I agree. Conflict is what makes the game fun and interesting. What makes it work for escapism is that the conflict is not "real", in the sense that you don't die in real life if you die in the game. Since your real life is isolated from the consequences, you can relax and enjoy the challenge.

As I said, I think this person got what was coming to them, and I have no issue with this decision. I'm not sure exactly what he thought he would get out of posting about it on the forums. My point was that, due to a number of other unrelated events and decisions, the Discord server in question does have problems with regards to neutrality, fairness, and abuse by admins. So I think a proper decision was made here, but they are no saints.

IMHO this move seems to indicate they are getting a bit desperate. It doesn't really bode well when a game is throwing more and more effort into being a Free To Play game ...

Wow this is one toxic topic. Sounds like there was a definite reason you were banned. Crying about it here isn't going to help you That said, there are certainly reasons why a fair number of community members have left that Discord ...

Thanks for the kind words @Msoul Like Anasasi said: ATV may be the most visible group (in some ways) but we didn't make this game happen. Every person who believed and backed the game contributed to it getting this far, and will help it progress into the future all the way to release. We will do out best to test the game and help it progress. One small test for a game, one giant leap for gaming.

I think it's going to be a little more like this: Pre-alpha -> Does it turn on? Do the server technology and voxel engine work? Alpha -> Do the gameplay mechanics work? Are they fun? What is broken about them? (Iterating on more features as the Alphas go on) Beta -> We have it all pretty much how we want it. All the gameplay mechanics are implemented and functional. What remaining bugs do we have? So I don't think we will be actually playing the game in anything resembling a final form until beta in mid to late 2018. Just my view though

I'd say the best thing you can do right now is join a bunch of organization discords and start getting to know people. That social currency will be the best resource you have once the game starts. That and read around on the forums. There are lots of hidden gems of threads out there that you may find interesting

It hasn't been confirmed whether the supporter packs will allow access to alpha. They certainly won't allow access to the pre-alpha. ATV consists of only 100 members and is already full, so unless NQ decides to expand it or removes some of the existing members this isn't really a viable path to hope for.

I can relate to basically all of this. I went through the same thought processes, bought the same pledge for the same reason and had the same idea about gold accounts! Glad to see I'm not the only one
