Seraph reacted to guttertrash in 8000+ backers and only 3300+ forum members ... wat
A lot of people just don't care about the bickering over minutia which is largely what this and pretty much every other forum consists of.
I fund/play a lot of games, i almost never join the communities because i find the constant arguing and posturing intolerable. This game was one of the rare few i cared enough about to put up with the community for

It's not just the design, it's the QA testing in pre-alpha. Alpha testing is generally for things like playability and balance, but the internal QA is going to have to go through any combat system they design with a fine toothed comb. And we're not just talking about fighter vs fighter here, we're taking about multiplayer ships shooting at each other with specific elements and doing damage, presumably, to those elements as well as the hull. And the players would have to be able to repair them, develop skills for using them, create a lot of combat-related graphics (and doing good explosions is a pain in the ass.) So yeah, I thought that a 100K stretch was pretty modest, representing at most two more underpaid FTEs (Full Time Employees.) When you look at the size of the team as it is, 500k euros for 2 years of work is a pittance. These guys are going to be working 70 hour weeks for survival wages and if they can't deliver on stuff they didn't promise based on their funding, you won't hear me complaining.
I'd rather see CvC go through a full alpha cycle too and I hope they can manage it, and I'm going to do everything I can to help them get the best possible game out there at general release.

Hello guys,
hi res version of the suit research here (accessories will be added later).
The current character is a placeholder and does not meet our requirements for the final product.

Kickstarter doesn't allow backers to withdraw from a project that's gotten over 100% funding if your withdrawal will put it below. It's guaranteed by Kickstarter's rules to be funded the €500,000 at a minimum now.

Seraph reacted to Dominar in Boom, funded. Congrats NQ!
Congratulations NQ. You deserve it. It was a close call, too. From around 12K Euros a day up until we had only 4 days remaining, we shot from 460K Euros to 500K Euros in a single day! Hurraaaayyy sprinkles confetti whoop whooop!!!!

We have to apreciate the game isn't finished yet. That's why we're pledging aren't we? I'm very grateful they posted another video and I'm really hopeful they might post another little teaser tonight.

Trying to leverage your pledge to force NQ to do what you want definitely shows a lack of respect for them.
Imagine if that actually worked... what a horrible game we would end up with, if they caved in to every demand?
I would love to see more video of them doing more complicated building but we don't have that yet. Personally i hope it's because they are busy working on letting us actually play the game ourselves.
To many other companies these days are happy to spend thousands producing videos of things they haven't even started yet.

It would be a waste of time and money to throw something together that is more polished at this point, and you shouldn't even want that...that is what NMS did and later had to go back on a bunch of things. What they have shown so far is damn impressive and either you back it or you dont but if you withdraw your pledge based on NQ releasing a rough video showing of some tech they're working on, maybe you should lower your expectations.

Seraph reacted to wizardoftrash in What the hell is this?
The trouble with a game company trying to be really transparent, is that sometimes the unfinished pre-alpha looks like an unfinished pre-alpha.
This video is pretty much what I expected, except I wasn't expecting multi-player-construction to even be in their pre-alpha. It isn't pretty, but very effective.

Seraph reacted to PetdCat in What the hell is this?
I think a couple people just decided to throw some things together real quick to show that it could be done with multiple people. I'm not going to give them grief for a quick fun video that you just throw out there. I certainly don't want NQ to think that they shouldn't put any communications out there that has not had the art department sign off on, run through a production company, and have music from the Ecole Normale Superieure Chamber Quartet. Unless people prefer that there is less informal communication and everything has been run through the local spin doctor.

Seraph reacted to Anaximander in New! Multiplayer Building Pre-Alpha Video
It's not just the cities. Smuggling a person in a ship will be quite impossible if names are to pop up behind surfaces. O.o That's why I'm saying they could use the tab system they use with the Elements in building mode, you put your cross-hairs on someone, you see their name.
Not to mention all the gameplay aspects coming out of it, like name scrambling (think stealth from other games, only you blend in the crowd easier), or a guy having "Counter-Intelligence" skills, that unscramble a person's name, or even cooler, stealth suits, that reduce the range at wihch the name tab will show up on the people swiping through an area to spot you.
I mean, Emergent Gameplay and stuff.

Seraph reacted to wizardoftrash in Lets play grand theft spaceship
There is an interesting thing here that people are kind of ignoring regarding core destruction and placement, mainly we aren't sure how Editing rights works yet. Placing a core in a construct constitutes Editing. If Editing Rights is not tied to the ship's core, that whole "destroy their core, place your own core" system might not work.
The devs have mentioned hacking before, that players might be able to "hack" a TU. The same might go for a ship core? We might find that destroying a core in a ship and placing your core is not the answer to how theft will work in the game, but HACKING sounds like the key skill for theft. Wouldn't it make sense for a character who specialized in the hacking skill to have this ability?
food for thought.

Seraph reacted to Hotwingz in How hard (or easy) will it be to earn DAC?
In my opinion the best compromise I have read so far (somewhere) is to make DAC bind on pick up ish.
Player A buys DAC from NQ.
Player A sells DAC to player B.
Player B can only use DAC for game time.
Player B will not be able to resell it.
This solves everything as far as I can tell. Player A gets his in game currency.
Player B gets his game time. And DAC will be used for what its intended. To pay for game time.
Everybody wins.
