  1. I also love the idea of having damage control groups on ships. It sounds like a great way to get people who aren't interested in shooting involved in the action
  2. Exploration will definitely be lucrative. Even opening up one new system will bring millions of km^2 of new terrain, and later in the game when people have the resources to keep opening new stargates there could be dozens of new systems reached per month.
  3. If people don't like the look of things then they should go clean it up. I doubt there'll be much mining around the arkship due to resources being further away. Like was said, new players will be a huge resources so there will be a huge incentive for groups to maintain a nice presence around the arkships and ship people out to more interesting area. Plus NQ could add a sort of NPE in a "simulation" before they leave the ship.
  4. I agree. Their job is to make it fun to play nor dictate aesthetics to us
  5. I agree. This has been brought up several times in the past but there really hasn't been any real ideas to solve it. I think really the only thing to do is wait and see how it is. I'm sure if things get bad people will fix it and if not then that's the sandbox for you. As far as player agreements go, the reason people laugh when people suggest those is because barely any players will agree and there is no way to enforce those agreements.
  6. I like this idea. While I do not speak any German myself, and so would probably not be involved directly, I think having places where people can go to find others that they can relate to is a great idea. Not to mention that having strong German language support helps open the game up to more people and helps it grow
  7. Very nice concept. We will need all the ship builders we can get! Good luck
  8. Good luck with your org! Love the idea of a Dune based group
  9. Yes, sitting around waiting to press a button all day would be very boring, but I doubt there will be many or any instances like that. You are assuming that everyone is assigned a position and must stay there all the time. Not so. If the ship is not under attack you could be manning the sensor arrays or working on something in the hangar. If you are in warp you don't need people manning the guns but you do need people making sure the reactor doesn't overheat. In this way people will not be stuck waiting around for their position to be needed; rather, they will be rotating around to where the "action" is. Secondly, you are assuming that all the activities are going to simple. "Press R to repair ship". Nope. If you are trying to repair the ship you need to find what's broken (either with some sort of diagnostic or by manually checking), then once you find what's broken you need to fix it. Maybe you need to replace it with a spare part. It becomes a sort of minigame rather than a single button press.
  10. I'm not sure that you will be able to build machines like that in the game. They are just too complicated to try and replicate exactly. From what we have heard, it sounds like there will be some elements that can be added to a ship to give it some moving parts, but nothing as radical as that.
  11. Keep in mind that is all pre-alpha footage. Things may not look like they will in the final game, or dirt mining may not have been fully added yet.
  12. Which is sad. I wish more people added support for Linux
  13. I agree. That would be an amazing feature
  14. I'm pretty sure that if you mine dirt you will get dirt. Most materials will be buried under the surface so you will have to do a bit of digging to get to it which will give you some excess dirt/basic materials.
  15. That's good. I wouldn't count too much on automation because NQ has mentioned that they want to make sure that automation does not go overboard. So if you plan on having automated systems be aware that they may not perform nearly as well as a human crew member could.
  16. Everything is PvP, but it doesn't all involve violence. Merchants compete to sell their goods, designers compete to build the best designs, miners to get the best ore, and everyone competes to make money. Yamamushi gave an excellent answer IMHO. I would add to that, that it may be "safer" to join a larger group rather than try and stay in the safezone. In the territory of a large org, surrounded by allies you are much less likely to have problems than even in a safe zone which can be accessed by anyone. It also gives you better access to cheaper resources and a ready demand for new ships.
  17. Sadly, I don't the full compliment of game features will be available in alpha to accomplish this, but definitely some things can be tested!
  18. I agree. I especially like the idea of some hostile fauna. Not a lot, but enough that you have to be on your toes sometimes.
  19. In that case you should be fine for connecting them, but I meant look at internal hardware. If you are going to be running the game across the three monitors, that is a lot more pixels to push and requires beefier specs on your laptop. Plenty of laptops could do that fine, but plenty would also struggle with it
  20. Slots for first name, middle name, and last name. Only the first name has to be filled
