-minded individuals and trade stories of your brave battles against incredible odds. Join the honorable warriors. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/fullmetal-aegis Dual Universe Constructors Guild We build. Everything from the smallest hovercraft to the largest space station. From the deepest mine shafts to the tallest skyscrapers. We build housing for the poor and monuments for the rich. But most of all, we build not just because we are paid, nor because we can, but because we must. Come construct with us. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/du-constructors-guild Dual Universe Wayfarers We fill in the blank spaces. The blank spaces on the star map and the blank spaces in the mind. We have two missions: To map the universe and to map our skill tree. Come explore the Dual Universe with us. Join here: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/dual-universe-wayfarers p.s. While the Nexus is hosted by Cinderfall Syndicate, membership and administrator positions in these organisations may be held by anyone. Cinderfall Syndicate does intend to provide job boards and markets for these organisations within the Cinderfall Syndicate trade hubs to further aid their growth and sense of community. p.p.s If you made it this far, I applaud you. Come visit Cinderfall Syndicate discord and collect your free cookies. This has been a public service announcement.
  12. Ah, Twerk mouthing off as per usual with no actual idea of how the game is going to be implemented instead of giving constructive feedback, everything just has to be barbs and breakdown. You go girl. (Some slippage back into hold habits there.) That said, I am in favor of the simplest type of race suggested by Twerk: First one able to cross the finish line.
  13. This sounds like a job for the DICE technicians. There are many ways this can be done. The start/stop gate is plausible as long as it can read the time and the crafts ID as it passes through the gate. The script does not need to be on the craft itself, but maintained by an impartial judge that remains at that gate. Will there be games inside DU? Yes there will be. Feel free to pop by if you haven't already and leave your thoughts on what games you want to see in DU.
  14. Nope. "Interactive Block" means nothing to me. Do you mean... a chair? Examples would be nice.
  15. Safe zone? There is only 1. There may be another about 2 years after release. So expect them to be rare. Also the area they cover could be considered small relative to the size of the universe, but 20km radius area seems quite big in the beginning. Static cores should be able to be built anywhere tho, otherwise how do we get space stations? I don't see the point of building in deep space since it's far away from all those lovely resources, but that shouldn't stop people from having secret deep space bases.
  16. We know coloring voxels is in the game already. Maybe a "stamp" from a picture you provide that colors the voxels for you? Honestly though, I think people could be hired as artists to create a design you want in game. Because it's amazing what you can do with a few pixels
  17. Congrats to the winners. Alpha Team Members are those in the community who are considered by NQ to have contributed to DU in a meaningful way. There have been two waves of members added to this list (before the Kickstarter) and the third is coming soon. And being a member does give access to the alpha. 1st wave Link: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/336-members-selected-for-the-alpha-team/?p=1270 2nd wave Link: https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/336-members-selected-for-the-alpha-team/?p=18675
  18. If you mean leaving an organisation on the community site, there should be a leave button in the same location you found the join button. i.e. just above and to the far right of the Posts, Descriptions, Members tabs. You do need to be logged in though.
  19. Definitely a good idea if the server technology allows for it. I approve but don't think we will see anything like this any time soon. Whether the weather be fine Or whether the weather be not, Whether the weather be cold Or whether the weather be hot, We'll weather the weather Whatever the weather, Whether we like it or not.
  20. I think it's more about expectations. For transparent voxels set in a flat plane, I would expect to have very little distortion. While transparent voxels set into strange shapes and around corners, I would expect quite a bit of distortion. On skyscrapers, one would like tinted/one-way windows. Windows that one could see out of but not necessarily into. But how would one accomplish this with voxels? One method could be to have a normal transparent voxel sandwiched against a more reflective but still transparent voxel. The idea being that one could see out from the completely transparent side while from the other side, the reflective voxel will take precedence. This could be further "optimized" as on the further LOD models, the reflective voxel could lose its transparency and save on a bit of graphics processing. The idea is that one could only see inside with ones nose pressed against the window but one can see outside from any distance.
  21. Exact fee structures have not been decided but the idea is that when DICE organizes an event, that event will follow the rules, as laid out by DICE, to ensure a fair and fun contest. Fair does not imply there won't be dangers, though. Everyone will know the risks before entering. You can have a look at the community page for the first version of the hovercraft rules. The hosts of the event will have an amount paid to them, call it rent or royalties, and that will be negotiated with the hosting organization. This also ties into the level of "control" required by the DICE officials over the game area. I expect there to be minimal control required as the officials are there to serve as observers, referees and impartial judges. And yes DICE will take a small fee for their involvement but this will be a small percentage compared to the amount of prize money awarded.
