If DU actually lived up to the hype, it would be my dream game, the sort of game that I'd spend the rest of my life playing (or so).

The reality has not lived up to the expectations. Too many systems dumbed down and simplified; and mining is utter tedium. I basically just wanted a Space Engineers MMO with Factorio / Eve / and stuff elements.

And if you ask me why I'm sticking around the forums despite rage-quitting over a month ago and not really playing since? It's because I'm desperately hoping for a compelling reason to dive back in.

    Hey all,

I've locked this thread pending our review of both tickets submitted because, upon further reflection, I'm not a fan of the Discord conversation screenshots being shared here. It almost feels doxxing-adjacent to me; even if the conversation screenshots being shared are fairly benign, it's not something we want to encourage for privacy reasons. (We don't know if all those involved consented to having their Discord usernames shared here on the forums, for example.) This conversation also feels a tad "name-y and shame-y'', which is not accepted in this space either.

(I do understand that PvP will spark occasional org tensions, and that those tensions can make for excellent lore/entertainment for those watching. When emotions run high and org reputations are hanging in the balance, it's totally fine to come to the forums to talk about it. However, whenever there's a question of exploits, bugs, or complaints about any NQ staff, we'd really prefer that any "receipts" players want to share with us be done directly, either in the form of a ticket or via DM, so that we can handle it appropriately.)

It does look like a desync issue. Once I get final confirmation on that, I'll let you know.

I don't get why everyone is so happy about PVP now. It doesn't change ANYTHING.

    1) no L weapons on XS cores ? Ok, now there is no contra to 20 braindead gunners sitting on L Core ship. The most likely contra is them getting bored and leaving. I will still be able to evade them if I want to.
    2) No cube meta ? We will have a sausage meta now. I like cubes better than sausages. No, we will not use "beautiful ships" they are useless + repair unit is disabled so no way of repairing anything other than simplest designs.
    3) PVP is still meaningless and there are safe zones all around outer planets, people warp to ion, mine t5, warp back. Say hi to campers while doing so. So much sandbox.

For now, I will not even advise those who left to rejoin, there is no content here for real PVP or anything, just making it even worse.

    Edit:
For the "ow, I would like to try PVP now" guys. Let me predict your PVP experience:

    1) Build a ship from <insert name of sci-fi movie>
    2) Assemble a team of players all running around your ship barely knowing wtf should they do
    3) Leave safe zone trying to understand how the damn guns and radar work
    4) 5 hours flying around seeing nothing
    5) L core appears on the scan 2 SU away - finally !!!!
    6) You hear "core unit damaged" and respawn at wherever your closest node is. Forget about your ship.

You will not survive the alpha of 80L Railgun sausage and with lock range being equal across the board it doesn't matter what your ship size is. It will lock it anyway.
Some will try again, most will give up.

PVP is not decided by how cool your ship looks or how good you design it. Currently it's all about who knows more "well known" bugs and glitches like gunner-killer crashing, ships insta stop/accelerate on pilot kill etc. Add a total domination of L cores with XS unable to counter them - you get high entry price to very glitchy part of the game. No one gonna like it.

You can as well add another:

The Org I know scanned one of the moons, all hexes. Like 10 guys scanning for hours. They did not find the ore that is listed in the moon description.
They submitted a ticket that the moon doesn't actually contain mineral listed in it's description and explained that they scanned all the hexes by the members of their Org.

Response, after about a month was to check the internet connection....
Should I explain why no one of that org plays now ?

I haven't tired of building yet, especially when you throw scripting into the mix. But every voxel, element or liter of fuel I use, means I am also one step closer to having to go out and mine again. And that I am definitively more then a little bored of.

First off, I'm a PVP Junkie!  With that said, I personally think it's not the PVP that's lacking (not talking about the minor tweaks that need to happen).  I think its just fighting in general.  There is no PVE fighting.  Think about it.  Take ARK, ATLAS, MINECRAFT PVE for example, even the avid PVE players have stuff to fight and blow up to seek rewards.  We don't have that here.  It's not necessarily about fighting one another.  Sometimes its about just about going out and blowing off some steam and having some fun.  A person can only eat so many green M&M's before they say, " I WAN'T A RED ONE!"
I understand there isn't a true "endgame" to this game.  You are supposed to be able to build up however you want, use your imagination.  Again, even in Minecraft you can almost build anything you could think of, and there is still something to fight.  ARK, ATLAS, yes have "endgame" or END TIER" loot, but even on PVE they still have something to go fight.  I think the player base might grow more, or sustain better with just some of that basic content.  Some people hate mining, but would build a ship to go "farm" AI to get whatever they have off of them.  Ya, might not be efficient as mining, but still beats mining, and they also got to see something go boom!  To me that's a win win.

Yeah, good luck with that. Hype's members find a lot of bugs, some of them I hear are pretty egregious from the man himself but you won't be able to pry any knowledge from them about it.

Besides, if it is something that's harmful to game play like an exploit, then let the exploiters exploit while they can. You can tell them that they shouldn't do it and report it to NQ, but as NQ has already said, don't take to doing it yourself or you're just as much of a rule breaker as they are and subject to similar sanctions. Don't press 'B'.

While I'd like to hear of and understand these bugs myself as a fellow tester, humans being human will take any advantage they can get, including unintended game play. This is just one of the reasons why I advocate for a wipe on release and why I think a paid beta is such a bad idea.

You submit your side, let them submit theirs, do your job as testers, and all the players that will come after us will be better for it.

This is why surrogates should be able to train skills and gunner ships. Imagine if you had a surrogate pod on your ship with access to gunner stations, and your buddies could be off doing their own thing with easy access to a VR station, and when you find a target, your buddies could just hop in the VR station and surrogate spawn on your ship and gunner your stuff. Or you could open it to public asking for gunners (why not? options for emergent gameplay are good)

From the announced dev blog, any crash will now render elements "modified", 3 crashes make them requiring a replacement.

Plan A: 10 cans of hematite to crafting queue, AGG ship above District 6 market. Let's play Mario jumping on the turtles.
Plan B: Nanopack skills to max, Catalyst 3 full inventory, AGG ship above District 6 market, let's play Mario jumping on the turtles.

For those who are less familiar with game mechanics: If an avatar with mass X jumps on top of your ship while you are flying. X-20tons is added to your ship mass instantly. Full inventory of catalyst 3 is >3,000 tons.

    Thoughts ?

    I understand why NQ doesn't want to;

Allow industry on dynamic cores - so bases / static cores have a unique use Allow pilots of a ship to control their own guns - so it doesn't turn into a game where big ships are manned by single players Simplify the crafting process - so people specialize in what they're good at
And before anyone say how I'm just bad at the game, I can make ships / big ships / w/e really fast with industry or market, and I do combat, so no this is not a "game hard pls fix for me" kind of thread I really just want to see DU take off like how it should on paper so know that my rant comes with good intent and is not in a bad faith

I just feel like, and I know I'm not alone in this, that DU ask quite a lot from people in term of cost and time compared to what they get out of it.

Yes, being a part of a single shard universe and have your mark in it is fulfilling, but that's not enough compared to what we have to invest in DU, I know it's in Beta but still can we not use the "but it's still in Beta" argument here please for the sake of not saying something that's obvious, but of course feel free to do it if you feel like you have to just saying it's kinda pointless.

Don't you guys think if DU's formula is perfect (it's great, but not perfect) that it would already CRUSH all space sandbox / combat games out there? (like SE, Empyrion, w/e) but it hasn't. Like seriously, on paper all of those people would have flooded DU already, "oh but it's a different kind of game" like dude seriously it's a space game with planets where you can build stuff it's not really that different unless you make it different for some reason, or too restrictive.

Why can't we have industry on dynamic cores, at reduced speed, which I think would be a good compromise, and requiring the ship to stop (as another streamer suggested) so we can have a playstyle where people can have mobile bases? Which is fun, which is the reason why those aforementioned games do that, you know, because it's fun, doesn't make that much sense in term of ship/base usefulness balance, but it's fun.

Why do we need gunners, like seriously I run a community too so it's relatively easy for me to find gunners compared to most people but at some point people would get bored of being a gunner, like what, I can pay them millions of quantas maybe and I don't think it would be good enough still because even they wouldn't feel like they need that much money if they know they would need to find gunners to make a big combat ship work, it's not like they can trade the quantas with fiat currencies either, which JC really should do or facilitate directly through the DU website with tax or w/e if he really wants to make DU a "metaverse", because actual metaverse out there do that for a good reason.

Even in a hardcore game like EVE you don't need gunners to control your massive ship and you know that's kinda what most people want, they just want to be able to pilot big ships themselves, it's kinda far fetched to think gunnery gameplay appeals to a lot of people, it makes the game too restrictive for most people to engage in it and it's not like it's realistic either, it's the year 2900s where we have anti-gravity technology why can't we have automated turrets? Game balance as a reason is pointless if that balance is not fun.

The 'perfect' DU in my eyes would be if they somehow managed to smash KSP, Minecraft, Space Engineers, Second Life and EVE into one coherent game.

At least for me, if I imagine DU as it is today, but singleplayer solo, all reason to log in completely goes away.

It then feels like KSP but with less deep flight and building(in terms of functional elements, not voxel) mechanics, and that's something that KSP just does better.

Back to the original topic, why people are quitting DU.

People like this, frankly. The discussion about PvP becomes instantly aggressive if not hostile.

It isn't about articulating an opinion, it's about insisting over and over and over that the only opinion that matters is their own and that anyone that doesn't understand how important PvP is just needs to "deal with it". I've seen a lot of name calling and ranting without articulating anything of substance beyond a demand for PvP and an insistence that the game will die if their whims aren't met.

I don't really see the point in trying to create a society with people in this demographic. I know there are plenty of PvP players that aren't like this...but there's too many that are.

The PvP mentality seems to extend to every interaction they make with players in any context, and that just isn't fun or interesting for me.

Still don't get why you can't just say what was your experience. I mean, the gunner-killer bug. NQ knows it happens and it benefits everyone that we all know that this is what happens so we can compensate. It's not like we damage the "image of DU" by discussing a bug in a beta game. There are a lot of bugs, this is expected as the game is in beta. Making a list of it so everyone knows about it makes a level playing field instead of only Big Orgs knowing the bugs and being able to cope while rest are left in the dark.

    Edit:
It's not like a dupe-bug or something that can ruin the game and it is better to not share as people will dupe and economy will fail. It's some kind of glitch of ship just disapearing and don't know what, appearing elsewhere ? Did it stay there ? Did it see us just standing and staring at him ? The ship in the video was about 100km from it when it disappeared.

Thanks but I don't need any kind of reimbursement.

it would be nice to get an explanation from the other side explaining how this crap happened. It's obvious they know about things going wrong.

Where is the "I am the pilot of S/XS/M core ship" of that flotilla guys. Don't you want to come forward and help NQ fixing this and looking at your logs so they can see the bug and what happened ?

May be provide an info like, when you did that I had that and maybe it's because of that ?

The gunner-killer crashing bug is being reported since start of beta and is yet to be fixed but all PVP folks know about this bug they learned to compensate. Explaining what happened here can level the playing field too. Maybe we can understand what went wrong together but it doesn't seem anyone from AC/HYP wanna talk.
