Thanks for your reply Wilks, I loved EVE so I'm more and more excited with DU every day, I have 400 members or so gaming site and I'm bringing them all to the game. At least promoting the game in the community!

    Name: Yamamushi

    Region/Timezone: All the time

    Language: English

What type of Organization are you looking for?
I am looking for an organization of people who want to help organize events and that will value what I have to bring to the table.

Desired role(s) you wish to play in-game:
Events organizer, project manager. I have started numerous projects in and out of DU. If you know who I am, then you know what I can do for you.

    Roleplay interest?
    Yes

    Other:
As I've told others, I am not going to fill out your application to join your group. If you want me for my talents and for what I have to bring to the table, then you already know what I've done in DU and you presumably want to help those efforts. If that is roadblocked by me filling out a form to join your group, then you don't value me anyways and quite honestly I'd rather work alone than with people who are going to treat me like another cog in the machine. I already have a day job, I don't need a second one.

I'm looking for a group that will work as hard as I do on things and has people that are excited to jump in and assist on projects.

I'm not looking for org drama, I'm not looking for people that are going to micromanage me and tell me what to do. I want the freedom to keep working on these projects under someone's banner so that I can get help with them (DU Radio, The Contests I run, the giveaways I've had, the physical items I've had made, the list goes on). So it goes without saying that I am looking for an org with at least a handful of motivated people in it, and not solo orgs or people who don't have the time to work with me on anything.

I don't have a lot of high hopes posting here, and more and more it seems like I'm just going to end up playing the game alone, but I figured someone out there might be interested in having me under their umbrella.

Haunty reacted to Ben Fargo in can you build like you could in landmark?
Will the building in DU be like landmark?
Building will be similar to Landmark.  There are some differences, but if you enjoyed building in Landmark, you will probably like it in DU, too.

How hard will it to get land?
You will need a territory unit to claim land and we do not yet know how difficult it will be to earn that in the game.  However, if you buy a Sponsor Pack or a Patron Pack, you will get a sanctuary territory unit that will let you claim land on the Sanctuary Moon.  In effect, those packs include land, but you need to get to the Sanctuary Moon to claim it.

Will you be able to get your own land?
If you get a territory unit, you can get land.  A unit claims a tile which is about a kilometer across, so you get an area that is much larger than a claim was in Landmark.

I would play like once a week.  Would pvp people take my land like in Ark?
There will be two safe zones where people can not take your land.   One is around the Arkship where everyone starts the game and the other is the Sanctuary Moon.  Any land outside those areas can be attacked and captured.  Realistically, it will take an organization to defend any land outside the safe zones.

I'm surprised I've only seen the word "parachute" mentioned in two other threads, but since it hasn't been brought up before as its own specific feature request...

It would be really nice to have some sort of parachute item that we could use either when bailing out of a ship at high altitudes or perhaps something we'd use when skydiving into a territory during a covert ops mission or something.

Preferably it would be something that we'd have control over ourselves, and not something that auto-deployed (because a parachute would be pretty visible, and you might want to deploy as close to the ground as possible to avoid being seen).

Another possibility would be a wingsuit of some sort...

DU isn't about PVP only. But it's also NOT about building ONLY. It's about everything at once

    And according to

this statement of yours is just wrong:

Exactly. Per se PVP is allowed outside the safezone. If you don't want to pvp - go to an ASA or MSA.
If ppl want to keep their turf safe outside those zones - they have to actually work for it and secure it themselves

The key thing is balance! Stand off / long range weapons are cool to use but can also cause unbalance in a game and abuse if the defender does not have equal weapons or counter measures for protection.

I would like to provide an example from a different game. Now I don't want people to start comparing the games in great detail, as I do not think they can be compared deeply - at best, they share similarities or universal aspects.

My point now is size, however. And control of groups over territory.

I will use DayZ as example

I will refer to the map you can play in.

v Maps in spoiler to keep post short v

A wiki entry states the country itself is 225 km2 in size, so the playable map in the first picture above is way smaller. Some google search hinted at it only being 16 x 16 km or so. I currently play it actively in an RP community on a private shard that does well to simulate evolving and growing (or dissolving) player factions. Granted, in this example we have to keep in mind that server population is ultimately limited. Just like map size is compared to DU or comparable games.

But the point here is how player factions exert control over parts of the playable areas. For example, in that community there is currently a major conflict going on between "Anarchy forces" who have ties to some communist secessionist movement that grabbed parts of the nation in the chaos following some rabies infection, and some resistance with ties to the original government of the nation - all portrayed by players. For a long while they exerted power over the survivor populace. Only recently, from government controlled areas, paramilitary, government backed forces returned to the province to engage those anarchy forces.

In a more abstract or general fashion,  we basically had an aggressive group who'd also raid, rob, murder people at will and not everyone submitted to or agreed with them. Some fought. Some stayed away from them. Depending on the player or person you are, you have many options. They were or are a powerful group and good at PVP. They do have numbers and more members than most other groups on average. But the thing is, they can't be everywhere at once. The map above might seem small, especially if you know it well or just look at the map and different scale. But it's still huge in a certain way, with cities, villages and lots of forests. Now not just counting size and looking at player interactions, what happened? A group began to drive others away or piss them off. In that case you can bugger off, join them or fight back. That's what people eventually did - they started fighting back because they grew tired of their antics. This lead to several people and groups forming an alliance to fight those people. And then even other factions joined in, events are generated, content is generated, people are having fun. Instead of complaining about others earning their influence or getting to where they got, people roll with it and incorporate it into their gameplay.

But enough of this example now.

Dual Universe will be even bigger than just a patch of land in a nation, on one planet. Now I get that there will also be vastly more players and all of them will be on the same server or run around in the very same game universe instead of being separated by servers. The scale therefore goes up. But with theoretically endless space and many options, I really - for now - see little need for panic or above-average concerns for the future.

I want to see a large group blockade a whole planet effectively if space will indeed be big in DU later on.

And maybe ... if they got to that point ... they even somewhat earned it. I'll worry or consider dev involvement when it actually happens and when a point is reached where gameplay is severely impacted for new players (there). And before "out of game" involvement or concern is or should be a thing, there's plenty of ways to react to a perceived developing threat with game measures.

I also still see plenty of room for smaller organizations. Not everyone wants to or can be the elephant in the room, as large communities or organizations can be volatile if the right conditions are met. In other words, Empires rise and fall.

As I believe in emergent gameplay in general, I'm also so far against a system to limit organization size by numbers. Again, if people can manage to pull something (large) off and maintain it over time, I see no reason to put stones in their way - unless it turns into an "out of game" problem for new players.

But time shall tell. I just see no real need to worry until then, frankly.

It makes it too easy for an attacker to go around damaging bases without any other purpose. And if defenders have powerful defenses, they could blow away non-attacking orbital ships just because they can. It's unbalanced, and to balance it you would need to introduce a bunch of arbitrary mechanics, when it would make more sense to just force attackers to come to the surface to fight.

That's not NQs problem. If that's true then he's better off WITHOUT the game anyway and should see a psychiatrist.

Also strange that this is brought up.....by three different ppl. Who only ever posted in this thread. Quite the "coincidence"

I'm all in for stealth.....but not in the way eve does it (cause that's just bad)

DU could do WAY better in this regard by simply adding a little more stuff (will rewrite the stuff I talked with beloved twerkmotor about)
    - do different type of radar/sensor: gravimetric (mass), lidar (light), magnetometric (magnetic fields), radar (cross section), thermal (heat, obviously)

each sensor goes for a different attribute of the ship. We've already seen in videos that DU uses a crosssection in the build widget.

Smaller crosssection -> radar can't detect you that easily.
Small and light ship -> gravimetric sensors don't catch you well
Dark/light absorbing voxels -> lidar can't detect you well
few elements used (turrets, engines, certain voxels...) -> magnetometric doesn't pick you up
Coat ship in thermal-resistant voxels -> thermal sensors won't be good

all of that can be balanced by simply putting different attributes on voxels and elements: you can build an extremely dark ship to evade lidar, but that increases your mass. Use anti-magnetometric voxels ....but increase the heat.
Balance it so, that you can't build a ship which is undetectable - but may be very, very hard to detect. That has to be an extremely small and expensive ship for maybe 1-5 ppl - to allow black ops kind of tactics.
imho this can be added easily as it only adds some more numbers which then can be calculated just like the rest of the pvp system (chances).

Such a system would be way more engaging and emergent as the builder would have to pay attention to what he wants to build - and ppl have to think about different ways of defending their base.
You may be able to build a battleship which can't be detected by lidar - but it's cross section is a moon. Works pretty well against an outpost which only has a thermal sensor.....
But radar would be the most basic sensor - because it detects a simple crosssection - and therefor be the cheapest....

You see, this system would be easily balanceable and it would add way more emergent gameplay for everyone (shipbuilders, basebuilders, pilots, tacticians, miners, producers,...) than just having a full invisibility cloak element like in eve - which is basically an I win button. Plus it can be implemented very well with the existing idea of pvp-mechanics
