Here is a basic layout idea for the Expo, based on 3 hexes. This design allows for the majority of the Expo grounds to be open, allowing ease of access for larger ships for both exhibition and parking.

    Hi everyone!

The following organizations will be removed very soon:

    1) Internet Banking Federation (IBF): https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/intergalactic-banking-federation-ibf
    Reasons:
    - Real life people represented
    - Real life company names involved
    - Imaginary people from popular IP represented

    2) United Gérard Depardieu: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/united-gerard-depardieu
    Reason:
    - Real life people represented

    3) What is an Alt: https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/what-is-an-alt
    Reason:
    - Fake accounts spam

About the preventive measures we have in mind (we would like to have your feedback on this):
Giving the right to join an organization only if the user is a backer is a bit over the top in our opinion.
However, we are considering to give the right of creating organizations only to backers. This should limit abuses on this topic.

    @Warden:
This is not explicitely forbidden at the moment as the Forum chart doesn't cover some cases that could occur on the Community Portal.
However we should update this soon.

All in all, it's also a matter of common sense:
As long as an action can have a negative impact on the Community Portal (flooding with fake organizations, fake accounts, and inappropriate content), damaging the visibility of legit organizations and/or members, yes, some action will be taken from Novaquark side (and later, with the help of the Community Portal team).

Regarding this phenomenon, while it won't impact directly the game development, it will impact it indirectly.
    Here is how it works:

    - As the community is growing, relying that mods will handle always this kind of things manually eternally wouldn't be very smart.

    - The most logical way of handling such situation, would be to update the portal in a way to dissuade such behavior.

    - Until now, the Community Portal has been developed internally, by developers who are also developing the game. At the moment, updating the portal means we take dev time that would be used on the game itself otherwise. That's an issue, we are aware of that, and that's why we are currently looking for recruiting a Web developper, that will be dedicated to the task, in order to have everyone focusing on their own specialities and to prevent any disruption in the workflow of the developers who are supposed to work on the game itself.

    - Handling such abuses on the Community Portal is also time taken away from Community Managers to work on more constructive things. True, this is part of our job, but while we are handling this kind of situation, we aren't doing something else (regular reports to the dev team, new wave for the Alpha team, internal tasks related to the Alpha phase preparation, internal tasks related to the Community Portal, Moderators selection, helping the Customer Support, writing Kickstarter Updates and Newsletters... and that's far from being the whole list).

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

To add on. None of them (Bar SongOfStorm) has pledged, Which is highly sus for such a big org. None of them have profile pics, again sus. And if they are all new members, why have they gone to this one org and none of the others, considering they're all in one org only. Some of them were even made with the same naming conventions. Im not usually one to call out alt or anything like that, but I think they need to be at least checked out.

Edit: doubled checked and there's profile pics, but really?

    Calamity

The rain lashed down around him, beating into his shoulders. Lightening flashed, scattering grim shadows over the sidewalk. The roar of the midnight city was drowned by the storm. Beaten down and suppressed. He quickly slipped an earpiece on, water seeping down his forearm. Music started to flow through the device as he continued his trek. Cars blurred past him, sending sprays of water into the air.

Burnt out husks of buildings were homes once stood scattered the street. The riots had started 34 years ago, the images of the neutron star, their executioner, as some put it, were shown to the public. The announcement of the lottery system did more harm than good. People fought and killed each other over a chance to get aboard the ark ships.

Mass hysteria and riots swept through the surviving population. Anything broken or burnt was typically left the way it was. The euthanasia programs swiftly followed. People who gave up on their chances to survive decided to die rather than face the end of the world. Those that weren't euthanised decide to live life while they still could. With governmental powers around the world collapsing, and only the UMF able to hold a stable grasp on their cities. Warlords and marauders appeared, raping, pillaging and burning anything because, people no longer cared for wealth, or political power anymore. You either had the strength and will to fight, or you died.

He sighed, he was born on the day those photos had been released and the lottery system announced. Some called it fate, that he’d been selected by the lottery, some didn't give a damn. Like everyone else, he fought to stay alive, the majority of the Earth’s resources were being directed towards the rebirth programme. He looked down at his watch, 23:07 14/08/2534, it was predicted to be another four years before the star swept through the system and killed humanity.

He stared ahead, the prize looming ahead, it stretched 8 kilometers high, piercing the storm, a testament to mankind's resolve to endure and survive. The arkships were humanities solution to the problem, massive constructs capable of carrying millions of people through the stars. And there were only two ways you could get aboard, by being extremely useful, or by being even luckier.

As some of you already pointed out, the "Intergalactic Banking Federation" (IBF) had an extremly high growth in the last days. Founded on the 1st of march, they already have 65 members. Nearly all those accounts were created in the last 5 days. There were 26 new members in one day. That's more than 1317 orgs got in their whole time of existance. I'd like to ask NQ to either delete this whole organization or the fake members. This is a problem that many online games have but we should start fighting against it as soon as possible.

Are you the next Jack Sparrow or Blackbeard? Do you reek of rum and have a peg-leg fetish? Are you 60% water? Is your sign Virgo with Leo as your horoscope. Congratulations, you are eligible to apply for a figurehead position in Cybrex's ship, the Majestic Honeybadger.

Please, send 1 paragraph application letter to Cybrex (or any of his 192 alts). Tell us why you think you are eligible to be the figurehead of the Majestic Honeybadger, and your take on the Development of Affordable Housing in Third World Countries, as well a thesis on the increasing scarcity of peg-legs for aspiring pirates.

You may ask youself "why is Cybrex not making an alt and then hiring his alt as a figurehead", the answer to that, is diabetes, as we coat our ships in the candy we stole from babies and his foot-long beard has ended diabetic after devouring one too many doughnuts.

How did he achieve a foot-long beard? It's simple, he used the souls of the damned trapped in Davy Jone's chest to will it out of his face.

You can find Cybrex in your local pirate hideout, in Discord, or - most likely - in a hair salon, where he gets his beard combed.

I did lay down my agriculture suggestion at the other thread, but here goes nothing .

My suggestion revolves around certain things :

    1) Fertile Grounds : You can't just prop up agriculture anywhere, and not any ground is equally fertile. This would emulate the EVE Online mentality of "less safety = more productivity". So, inside the Arkships' Safezones? The yeild is slow, but the productivity rate is of-put by the sheer number of immediate access. Some "herbs" can't be placed within the Arkship's Safezone. Sorry aspiring Druglords, Arkship says no-no. You wanna be a thug? You better live in the thug-lands. The further one is from the Arkship, the better (and faster) the yield is on crops.  As an added bonus, you can't have the plants be in constant lack of sunlight.

    2) GMO Food : Instead of upgrading harvesters, we simply have genetics in the game. You start with harvesting a certain plant, then researching it, then researching it even more to produce a better variant of it, like a better variant of it, then you use this "Blueprint Copy" (ala EVE Online) and plant seeds on the ground, which will produce them Brocollis of Doom. This guarantees that there are Seed Producers, and Farmers. Those two jobs, are not the same. One is producing sseds that only farmers buy, the other produces first sector products, like vegetables, similar to people in EVE producing Blueprint Copies for ship modules, while others buy said Blueprint Copies to keep their industry going.

    3) Farmville Universe Online : like the "fuel for shields" idea, you got somethign like that but in reverse. You water a plant, and it gets a cooldown on it. The plant can be watered a set amount of times before its ripe for harvesting, some plants take more waterings per day to be produced at their maximum yield, some plants take less. It's what Genetic Modification is for, to make said better plants happen. After a certain amount of time, you choose to harvest the plants and go sell thme in the farmer's market or w/e.

So, with this model, a planet, far from a safezone, can produce a high count of a crop, but in exchange, you trade safety. Why? Cause if you were to produce 10 times as fast as a person inside a safezone would, with the added bonus of having little to no protection doing so as you can't keep all your crops within a permanent safety bubble, as Protection Bubbles and shields COST fuel (you need to upset the production somehow). It's a trade-off.

And let's be honest, dedicated farmers will be the ones to make mad banks out of this kind of gameplay, or people woh RP a lo and/or people running small communities in-game. Like JC said on the GDC Q&A, some places have easy access to food for cheap, others have not, so its value rises.

Just add the Good Ol' EVE mechanism of expiration dates, and while hunger won't be a legit worry, food going bad will be, as well as military bunkers requiring Cold Storage Units to slow down that expiration day dramatically.

These are my two cents on the matter

P.S. : this does not cover my idea of food processing. That's Cooking and it's a totally differnet beast to tackle

DarkTemplar reacted to Begogian in Research and Development Direction? (in-game)
BruceWilly, so first of all I think you miss understood just a bit. Through Alpha and Beta, everything will keep resetting. The only thing we keep are our blueprints and our knowledge of game mechanics. Nothing in the skill tree will be kept. Also, Alpha and Beta will be a mix of goofing off and in depth testing of the game. When we receive alpha and can start playing the game, we want to test all of the game mechanics, this does include breaking the game but not in all aspects. We are going to want to test things like how ship building works and their physics when it comes to flying. We are going to be building large structures and mining away a lot of land to test land generation and detailed in game mechanics. Obviously I don't speak for everyone of this but the dedicated, core players will want to further the developers in solving problems they are having as well as testing new ideas they want to try out and see if we like them. Now don't get me wrong a lot of players, myself included and *cough cough* Twerkmotor will be trying to break the game because the logs will helps the devs but I don't think this will be a main focus for alpha because it will eventually reach a point of annoyance for the devs.

A lot of great questions about R&D and this is definitely going to be a big aspect in the early stages of the game. Most of the focus will be developing stargates and core units/territory units I think. As the game progresses we will see new mechanics and new things to research surface further pushing the R&D aspect of the game. Each org will handle their R&D differently and depending on what they want to focus on (i.e. military, control, mining, trading, etc.) they will focus on that line of research to further themselves. This sort of observe and report may be something very small orgs do in order to further themselves based on the very large orgs but the large orgs will be heading R&D because it will be vital to growing fast, becoming wealthy, and expanding out into the universe. Unfortunately we won't know if our taxes are going to good use until Alpha and Beta release so we know the exact difficulty when it comes to building new technology but definitely count on a huge push towards R&D from big orgs.

I know it was said already but welcome to the forums and I hope I answered all your questions and more.

So these would be the different components needed to fabricate a single farming unit. Also, I think from the stand point of making the plants easier to install into the game, there can be a generic plant model that shows up within the confounds of the fences but still produces different crops.

That's what I was thinking too. It would be interesting to see a skill branch all about crops and genetically modifying crops for different uses

I think you missed the point of the arguements before it that "energy doesn't regen unless you consume calories (food) ".

Walking will certainly get you more milage-per-calories but sprinting will get you more speed for urgencies. Walking, like in the real world, would consume far less calories to do so, while sprinting would get you simply to exhaust your calories faster for a short boost in speed. You also ignore the fact that in some armors, like a heavy armor, it would be practically impossible to sprint all the time as it would exhaust your energy even faster. So, sprinting, should be an "afterburner" kind of thing. Use it sparingly to dodge an AoE damage effect or to jetpack to safet.

Some armors will be lightweight, able to give more speed in such a model, when sprinting as well as jetpack distance per calorie burned, while other armorsmay not even be able to run in them... at all. And no, bigger jetpack doesn't mean "I can compensate for the wieght". There's a certain number of newtons of push that the human spine can tolerate before its torn apart, and if your armor weighs 1 ton (like a power armor) that would mean you can't really apply any jetpack at all.

Which is balanced and that is my opinion. Having fuel that runs out for people, is what will keep them tethered to a city. Which also means exploration is a whole new beast on its own.

Adding on a bit. Say exploration/scanning is done by the pilot entering an orbit. Reaches a certain velocity/trajectory and it automatically puts you into the default scanning orbit.

Now, from there you scan set your Apoapsis and Periapsis, changing your orbit. The closer your are in your orbit, the higher detail of the scan you get back, except it covers a smaller area (because you are closer), and thus takes more time. If gravity is a thing, its more fuel consuming and dangerous.

On the other side you could choose to pick a larger/longer orbit. This would scan more of the planet in an orbit, requiring less time and orbits, but giving you a lower detail. Again, if we have a proper grabity well, it would be less fuel consuming and safer.

Tl:dr - A mechanic that allows us to choose our orbits when scanning a planet closer = more detail but slower, further = less detail but faster.

While I'm aware that there won't be actual orbits in Dual Universe, I've been playing Hellion quite a bit lately and I've grown fond of its navigation interface and mechanics.

Which has me thinking about Dual Universe, of course...

We haven't been told much about exactly how the mechanics of navigating to another planet or solar system might look, suffice to say I think we've heard more about the technological mechanics than the interface itself.

I think it would be a noteworthy addition to Dual Universe if the interface for determining where you are going to arrive when you set out at warp speed for a planet or new solar system, operated in a similar way to the navigation interface of Hellion.

To illustrate what I'm referring to, here is an image with labels for the various parts of the navigation interface:

It would be an interesting way of determining where you are going to land after you exit warp and would give navigators/pilots a bit more flexibility. It would also give a way for large fleets to organize on a specific position in space.

I was also thinking that this could play a part in how solar systems are explored and plotted out, wherein you would need to either put a probe into an "orbit" (not really an orbit because the game won't support that, but for illustration purpose, we'll use that word) or yourself, then initiate a scan of the surrounding area.
