  1. But is a good example of what happens when you don’t communicate or listen to your fan base. Also a good example of what happens when you move the status of the game based on finical decisions rather than is it ready.
  2. Do you want us to keep doing them and keep sending in reports, or should we give them a rest until you guys have had a chance to rework them? Its a beta but you guys don’t seem to give direction on which areas you want tested at any particular time.
  3. I want to roleplay a manager running a huge factory, but have to settle for a medium one as I can’t afford the schematics for a huge one. Maybe if I find FP’s asteroid and it’s full with gold I’ll be able to ? But if you keep working on it I’ll probably keep playing on it. As for roleplay, my toon would like more items for his apartment!
  4. Firstly, you guys are fantastic. This is a beta and you are treating it that way. You found a problem, you worked out how to make it repeatable, and you even determined what you believe is making it worst. I think PvP has a long way to go, and NQ has said they are working on it, but making ng the current experience better while they work on a long term PvP overhaul would definitely help. As for your research, I really really hope you are right; because if you are then a solution is already in the development chain. Shields! Now if we had shields, rather than having to calculate, and then transmit so much data, it would just be a matter of calculating how much damage the shield is receiving and transferring that. Once your shields are down, you would be back to lag and issues, but when your shields are down there should be computer faults, flames everywhere, handling and response out the window. How could they really push this to take the most advantage of shields? - make sure shields are as good, or slightly better than most honeycomb per kilogram of hit points - make sure shields are the same or cheaper than most honeycomb per hit point. If this can can be done then hopefully ship designers will put more weight towards shields than voxels when designing ships. Use the voxels to make good looking ships, but use the shields to add the armour, rather than layer after layer of honeycomb. Solution?
  5. Mid 2022 was last I heard; me I’m hopping for a beta by then and release 2024.
  6. Would really love to see the task list and priorities. Sometimes we feel a little left in the dark ?
  7. They need to fix the combat engine first. PvE would be just as painful under the current system. A recent post believes the problem is keeping up to date with the damage caused to the voxels. Maybe they need to - limit (more) the guns per seat - dramatically slow down fire rates - shields, less voxel damage, just a strength reduction to help?
  8. A lot of us feel things would be a lot better if there was more engaging the community from NQ. Often SB is pointed to as a comparison. I hope NQ listen to these requests and take heed. But fare not, it’s not just just who are in the dark, the guys over at ED are getting a hammering recently as well with the terrible release of a DLC what didn’t even do what the community actually wanted. ObsidianAnt recently released a video of ED about how community communication and engagement could be improved for Elite. I feel a lot of this would cross straight over for NQ and the DU community.
  9. I’d love farming. But not now, they already have so much to work on. Maybe a DLC post release. You also have to determine what would be the point. Personally I’d have food. Not necessary as that takes away from the game for many, but optional and beneficial instead. What type of benefit, I have no idea. Maybe your talent training speed goes from 6/90 to higher with +1/+2 per tier of food used in the last 24 hrs or something. Add to the game by making it an advantage, rather than take away from the game making it compulsory.
  10. I like it that there is the reality that if you purchase a physical good, then it is at a certain location. Then again when I order something online, I have the item usually shipped to me, if not at least to their closest branch for click and collect. Maybe when missions come I’ll be able to order online and have it delivered. But I don’t believe physical goods should be magically at 20 different places around a planet without a charge, or at least a delay to move from on location to another. That being said, when the heck do I need to fly to another planet for a schematic which is basically a digital product! That I do t understand (logic wise, game wise I understand they want more advanced stuff to be more effort to get, but they already do that with the smeg price of some of them!
  11. I want farming of animals! Bring on DLC, I’ll buy it! But now I can’t even make a structure over 100 feet tall with dirt ? Found that out when my shipmwas just above fetch range.
  12. Not all of us, some can. I had an idea I was going to build in our city. I announced it. The government said they had planned on doing that as well but the builders hadn’t had time yet. They said I can make it privately but would I consider making it for the government instead. I said I wanted to make it privately so I could keep managing it and also have it as a source of income. We talked, we came to an arrangement where I make it for the government, I can use government resources to build it. I still get to manage it, and I agreed on a cut I wanted and that was fine. So some of us can negotiate. But on the actual topic of the thread, I think weekly bits of information about what they are developing, or why they made a change etc; engaging with us; would help the community confidence a lot!
  13. I suspect PvE will eventually come, as it is probably needed to keep casual players in a MMO. Even full on PvP players need a way to learn. Right now you can win by being the team with the biggest budget. More voxels and more ammo. PvE would be good for PvP as players can train up against ships they actually have a chance against, while slowly building up the talents, skill, and budget needed to go full PvP. Currently the main chance of getting PvP is if you join an org. Yes this is a MMO, but a lot of MMOs have a large solo base who does to join an org. Have to cater for them, and current PvP model isn’t. Will DU survive long enough? Well I fell progress, or at least communication has improved since JC moved. But they have a long way to go with a shrinking user base. They won’t get enough to keep developing by subs alone. May not even have enough to cover the server rental with subs alone. If they get a reinvestment of funds they will probably have the time to work through the issues, if not then they are doomed. What they really need is to get outside funds. Admit this is an Alpha still, return to that status. Stop charging people, because when you are charged, you expect faster results than development can currently handle. Probably best to go closed alpha, reopen the kickstarter, so then the only people playing actually realise it is still an a,pha, and not actually a release game . just my 10c worth.
  14. We really need to have an outline of the BPs displayed when we are placing them.
  15. Is it possible they have to wind development back a year or so and work on a different direction because something backend is just not going to hold up. But rather than do that they are trying like mad to make it work before they admit we messed up, we have to wi d way back and use a different approach ?
  16. Wish we could respec on live, rather than have to do our testing on PTS, which seems weird as this is a beta but we can’t test things like this without PTS.
  17. You were a great help to me and many others. Considering the effort you put in you should have been on the NQ payroll! Hope RL gets sorted and hope we get to see your return one day. (oh yeah and can I have your stuff?)
  18. NQ have said that the repair unit is not in its final stage. So hopefully non-destructive repair of elements will come. Ramming should be implemented. Having a L core hauler with 20KT of cargo crumple into a pile of glowing red elements because a XS core fighter clipped it while going slower is nut. They need to determine the amount of damage in the crash based on speed and mass, then spread it out between the two vessels. The little bug XS is a smoking mess and the L core has a dent on the front wiper.
  19. We keep hearing they are working on a PvP overhaul. I really hope they don’t mean just make it run a little better. This would make the current system better, but it wouldn’t make it good. There are already good games out there for space combat, you can do reasonable fun things in Elite. If you want to do it with your own custom made ship there is Starbase. NQ aren’t going to compete with those games or their studios budgets. If you aim it towards teenagers with twitching fingers and fast reflexes you are very quickly going to be dropped as soon as the next PvP space game comes along and they move. So they need to determine a place in the market to fill which as others stated above can be achieved with their technology. They also need to look at the other aspects of the game, therefore their gamers and try to link it in. We have a lot of builders and designers. So try to make a system where the build and design of your ship actually has relevance. Try to make it so their isn’t a one ship/meta that is only one to work. Make it so design designs are important for everything from how much you can carry to how long you can tank your way through an attack to your hit power. I as well believe a more strategic combat system would be the way to go. Already there are dogfights in space games. Try to come up with good strategy which can be influenced by talents, player actual skill and ship design decisions. I don’t PvP so my opinion is probably less than others, but I enjoy PvE and many of the problems they are facing would be the same if that was to be introduced.
  20. It got front page coverage when somebody stole parts of the market because NQ messed up their RDMS just a week after posting a message saying it is your fault, and not a violation stealing stuff if you mess up your RDMS. It’s not that they messed up, but how they handled it. I think that actually made it to some mainstream media, not just gaming media.
  21. A RDMS option to make a construct visible on a player’s Map-)Constructs menu would be fantastic for people who lend out ships. I’ve crashed before and even though I had total rights, I had to go ask the owner the location of the ship so I could go repair it and get going again.
  22. As stated these were just test numbers, not an actual reflection of final numbers on release of the autominers
  23. Sadly I can’t see that ever changing. Since cores/factories run client side, not server side it would be two much over head. If you load a core it has to all be downloaded, but if that core sends or receives material from another core, that core has to be loaded as well. So in a large interconnected industrial city all of a sudden loading one core would require downloading every other connected core.
