    The Alioth Aerospace Expo is an exciting opportunity for ship enthusiasts, pilots, and manufacturers to gather and celebrate the latest and greatest in aerospace technology.

    When and where will the expo take place? The Expo will be an exclusive week-long event held semi annually in a convention center within the Arkship safe-zone. The first trial expos are slated to be held some time during Alpha and Beta.

    Why should I attend? The Expo aims to become a central hub of the shipbuilding scene. It is an opportunity for both industry giants and innovative startups to attract new civilian and military customers, by showcasing their talent to the wider player base.

    How will the Expo be funded? Exhibitions of various sizes will be rented out to attending manufacturers. In addition, sponsorships from outside organizations will be accepted. Alpha and Beta Expo attendance will be free of charge in an effort to raise awareness about the event.

    How will the Expo be organized? The expo will be organized by an Honorary Committee, made up of attending organization leaders and respected community members, who will elect an Executive Director for each expo. They will handle logistics, organization of the expo, hosted contests, and events.

    Hello everybody, i wish to play a game. Not any game that is, but a text based game for you forum people. 
     
    What is it like?
     
    Well imagine Hunger Games, or any other Battle Royale kind of game that you have encountered before.
    That's pretty much how it is going to be like. It's however based on my own creativity and everything is something i've 
    come up with myself and wish to share. Also don't forget that this is tweaked to sci-fi setting.
     
    Now how is it going to be set up?
     
    It will be set up the way that people interested in participating will have to PM me to reserv a player slot, there will be a max of 10 players.
    When it starts every player will get to make one move per day, and this is based on live time. The moves will consist of having your
    character either travel around the map or attacking, sleeping, chasing gear or whatever more that is presented at the start. Players are also allowed to communicate with eachother in the comment log but it should be limited talk, i cannot however restrain people from talking too much but you get the point.

    Day one all participants will spawn in the Sector Zero, in this middle point sector there will be weapons, gear, items of different kinds. 
    If you wish to grab an armored space suit or run away to another sector and hide is all up to the players themselves. 
    I will be using a random number generator where i've put in possible events everyday and it will tell me if an event will happen that day
    and if so, which kind. More importantly a random generator or dice roller will also be used for attempted attacks, everyone will have the 
    same chances (accuracy) when trying to shoot another player.
     
    EXAMPLE OF A HAPPENING: "Day 3 starts out with Player Y moving across the dangerous mountain tops at Sector A1 only to his horror face Player X waiting for him on the north side. Y Wants revenge for the equippment stolen from him Day 2 and blasts X in the chest with his Standard Issue Pistol for (damage) X twitches and turns around and dives down a cave in the mountain side 50 metres behind him. He has to spend his night there.

    (Note that damage, health and other things like that will not be revealed until it starts)
     
    There will be rules for how you can move, for one you might have two movement points per day, you can use one to move from a sector to an adjacent one or hide the night in shelter, maybe attack another player. Or to two of these things. Some options will be presented to you as hidden features that you discover if you get into a situation with the right requirements.
     
    So when would this game start?
     
    Preferably i will fill all 10 participant slots and thus be able to decide on a date pretty fast, otherwise i'll give it a few days and then set a starting date with the participants there are.

    On the community site, we should have the ability to make orgs that are members of orgs. Numbers of members is calculated by adding up the total number of members of each org.
    To my knowledge this will be possible in game and then we could more accurately represent larger organizations. For instance, Cinderfall Syndicate would include all cinderfall organizations and staff, rather than relying on players to join multiple orgs, they are automatically added to the count of both when they join a cinderfall organization.

    First, and most importantly, this isn't an official NovaQuark project, and I don't have any idea what the interfaces in the actual game will look like, I'm basing most of this off of the LUA Dev blog and my knowledge of how C/C++ bindings are exposed to LUA. If they want me to change the name of this I'll be happy to. Secondly, I have no idea where this topic belongs so I'm posting it here in General. I think we need a programming-related subforum but that likely won't happen until Alpha at the soonest. 
     
     
    Over the Holidays I was thinking about tools I could work on now that might be of some interest to people out there. Things like a ship crew scheduling app, a wiki for programmers, a timeline site keeping track of DU events, a ship delivery scheduling utility, etc. Ultimately, however, I kept coming back to this idea, as it would help me while learning a new language for my job and it would help people who don't know much about LUA (or programming in general) start to wrap their head around what it might be like in DU (as well as help some of those AI-projects out there). 
     
     
    I came up with the idea to create a Core Unit "Emulator" as a standalone web service that people can target with LUA scripts. 
     
    I'll try to explain what this looks like... 
     
    A programmer would set up LUA on their computer, install the LUA sockets module, as well as copy a piece of code into their own projects that would bootstrap them into being able to communicate with a server over the net.
     
    From there, function calls into an object would act as calls to a "Core Unit", which under the hood would really just be some socket communications going on to a server doing all of the actual work. 
     
    From the perspective of a programmer, they get access to various details about a ship (speed, velocity, pitch, yaw, rotation, etc) that they have to adjust to meet a set of parameters (per round) after a simulation is run. So your scripts would have to account for things like losing an engine, running low on fuel, turbulence, etc. and ultimately get the ship into a given set of passing parameters within a given period of time. 
     
    Alternatively, I could write a standalone program that you use to run your scripts against, it doesn't particularly matter to me if it's a remote service or not. 
     
     
     
    How does this help new programmers? It would give the ability for people to try writing LUA in a way that resembles what LUA programming in games is actually like. 
     
    It won't be what Dual Universe is exactly like, none of us have the ability to write something like that because we can't know what the interfaces actually are. However, it will give you enough experience in LUA to be able to adapt what you learn very quickly. Ultimately it comes down to having a set of elements giving you information via function calls, processing that information, and being able to do things with said elements via other function calls. If you can get around that basic concept then you'll be in a much better position overall. 
     
     
     
     
    It would give people an excuse to start learning LUA now, but it won't be very "fun" or realistic, and you'd have to use it knowing that it's not like Dual Universe at all. There probably wouldn't really be graphics either, you'd be flying by sensors only... 
     
    I'd even love some help building it on the server side, which I'm currently doing in Golang because I have to learn it for my job. It's not super difficult to program in, but it would certainly be cool to have a helping hand on programming the actual physics side of things. I just don't want to do it all myself, although things like this tend to go that way. 
     
    All in all, I'd be willing to help people learn LUA along the way as well, provided you have some knowledge about computers already. You could easily take what you learn and apply it to other games that are scripted through LUA as well (WoW is one of them). 
     
     
    Who would be interested in even using something like this?

    Sure, now you do state the purpose of VMS is to generate revenue by any forms of industry and you got directors elected internally from each department, your organisation does qualify as an Incorporated entity (Inc.) .
     
    And directors can work as labor union leaders within a corporation, so it works for your thing I guess.

    Since there are no defined sectors as in eve, you can just freely attack anyone and steamroll any base not built in the ark zone ofc.

    What do we offer you?
    We offer an organised internal system, regular payments+bonuses, safety from pirates, a emergency fond, a building plot in our planetary base/city, possible promotions up to a sector manager, and good payments, 1/3 of the profit goes directly to the members.
     
    Can I be in another organisation at the same time?
    Yes and No. You are allowed to be in big factions/states (for example the Terran Union or Cinderfall Syndicate) if that faction allows that, but you are not allowed to work for another company. Untrusted Factions (for example Band of Outlaws, because they support piracy) are also forbidden.
     
    Do I have to be online a certain amount of time per day/week/month?
    No. You don't have to. You will receive a monthly payment if you complete a specific amount of jobs/tasks. For every other completed task you will recieve a bonus (if you complete a very high amount of tasks you can recieve a DAC, if they are affordable ingame) and we will consider your work and effort when it comes to promotions.
     
    How can I join?
     
    Everyone is allowed to join VMS. After you signed in, we will ask you some questions about what skills and personal preferences you have.

    What will I do in the company?
    That dependes from sector to sector:
    S.M.A.R.T.  (Scientific Material Development and Research Team): In this sector you will become a designer to develop new ship, a scientist that tests new parts and methods or a driver in the practical tests (basic voxel design knowledge recommended) Mine&Craft: In this sector you will be either a worker on our mining facilities or on the Vortrex I where you build the blueprints from the S.M.A.R.T. sector. TnT (Trade and Transport): You will either transport good and persons from A to B or you will set up market stations, do the advertising, find new customers, etc. Bots (Beneficial Optimization of Technology and Systems): You will be the engine behind everything. In Dual Universe, most actions and objects can be automated. To join this sector you need basic/intermediate programming skills generally (if you know how LUA works, even better) The First Order: even a neutral company gets sometimes attacked by other organisations or pirates. This sector secures the comapny. S.P.E.E.D. (Scanning, Prospecting, Exploration and endless Documentation): Prospecting, Field research etc. What qualities do I need to become a member of VMS?
    Motivation to play the game and help us to have success The basic skills (ingame and in real life) like flying a ship being able to work in a team Intermediate level in the english language, so we can communicate with each other You need to respect the constitution and company rules

    I suggest organization creation window (meaning this one) to also include basic information about:
    Copyright infringement (and maybe how to avoid it) Disapproved types of org names (Apple, Microsoft, etc.) Currently, creating an organization does not require one to even visit the forums. Since NQ's statements about aforementioned things are hidden inside certain topics (as far as I know), I feel they go unnoticed by many organization founders. Also, the org creation page only offers a link to the early devblog post about orgs that mentions nothing about copyright. I do not know how the copyright-wise problematic orgs are officially dealt with, but have seen some other forum users politely notifying newfound orgs about clear issues. It is admirable, but in my opinion should not be relied upon. 
     
    I realise we have not even hit alpha test yet, but still believe that adding the suggested information into mandatory text every organization founder should read would reduce unnecessary frustration.

    I don't know how everyone else feels about this, but I would like the ability to start purchasing DAC's now to help with the fundraising. 
     
    I'm one of the people who has a high pledge already (Boosted Emerald) and so going to the next level will set me back ~$4000.
     
    Instead of doing that, or having to open a second account to pledge, I think it would be useful to be able to pledge in smaller increments by purchasing DAC's now ahead of release.
     
    In addition to that, I would love to be able to purchase pledges to give away. I know that technically you're not "buying" Alpha access with a pledge, it's more of a perk and a thank-you for pledging at all. However, I also know there are plenty of people out there who just don't have the financial means to be able to get into Alpha but would be valuable members of the community if they could provide feedback and help to get the word out a bit more.
     
    Opening these options up would allow me (and others in my position) to continue to help the fundraising efforts, and to also help bring more people into the community. 
     
     
    tl;dr : 

    - I want to be able to purchase DAC's now to help with Fundraising

    Automated systems only can do a specific amount of tasks per second. this means that it will be impossible to control a complex ship alone (efffectivness aside, the code won't be fast enough to control all the objects and parts). In my opinion you really should need a big crew for a big ship. If you destroy the bridge of a starship, it should still be able to work, for example. That would cause a change in war strategies because it makes more sense to attack the main engine or other parts. (modular destruction has already been confirmed, as far as i know)

    I'm hoping for a good non-lethal stun gun for the sports that the new-ish organisation, called Dice, is setting up. With a non-lethal gun, you could play laser tag or something while floating in an asteroid field as a sort of relaxed fun or a training for your organisations military.

    I like idea, if it would be balanced enough. Also depend how easy it would be to kill. Imagine what the hell would be around safe zoneon first planet, since everyone respawn there. Not even reasonable game PvP, but hundreeds of trolls with free-30day-accounts.
     
    Question of balance I would say.
