Lord_Void reacted to Lethys in Wipes?
This is no early access, this is an alpha. So yeah, as other said: there will be wipes as stated by NQ. In alpha more often but definitely between versions (alpha-beta-release).

This early version is for testing the game and helping the devs to improve it. If you're just here to play this game for yourself or want to ripe the rewards of putting thousands of hours into this game - then you're 2 years too early.
If you want to help this game thrive and get positive attention then feel free to help - but as this is a real alpha, expect changes toin core mechanics at all times and lots of bugs. Plus they might not 've able to transfer blueprints to the next version

Hello! Good to see more eve players joining in

You can always play solo, but it will be a more difficult experience than playing with a group. There are no invulnerable stations in this game with infinite storage capacity like in eve, so storage is more of an issue. This makes it hard to trade in market manipulating quatities by yourself.

On death, you lose some of the items in your characters inventory and some stay with you. I'm not sure whether lost items become lootable or if they just disappear. Many mechanics are still under development so that may change.

There are already lots of us eve players here, so you're good.

There's no pve (No mobs, missions, npcs).

It'll be hard to play solo because you can't do everything alone, but it should still be possible. Just be smart about the mechanics and you're good

Hey there fellow wanders of the universe!

I am a long time EvE player along with a host of survival games. This project on the surface could be looking like my new addiction... So I have a couple of questions & comments before taking the plunge to pledge. and please forgive me if they have been asked and answered.

Eve Online is known for its incredibly steep learning curve (which frankly kept me interested in the game for years so it's not a bad thing), and is infamously known by some as a 'Spreadsheet Simulator'.
Frankly there is no right or wrong way to play Eve Online. What Eve Online lacks is the ability to build something unique like a ship or space station that doesn't look like every other space ship or station in the universe.

What I am hoping that there is nothing to stop a player from jumping in solo, mining for minerals, running missions (player or AI made), manufacturing, holding cargo or resources and manipulating the market. Where things really become interesting is having conflicts with players over territory, over resources and even over identity or philosophy. That is what I am hoping for Dual Universe.

Do you think DU is being developed in these directions? If so I may have a new place to call home and wreak havoc.

One last set of questions: What is the death penalty? Do you loose everything when you die? Is there perma-death? Do you create a lootable corpse when you die? Can I take a trophy from your corpse?

If you are looking for me; find the most wretched hive of scum and villainy in the universe and i'll be drinking at the bar. Come and say hello and maybe we can do some business...

I'm planning on taking time off when the game actually launches, but not for the alpha. I'll certainly be playing as much as possible but I personally won't be clearing my whole schedule for something that isn't always on.

    3. One way Qu could be destroyed is by a player quitting the game with Qu in there wallet.

I've visited the GC booth and had the chance to talk to the staff in person. It's an awesome team and otherwise than some other game developers (i won't mention any names, so please don't interpret something in that phrase) they work with passion instead just for money. I can safely say that they are not going to rush anything and will listen to the community in any case.

From early on I had the feeling DU is very much like a cross between EVE and Space Engineers. EVE is great for it's persistent single shard universe with deep and complex mechanics, economics and politics but IMO lacks the first person immersion Space Engineers offers by being able to actually walk around a planet or be in space and build your own environment/ships/tech.

From what I have heard so far it seems DU is pretty much going to be able to merge the two concepts into one universe and add a touch of KSP op top which will open up so many fantastic options and possibilities. It will be a while (I very much do not expect DU to be ready by the end of next year), I believe the vision and 'roadmap' will allow for fairly steady progress with a clear point where the game is good to go 'public' which is something some other projects seem to lack (Yes SC, I am talking about you here).

What NQ is working towards is very complex and hard to do well but I think they have the right attitude to pull it off.

I'm sorry, but I do not understand the majority of what you are proposing. It seems over complicated and unnecessary. Like Lethys said, there are already simple and effective methods to handle market transactions in place. Why fix it if it's not broken?

Still don't get it, you don't need this system if you
    1) have the normal market for all trading actions regarding bulk material
    And
    2) an auction house/contract system where you trade every other product.

You have to make sure anyway that this trade is safe (No ambush), that you trade the correct amount for the correct value and that it's not a scam.

    Edit:
Why do you think this is better? Or why do you think NQs system is worse?

    @CyberCrunch
yeah you could do a lot of stuff with it - all I'm saying is that NQ only wants ONE currency ingame (quanta) so they won't implement anything that would benefit your cause in creating a currency yourself. So the ONLY way you could do it, is via some virtual stuff you keep track of yourself. Doable, but a lot of work.
    And still, I don't think it's a good idea

I agree total and lets not forget the real world system !@#$ = you may not be to happy if your currency doesn't match up with the big organizations! The currency ratio will be all over the place like in the real world now. Lets have fun and just keep its simple and if you prefer to use something different you could use the old darter type system over currency.

There will be enough currency fluctuations going on with one currency, let alone an infinite number of them.

I don't mind the size; I feel that it is important to not have people getting bored with mining, especially considering the massive amount of mining that will need to be done for things. I do wish that there as a bit more control over it. I feel like with that tool they just sort of carved out a random blob of space. I would want to be able to create a fairly coherent shape when mining.

yeah I know about the stargates and systems and such, and 2 weeks actually seems short for a blind first jump. It's the time between planets that has me surprised

I had the pleasure to talk to JC for about one hour at gamescom. Here are some hopefully new informations I can remember:
JC dont know when the Alpha is ready but it is going to happen in 2018 The Market-Feature is going to be implemented in the first update for the alpha (some weeks after the alpha launch) They havent done much yet to prevent hackers To prevent glitching when standing on moving objects (like space engineers or GTA) they give every construct their own relative coordinate system, called Local-Frame, which the player is bounded to. To detect which Frame is the right one (e.g. jumping from a ship to a planet) they send a ray downwards and the ray detects the Frame underneath the player. Right now only the skybox is rotating, but planet rotation is planned for the future On Tuesday, August 22, Novaquark has implemented a sitting function for the couch (not a joke!) They are hiring several new people starting in september, including a webdeveloper, who is going to work for the first 4 month on the community portal full-time JC itself has written the LUA-Scripting, flight-mechanics, logical-gates and the HTML/SVG Screenunit The Community Managers are really happy seeing such a growing community and that much interest in the game Most of the people at novaquark are playing the game mosty at work, not very often at home You can freely reskin the entire UI of the game, the whole UI is made up of HTML and CSS, NQ wont prevent making changes to the ui Right now, you can embed any HTML-content, except for Javascripts, in the Screen-Unit, e.g. embedding a Youtube-Video works right now, they arent sure, if they continue to allow that The client and the server are written in C++. The client needs C++ for the performance, the server is also written in C++ due to the high amount of the same code with the client. They wished, they could make it in a safer language like Java, but htey simply doesnt have the time to write a lot of code twice. Traveling to other planets takes in average 2 days, to other solar systems 2 weeks When the player has a limited internet-connection, they lower the refresh-rate of constructs and players When the player has a slow computer, they are limiting the viewing distance and also lowering the refresh-rate of constructs and players The goal is to reach 30fps on every mid-sized pc Thats all for now, sorry for my bad english and some typing errors
