if you want to eat etc in game it should be an option, not a game mechanic.....  I have enough of that mundane stuff in real life

Until we know more about the types of resources found in certain biomes, and the extent to which important elements can only be made with rare resources, we can't really judge how complicated colonization will be. However, given that players are capable of constructing most things themselves (or the elements needed to do those things they can't do themselves) then you don't really need much to colonize a planet besides yourself. Just fly there and start scanning down the basic resources necessary to building up a basic infrastructure, just like Minecraft. Major colonization pushes don't seem like a thing that will happen much in DU.

However, I'm sure that after a few years there will be big colonization or assault ships stocked full of resources, constructs, and pre-made bases for invading enemy planets, or for colony races to newly opened systems.

Not by intention IMO, Obviously there can and will be those who abuse this potential but that does not define it as P2W to me.

It's the same as in EVE where there is many people coming in from other MMO like WOW where having bigger guns is basically what controls the game. EVE is not like that and often bigger guns are actually not at all beneficial or helpful. I believe that, like in EVE, DU will see some think they can buy their way to being OP but fall flat on their face as experience and yes, social connections and teamwork, will play a vastly more important role in how you establish yourself.

I just hope that weapon and combat mechanics in DU are not just about point and shoot but will take all the mechanics into consideration that would apply. Big guns should not be able to track a small target as easy as smaller guns, what is the falloff of accuracy, how does the angular velocity of the target impact tracking or hitpoint effectiveness? All these should come into play to make this interesting.

The people thinking that EVE is like Orbit .. Lock .. Hit F1 should have a rude awakening like they will in EVE when they come across a pilot or group of pilots who know better. Go check out Clarion Call videos by Rooks & Kings on Youtube to see EVE tactics in action (not some prefab hype demo reel but actual real action).. IF DU will be able to develop even close to these mechanics and possibilities in combat we will have a winner.. a huge one. Oh, and if you check these videos, pay attention to how this is anything but 'fully automated hit a button tactics'.. It's co-operation and collaboration as well as sacrifice and quick strategic thinking all rolled into one. There is automation in that people press buttons to make stuff happen, but just pressing buttons will not get them anywhere but deleted, it's the thought and preparation that goes into how and when to press the button that makes it work. This pretty much is the mechanic I have been talking about here and frankly, complex and interesting tactics and game play will be near impossible to achieve without it, in fact you will be stuck with 'point and shoot'.

Being able to buy the big  guns outright should not mean you buy yourself into winning, if it does then yes, that would be bad and P2W .. I expect  this will not be the case especially as we know how much JR and his team look upto/at EVE for it's depth and complexity.

A few name changes I noticed:
The Cinderfall Syndicate -> Aeonian Federation
The Aether -> Heimera Trade Exchange
Both The Solar Empire and Soul Nebula have grown noticeably.

Probably things changed. Or it may depend on ship/weapon size, because it makes no sense if small ship with 2-3 turrets needs a crew to operate it - pilot, 2-3 gunners, ammo loaders, exotic dancers and a personal gardener

the max speed in space is rumored to be 20,000 km/s, thats one mighty fast target to accurately ram........  lets just see how the game unfolds as we might be talking about a tactic that can only work near where ships slow down to dock/enter atmosphere etc.

Ship colliding against ship results in ship bouncing of ship with no damage at this stage of the game. So ramming tactics are pointless against ships at this stage of development.

CoreVamore got a reaction from Lethys in A better Arkship position(PLEASE MOVE TO AGORA)
The energy could be Fusion related, it could be harvested from higher dimensions as well (after all the ark has tech to pull alternate you's from alternate realities). We just dont know what power source(s) are used hundreds of years in the future.

Other questions arise: Who builds the elevator, the base, who anchors it?  Carrying the material either in raw or stored form to make the elevator and ground station would have added substantially to the arks travel load as well. (also increasing the energy needed to propel the craft.)

Also what happens when you have 3,000 people logging into the game within a few minutes - that is one very busy elevator! Even with a couple hundred elevators being used at one time it would be hard to meet the login demand. I definitely dont want to be waiting for an elevator to arrive to start my game/respawn.

I keep seeing this as being added complexity with no mechanics, story, nor game benefit. In fact I see it as a detriment to the game.

I commend you for putting forth ideas, however this will be my last word/post on this topic as I will state that I think its a bad idea.

    Greetings,

Attached you will find a public inquiry. As part of assessment procedures and studies, we occasionally send questions to individuals or organizations fitting certain criteria. Please find further details below.

    Message:

    --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

    INQUIRY BEGINS

    1) You recently revised and highlighted positions you deem vital, listing various from "Civilian Counselor" to "Labor" - do you think all of them...
    1.1) are vital?
1.2) can later be sufficiently utilized or be considered "full time jobs"?

    2) What level of growth (numbers) do you aim for in order to fill all of these branches or positions, as the structure does not appear to be effective or whole without sufficient numbers?

    3) Did you consider joining an existing similar organization or different type of organization before revealing "New Genesis"?
In turn, what do you think sets you apart right now, and what will set you apart from others in the future? Why should all those interested prefer you over existing entities of the same type?
Note: The response "I believe we have a more complex government structure and I think that's what makes us stand out." is already noted. Can you elaborate further?

    4) Can you elaborate on the (intended) format of the "weekly national brief to the Citizens"?

    5) Do you have a notable professional background or other experience and interests to aid you in your approach with New Genesis and all related aspects?

    6) Can you name three different aspects you like or want to see in potential members and three different aspects you dislike and do not want to see in potential members?
6.1) Can you describe the same for "key positions" and maybe state formal requirements at this time and then intended requirements for the future?

    7) Finally, what kind of partnerships do you prefer? What should the other organizational entity have or be like and what should it not have or be?

Please do not hesitate to inquire, should you need specifications. In advance I thank you for your time.

We also may be discounting how hard it may be to physically break into a properly constructed and secured voxel based structure - even one with a downed force field.

For example, and ive never done this, firing a machine gun into a 2 meter thick wall could take an hour or three to break through it. Maybe turning that gun towards a door might reduce that time to say 10 min.... but what happens if there is more than one door? What happens if a non authorised person is detected starting up several internal forcefields protecting key assets?

Im not saying any of the above is actually occurring in game, or is planned, idk, however this gives an indication of how tough breaking in somewhere could be.

While this system may work for some games, the devs have already said several times that it isn't how the payment plan is going to work in DU and there was a really large discussion just last week (I think) on the forums about a very similar alternate payment method. (You may find the arguments interesting, it wasn't really my thing., too much drama mixed in.)

    Hi Folks,

I had some time on my hands to do my hobby. And I have to say this, it is fist time in my life I decided to share with you some tunes I've created being inspired by this game. Even created account on soundcloud, yay!.

I really like the music behind this project but I was trying to add more diversity. You know... some faction related stuff

    Here it is, faction anthem.

Hope one day all my friends from Organisation will fly to it together

And this piece.. I would imagine yourself in deep space, out of oxygen, resources, energy but...

Apologies for some glitches, levels out of balance etc... This is very rough material, still trying to figure out how to record this properly from my moXF6.

And if you got inspired, created some music, art, please share it with us!

    Greetings adventurers!

Hopefully I will have access to the beta after the next round of crowdfunding kicks in. Until then I will monitor what goes on here and with the official DU video's.

As you can guess I'm from Australia so looking for other Australians to hang with.

I've built in Second Life and was an industrialist in Eve Online. DU is the perfect combo of these two aspects for me. (Though need to learn Lua to bring my creations 'to life'  ).

I'm also running on Ubuntu Linux - so that will also be a goal of mine, getting DU running under Linux using WINE.

So hit me up if any of the above sounds like we can work together.

CoreVamore got a reaction from Vorengard in Gravity Plating
Spaceships naturally have no gravity (well unless spinning or accelerating). I'm not in the pre - alpha to know how this is being handled in any ship that a person is not sitting in, i.e. big enough to walk around in.

So I'm proposing gravity plating (maybe as a technology) that a builder places on any surface designed to be the 'ground' within the space vehicle. This will allow walking within an open area of a ship, as well as vertical 'transport tubes', which would be lined on all sides with gravity plating to create zero gravity within the tube.

It may also help the dev team in linking avatars within a ship - last thing anyone wants is a ship to accelerate leaving all the non seated avatars floating in space.... or worse.... crushed against a bulkhead o.O

Anyway, thats my 2c, hope Im not suggesting something that has already been suggested lol

    Cheers
