  1. Welcome to the forums! Mentioning other games is absolutely fine, especially if you are talking about how it might pertain to Dual Universe... Unless the reason you don't want to is because you are afraid of staring a roasting session. In that case, don't worry, they've all been compared already. We are all looking forward to Dual Universe here, glad you could join us! If you are considering starting a discussion post, please search around before making the post to ensure that it has not already been answered, because there's a good chance it has been. Welcome!
  2. I believe it has been said though that players will be able to discover other Arkships. These ships may be defunct, or they may be able to be activated and turned into a new possible spawn point for new players. However, what everyone has said in this thread is true. In order to spawn at these Arkships, players will have to reach them first. I imagine it would then act just like the original Alioth Arkship, with a protection zone, and then allowing players the choice of where to spawn. But beyond knowing that it has been said that finding new arkships will be possible, everything is speculation.
  3. It's awesome! Neat idea. Video volume can never be too loud; if it's quiet, and you want it louder, that sucks. But if you want it quieter, just turn down the volume! 0 volume is complete silence, so there will always be a comfortably low volume.
  4. Seems pretty neat; being apart of a secret organization that has influence in some areas of the game has awesome appeal. There could even be actual conspiracy theories! My question is, would you leave a "secret" organization open to anyone in the first place? If you don't trust the members, then you don't know for sure that it's being kept secret; I mean of course you can't advertise a secret. Or is what you're trying to do really just make an organization with a public goal but where only you know who the members are?
  5. Welcome to the forums! Glad you're here. How did you happen to come across Dual Universe?
  6. Man, people on these forums are old.
  7. I imagine there will be; after all, what would be the point of differentiating between them? The beta will be open to more players, and the alpha players will have done lots of testing; thus, I feel it would be NQs style to at least make a very thorough update between alpha and beta. All speculation, of course; there most likely isn't a definitive plan for this yet.
  8. I have a few thoughts on this. First off, heat sinks really don't do much in a static environment; they need to be cooled off themselves with a moving fluid, whether it be air or liquid. So simply making "space" around them doesn't make much more sense in the first place, because you are then simply coating the reactor in air rather than another material; sure, it'll take longer to "overheat", but from a scientific standpoint it's really the same thing. Secondly, if people don't want spaces on their ships, then I don't they should be forced to include them anyway. In battle, constructs will be damaged, and their elements will need to be repaired. If an enemy figures out where your main reactor is, and it happens to be buried in your ship, then you're going to have a hard time reaching it to repair it if you don't have alternative access to the the reactor besides the hole they blew in your hull. Same thing goes for other elements; if you stuff them up inside of a ship, then it's going to make it problematic to reach them later. Thirdly, I am interested in the prospect of overheating elements, but I think making it dependent on the space around them would get unnecessarily complicated.
  9. Another option would be to only allow certain people to be able to upload images, particularly those who would have a need for it. Those in charge of large organizations could be given the permission to be able to upload their choice of image into the game. This wouldn't be too difficult to figure out in terms of who gets the right, as the only people who you would want doing this would be "famous" anyway, because they are the head of the organizations at the top of the list.
  10. I can see your opinion is not going to be swayed. I believe NQ has an ability to look past their next paycheck, as I believe they really care about the game and it's longetivity. I never said anything against country flags; I see no lack of seriousness and only a little bit of immersion broken with that, and besides, it would be trivial to create a "flag" out of voxels. NQ have said that they want the game to be garnered towards a more serious audience. Maybe that doesn't mean the game itself will be taken seriously by all, but regardless, that is what they said and that is what they are aiming and hoping for. I'll try and find where they said that after I post this and if I can I'll edit it in... But definitely no promises. Again, you have a very strong opinion, or perhaps you just like the argument. Regardless, everything sentence you type has a very condescending and negative attitude, and thus I have absolutely no interest in having further conversation with you about this.
  11. This really doesn't make much sense. NQ has stated repeatedly that there will not be aliens in the game. Why? Because it's immersion breaking. If most people wanted to play as alien characters, NQ still wouldn't add in aliens because that goes against the lore of the game and what they have said since the beginning. And I doubt that there will ever be more people wanting Hello Kitty (goodness, is this a meme now) cosmetics more than they want aliens... There are a lot of different features that people will want and desire that really don't fit the core of what NQ wants for the game. I feel that armor resembling tron or "scavenger Rey" is one thing, but suits of knight armor, unicorn helmets, and rainbow capes are just a little too far. NovaQuark DOES care what they throw in the game, they want the game to be serious as they have stated before; they don't want a bunch of ridiculous looking people running around everywhere a player goes. They want to take screenshots of populated to show their world what their game is made of; and when people are running around dressed in Hello Kitty outfits, that will have a negative effect on what they hope to convey to potential customers. NQ wants people to look at the game as a real-world simulator sort of thing, and to take it seriously as such. NQ isn't Ubisoft or EA; they care about their game, they want to make a good quality game for us that will last for many many years. And they're smart, they won't throw stuff in willy-nilly that might have a negative effect later. So, yes, NQ might just "give the finger" to 95% of the community at times, if that 95% happens to be people who are begging for a cosmetic of some stupid meme that will be dead in a month and which will leave a permanent and ridiculous mark on the game forever. Are people really going to cancel their subscriptions because their favorite cosmetic isn't added?
  12. I voted for things that you would realistically see in real life; you can see my votes as such. However, I did not like the last poll; you didn't give an answer to vote no to all of them, and I couldn't submit any answers otherwise. I personally think that cosmetic items should never have any affect on anyone. EDIT: poll updated, vote changed.
  13. I was thinking that the whole time. I do have a sense of humor, had someone done it I would have laughed!
  14. Frequently there are new topics which contain large amounts of text, i.e. people who type up a lot of what may be on their mind about the game, and then post it. People who reply to this topic then quote the entire original post in their reply even though they are the first one replying, and then they themselves may only respond with a sentence or two of their own. In situations like this, I think we can all figure out what you are responding to, without the need of a quote... If there are zero replies, it is quite unnecessary indeed to put the entire original post into your reply as a quote. The same goes for all of the first few messages in a topic. If you are responding to the original post, even if you are the third or even fifth reply, you do not usually need to quote the whole thing; a topic can be read like a conversation. A quote is for longer discussions where you are replying to specific other posts; or, if the topic is something like multiple pages, then it is of course much more appropriate to quote the original post. If you believe that if you do not quote the original post people may be confused with which post you are responding to, then in that particular situation it is more appropriate to put the quote in. Of course, if you are responding to a post that isn't the original, then by all means quote who you're responding to! The thing about these forums is that quotes are black with white text, and regular posts are a different shade of black with a different shade of white text. It is not always easy to immediately identify where a quote ends and where the post begins; and when I go into a new topic and see a three paragraph original post, then scroll down to find the first three replies are all quoting the entire original post and responding with a just few sentences of their own, it just makes everything a pain to read, especially on mobile (the desktop mode of mobile that is). I point at no one in particular, and take no hostile action against or have an ill feelings towards anyone that does what I'm advocating against. It's just something I've noticed a lot and feel the forums would be cleaner if people just put a little more thought into whether or not they actually need a quote in their post. That's the point of this whole topic; please just put a little bit more thought into what you are quoting when you reply. Ask yourself if it is really necessary.
  15. Exactly. Kurock brings up excellent points and arguments, but I am unconcerned regardless. My goals in DU will be things such as building spaceships and attempting to optimize their efficiency, Lua scripting, and messing around with interactive elements to make practical contraptions with them. Whether I succeed or spectacularly fail at doing any or all of those things, I won't mind much, as long as I enjoy it; I know no one can buy their way to innovation.
  16. At this time there is no official word on what tools there will be to aid ship builders outside of the game. However, the topic has been previously discussed on these forums; here is a post on the subject. Lots of people have shared their different opinions; I am personally against the idea. I think it would benefit those who really have a passion for ship building for there to not be an editor, that way the economy of ship building is more specialized.
  17. Yeah dude I know exactly what the issue is. You're using firefox. Do yourself a favor and get chrome.
  18. This questions was brought up in a Q&A and answered; there will be a way to report things within the game. It is quite a silly/uncomfortable question when discussing an upcoming video game, but of course extremely relevant.
  19. Jynx! Hopefully the new mods can merge my post into yours! I agree, very excited about the sensors, and about the orbital technology.
  20. Ugh I'm American and I hate everything about the imperial system (except temperature; Fahrenheit is a good measurement for human comfort). Especially unit conversions... Freaking slugs and kips and horsepower... Like come on. Anyway... They did show in the latest video that you can use html and css to create widgets with information about the construct you're in. So as far as that goes, I have a feeling you could make an option to switch between metric and imperial units, or just have widgets in imperial entirely. And ship cockpit interfaces are programmable with Lua. So I don't think you'll have much trouble interpreting things in the game as it will probably be easy to have non-hud information displayed in whatever units you like.
  21. Because there is always a relevant xkcd. https://xkcd.com/703/
  22. The general consensus is that automated mining, drones, and weapons would have an adverse affect on the community of the game. Restricting mining and weapons to be manual only will encourage team play and allow for these aspects of the game to grow and be diverse. Mining will not be just for new players; even a legendary player that wants to make a living being a fantastic miner can do so because the skills, knowledge, and time required can get extensive. Giving mining to drones will just be a time capsule for boring automation; you can't teach a drill to mine better. You could replace the skill tree of mining with the skills tree of making good mining equipment, but this is simply not the desired direction. With the direction being taken, there is no chance that there will one day be massive planet strip mining ships; even years into the game, players will still need to be at their keyboard to mine anything.
