  1. Mining? Really? Fun af... mining is a necessary evil that people want to get out of the way like a dentist appointment so that they can get around to smiling at the chick across the bar with even, glowing teeth.
  2. @UnclePaulie “Betas aren’t for everyone.” Condescending, much? How about ditching the passive-aggressive and just saying it like it is: this game’s new direction is not for everyone. That was always a risk I’m 100% prepared to take every time I back a project. As a kickstarter/ Indiegogo backer who has also backed independent projects to the tune of >$25,000 over the last seven years, with virtually no failures so far, I’m well aware of what a beta is, thank you very much. I backed this game initially but have not put another dollar into it beyond the two contributer packs (gold or whatever they were called) back in 2016/2017 or something. I found this game fun and have probably got my money’s worth (about 1000 hours played for less than $1000 is a bargain in my book) so I’m quite happy to say to DU: “Thanks for the fun. Good luck and maybe see you again if things turn out how I want and envisaged.” Finally, considering every single game I’ve ever played since I got my first proper gaming PC rig in 2013 I first played as an alpha or a beta (without exception) I’d say you are dead wrong.
  3. I think I might just come back to DU when there is a fully functioning civilization in place. Because building one sure as hell sounds a lot like a job now and not much like a game I’d choose to pay to play. Mine more so you can buy less. Sell to those who control the markets for a pittance. Then Rely on bots to sell magical slave potions at exorbitant prices to power the Ars Industria controlled by the mega corps. sound like the plot to the movie Brazil... or just real life in a few years’ time. And we all know how much fun that’ll be. jeezus the Bladerunner phrase “More real than real” just got really real.
  4. Sadly, this succinct comment is also probably completely accurate.
  5. Agreed. It makes it really hard to neatly line up elex units.
  6. Wow. Today, the server has been flakey a.f. Kicked every 15 minutes or so. Pending ops and failed ops requiring complete app shutdown and restart -not just exiting to menu but all the way to the desktop!- to clear. Wonder what the problem is... it’s not an influx of players, I’m fairly sure of that.
  7. It’s like they are trying to convince themselves that their game has fewer bugs.
  8. Pirates are scum. Full stop. Their entire gameplay style is designed to profit off of others’ hard work in a non-mutually-beneficial way. TBH, they are only just above the bottom feeders that are the gankers, griefers and murder hobos. still the game does need to provide them with a measured and meaningful way to play that doesn’t just end in complete destruction of their mark. like legitimate cargo dumping leaving a trail of canisters and tractor beams capable of canister recovery... just off the top of my head. anything would be an improvement on the current state.
  9. Because we’re in beta, this is a problem due to accounts not expiring. In the future, I imagine people will pay only as long as they actually play. So if they abandon the game and quit their subscription, their assets should become forfeit and salvageable. this will likely solve the platform detritus issues people are having.
  10. If a game makes you throw up, I suggest you take a step back, get some air and reevaluate your lifestyle choices. Smh.
  11. Star Citizen has a self destruct timer... If timed to perfection, you can take the pirate and his ship out AS WELL... Legit tactic.
  12. Ship suddenly starts veering to starboard at Max Yaw Rate. Cannot turn left at ALL. ship with 2kT of cargo cargo is now starting to point at right angles to the motion vector, depriving primary lift surfaces of forward velocity. ship starts to fall unrecoverably. Now with element and cargo destruction to look forward to. Luckily I have Alt-F4 to put a stop to those coding shenanigans! Oh wait....
  13. Wait, has this something to do with that former Korean Chaeobol, GoldStar that became part of LG?
  14. Alt-F4 still works for the time being. It is your friend. yeah. If you open the map, your ship continues without control. That’s what happens when your game has a 1990’s focus-stealing, modal interface rather than a modular, windowed one.
  15. I often right click and export the config to clipboard. And I have an open source windows clipboard manager running in the background that saves clipboard history...so that way, I can roll back my board’s previous code if things go south.
  16. In other words. Let’s come back to this when JCB actually provides some (semi)concrete information. if this were a request for input then sure, we could make a 100 page thread, but as it is, it will just turn into “YATC Thread” where we expound upon theories and propose “solutions” (often preceded by the word “just”) after a couple of minutes’ thought.
  17. @blazemonger, Blaze, I don’t see how they can allow prior existing factories to continue on in cheat mode while expecting new creations to behave the new way. that would forever create a “grandfathering” disconnect between them and create two sets of disparate logic to maintain here on out. every change would have to be then tested not once but twice against the legacy stuff, too. as a former dev, that’s nightmare fuel.
  18. Not sure where you’re pulling Japanese stereotypes from.. (I lie... I am sure where). But seriously, Japanese Anime is generally complete shite (apart from a few decent outings by Ghibli) You need to stop watching it; it will rot your soul. After that attempted diss, you then go on to say it holds true in rare cases. Lol. And those are exactly the cases that can ruin it for the rest of us. Only takes one idiot in a group of 100 to shit in the punch bowl. Also, I never take games seriously, that’s why I don’t play those campaign centric mmos. Instead I have an IRL business to manage. Call of duty is specifically about shooting each other. It’s not just PvP centric, it’s entirely PVP. So that was possibly even worse reference than your anime one. but besides those points, I agree with you.
  19. TIme and time again. You think NQ would be getting better at reading their audience and introducing new features by now. but it seems not. Many of their features are like the least delicate implementations possible and are often minimum viable production level.
  20. Again, I have to 100% agree with Unibozu. the problem with PvP in a game like this is that is is basically the digital version of passive smoking. even if you don’t smoke, PvP will affect you unless you stay out of its way and in some games that means to not play at all and give your money to someone else.
  21. Agreed and reacted. This game will appeal to the creative builder types, no doubt about it... with the added lure of having others ogle your works. ps.does your name come from Japanese? If so, it can have two meanings Sea Monk... or my personal favourite Pus Monk... without the kanji, it’s hard to determine which one since we can’t hear the pronunciation. Lol.
  22. Oh you sweet soul, you!!! It’s the internet. Some of the most toxic, twisted, sadistic people are more likely to expose that aspect of their personality online and in-game where the worst possible thing that could happen is that they get their accounts closed. The real world equivalent to account closure would be summary execution. Given that most people with sociopathic tendencies evaluate the risk-reward scenario thoroughly before engaging, you end up with all the worst murder hobos, changers, griefers, and those challenged in the trouser department descending on these open ended games to do what they want to do IRL but don’t have the balls to. or not... who knows.
  23. Some people think this "doing better" will involve another wipe.... But what I want to know is, how the heck is NQ going to do another reboot/reset/wipe with actual paying subscribers.... Will they reset the clock on those subscribers' clocks... so that if a subscriber has paid for half a year, they'll get six months playtime dated from the final wipe? I also don't think I, who doesn't even have to pay a sub yet, would survive another wipe, TBH. So I don't see how they can really fix things other than patching the patch patches and duck taping the mechanics and broken bits together.
