  1. Yes. They are planning on adding various life forms on planets. Don't expect any sentient (highly intelligent beings) races apart from us humans, though. It has been confirmed that an alien race that is as, if not more intelligent then humans will likely not be in the game. Apart from that, there will be ancient ruins of alien civilisations scattered around the universe for us to find. They will likely contain rare materials and technologies that we will probably be able to use.

  5. I also couldn't agree more. The one thing I disliked about the building video released was that JC simply placed a single fuel tank and some engines wherever and was able to travel to space just like that. Now, obviously, it will not be that simple when the game fully launches, but even so, it made me think. Once you have the resources, how easy will it be to build a spaceship? Will there be some KSP style thinking behind it? Or a simple slap on some thrusters, SE style what the logic.

  8. For small, fighter class ships, a simple ADWS and Mouse controlled simple would do fine. For larger ships, it would make sense for there to be a slightly more advanced system. For example, you could predefine the flight path. There should also be an option to manually control the larger ships, in the event that the path ahead could be changing and be unpredictable. (Such as inside an astroid belt where there are astroids flying everywhere)
  9. The devs did mention a while ago that they are considering letting us keep Blueprints through wipes. This is not set in stone, however, and it might change. However, as mentioned above, the purpose of the Alpha is not to enjoy the game, but to help push it to a playable state. So, whether or not we get wipes shouldn't matter in the least.

  11. I'm a fan of the idea of adding different environments for the players of DU to survive in. However, I think the Devs plan on doing this by using Biomes. If you've ever played Minecraft, you will understand what this means. Basically, a single biome could consist of let's say, a forest, or a plane, or some hills, perhaps a snowy version of them too. I don't think there will be environments that can go from really rainy to really hot. It'll either be one or the other.
  12. The devs have mentioned that during the Alpha and Beta periods, there will be many server wipes. This means that when the game launches in about 1-2 years, we will all start from the very beginning.

    Personally, I'm not a fan of selling shares, though I understand the benefits. I'm not sure how it will play out, we do have a few organizations on the rise who plan on selling and buying (Silverlight industries for an example, and the faction I am part of, the DUA) I suppose we'll need to wait to find out. It's safe to say some kind of market will begin.
  15. Like Anasasi said You will not be able to dig to the planet's core, it will be limited to about 2km, give or take. (I'm not sure on the exact number) I'm pretty sure there are no plans for having regenerating land. While I agree that things might get messy, I'm sure the devs will think of a way to handle it. Players will spawn inside a safe zone that exists in the form of a 'Protection Bubble'. This bubble is generated by the Arcship. (The place we spawn from.) Inside the safe zone will be only basic materials. In order to advance your research, you'll need to venture outside of the safe zone in order to gather rare and more advanced materials that cannot be found inside the safe zone. (In short, the area in the safe zone is minable, but not very beneficial.)
  16. I'm pretty sure the 'Virtual Zone' (The place you go to build without risk the Developers mentioned) will be mainly for constructs that fly, hover, and so on. While I agree that it would look better if players could be seen designing ships in the main world, not everyone enjoys the fatal setback that a failed ship gives you. This is why they are planning the Virtual Zone. If your design goes wrong, it's not totally crippling. I do like the idea of there being different 'Modes' inside the builder. Especially the planning mode.
  17. I'd imagine once a territory is claimed, you are safe to build as high and as deep as you wish. It wouldn't make much sense to limit the territory to 1km in high/depth as well as radius.

A good idea would be to put every player through the same sequence the main character from the short story written for DU went through. in the story, the main character woke from his cryosleep and spoke with the AI controlling the ship. Once able, he left the cryotube and explored a little. After a while, the AI spoke to him again and he was placed into a few 'training exercises' inside the Virtual Reality zone the Devs mentioned to us. Inside the zone, we will be free to test out builds without the risk of crashing and losing materials as a result. I believe this would be the best place for the tutorial.

  20. While it's unlikely for sentient alien races to be added as a playable or interactable race as said by the devs, It's a nice idea. Given that the short story written for DU features an intelligent alien race that communicates with the main character of the story. However, it has already been said that the only 'alien' races will likely be simple wildlife to populate the planets and add depth to the otherwise full of life but lifeless planets. Even that is planned for later down the line.

If the developers managed to: (1) create an algorithm that scales the required amount of resources and components to create the desired element, (2) Create scalable textures and meshes for each element, or an automatic process that does it for them (I've seen it done before) and finally, (3) balance out the stats such as damage and defense via either manual testing or an automatic alorithm such as the one from (1), this could easily possible. I'd imagine it's easier said then done, and there's probably more to it, but hey, it's a totally boss idea.
