Some progress on the mining game mechanics

In this Devblog, we aim to shed some light on a very important part of the future gameplay of Dual Universe: scanning & mining. What follows is our current thinking on these features, as we are currently implementing them. This may still evolve in the future, in particular thanks to your feedback! So, let’s have a look.   Scanning is the activity of prospecting to find new resources in the ground on planets. Resources are physically geographically located, they have a span and a size, and they are generated via our procedural algorithms together with the planet as voxel blobs. They will be spread on the planets based on rarity and how important they actually are in crafting recipes. Some rare resources will not be found on Alioth, the starting planet, so you will have to journey out into the universe to locate them.. Each biome will have a set of typical resources associated with it, so prospecting starts by “knowing your biomes” The table below presents a simple rough description of how we plan to stage the levels of difficulty for materials:           Our current plans for prospecting are focused on two scanning techniques: radial scanning and directional scanning.   Radial scanning will allow you to probe for a given class of material in a given radius: the scanner will be able to show you what percentage of the area you’re scanning is made up of the class of material you are seeking. It’s only partial information. You won’t know where it is exactly, just that 1.6% of the volume of your scanning sphere is filled with metal, for example. A scan “operation” will take some time. Longer scans will yield more precise measurements. There will be a level of imprecision in the exact size of the radius, which you will be able to improve via skills.   How does it work? Well, most of the time, the thing you are looking for will not be in the sphere you are probing. So, you’ll see a 0% signal reading. You will then move and suddenly, a signal will show up. You know that your sphere has just “hit” a vein of what you are searching for. At this moment, you will be able to deploy a sphere marker, that will basically help you to visualize the volume where your target material is likely located.. The marker will stay there while you move to another location and start again. By intersecting markers you will start to be able to pinpoint more precisely where your precious material is located. This is the general idea.   Now, the exact technique you will use will also depend on the type of veins that correspond to the material you are looking for and what kind scanner you have. Consider these two schema that illustrate different strategies depending on the relative size of the average vein compared to the radius of the scanner (the double circling of the spheres illustrate the imprecision on the radius):                 These strategies will be important to master, because mining randomly will just exhaust your time and resources and will usually return only very common and not very worthwhile materials. Mining gear will have fixed scanning ranges that correspond to their levels. You won’t be able to adjust these ranges or change the scanning radius. They’re fixed. So, no choice: you need to move!   Now, once you start to have a better idea where you material is, you might start to use the directional scanner. This is much more straightforward. The directional scanner will give you the amount of the 4 or 5  most significant materials within a cone of a few degrees in the direction you’ve pointed your scanner.. The max distance will be a level dependent parameter, but will remain relatively small so you need to use radial scanning first to narrow your search area. The signal received for a given piece of material will decrease with distance, which should give you precious “gradient” information to follow. This is roughly how this could look:           In some future expansion we will probably add some more advanced tools for prospectors as well as planetary scale global information to help you judge the potential of newly discovered planets.   Our vision for this gameplay (as well as most of the gameplay of Dual) is to make it deep. We want players to be able to develop their own very real expertise on best practice, specializations, etc. We want the activity of prospectors to remain challenging even when you master it, so that a good prospector will have a very high value as part of a team. Now, for easy and abundant materials, it will be possible to find resources much more easily (we are considering a simple local highlight of what is there, so you just “see” it). But for the more rare and uncommon materials, we want it to be rewarding and feel like a real achievement. We provide the tools, but players will have to come up with the best strategies to get to the most precious material. The way you dig for gold as a beginner, and the way you will approach it after 100 hours of being a prospector are totally different. Sure there is a skill tree, but the actual trial and error experience also makes a difference. For a MMO game that is supposed to be played for hundreds of hours, anything not challenging quickly becomes a chore. We want to prevent that.   Now, about mining: it will be done via your Nanoformer. The harder the material and the larger the volume collected, the longer it will take. We have chosen an energy-based model where each material is capable of absorbing a certain level of energy before being “mined”. So, you will be able to upgrade your Nanoformer energy throughput to improve your mining as well as various mining skills. For more advanced mining, and possibly some rare materials, dedicated tools will enter the scene, but this might not be available at release, but rather in a future expansion. We are considering the possibility of Mining Units inside your constructs, but this will be in an expansion after release and it will require some careful balancing to make sure standard mining is still an option, in particular for beginners.   Interestingly, we imagine that the “profession” of prospector/scanner and the “profession” of miner could very well be separate. Some people will specialize in finding large veins of important materials (and possibly sell the intel about the location), while some others will specialize in mining it, focusing on a mining site for several weeks or months. When you exploit a deep vein, you will need to install things like lifts, vehicles, containers, and clean wide shafts to ease material and dirt evacuation. Maybe even factories close to the vein to transform the ore into pure material. This differs from most other games where scanning and mining are usually very similar and the activity of mining and scanning alternate frequently as you jump from one asteroid to another, or one mining spot to the other.   We hope you enjoyed this short intro and, as usual, we are very excited to hear your feedback and ideas! We are developing this at the moment, so it’s a good time for the community to share your thoughts and influence what is going on!     JC Baillie, Project Lead.

    MasteredRed -
All of them have no began walking down the corridor.
      Dominar Diablo -
      Turns around to Red.
"You already know Lanez?" He'd glance to Lanez as he says this, eyebrows raised.
      Rmhenn -
      "Making bank and having style."
      MasteredRed -
"I know him, but we've not talked much. He's had some interest in the DUA, but he would never join until we actually arrived. It was a pain.”
      Dominar Diablo -
"I see. Well, Lanez is a part of my own, small, organization. Along with one other."
      rmhenn -
"You have to be sure before you make a commitment."
      MasteredRed - 09/14/2016
    "Yes"
Red glances at Lanez with an unamused expression.
"It's rather annoying to have someone try and keep you on the ropes."
      GrandMasterApex - 09/14/2016
"Speaking of bank gentlemen, there is some business to which I must tend first."
Apex turns to face another direction.
"It seems I left some holotapes for myself which have left some unanswered questions."
Apex then gives a signal to his pet a follow command.
      Rmhenn -
rmhenn signals to his five pets to follow him.
      GrandMasterApex -
"May i suggest we arrange a time and place point to meet once I have tended to this matter?"
      MasteredRed -
"Yes. I'm going to go think for a while and recover memories. I'll meet back here in approximately two hours."
Then, MasteredRed heads off, leaving the discussion to fellow members.
      GrandMasterApex –
GreandMasterApex departs leaving the discussion to fellow members
      Dominar Diablo -
Nods. Alright then. I'm going to go find my third and final...'co-worker'. Bye now"
He turns sharply and heads off in the direction he and Red came from. He pauses though, and turns back for a moment.
      "Lanez. no more knives?"
Almost smiling now, he leaves the two.
Time has passed, and hours have been spent before GrandMasterApex appears in the pub once again.
      Halo381 -
Daniel walks into the Arkship Pub, dressed in his military suit. He takes a gander at his surroundings whilst stretching away post-cryo aches and pains. He yawns and slides into a seat near where another man had situated himself. As he does so, he pulls out a datapad and begins inspecting the information upon it.
      GrandMasterApex -
"Hello their, I do not believe we have met. I am GrandMasterApex. Who might you be?"
      rmhenn -
Lanez sits on a bar stool, with another glass of water, inspecting a tactical knife that had previously been a spoon and two forks.
      Halo381 -
Daniel looks around, then at Apex "Me? I'm Daniel Carter."
      rmhenn -
With a flick of Lanez's wrist, the knife transforms into five spoons. "Nice to meet you, Daniel."
      GrandMasterApex -
"I see, nice to meet you Daniel, tell me, how long have you been awake now?"
      He turns to face Lanez.
      "Any more tricks?"
      rmhenn -
With another flick of his wrist, Lanez's five spoons turn into a deck of cards made of paper.
      "Pick a card."
      Halo381 -
Daniel shrugs "A few hours. Been working out by my locker so I could get the kinks out of my muscles. Cryo is a nice way to prolong your life, but damn is it painful.”
He turns to Lanez "Who're you?"
      GrandMasterApex -
Without any facial expression "Let me guess, they're all ace of spades?"
      rmhenn -
"Lanez Thiesant, Trader, knife expert, master magician. Pick a card."
"Nope" flips and spreads deck of cards so all cards are seen to be correct.
Lanez pulls cards back into deck and reshuffles.
"So, are you guys going to pick a card or no?"
      Halo381 -
Daniel shakes his head "I'm looking for someone currently." He looks back at his datapad, swiping through information so fast a normal human wouldn't be able to follow.
      Rmhenn -
"What you reading" Lanez states in his usual manner.
      "also"
      "nobody has picked a card."
      GrandMasterApex -
"Well considering those cards could turn back into a knife at any given moment can you blame us?"
      Halo381 -
"A manifesto of the ship's 'cargo', i.e. us"
      rmhenn -
"Whatever." Lanez states, turning one of the kings into an apple and taking a bite out of it.

"Down with the king." Lanez mumbles to himself.
      MasteredRed –
From down the coridor walks MasteredRed into the room.
Ugh.... the Cryosleep has left me with less memories than I expected.
He turns his head to notice everyone in the pub.
"Oh hello Apex, Lanez... and who are you?"
He turns his head towards the new man looking at the datapad.
      rmhenn -
"An avid reader of passenger lists."
Lanez reaches behind the counter, takes a handful of spoons, and deconstructs them with his nanoformer.
      Halo381 -
      Daniel rolls his eyes
      rmhenn -
Lanez take his deck of cards, and with a swish of his hand, turns them into a knife again.
      MasteredRed -
"Well I see he's reading passenger lists, but I've already memorized them. Anyways, sorry for the interruption. Let me introduce myself first. I am MasteredRed. Pleasure to meet you.”
He gives a slight bow before standing straightening up
      Halo381 -
Daniel nods politely to Red "Likewise. I'm Daniel Carter."
      MasteredRed -
"Daniel Carter.... oh right! I think you were at a Cinderfall Meeting earlier, correct?"
      Halo381 -
"Yes, I'm the CEO of Chromion Industrial."
      MasteredRed -
"Ah yes. I'm still a bit tired, so everything is turning into somewhat of a blur. That, and I'm trying to restore some of my memories. It's a pain as you might expect."
      Halo381 -
Daniel raises an eyebrow "You've lost much of your memory? That's odd."
      MasteredRed -
"No, just more than initially expected. Although you saying that, do you have mostly intact memory?"
      rmhenn -
Lanez takes two knives and an ace of spades, and somehow turns them into a dove. Astonishing.
      Halo381 -
Daniel nods "Talking with the AI, she suspects it's because of my age. I believe her exact words were 'People around the age of twenty are in their prime. As such, they retain much more information than those younger or older than them.'"
"Personally, I'd attribute it to the cybernetic implants."
        MasteredRed –
"Potentially. Still, I wouldn't imagine that you memory would remain mostly intact in any state."
He puts his hand on his own head.
"I seem to have forgotten my name, but I'm very sure that it was myself who purposely did it. I don't know exactly why, but it's missing."
      Halo381 -
"Huh. I remember the last six years up to launch quite well, and most of the stuff before that is fuzzy but... mend-able? I think that's the word I'm lookin' for."
      MasteredRed -
"In either case, I've memorized what I need to. Most of the stuff about Cinderfall is came back to me during the meeting, so that helps."
He looks at his members present
"As far as the DUA, I remember everything perfectly. Some things are foggy, but I don't think that's a mistake. I planned for Project Rebirth and might have gotten accepted in, but the Cinderfall Initiative guaranteed it."
      rmhenn – 09/14/2016
"I'm just glad i can still do magic" Lanez says while petting the dove
      MasteredRed -
"I'm just glad that more stuff isn't getting thrown around at the moment."
      rmhenn -
      "I got knives for that"
      MasteredRed -
      Glares at Lanez.
      Rmhenn -
"What? It is a valid strategy."
      Halo381 -
Daniel twists his left arm in it's metal socket, pulls it free, and waves it in the air  "I'll warn you, I'm armed."
      rmhenn -
Lanez pulls his stash of spoons out of his pocket and turns it into an exact replica of Daniel's arm "I am too, and I have more."
    Halo381 -
Daniel chuckles "You and I are gonna get along.”
      rmhenn -
"It would seem so" Lanez says, not hiding his amusement.
"Well anyways lads, I have to go take a tactical nap, so I shall see you all later."
      MasteredRed -
      "Tactical. Well phrased"
      rmhenn -
Lanez gets up from the bar and leaves, taking his dove and spoons with him.
      Halo381 -
Daniel waves his arm in farewell
Daniel sighs and places his arm on his lap, rolling up his left sleeve "This thing is a pain to put back on, but that pun was worth it."
      MasteredRed -
"Flesh and bones don't quite bend that way sadly. I mean, I can try. There won't be a Director of the DUA after that."
      Halo381 -
Daniel snorts, sliding the appendage back into it's bearing. He winces as the synthetic nerves reconnect, the limb flexing a little. He turns it and bends it at the joints a few times, ensuring that it's still functional.  Standing, he turns to MasteredRed.
"In any event, I've located the person I'm looking for. I'm gonna go camp out by her hibernacle till she gets up."
And with that, Daniel walks out of the Pub, waving over his shoulder.
      MasteredRed -
Lovely fellow. Now, to think about what to do and wait till the more of my members awaken.
        Dominar Diablo -
The door opens, slowly. Making barely any sound as it swings on it's recently oiled hinges. As it opens, a cloaked figure steps in, his footsteps barely audible. The figure was tall, but lean. A face was partially visible under the hood. The figure pauses, glancing around the room and examining the interior. The room was dimly lit. There were tables and chairs sprawled everywhere, most of which were occupied. Food and drink were sitting infront of the majority of those who dared eating twelve thousand year old powder food. Some of the occupants were now looking at the new comer.
Taking the cloak off revealed a young man with a stern face. Dark eyes scanned the mass of faces and stopped once he spotted MasteredRed. Making his way toward Red, he took a seat beside him.
      "You look lonely."
After all these years in space, anyone would be. Even if we were all dreaming, the thought gets to you. Our home is gone, we're currently in orbit around a strange, new planet that is supposed to be our sanctuary. What on Ailoth will happen when we finally reach the surface...
      MasteredRed -
From the looks of things, MasteredRed had payed no heed to his speech. Whether it be the intense effect of the Cryostasis or the massive amount of work that was done, he was asleep.
      Dominar Diablo -
Remains silent for the time being. Waiting for Red to notice his presence"
Watching all these people is like watching the aftermath of a war. In the end, we succeeded in our survival, but to what cost...
      Halo381 -
Daniel returns to the Pub with another figure in tow, a woman in fact. She wore the same uniform as he, walking confidently behind him. Daniel walked toward MasteredRed and situated himself in a seat directly across from Red, with the woman taking up the seat directly to Daniel's left.
      Dominar Diablo -
I watched the two approach. Some time had past since I sat down next to Red, he still didn't seem to notice I was even there...
Dominar would be placed on Red's left. His features were unclear as the light didn't reach this far into the Pub. He watches The two as the seat themselves.
      rmhenn -
Lanez, somehow appearing as everyone mysteriously blinks simultaneously, sits to Dominar's left respectively, that’s just creepy with the whole blinking thing.
      Dominar Diablo -
Feeling Lanez's presence doesn't cause Dominar to react. Instead, he remains silent and still. He and Lanez were slightly shrouded by shadows.
So quickly do those take up the mantles of their beliefs. All it takes is a few, well placed words...
"You're Daniel." The voice came from the one further covered in shadows. It sounded no more then a young adult
      Halo381 -
Daniel and his companion both glance at Lanez upon his appearance, then at each other, both rolling their eyes
"How ominous of you to appear like that" Daniel said mockingly
      Dominar Diablo -
      "He got it from me..."
      rmhenn -
"magic, magic, and more magic" Lanez says, throwing confetti into the air.
      Dominar Diablo -
"So, are you Daniel?" He said.
Even though there was now confetti in my hair, my tone remains unhindered.
      Halo381 -
"That I am. Who might you be?"
      Dominar Diablo -
"My name is Dominar." His reply was rather blunt, as if there was nothing else to say
      Halo381 - 09/15/2016
Daniel raises an eyebrow "No title?"
      Dominar Diablo -
Dominar was wearing a black cloak. The hood from which he now pulled of off his head, revealing a rather young man. Dark eyes seemed to stare into Daniel's soul.
"I'm his boss." His reply was blunt once more as he jerked a thumb at Lanez. It was pretty evident by now Dominar was very young indeed.
      Halo381 -
Daniel shrugs "Good nuff. Nice to meet you, mate." Daniel extends a hand
      Dominar Diablo -
Reaches over to grasp Daniel's hand in return. It should be worth noting a Nanoformer was present here. He nods courtly as they shake hands.
"So, which large organization do you hold power over?"
      Halo381 -
"Chromion Industrial. This is my assistant," Daniel indicates the woman beside him, who nods her head in acknowledgment and speaks,
"I am Adelyne Karsten, pleased to make your acquaintance."
      Dominar Diablo -
      He nods again, smiling slightly
"I see. I suppose the rest of your members are also still sleeping."
      Halo381 -
      Both Daniel and Adelyne nod.
      Dominar Diablo -
He also nods slowly. Glancing at Lanez for a moment, he pauses.
"So, what is it your plan to do as the leader of Chromiom Industrial?"
      Halo381 -
Daniel speaks up "Chromion is intended to be a major supplier of resources to the factions on this new world, as well as a shipbuilding corporation"
      Dominar Diablo -
'I suppose that was pretty obvious.."
      He glances to MasteredRed now.
It would be rather stupid if he still hadn't noticed me...I suppose he's just getting used to everything that is going on. He looks as if his mind is still on Earth.
      MasteredRed -
"Alright.... I've been awake for the last couple of minutes."
      Dominar Diablo -
      "Right..."
The smallest of smiles appears on Dominar's face.
      MasteredRed -
"So Dominar, I have an offer."
      Dominar Diablo -
      Dominar raises an eyebrow slightly.
      MasteredRed -
He fully sits up, and faces Dominar.
"I've noticed something... It seems you have some ability that I would be interested in."
      Dominar Diablo -
Eyebrow rises higher. Another, tiny smile appears on his face.
      MasteredRed -
"I'm willing to accept you and your unit to the DUA. Standard rules and all that. What I'm asking is if you'd want to join."
      Dominar Diablo -
      Dominar's eyebrows cease rising.
"Ah, I take it you already know about my little...secret. Fair enough. I was going to approach you with the same request sooner or later. Alright, I'm in"
      MasteredRed -
"Good. I didn't expect someone to actually be invited while on the Arkship, but times change."
He goes back to his resting position, not being fully asleep though.
      Dominar Diablo -
Remains silent for a moment then returns his gaze to Daniel.
"New title it seems. I am a member of the DUA."
Lies back in his own seat, staring up at the ceiling. Why haven't we landed yet? How long will it be before we finally do? What will we find down there?  I suppose only time will tell…  He closes his eyes and places his arms behind his head.
First thing I'm going to do…

Prior Note: This is copied from an RP channel me and my org members were in. This is just pretty much what we constructed on the spot. I edited it a bit to make it into this format, but it's mostly raw. Anyways, if you do decide to look through this, hope you enjoy it.

    Non-Canon Roleplay Begin:

    Dominar Diablo-
It had been sometime since he had awoken. The AI had been giving him instructions, explaining to him why he had spent the last 12 thousand years in a glass tube. After walking around the halls of the Arkship, he was directed to a locker by the AI. Inside were the standard issue spacesuits. Taking one of these suits out now, he started putting it on. It took him a decent half an hour to dome the suit, as all of were cold. Once the suit was on however, he activated the in-build life support. His entire body heated up in a matter of seconds, the coldness dying away.
"That's a relief..." Speaking still took an effort. My throat was still dry.
"Sounds like you desperately need something to drink." It was the AI. She had long since ditched the robotic personality after she was asked to sound more human and less, well mechanical.
"I can direct you to the Arkship Pub, if you so wish."
"Yeah...alright." Taking one last look into the locker, I noticed a simple, black, cloak. I paused for a moment, before reaching inside the locker and grabbing the cloak. I domed the cloak and pulled the hood over my face, before turning and following the AI's directions to the Arkship Pub
What the hell is going to happen next…
      MasteredRed -
Once we knew our path towards our lives, we hurried for it. Not looking back, not trying to think of what was before us. We just knew that we would come into this world looking for the best opportunity to lay the foundations for our strength.
The strength we desperately tried to cling to and find for ourselves. Little was known about where anyone would go, as people were waiting. All that was left was the simple idea. The idea for that foundation.
"Hmmmm. I wonder what they're all up to.…"
I imagine we're about to enter into the atmosphere here soon. If things work out the way I recorded my expectations of them to, the race for power will begin shortly.
      Dominar Diablo -
The halls of the Arkship became more and more repetitive. The same walls, the same doors, and absolutely no windows. The AI was still speaking to me, still explaining things
"How long until we reach the Arkship Pub...?"
She replied, promptly. "Not long now, however, I recommend you take a slight detour."
"Why would I want to take a detour?"
"Because there is another crew member who has recently awoken. He is just around the corner to you."
"I see. I suppose it's worth taking a detour then, where to?"
      "Through this door."
I looked to my left and noticed a door that had suddenly unlocked, the light at it's handle was bright green. I approached the door and grasped the handle, turning it sharply and pushing the door open. I was met with another hallway. In front of me, a man.
      MasteredRed -
Never was it imagined the things that would go on. Never would it be imagined how people would band together only knowing a name to follow. A name that indicates who they want to follow.
      "Ummm.…"
The man sees someone in front of him and turns around directly, almost looking to avoid the person in front of him.
I'm just going to go find some tools or something. I'll need to get off this ship quickly.
From there, he proceeds to run directly away from the person behind him.
      Dominar Diablo -
Seeing the man run away at the sight of me was rather unsettling. I watched him go, unsure of what to do, trying to figure out why he would run.
      "Uhh.."
"It seems this particular crew members is being careful. He's not scared of you, just unsure. I'm monitoring his vitals and the only thing that is out of the ordinary is...well, nothing."
The AI had said something quite unexpected. Rather alarming to the person on the receiving end of this speech.
"So, if he's not scared, he's simply avoiding me? I didn't think this cloak was worth avoiding..."
Having this thought, he began running after the man.
      "Hey! Stop!"
      MasteredRed -
"Huh? Seems he was actually expecting something to happen."
The running member stops and immediately turns around.
What could he possibly want. I need to find all the members as soon as possible.
"Ok then. What do you want sir?"
      Dominar Diablo -
He skids to a stop and pauses.
I'm actually surprised he stopped running.
The sudden burst of energy had quickly faded, the after effects of 12 thousand years of sleep taking a heavy toll. He eyes the man for a moment before taking his cloak off, revealing dark eyes, dark hair and a stern face.
"What..why are you running?" His expression would be curious, but stern. It is worth noting this man is no more then a young adult.
"You are the first person I have met that is also awake."
      GrandMasterApex -
After 12,000 years, finally his pod opened. Stepping out slowly, very weak and very confused, the man paused to look at a familiar site. Running through his thoughts to find answers, he realized that he knew very little and questions began to spring all over his mind. Looking down he saw a card, with a picture and a name that seemed familiar. Taking the card he sat down, staring blankly into space, lost in his thoughts.
      MasteredRed -
"I ran because I have things to do. I've already been to one meeting and I don't have much time to lose."
I wonder why he ran after me so quickly. Doesn't quite make sense to me, but I'll hear him out.
"Now, can you pleases give me a reason as to why I should stay. After all, I can't stay here forever."
If I can't get to an area that's large in open, I won't be able to spot any DUA members before they leave the Arkship. I shouldn't be wasting more time than I already have.
      Dominar Diablo -
      He pauses again.
"I don't really have a reason for stopping you, only that you are the first person I've seen since I woke. Can you tell me your name?"
He's obviously in a hurry. I probably should not keep him here for long, but even so...
      MasteredRed -
"I'm MasteredRed. At least, that's the name I have with me. I imagine we've experienced major cognitive dysfunction, or at least most of us. I can remember a bit more details than some people I met at a meeting, but it's still blurry.”
He must have been affected by the journey quite a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if he's lost about 98% or so of his memories. That's the average I guess.
"So, what would your name be? Don't mind me asking but since you've asked for mine."
      Dominar Diablo -
"Dominar is my name. Dominar DIablo. I don't remember much about...well. I remember a few things only. What I do know is.."
He pulls out a piece of paper from a pouch at his belt. It was a list of names and organizations present on this Arkship After scanning through it real quick, he nodded and put it away.
"It says here you are the head of one of the many organizations present on this Arkship. I suppose you are looking for the rest of your members. Do you mind If I stick with you for a while? Perhaps I'll end up joining your cause. If we are to 'rebuild civilization', it will not happen if we are all going solo."
      MasteredRed -
"Ah. Well, good to see someone has been keeping track of things. Probably Anasasi. However, I don't think we'll see each other unless your going to a large open area that I think is ahead.”
Honestly though, he could join the DUA, but I'm not sure if he has the qualifications yet.
      Raises hand
"Anyways, it's been nice talking to you. Sorry I've had to keep it short."
      Dominar Diablo -
      He frowns
"Right...well, If you are looking for a 'large and open' area, might I suggest the Arkship Pub? it's where I was headed originally, before I noticed you were nearby. I could take you there if you want...It's the place you will most likely find who you are looking for. It's obvious by now you are looking for someone."
He examines MasteredRed. Taking in his being, summing him up, so to speak.
This man looks like he knows what he's doing. I wonder which organization he's in charge of. He thinks back to the piece of paper Right, the DUA. I think I heard about them before we launched...
      MasteredRed -
"Yes that would work. I'm a little bit tired.... as usual. All this stuff can be a bit overwhelming at first. That's why I tried a couple exercises to try and prioritize what I remember. It seems to have worked out. I just can't remember my name.”
As all these events unfolded, something beyond this conversation, beyond this group was unfolding. The planet Alioth was bellow them, and the starts within their reach.
      GrandMasterApex -
Walking weakly down the corridor, following the voice of the AI, the man now known as GrandMasterApex was recalling the things he had found while investigating his room. As well as a mechanical pet and some strange items known as DACs, he had stumbled across a holotape. The contents of which still puzzled him more than they had helped. He reached the Arkship pub and proceeded through the door
He finds an empty table and sits down, staring blankly around.
      Dominar Diablo -
"I see. Dominar Diablo is my real name, I know that much. On the other hand, I don't remember anything about myself in particular, even though I remember a few events leading up to the Arkship's launch. Alright then, the Pub is this way."
He gestured to the way he he came from and then turned to head in that direction
I never imagined things would turn out this way. When I first woke, I felt like I would be on my own for a long time. Perhaps it wont be that way...
The AI spoke now  "There seems to be another crew member who has awoken while you two were talking. I could direct you to him if you so wish, he is a member of the DUA. MasteredRed would want to find him"
Dominar stops walking at this and turns
"Red. The AI just told me one of your members has woken and is nearby. Do you want to find him? Actually, he just entered the Arkship Pub."
      MasteredRed -
"Hmmm. How convenient. I don't have an AI with me due to a number of problems I had. However, it make sense that he would be waking up now."
Before we left, I tried to grab a list of those who would be removed of Cryogenic Sleep first. It should be Apex, but I might be mistaken.
"Alright. I assume you know the way. Could you please go with me to find him?"
      Dominar Diablo –
      He nods
"I’ll lead you to him. This way now."
He turns around again and continues walking towards the door.
      MasteredRed -
"Alright. Tell me a little bit about yourself while we're walking."
He begins to walk and turns his head towards him, listening to what he might have to say.
      Dominar Diablo -
      Chuckles a little
"I'm afraid I know as much as you do. As I said earlier, I don't remember anything about who I am. The only reason I know my name is because it was stored in the AI's files. What I do know is, I'm a rather calm person. Apparently, so the AI says at least, my vitals didn't even spike when I first woke."
They had reached the door now, and had turned left, heading down the long hallway.
      MasteredRed -
"I see. Due to some differences in myself, I have most of the important memories I need. I worked in a factory that produced Kyrium, I had a brother, and many good friends. Really, there's quite a lot that I remember, just not details that I would need for a large advantage over others."
      Dominar Diablo -
"Fair enough. One of the major events I remember is when the first Arkship that launched...crashed...Actually, that's the only major event I do remember. Everything else is just simple things, like meeting the AI for the first time, and heading to my cryotube."
A bright light suddenly appeared as they turned a corner. Ahead was a door with a sign above it reading "Arkship Pub". The door was open slightly. There was still some ground to make before they reached the door.
      MasteredRed -
"The First Arklight.... I think that's what people in my area called it at least."
He looks up at the sign as well, giving off the impression of relief.
"That wasn't a good day for some of us. Quite a few lives were lost in that incident, and I know that it's changed how things would have happened by quite a bit."
      Dominar Diablo -
He nods again. His own expression would be slightly relieved. Less because they would finally be able to meet this member of the DUA, and more because his legs were very tired after so long without use
"We have arrived. The AI tells me that your member is inside."
I hope I don't regret helping him. If he's anything like they say he was back on Earth, then I should be happy we met. Even so...12 thousand years in space can change a man.
      MasteredRed -
"I think he's probably a person known as Apex. I've talked with him before we launched I believe."
If it isn't, it's probably someone who applied in the general application. I know it's probably him though. He tried to reserve a seat for himself early on.
Both him and Dominar walk through the door
From there, a vast view of people flooding the pub is present. Many just awoken and confused. Others wanting to meet and greet as many possible. All these ambiguous faces present, filled with so many different expressions. Fear, Excitement, Sadness, Joy. None the same as the other. All wondering what to do next.
      GrandMasterApex -
Noticing Master Red walk in he turns to him and gestures to him and his accomplice to join him at the table.
I recognize this face from the holotape as being Master Red, however I have not seen his accomplice before.
"You must be MasterRed, Please, join me"
He turns to face this person accompanying the MasterRed.
"And I do not believe I have had the pleasure. You might be?"
      MasteredRed -
"Ah yes. This is Dominar. He helped me find my way to the pub."
      Dominar Diablo -
Courtly nods to the man sitting down, but Dominar remains silent doing so.
      GrandMasterApex -
"I see, Well I am GrandMasterApex. Although as to what I was a GrandMaster of is still a mystery to me"
"It is clear from listening to the rabble in this pub that many of us are suffering from sustained cryogenic exposure. It seems to be effecting some more than others, however one thing that is constant is that without the help of the AI, none of us can preform basic tasks."
      Dominar Diablo -
I glanced around at the faces. Some of them were watching us, others were burred in their hands. Even more had tears in their eyes
"So it would seem. Not all of us have access to the AI, apparently."
      GrandMasterApex -
    "Some have encountered problems yes"
      MasteredRed -
"I didn't receive an AI as well, but I had prepared my mind for this trip prior. Strengthening the memories and information I needed. Not everyone did that though, so that's what's happening."
MasteredRed glances around at everyone as well
"Not that I have a problem not having an AI. I prefer it due to the... things that I would likely encounter."
      Dominar Diablo -
"So, shall we continue the search for your members, Red? Or perhaps we should eat some twelve thousand year old powdered food."
      MasteredRed -
"If I remember correctly, most should probably still be asleep. Right now, I think we should try and figure out what we should do.”
Someone bumps into Apex as he stands up.
Then it was known, things were probably going to be tough from here on out.
      Dominar Diablo -
Dominar would bear his cloak, which had been stuffed into a pouch at his belt. It was able to fit due to how thin the material was. He'd look up suddenly as whoever had bumped into Apex started looking at them.
      GrandMasterApex -
"Yes I do believe we have spent enough time on these formalities, their is much to do"
As the man who bumped into Apex has turned, the robotic dog Apex is accompanied by start to bark.
"Do watch where you are going sir!" Apex snapped.
Signaling to his pet to be silent, Apex takes in the face of the man.
"I do believe an apology is in order don't you, Or has twelve thousand years of chryo made you as rude as it has stupid?"
      Dominar Diablo -
      Dominar frowns slightly.
"Apex, I think you are overreacting a little. 12 thousand years of cryosleep would make people clumsy to say the least. Perhaps assuming he did it on purpose is a rash move, isn't it?"
He glanced towards the man who had bumped into Apex, examining him.
      GrandMasterApex -
"Perhaps... I ache from my slumber and my patience is short, I do apologize for my manner. But I would advise you to be careful as some may be a lot more volatile."
Apex joins the group to leave the Arkship pub
I shall remember this moment, he may be more dangerous than he initially looks.
"you are right Dominar, shall we move to a place a little... less crowded"
      Dominar Diablo -
      He nods, satisfied.
"Alright. There's an empty table further inside, or perhaps you'd like to leave the Pub all together. MasteredRed?"
As Dominar began looking around, more people were watching them now. The man who had initially bumped into Apex had long since disappeared.
      MasteredRed -
      "Yes. I think it'd be a good idea t-"
Jerked backwards by a force, MasteredRed falls back and turns around, looking at the face of the man who bumped into them initially, and his friend.
The man grunts as he throws a punch towards MasteredRed.
      Dominar Diablo -
Dominar turns sharply as Red seems to fly backwards. Seeing the two men as he falls to the floor, he rips the cloak off of himself and throws it at the two men, attempting to distract them for a fraction of a second.
As he does so, he fiddles with something on his left arm for a split second, then raises his left arm to reveal a Nanofromer. His left palm promptly lights up as a piece of metal the size of a fist shoots out towards the one throwing the punch, aimed at his head. The attack was not lethal, however. With the first man on the ground, Dominar aimed his Nanoformer at the second man.
"Make a move...I dare you." Dominar said, his voice was low but steady.
      MasteredRed -
      "Alright then.”
MasteredRed then quickly moves to the right of the man. The shock from Dominar's attack keeps the assailant’s friend from turning to face him.
      "Not a smart idea."
His fist raises towards the second mans face, revealing the punch to come. Without warning, the second man is hit to the head, and knocked down to the ground.
      GrandMasterApex -
About to signal his robotic pet to attack the men, he noticed Dominar spring into action and instead assessed his combat ability, after all, those who could defend themselves were going to be needed in these coming times of uncertainty.
"Well I can't help but feel responsible for this... little misunderstanding... and as such I shall try to rectify this little problem."
From a secret compartment he reveals a DAC and places it in the hands of the robotic bar tenders arms
" to the man who can... resolve our little problem."
      "...perhaps we should leave now."
      MasteredRed -
"Yes. There's no one here from the DUA at the moment anyways. It'll be a little while before anyone wakes up."
He turns around and begins to move towards the exit
      Dominar Diablo -
Dominar turns his head and watches the second man, eyes narrowed in like he's watching a target.
      GrandMasterApex -
A crowd of people, now desperate to get their hands on the DAC circled, the two men as the group walked out of the Arkship pub. Events that would no doubt one day come back to haunt them.
"Well I do believe that escalated rather quickly, good work in their Domino I must say. It seems even after the chryo you seem to be able to defend yourself rather well."
Apex places his glance on MasteredRed.
"and of course, it seems you have not lost your touch with the fist either Master Red."
      MasteredRed -
"Thanks. Also... Domino... I'm pretty sure you just called him Domino... I think they’ll stick"
      GrandMasterApex -
"Well I am a little shaken from the experience but Domino does seem rather fitting... watching how they fell as such."
      Apex laughs with his joke.
      Dominar Diablo -
Dominar lowers his left arm and retrieves the cloak from the ground. Doming it quickly, he follows the two outside.
      "Wait, Domino? Lovely"
He pauses. Catching sight of someone in the crowd, he frowns.
      "Ah...Good..."
      rmhenn –
Three small throwing knives impale the wall just above the two mens’ heads. The point of origin is easily traceable to a man standing in the doorway, cloaked in a beige military trenchcoat, pointing his right arm at the attacker.
“Very entertaining, but I think there has been enough of a show for today.”
The mysterious man walks over to the bar and takes a seat, ordering nothing more than a water.
      MasteredRed –
      "So then"
The pub was left in confusion as to most of what just happened. One thing was for sure though. They had just attracted attention for themselves.
      Dominar Diablo -
"Lanez. Why must there always be knives involved when you make an entrance?"
      rmhenn -
      "Because, knives are fun."
Lanez takes a sip of his water.
      MasteredRed -
"You say that, but I'm pretty sure those men have a different idea in mind."
      Dominar Diablo -
"Where did you even get the knives? Did you plunder the kitchen? Or did you just have them in your locker."
      rmhenn – 09/14/2016
"With much talent, and a Nanoformer, and some spoons."
      Dominar Diablo -
      Dominar Sighs
"Why did I even ask. Lanez, we're leaving. Feel free to grab your water and join us."
      rmhenn -
rmhenn grabs his water and follows Dominar out of the pub.
      MasteredRed -
"So, Lanez, Apex. Please do tell me what you guys have planned here, if anything."
      GrandMasterApex -
The GrandMasterApex takes back the DAC from the bar tender.
"it seems the problem has resolved itself."

But, what is religion, you fanatics?
Your excuse to lie, kill, rape and destroy?
You are but fools that learned to play with tricks.
Your religion is naught but a failed ploy.
Religions are nothing but tools for fear,
Means for harmony and forced self-restraint.
Abandon the burden that it makes you bear!

    Chronicles of the Arelians 54:4-7.

“That’s what he wanted you for?” Kurotou mused, as the AI-controlled Nightelf’s seat secured him.

    Kael looked visibly confused.

“I thought it’d be something serious…but every one of his questions centred around games!”

“Satoru’s never serious. Don’t let it bother you—except when he’s holding a gun.”

Kael nodded grimly and let the co-pilot’s seat secure him as well.
The Command from the Air Control Centre came over the radio:

    “V-4, 90˚ lift.”

With a tap, the vehicle rose into the sky, turning towards the Novark and racing off.

“People died the last time Oethe went there. Why in the world is he sending us back there?”

    Kurotou shrugged.

“The kid’s crazy, but I’d rather die facing the enemy than facing Satoru’s antics. He put poison in my water and claimed he was probing if I was worth the job! The farther away from him, the better.”

Kael shuddered and looked back at the ten Oethe soldiers clad in the black and heavy combat uniform Oethe reserved for special operations.

“This time, we’re prepared, don’t you think?”

    Kurotou smiled.

    “Black’s the new red.”

He looked to the left and gave the accompanying Nightelf a thumbs up.

The Nightelves had been refitted for optimal sensory performance and ungodly maximum damage. If anything so much as showed up as hostile, it would be smoking powder in a matter of seconds.
A small hologram of Satoru appeared on the control panel.

“Hello! Hi, Kael! First, of all, good luck: you’ll need it!”

Kael gave him a restrained wave.

    “Satoru, what’s up?”

He smiled mischievously. Well it was meant to be a smile, but it made Kurotou’s hair stand on end.

    Crap.

“I’m declaring myself the Eon of the Aether.”

Were it not for the fact that rolling the eyes was something exclusively reserved for women, Kurotou would have.

    “Congratulations. What is the Aether?”

He smiled again, making Kurotou’s hair stand for the second time.

“Not what. “Who” is the question you should be asking.”

Kurotou gritted his teeth, even as the boy waited for him to ask the question the right way. Kael saved him the embarrassment.

    “Who is the Aether, Satoru?”

“A-ha! I knew you were wondering, but I’m getting tired of talking, so I’ll skip that part and move on to the next thing I want to tell you.”

Kael smacked his fore-head with his palm.

“I reviewed the potential economy of the Aether with Shiro and Kuro. Guess what?”

“You--” Kurotou started before Satoru cut him off.

“I’m short on time. We stand to gain a lot from industry and research, given the potential market within Theia and the massive one surrounding the Ark ship.”

Kael didn’t say a word, so Kurotou kept quiet and let Satoru continue.

“However, research shows that people are more likely to work efficiently under certain guidance…Religious guidance to instil fear and discipline within the concerned populace.”

    Kael laughed out loud.

“So you’re founding an economical religion and proclaiming yourself Lord and Saviour?!”

Then, he paused and looked at the hologram grimly.

    “You’re crazy.”

Satoru’s happy face darkened fifty shades.
    Kael shut up immediately.

“I’m crazy, you piece of trash? Keep talking, someday you’ll say something intelligent.”

A soldier wolf-whistled from the back.

Kael made the wise choice and kept quiet.

“Say something, Kael.” Satoru urged, seething with anger that seemed to come from nowhere.

I’ve got to stop this kid from turning everyone against him…

“Satoru, a thought crossed my mind--”

“So, a thought crossed your mind? Must have been a long and lonely journey.”

    F**k you!

“Watch your mouth, Satoru or I’ll put this mission in reverse.”

    He snickered.

“Oh, please. You are proof that evolution can go in reverse.”

All of a sudden, he started laughing playfully.

Kurotou slammed the hologram and it shut down.
Once it vanished, he breathed a hot sigh of relief and irritation.

“Son of a b****!” He cursed and wiped his face.

Kael looked at him, fury in his eyes.

“Why do we obey what he says?”

    Kurotou glanced at him.

“Gee…I don’t know. Perhaps, because I like walking around without a bullet in my skull?”

Kael shrugged, obviously seeing the sense in that.

    “Who are Shiro and Kuro?”

It was Kurotou’s turn to shrug.

“Some people he always keeps ranting about. I’ve never met them.”

Tense silence ensued for a few minutes, neither side wanting to discuss the insults received while the soldiers in the back preferred to silently let both of them burn in the humiliation. To ease the tension, a soldier started playing punk rock.
Kurotou couldn’t tell he was mocking them or trying to help.

“Where are we headed exactly?” One of the soldiers asked and put the heavy rifle to rest beside him.

    “To your deaths.”

Kurotou’s head snapped back. At the same time, his hands came off the control panel and raised the pistol to his chest.
    Kael gritted his teeth.

“Dammit, Mistral! What are you doing here?!”

She cat-walked to the cockpit, slapping a leering soldier across the face. Io flanked her, knocking the same soldier with the butt of his rifle.

“What else? I had to know what Satoru’s up to. Now I know: toying with your lives.”

Kurotou kept one hand on the fire arm.
I don’t like Satoru, but she is on another level entirely…

“Welcome to the joy-ride, darling. Did you see the “abandon all hope, ye who enter” tag I sprayed on the Nightelf?” Kurotou asked, putting the firearm in its place.
    He heard her sigh.

“Look. I value my friends more than some mentally challenged kid.”

“I know two mentally challenged kids, darling and you’re one of them.”

Kael scratched the back of his neck.

“We’re barely one month on Alioth and political campaigns have started with the teens. This is bad.” He noted.

    Mistral got passionate.

    “This isn’t politics! I’m trying to make…”

Kurotou subtly made sure that everyone except for Mistral and Io were strapped in. Then he rolled the aircraft.
After hitting their heads against several hard things, there was some silence.

“Oh, I’m sorry, darling! Were you saying something?”

He heard Io’s rifle power up. Eight more emitted the same sound. Without a doubt, the real soldiers were challenging him to turn up the aggro.

“Listen Io, I don’t care if we’re the same age or younger. What I do care about is that you have a nineteen-year-old girl leading you around like a mistress. Whatever happened to your soldier’s honour?”

“It went with Eidolon and died with Satoru.”

    “Sheesh.”

Kael busied himself with something that could have waited till later.

I need some back up here, Kael!

    Mistral started talking…again.

“What did he send you to do?”

“Fasten your harness. Then we can talk.”

    Both complied and he continued.

“Intelligence spotted some monoliths in a swamp not far from here. They--”

    “Intelligence? Whose Intelligence?” Io asked.

    Kael looked back.

    “Mistral’s, of course.”

Kurotou could tell that the girl shook her head.

“I didn’t send any Intelligence to any swamps.”

“No soldiers have gone scouting either for two days.” A soldier named Skellarts added.

How did that Satoru know that there were monoliths in a swamp anyway?

“Am I the only one who gets the feeling that we’re being played here?” Mistral asked.

    Kurotou nodded.

“Yes, you are. Whether or not Intelligence came here is irrelevant. What matters is that we find out what these monoliths are and— “

A hostile light lit up on the control panel.

    “I’ve got a bogie!”

However, before either aircraft could engage the opponent, the hostile vehicle inexplicably blew up.
    He cursed.
Once again, Mistral had something to say.

“Great! Now an offensive aircraft blew up. You know what that means?”

Kurotou was getting pretty irritated at her constant bickering, so he chose not to answer. Unfortunately, Skellarts didn’t catch the hint.

    “You tell me.”

“We’ve let everyone know we are in the area. I think Satoru set us up. I mean: The Lhaeryon is here,”

    Kurotou shrugged.

“The Birzai is here as well.”

    Kael sarcastically clapped for her.

    “Wait a minute…so am I.”

    Kael stopped clapping.

Then it dawned on Kurotou, even as several enemy crafts came into view.

    “The bastard set us up…”

The Aether as a Cult? Well, you certainly couldn't have known. If you did, I would have to break the news to you: we are not a cult and we have no plans to evolve into one.

We are a Family and Team with a moderate amount of role play to strengthen inclusiveness and keep our affairs and life in Dual Universe interesting and somewhat unpredictable. The Kalnian Books are fictional as far as real life is concerned, but in the Aether and Backstories, they exist--not as a laws to live by, but as spice and guides that add to our lives.

ShinyMagnemite reacted to Deadfire in Organization & Corporation Branding/art (Idea Mega Thread)
I want to make this a mega thread of branding for the organizations in the game to get ideas for
their branding. Please do not copy anyone's art fully without the creators permission. I want to make this thread a safe place for people to share there branding with others.

(I am very new to the futuristic style of art but I will try my best to post logos and other branding ideas here)

Style: futuristic flat , Abused flat
    - When I think of futuristic I think of flat clean looking art but there are also the places where this style doesn't extend to such as pirates , and aged industry branding

    How to chose your style:
You will need to do research on what style you like so that you know before you start you won't have to scrap everything because it wasn't a style that fits you, it's all about the artist. If you feel like you like multiple styles try to combine them and/or make sample branding in both styles. I can't tell you how many times I have scraped entire UI folders because in the end the style didn't satisfy me. It all depends on how your eyes react to the colors , shapes , and story. Best places to look at styles in Google or art station.

    How to chose your colors:
Another important factor in branding in your color. When you chose your colors try to go for colors that do nothing your eyes for most people it is bright white, yellow, and orange try to stay stay from these colors. When using white add some shade of any other color (gray and red) are best. So chose colors comfortable to look at (try not to use the colors that hurt eyes).

    How to chose your shapes:
When you chose your style and color you need to chose/make shapes to combine together to make your branding. There are two types of shapes curved and sharp edged. Use which ever satisfies you. Another factor in shapes in shapes is font. Try to use clean (non cartoon) fonts for your branding as it has a more professional

As myself, I will be working on perfecting my skills in making futuristic sharp flat branding/art style. Here is my first attempt at this style and I will be updating this post adding new branding in this style for people to gain inspiration to make their art as best as it can be. As an uninspired artist makes for the worst art.

Please tell me what you think and share your branding you made in this thread to give others inspiration If you want me to I will continue to post my advancements in mastering this style. If you would like me to try and make branding for you private message me and I will see what I can make.

Or, the more sane thing to do, have a franchise open in a space port, on people who have your organisation wide blueprint and make the construct on site. The construct that's sold belongs to the Org you are part of, hence the org makes profit, hence you get a salary.

    Easy.

3 Acts of the Lambent Chapter 14: 22-23. The Kalnian Books.

    Mercifully, it did.
Once I got back to Olympus Ariana—I hate that name…I wished my sleep had lasted longer.
I am not and never will be a religious person, but I do recall something about the Devil never sleeping. Looking at what Eidolon and Mistral had achieved in eighteen hours, I just might qualify for the post of a demon hunter.
It was nothing short of a hostile takeover and Devil Eidolon was pushing the limits of “takeover”.
Of course, the title of an exorcist would be the next thing I would aim for. Metal shouldn’t have a soul anyway.
I was summoned to an emergency meeting that Shiro had to drag me to. Who summoned me? Eidolon the Devil and Mistral its right hand demon.

    “But, I don’t want to go…” I whined.

“If you don’t go, she’ll take your place. You want that?” She whispered quietly as a few people passed us on the stairs.

“I couldn’t care less.” I muttered under my breath.

She stopped climbing the stairs and looked down at me. There is no living thing that can survive a thirty-second stare battle with Shiro and hold its will.

    “Fine. I’ll go.”

Shiro moved aside and let me pass.

“Don’t do anything stupid in there.” She cautioned me with a smile.

“I’ll be a good boy.” I retorted with just enough sarcasm in my voice to make her roll her eyes.

Four guards stood at the door, looking like wilted cactuses. Nonchalantly, I passed by them and opened the doors by myself. The revolting sight of thirty-eight people around a black marble conference table with Eidolon at the head made me gag.

Dear heavens. The devil has returned…

“Welcome, Satoru. We didn’t think you’d come.” Mistral said with a smile that would have made Dracula’s blood freeze.

“...and he’s brought demons with him this time.” I announced.

“What are you talking about?” Hartmut asked, trying to read my mind.

I acknowledged his curiosity by returning his gaze and his interest vanished as he looked at the table like it was a work of art.

    At least he isn’t possessed.

Mistral pointed at the seat opposite Eidolon.

    “Care to sit?”

“Nope.” I said and stood at the door.

A man with an egg for a head, yawned and asked:

    “Why?”

I grinned at his reflective scalp.

“I’m glad you care so much about my comfort. Tell me, do you rub oil on that, or is it naturally that shiny?”

From somewhere in the room, I heard Kurotou’s stifled chuckle.

    “Egghead’s” face turned red.

    “How dare you?!”

    I hushed him.

“Eggs don’t talk much. They break easily under pressure.”

He jumped to his feet with considerable effort.

    “You son of—“

    Eidolon broke in.

    “That’s enough, both of you.”

Egghead needs to cool down though. I don’t like boiled eggs…

I took a glass of water and splashed it on his face. For a second, he was confused.
    Then, he went insane.

    “You bloody rat!”

Sigh. He’s overheating now. With that amount of oil on his head, I wouldn’t mind scrambled eggs….

I walked over to the empty seat and closed my eyes, while the Devil tried to calm down Egghead.
After five minutes of ranting and other members of the meeting throwing in their digressive personal opinions, the room became quiet again.
Eidolon made the kind of sound humans do when they clear their throats. Only then did I open my eyes.

“Now that that’s out of the way,”

I glanced at the sizzling Egghead.

“Mistral and I had this meeting called for an important reason. Satoru is unfit to be the Grand Architect and the recent events have proven that. We did him the courtesy of inviting him to the board meeting where the next Grand Architect will be chosen.”

Nods and sounds of approval rose. I couldn’t help but smile. Shiro was right, after all.

“Who is your candidate?” Kurotou asked.

    Mistral rose her hand.
My smile widened on its own accord.

    Do smiles have souls?

“What is funny?” A familiar voice asked from my left.

Funny enough, Petrol-ski was part of the board meeting.

“How can a smile have a soul? My smile keeps getting stronger with a will of its own.” I replied and leaned back.

    Eidolon wasn’t so sure.

    “Any objections?”

I shook my head and whispers arose in the room. Kurotou had a confused look on his face.

“None at all?” Eidolon asked, sensing some danger.

I’ve got to give it to the AI. It really is perceptive. Kilo was shaking his head at me, warning me not to do anything I would regret.

I don’t usually regret watching episodes of failed exorcisms.

“User: Loki Torvald. Override firewall through port 5537. Eidolon, initiate and hold shut down. Block loop, count down thirty seconds, proceed. You know my voice.”

They all looked confused, but I could feel Eidolon’s dark soul trembling.

    “What? How did you…?”

“You didn’t think that I would let you run free without a back-up plan in case you did something stupid?”

Its voice sounded angry, but I could detect a small hint of terror.

“You can’t do this! I’m Eidolon AI. I am your advisor and the most important person here!”

    “Were.” I corrected, grinning.

“You were the most important thing here. Until you cost me some sleep, yesterday. Ten seconds, AI. Want to do a quick virus scan?”

It growled and I leaned towards the man on my left, acting as if I was going to whisper something into his ear. Eidolon flew at my head, just as the man moved towards mine.
I will never forget the sound of metal hitting a human skull. The poor man fainted immediately and Eidolon looked perplexed for a moment, before the countdown expired and it shut down, dropping to the floor with a heavy thud.
I used my foot to push the dead metal away and turned towards the silent people.

    Exorcism, successful.

“I just killed the Devil. Any objections?”

Some mouths were wide open; others were sealed shut. Some eyes were frozen, looking at Eidolon; others were full of fear, staring at me. I looked at Mistral and froze for a second.
    She was unfazed.

The student becomes the master. The demon becomes the Devil.

I gave her the best smile I could manage and turned to Petrol-ski.

    “Why are you here?”

His confident composure had taken a serious blow. That much was obvious as he mouthed some inaudible words.
    I sighed.

They are dumbstruck at the powerful dispossession; it would seem…

    “I can’t hear you…” I said in a sweet tone.

    He shuddered.

“We…need to rally…our members. Allies…need to be forged.”

    I frowned.

“What allies? You want to throw me out as well?”

“No! I had no part in this!”

“That’s what they all say. You are not a member of Oethe Inc., nor a person from Terra Ulterior. Eidolon was the reason you are in this room, as such you are its friend. That makes you my enemy.”

The blood drained from his face, as I stretched out my hand towards Kilo and he handed me a polished pistol.

“I came here, because I care for my people!”

    I grinned.

“I’m sure you do.” And I pointed the gun at his chest.

The man in him returned and he glared at me.

    “You can’t shoot me.”

Kilo held his head in his hands and Hartmut closed his eyes.
    I fired, twice.
His face froze and he looked like he died, before he realised that he was unharmed.

“Say that again, and I will shoot you for real the next time. Now, I will send you with an ambassador. Politics is boring talk and we need to get your embattled people and the Earldom of Mercia clear on our conditions—whatever they are, anyway. Arkanos?”

The young man on the far right answered.

    “Yes?”

“You are the Menon for now.”

    Mistral spoke at last.

    “What is that?”

“He’s in charge of politics. Did you not read the Kalnian Books?”

Her smile faded as she realised where this was heading.

“Thinking is burdensome, my dear. I prefer to live in the moment.”

After thirty minutes of boring, unnecessary conversations, I screamed at them to shut their mouths up and leave.
I hated talking with any person other than myself, Shiro, Kuro and Kilo (in that order), with the exception of a few old people. To be honest, I hated talking at all, and this board meeting had me completely pissed off.
They left like a stampede, save for the unconscious man lying on the floor.

    “Kael.”

I called and he froze at the door.

“I need to talk with you about our research and development division. But first, Kurotou,”

He looked in from outside as I signalled Kael to follow us.

“Let’s walk. I need you to do me a favour…”

A wonderful day to everyone. I'll send Discord invites to those who are interested.

To prevent over crowding the Discord channel with unnecessary talk and people, the Aether will place a limit of two members per organisation that expresses interest.

There are no prerequisites and every organisation is free to join. We'll be needing heroes, villains, neutral parties and unpredictable characters.

The first round of invites will be going out this week, but the first of the Dual Universe Series will not be published for another three or so weeks. The time in between is long, yes, but it's hard to coordinate people with varying ideas and intents. The interval exists to help us iron out certain issues that may arise.

That said, thank you all for your unanimous support, we really appreciate it and will work eagerly to repay your encouragement.

Well I believe somewhere Aetherios mentions how Dual Universe is something of an outlet for testing out how this creation will work.  I feel the devs are looking for this kind of creativity to fill there game with.  Using EVE as a parallel, there's so much player driven lore now that it's nearly impossible to image that game solely based on what the devs created.  Besides, all this writing doesn't really affect you so why bash on it?

Reading this stuff and trying to imagine the setup of Alioth the way Aetherios is envisioning it, is not only a great way to pass the time but it's akin to reading a good book that I hope will never stop.
