    ABOUT THE INTERGALACTIC TRADE FEDERATION
     
     
     The Intergalactic Trade Federation (ITF) was founded by KittyKhatt and MinerMax555 (no longer with us), with the idea of creating a safe and peaceful trade federation for any org that wants to be a part of it. We provide our member orgs with trading posts/stations, Stargates, safezones, and possibly other things that will be decided after Alpha/Beta releases. ITF also offers protection/defense services, if you opt to pay the defense taxes (which will be tailored to your org depending on many factors).
     
    KHATT'S GOAL
     
    My goal for ITF in Dual Universe is to be a safe and peaceful place for anyone interested in trade to go to, without having to worry about wars or defense. I wont be happy until i can create such a place in DU, and so I created ITF just for that purpose. We plan on offering many services in ITF, and they are all designed to make everything safer and easier to trade between member orgs.
     
     
    OUR FOREIGN POLICY
     
    We will accept any org in ITF, except a few, like TVR, we even accept and encourage military-based orgs to join. The benefits of joining as a military org are free and open trading to get your supplies, along with all of the benefits of a normal trade-based org, such as access to trade posts, stargates, safezones, ect... But you are required to help with the defense and protection of other member orgs.
     
     
     
     
    HIRING EMPLOYEES/MEMBERS
     
    ITf is hiring! we need independent members to do stuff like deliveries, organisational work, management, and help in protection/defense. (An independent members means a member that works only for ITF directly, and not through a member org.) 
     
    The requirements are the same as the ones listed below, as well as the reasons for joining. The only difference is we expect all independent members to be active regularly and work hard on whatever we need done, because we are in charge of protecting our members as best as we possibly can.
     
     
    REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE AS AN ORG/COMPANY
     
    - You must comply with all ITF rules and are expected to report to ITF officials when needed, if needed.
     
    - You must not dehumanize or humiliate any other ITF member, no matter what happens. 
     
    - You must treat everyone else equally and with respect, regardless of member status.
    - Please listen to ITF officials and adhere to our advice. We do everything we do to protect our member orgs and reduce their risk and danger as much as possible.
     
    - Lastly, if you wish to join the ITF please join our discord, and send KittyKhatt an application for your org to join.
     
    *** (its not a requirement, but asking your own org's members to also join ITF's community page will greatly help us broaden your trade opportunities by allowing ITF to expand on the community site.) ***
     
    REASONS FOR JOINING ITF
     
    - All member orgs will be offered protection/defense services and item delivery services.
     
    - You and your org will be granted access to all of ITF's trade posts, stargates, safezones, outposts, ect... 
     
    - By joining, you will greatly broaden your trading possibilities, from selling common wares, to buying that rare part you need.
     
    - You will join a semi-democratic federation, we vote on everything we see fit, from an outpost's name, to important financial deals and even taxes.

    NQ is already doing the physics collisions for constructs. They have a video of a spaceship landing on a space station from 2016.
     
    Adding in a flat damage calculation wouldn't require any more physics calculations to be done, because it's already happening. So the load of adding collision damage would be pretty negligible.
     
    Personally I don't care one way or the other if they decide to add damage to collisions or not, but it wouldn't create a performance issue for the server.

    Seeing the potential of lua scripting and constructions, I keep thinking of what it would be like to create an entertainment zone that people can pay an admission fee to attend. It started with the idea of creating an escape room, or even a killing game.

    Do you think something like this would be feasible? What would you put in a Dual Universe amusement park?

    I like the idea of automatic fuel reloading, it could be a useful thing in case of emergency etc.

    I think they intend for all code to exist in constructs, which would mean you won't be able to use dofile()
     
    But I'm pretty sure they intend to allow scripts to communicate between constructs that are linked together. If that's the case, having a "library" construct that contains functions that you want other constructs linked to the "library" construct to run, would be possible.

    That would certainly make large ships interesting/realistic. You would actually have multiple other "computers" hooked up to the main control computer of the ship in order to access supplementary or even third-party code.

    And such timers do make sense @NanoDot 
     
    Attacking a tcu should always be possible - if they go with an adjacent tile you must own so be it - then people have a bit of a head start thaton smth could happen.
     
    Build a protection bubble to protect the tcu and all the constructs inside. First attack on that shield (with a certain dmg) triggers a timer. Wait for that timer (I actually liked the old pos mechanic with strontium here - made better gameplay then stupid plain timers) then kill shield. Defenders have time to prepare, attackers may not be able to blob it (dmg threshold of the shield) and everything's fine.
     
    If you want to avoid that timer, then infiltrate the base. Make black ops actually a thing and useful. Let them find the tcu/protection bubble generator and manipulate it (every 2,4,6,8 or 10 hours - numbers, idc) at least 2-3 times to shut it down. 
    That way a police force and military actually is useful in that waiting period and has to search for intruders with possibly fake name tags, fake ids or whatever. Make it an interesting and exhilarating cat an mouse game.
     
    I agree that you have to have certain timers, but I'm just against introducing more and more of them. See eves citadels - that's the worst and most boring mechanic they could've possibly thought of. Discouraging players via timers to not attack a tile is just a bad mechanic. 
    The attacker should be discouraged because it's hard to do, involves logistics and commitment and not because he dies of boredom

    Without some regulatory system like "re-inforced states" on shield-bubbles (a.k.a. timers), we can look forward to raids and surprise attacks whenever most of your org is logged off.
     
    So, if you want to be a viable org in DU, make sure your org is large enough to include a significant number of members from all the world's RL timezones. If not, don't be salty if your base is attacked at 4:00am by an org on the other side of the world whose RL primetime happens to occur at that point. You may even face "alarm clock raids" from motivated groups in your own time zone.
     
    Timers and "windows of vulnerability" came into being in online games for a reason. They weren't arbitrarily invented to make combat more tedious.

    Hi guys,
    I heard NQ will think about an element which allow your ship to be "docked" to a station, like some kind of plug in/out system.
    But wouldn't it be cool to have a a ship attached to another ? Like if you have a big one you may want to attach few smaller ship to it or any DCU construction. If you can even make the LUA script interract with different DCU it would be a whole new world of possibilities... Like automatic fuel reload or reconstructible ship, would be a great thing for the market as well as you may upgrade just one part of you ship very easily (let's say new thrusters) as long as they are provided by the same company or so ...

    Tortuga City is a building project of immense proportions looking for builders and residents to join in this great undertaking. Tortuga aim’s to be a community created, neutral player hub for all players in Dual Universe. As Alpha/Beta are now underway, Tortuga’s evolution as a community and city will progress up through launch. We will be testing, making blueprints, and finding out what we really need to keep a city going strong.
     
    At it’s heart, Tortuga is a city project for Dual Universe. Organization affiliations and agendas will play no part in the politics or development of this community hub.

    WHY FOR YOU DU DIS??? 
     
    Plenty of organizations have cities planned. Some of these are quite ambitious in scale and already quite advanced in planning. So why are we doing this?
     
    Well, it turns out that a bunch of us from different organizations have a real world background; or work in; urban design, town planning, architecture, construction and geospatial (mapping) systems. 
     
    And through the course of talking "shop", we realised that real towns and cities grow organically (while guided with zoning), and the idea of a single organization enforcing a certain architectural style or design thinking approach was a bit odd.
     
    We wanted to make a place which, while based on some well thought out design rules and urban zoning, would have a feel of a free city, sprung up around trade, rather than a designed urban space (using a grid for instance) one sees with administrative cities such as Brasilia, Brasil, or Canberra, Australia. 
     
    LOCATION?
     
    In the best interest of developing a city long term, we want to place Tortuga in a safe zone. However, based on how little we know, we are not going to decide the location yet. We could build within the safe zone on the first starting planet, we could build on a floating asteroid in space, settle another planet in the starting solar system, or wait until build it in a completely different system.
     
    This is what we plan to find during Alpha/Beta of Dual Universe. Finding out the best possible location that meets Tortuga’s needs.
     
    HOW DO WE GET THERE?
     
    For now, we have broken the development of Tortuga down into three basic phases. These stages of development will follow Dual Universe from the beginning of the Pre Alpha up until the final release.
     
    Phase One: Theory discussion and brainstorming of possible starting points for building. Understanding how the build system works etc.
     
    Phase Two: Deals with the actual planning and implementation of theories from Phase One. We will be piecing together Tortuga bit by bit as we finalize it’s layout. This will be a continuous process through Alpha/Beta until release.
     
    Phase Three: Begins on the day Dual Universe officially launches. This is when we will be putting the city together in a live setting.
     
    HOW TO GET INVOLVED?
     
    Join our Discord! We have created a server for all interested in parties for Tortuga. This will also act as the main communication application for Tortuga even after release. Simply join the server, and state that you would like to get involved in the development of the project. If you just want to live in Tortuga, then that’s fine too, join anyway.

    Hi Everyone,
     
    If you did gather all the info on this game you may have notice 3 things:
    - JC said (approximately) : "would be cool to have a lua script which make your ship doing an automatic front to back (180° turn) with one button so you can face a foe behind you"
    - The game will be first person view.
    - As everyone know, pvp will be lock then fight depending of characteristic of your ship, I guess he has EvE gameplay in mind.
    Problem:
    This 3 "things" belong to very different game design choices, because the first one is "arcade" or "simulation" gameplay, where you need to react fast to face your taget (and aim?) in order to shoot at it correctly. The second, FPS mode, is also arcade gameplay where you have the limitation of the view angle and camera, increasing the difficulty of finding your target compared to a third person.
    Last is tactical gameplay, where you certainly have to react fast as well, but more important, have to do choices giving a certain situation, you analyze and react, prepare the situation before it comes (design your fit). It is all but arcade mechanics, compare EvE online against Elite Dangerous and you'll get what I have in mind.
    Well, it is emergent gameplay ! Why not mix ? Well ... because you are manoeuvring your ship in an arcade way, you expect to eventually dodge, do nice things moves and enjoy a dogfight ... while the damage you do and you suffer are actually not dependent of this here... In a more technical way, the game is using position prediction to simulate smooth movement while the position information of player are updated not frequently enough to simulate a dogfight. You may say, it is not the goal of the game, indeed, so why would we even need "arcade" mechanics ? Just put a ship list on the right of your cockpit UI and click on "target" then "orbit at 10km" if you know what I mean.
    I could also add to this the concept of big ship with plenty of automatic weapons < big ship with plenty of manual weapons controlled by several players, (why would I ever want to sit on cockpit and click on "target" then "fire", then "target, then "fire", etc).
     
    I am not shooting at the game right now, I just want to expose my concern about the risk of such a gameplay, it could be very frustrating to have smooth and cool control of your ship but with no relevant impact in a fight. Overall, the mix is dangerous and could lead to unhappy or unpleasant gameplay feeling. And yes I know that there is technical reason underneath, but here we may need an emergent technology to solve this... (Lock then P2P to avoid Server overload, would be like P2P on the fly with your target ? I'm not really a specialist in that specific domain you probably thought of this already)
     
    That's an open topic, please throw your thoughts.

    You won't and shouldn't be able to build stargates on your own - those are for huge orgs who are dedicated enough to go through the process of building and defending it
