We are not playing a game yet. My prediction is, the current setup has nothing to do with the one we will see upon launch of the game.
There will be reality check because conditions may be so much different from what most of us has in mind.

People joining orgs today goes by social media behaviour factor. Kind of sheep behaviour, meaningless value to org. Just raw numbers and the only good it can serve is to bound some people together.

If I can predict anything is that some of the active names here and now will remain that way. Influencers so to speak. But getting used to current setup is irrelevant for next 2 years.
You can hardly name any of org to be an empire today. They know and posses nothing, so they can provide and serve the same back to their people.

    Hello Dual Universe community.

    We are HOMELESS!

I know, there is just logo some short back story and some soundtrack prepared for our little organisation so far.
Most of honorable organisations having well prepared sections and structures, we are not there yet.

Instead there is a simple idea behind our group.
We would like to run some social experiment of the cashless society. Or rather Inspired by Resource Based Economy concept and see how this will go in brave new world. Don't be mistaken, Homeless stands for the fact we all have lost Earth, our home. But it doesn't mean we are going to be poor. According to the agenda we are actually going to be better off to compare to any other organisation out there

We are HOMELESS, we miss our home planet and probably will always call ourselves like that... because of that.
We know already, we will never find place like it. So our home is our ship in vast space or where our people are. We have no intention to settle anywhere yet. Lack of resources, melancholy of the world we left behind. But the primary goal is to build a society, claim resources and terotories of the vast space.

Core of the team is a bunch of 'Space Engineers' who played together in server called... well you guessed! HOMELESS!
Group of engineers trying to survive in outer space on random asteroids fighting against poor, and cruel physics

But we've made it, joined Arc ship on our own, despite not being invited to the party. We managed to gather our own resources just in time and join the fleet in great journey to find new place.

We looking to expand our Organisation. We prefer quality over quantity but any valuable addition to our team that shares our goals, values and simply have a fun playing together is very welcome.

    Backstory

Former crew of UMF fleet that got together to restore faith in humankind. Our ship was sent on final mining operation before trip to Alioth, but we were left behind. Never selected or chosen to be on board Arkship. Shortly before Earth was destroyed there was chaos and disorder among those who left. Humankind shown its worst nature once again.

The Group of Elite Space Engineers and Scientists decided to try to gather enough resources, seek new chance to get to planet Alioth. After following The Arkship trails and joined the rest of pioneers of this brave new world shortly after.

Remembering what happened back on Earth decided not to obey UMF rules anymore and create society based on the model that was born back in 21 century. We believe, that Project Reborn should start fresh. Abandon all old ideas that kept humankind enslaved for so many centuries. The supernova discovery was a disaster that not only destroyed our home but held us back from implementing new social ideas despite great technological advancements. It was always politics of fear and danger.

Now since we have fresh start there is a time better than ever to advance to the next level. Most of the population that survived was fed with wrong version of history, propaganda and brainwashed. Too excited of the promise of new life, to know, what UMF really is and what kind of future it holds for them.

We were the last hope of the old world. And we are the only hope of the new one.
Who does not know history is doomed to repeat it.
If you are awaken, if you remember, join us!

    Agenda

The Reborn Project proposes an alternative vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know in order to achieve a sustainable new world civilization. It calls for a straightforward redesign of our culture in which the age-old inadequacies of war, poverty, hunger, debt and unnecessary human suffering are viewed not only as avoidable, but as totally unacceptable. Anything less will result in a continuation of the same catalog of problems inherent in today's world. People of Antioch may enjoy new start, low population levels and last 500 years would render this idea ahead of it's time once again. But we are not delusional and remember problems that humankind faced and is set to repeat in new world.

    Values

Evidence shows that most of our behavior is determined by the environment we live in. Changing the environment also results in change in behavior in the long run. People remaining longer periods of time in a certain environment would absorb more from that environment and in time they will behave more in accordance with their surroundings. Today people traveled to the new world in search for an environment that they consider suitable for them — with others who share similar values.
The values prevalent in our society have been inherited from previous generations but the environment we live in is very different. Electricity, vaccines, waste management systems,  Internet, nanotechnology, space engineering etc... have contributed to a vast change of environmental factors but many people around the world today still hold on to the values of the past even though these values do not yield positive outcomes.
Our values are superimposed upon us through every aspect of our experience, movies, education, books, TV, Internet, teachers, role models, subcultures, religion, home life and more. The values given to us are to perpetuate the social system we live under. The manipulation and control is so subtle that we think it comes from within while being reinforced with notions of individuality to believe this.
What we need is a value system that corresponds with the physical reality and one that would facilitate our development towards a saner culture.

    Determining Values

Our values are largely determined by the culture we live in. Organisations around the new world offer different standards of living depending on the resources they manage but they also require their citizens and visitors to follow the established order. What might be considered standard practices in some cultures, in others these practices might be considered extremely socially offensive. Capital punishment is still practiced in many countries around the world today whereas in others, this absolutely ineffective practice has been surpassed.

Values are also determined by the methods of thought used in managing the people and the resources in a particular culture. Dictatorships often use theistic methods of indoctrination to make people believe that the established order works for their best interest. Democracies, on the other hand, use manipulative tactics to indoctrinate their populations into believing that individuals have an array of choices but in fact this array is extremely limited compared to what can be accomplished if humanity uses science and technology intelligently.

Nowadays, there are different socio-economic systems around the world but we can see that the values prevalent in all cultures have been inherited from past generations and are, to a certain extent, detrimental when applied in our modern society. For instance, forbidding contraception because of religious beliefs can have devastating consequences for a population threatened by venereal disease outbreak. Moving forward into a saner future requires that we design an environment that facilitates our social growth into an emerging global society.

    Designing Optimal Environments

The ancient values, inherent in our social structure from past generations, emerged from a hostile environment based on extreme scarcity. Today we experience a very different environment but we rely on an outdated value system which causes the problems that we experience in our everyday lives. In order to surpass this elementary level in our evolution we need to design an environment that reinforces constant value update.
In a Resource Based Economy the main focus is on the people and the environment. Producing a high standard of living for all human beings on Earth while restoring, preserving and enriching the environment around them requires the use of science and technology and also requires a higher degree of efficiency.

Access centers care for the needs of the people by offering all available goods and services free of charge. Automated transportation offers fast, safe and reliable travel across the entire city and between cities and interplanetary, for a fraction of the time. Education designed to bridge the differences between people offers different perspectives and facilitates continuous cultural learning resulting in overall positive human and environmental impact.

    Humane Values

The moral standards of past generations do not offer solutions for present social challenges. It is not enough to label people ‘good’ or ‘bad’ anymore as we know that environmental factors largely determine their behavior. Half of all food production ends as waste while famine is still a major problem around the world. Creating abundance of energy by using renewable sources is possible today but a quarter of the world’s population still lives with no access to electricity. Most people are still strongly attached to the notion of ownership even though they would prefer to stay in a luxury hotel that offers maximum comfort. We still respect biblical notions such as ‘Those that don’t work, shouldn’t eat’ even though most recent technological and scientific advancements that make our lives better result from the efforts of very few men and women. The present state of morality is outdated, full of contradictions and based on ancient practices that yield detrimental results if applied today. The methods of science can be used to determine a functional morality and this exercise will demand that we reevaluate our entire notion of what makes us human.

From the very early stages of human evolution, humankind has always tried, where possible, to improve its standard of living depending on resource availability. Evidently, some parts of the world with environments more suitable for human development have produced the complex social systems of the present. A couple of centuries ago humans discovered the methods of science and the result was exponential increase in the standard of living for a selected few. Today we are faced with a similar decision – to move forward to the next phase of our social evolution – an emerging global culture that uses science and technology to intelligently manage its planetary resources for the betterment of all planetary inhabitants. The incentive for problem solving will emerge naturally as people see the positive results of their contributions and they will protect the environment as they understand that the ideas for most solutions also come from it and our existence depends on it. Climate change, nuclear armament, increasing environmental pollution, and constant conflicts between individuals and nations demand that we use scientific tools and methods for problem solving as today’s global challenges demand a global approach from an integrated perspective.

Your idea is nothing but refined idea from a classic MMO games, you talking duels, mana, healers etc.

I'm looking at DU as opening to new genre of the games and the whole thing runs more like a simulator of reality when NQ set up some rules and we, as a players will come up with ideas how to organise stuff. As a minimum necessity, they have to came up with resurrection nodes. But restricting, setting or giving specific directions to the game mechanic? Especially combat system? It should be left as close to real as possible imho.

If we met out in a wild and killed each other, that's it! Defeated goes to Resurrection node, end of story here. muddling the system with graded armors implants, potions, mana or anything else goes into some weird realm category. This is not a Mortal Kombat nor Counter Strike or Battle Field. However you like those system in modern games I believe in a bigger picture of this project.

People will fight for resources, influence, territory as they always do with whatever they got, but we don't need a set of super hero abilities, graded gear and skills. Please do not turn this into that kind of grind.. ever!

OK, I will make it simpler for you. I don't like your idea because goes against the Lore Bible written by NQ. And that's my only guide at the moment. Anything else is ideas and speculations.

Is that simple enough for you to understand?

My opinion is not and should not be a source of personal attack. If you really want to show you are grown up man just apply this rule in your life. You have no way of telling if any person here has or has not expertise in any subject. So far, you only making assumptions. It's equally silly to do on an abstract subject free for interpretation.
And to be honest I don't give a damn what you think of me or others you throwing so many accusations towards. You should really go back to your own responses, read them again but this time swap a nick name to someone else. Maybe you can see your problems and who presenting condescending attitude here.

I think you are some funny guy that looking for attention, that's it. There is no hate mate, calm down, you actually make me lough

    Hater? newbie? Hi Twerk.

Not sure how you draw that conclusion. Last time I remember the hate speech came directly from you towards Polish community on any MMO game players in general. So calm down. I'm not looking for a sparing here. I'm sure about one thing, you can talk people to death. Maybe when you calm down a little you will see there are people out there who want to collaborate not only talk over others.

I wasn't aware fight system will be so advanced when comes to avatars. I was under impression that construct vs construct is THE main focus here.
If you read my response once again you may actually understand when I'm coming from. I know is hard when you focused on one direction only, and you know it's the only way because it's your way .

All I was about to say here, I like simplicity. If you walking around the city and someone will send a bullet towards your head your are dead. End of story. There should not be any extra skills, systems or whatever to magically make you alive come closer and kill aggressor with super-powers that he will not posses after at least 1000h of game play. In many MMO games the very fact there is such variety of skills armours and weapons is the source of harassment. But don't get me wrong here. What I would love to see instead is the harsh environment.

This way in such harsh reality players may actually start to behave. Because behind every trigger there are consequences. In some cities/areas I would imagine people may implement the rule, any weapons are not be allowed. As it is in real world. Some may choose otherwise. The worst you can do is to punch the guy. But in wild, is not the time you play a game should determine you are immune to another person with a gun. But the very fact he was faster to react and better in aiming. And all dynamics you pointed out yourself.

Sure we living in 26th century with nano tech, Some armour types may justify certain things, so the weapons. But if we can form a cube out of atoms of matter and create complicated mechanism out of it, I find it hard to believe/justify there will be such disparity in weapon and armour types.

Ability to drain a power, out of your toys, well if I think more about it, kind of make sense. As a general feature, why not.
It could actually help to control weapon use in restricted areas.

But idea that people in 26th century that colonised new world, the only activity they looking for is to kill each other, challenge in duels, fight to death on market square to show off the skills and weapons they posses. It almost destroys their own Lore Bible. People went there to survive not to kill each other. Sure there will be disagreement between orgs, politics will start to divide people as always, it may even leads to wars, but If DU will become a game when in the centre of City people showing off their skills and new armours, challenging each other on arena or something... It will destroy what I hoped this game can provide.

    Speaking of Lore Bible.
I would recommend you to read it again, even veterans of the forum (not only newcomers) must read at time to time to be up-to-date
especially Quantum branching under Science & Technology.
    https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/11/16/official-lore-bible/

A revival pills or any smaller amount of 'emergency energy' make no sense here.

I hope NQ will avoid turning this into DOTA in space or any shit like that. Because so far it looks like what you suggesting here.

    Hello everyone!

I found this game only yesterday. But what really brought me here, was the fact, that it had "MMO" in its description.
That made it immediately clear to me, that the creators have a large scale multi player deployment in mind from the very beginning.
Which was so important to me, since there are many games out there with so many amazing ideas, but they all fail when it comes to scale.
So for me those games are more proof of concept. It seems, that the time has come, where you guys can take all those nice concepts and put them on top of a rock solid technical foundation! So you get some big thumbs up from me !

The best chances you can get these days. NQ provided enough information already to convince many of us to get into it. After all disappointments we get from some Alpha titles that put us down this is the 'last man standing'.

    1. Because it's natural progression in games. Almost a dream game for many sci-fi genre sandbox fans.
    2. They have proved on devblog they know what they talking about.
    3. The videos they share with us backs it all up.
    4. They are honest, not promising miracles. But within technical constrains telling us what is possible or not.
    5. They are passionate about it.
    6. They are dedicated.
    7. They have been backed up by large community. By us. As long as this feedback loop exist chances are rising.

If they will succeed with this project I see new chapter in MMO voxel based games opening up. Many genres could adapt same mechanics. From fantasy, medieval you name it. One thing proved to be effective over the time. Vision, passion and dedication to the project.

However, personally I believe we should stay away from direct comparison to games we know. SE, EVE, Minecraft etc. It may only disappoint people, because players coming from these games counting on DU to be an upgrade of it, those will disappointed. They may look for wrong things here, familiar things. It is more like DU will have some of its elements. But you need to get a fresh perspective on it. There is NO voxel based MMO in any form on the market yet. And this fact alone is worth a try. There is no single game when players itself can shape the gameplay to this extend including building game world itself.

I will definitely try to replicate this in game:

It's efficient, modular and would be easy to do logistically and keep some design standard and consistency across.

But I rather wondering what the big city itself could provide. People gathering in central hubs for a reason. Jobs and trade opportunities is the key. So I guess if someone is running some hidden megalopolis in galaxy far far away that nobody even visiting but the builders themselves... I can't see a reason for it. Big cities must attract not only members of 1 organisation but others. Be open hubs in order to grow it's own economy. Must be well planed when extension is needed, otherwise it will be one big pile of slums that will loose it's attraction power.

What I hope for is that on the claimed land, my org will be not only able to build such city but also welcome others, give them dedicated slice of it to build, or rent pre-build place to live or run business. Then as a city owner I would need to provide some services to make this place attractive and secure. For attractiveness, provide some events, space for doing expos, tournaments maybe even some sport events. But for security... well, we all know what big city really needs to run. Not that long time ago we had riots in city like London. Imagine wild word web

So here is the tricky part. Would in-game system allow us to protect and manage it automatically? Or we would need to rely on people. If so... little shed will suffice.

I had some time on my hands to do my hobby. And I have to say this, it is fist time in my life I decided to share with you some tunes I've created being inspired by this game. Even created account on soundcloud, yay!.

I really like the music behind this project but I was trying to add more diversity. You know... some faction related stuff

    Here it is, faction anthem.

Hope one day all my friends from Organisation will fly to it together

Apologies for some glitches, levels out of balance etc... This is very rough material, still trying to figure out how to record this properly from my moXF6.

And if you got inspired, created some music, art, please share it with us!

But to be serious, there are those kind of topics around even little information we know about game, that are kind of fall into universal debate. If game allows to create any political system I wish to see all the flavors. People go wild with imagination what they can possibly came up with. Even worshipers of sharks with freakin lasers! Why not Some making calculations on well known patterns, other will go wild. Nothing wrong about this

Why does NQ have to do it? That would have to be a very robust system. Why not hire accountants that can perform more actions than NQ could ever implement? More jobs, more community, more immersion.
