"How the heck can you ever control an entire planet", you ask? With tons and tons of work and teamwork. Which is how it should be. One man cannot control a whole planet; 10, or 100 people cannot control a whole planet. You would need a huge group and team effort to do so, which I personally feel is exactly how it should be, and I'm sure many others would agree.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second point. You only need one territory unit to control that section of territory, so with tons of planets it gives the opportunity potentially for that lone wolf to own and control their own little section of the universe. After all, the objective of the game isn't to control land, this isn't the middle ages.

ATMLVE I just love your comment about middle ages, and it is just that.

I don't see benefit on owning a planet by little groups when they are not even be capable to defend it (by its size mainly). Because if you say the benefit is to have right over the terrain exploitation it have no sense when the group interested in said exploitation can just remove you from the planet.

I hope it will works like @Hades said.

    What Novarkian said above me.

A person has only to BUY their ship once. If they lose their ship during a Strategic Operation, you get another one, paid by the coaltion or alliance (depending on what Strat Ops it happened in).

But you have to abide by doctrine of the fleet.

If I say "bring me one ship from THIS list" and you bring a ship that's not on that list, you WON'T get reimbursed if the ship is destroyed.

However, some alliacnes only flew expensive ships, and they drained their coffers faster.

It's sorta like joing the army in many alliances. They take care of your PvP needs, you only have to be in-time for the oepratio w-hcih is usually an easy thing to do in a single-shard server. I have like 3 Fleets I can join every day and that's not including the ones that are with sihps I can't afford nor care to buy into.

Think of it like joining an army in DU and the recruiter telling you "no worry son, here's your armor, heres' your gun and ammo. If you lose them in service, we'll get you a new one. If you want to upgrade your armor, you'll have to buy a new one and register it for SRP (Suit Replacement Program?). "

There are some other perks, but those are technical, all it boils down to is "some alliances fail, due to lack of proper management".

The GSF wanted to set up a Viceroy system. They got the entire EVE server setting differences aside just to destory the GSF.

Everyone, the bankers, the trolls, the scammers, the traders, everyone who could bring a gun, brought a gun - even the low-sec edgelords. Everyone came together to beat the Goons to death. Some of them, have fled to this very community - You know who you are  - others have fled to Star Citizen.

Bigger alliances have failed due to bad economics, others like BoB, died off due to trusting the keys to the kingdom to a person they repeatedly belittled - that betrayed BoB to the Goons.

Lack of SRP (Ship Reimbursement Program) also forces people on YOUR side, to think twice before following you into battle.

The Honeybadger Coalition's downfall came from bad handling of economics.

So, to answer your question, circumstances. But terrible management also pushes an alliance to its downfall.

NQ has mentioned that currently high-end systems should be able to handle it, which would be closer to mid-range systems at the time of release.

You could also try the Unigine benchmarks to see how your system can handle the engine: https://unigine.com/en/products/benchmarks

Yeah, if your content is good people will subscribe. As such, I'd advise working to increase your quality. I didn't hear you speak once in your "commentary" and the game was incredibly laggy. Most of the other videos are recorded from a phone. To create videos that people will want to watch, you should be recording off of at least a decent PC (or mac, if it is decent) that can run the games at medium specs with 30fps. You also need to insert yourself into the game for people to want to watch it. People do not watch let's plays to just see the gameplay, they watch for the personality of the person(s) playing. There is also nothing related to DU, so I don't think anyone here will be particularly interested.

I do not say these things to be mean, but to provide feedback.

Well they could've sent the entire population to earth again. An alternative universe where the neutron star never hit earth. But that would take enormous amounts of energy, even if they'd have a dyson sphere it would've been not enough.

Lore wise you could argue just with "every alternative universe, whenever a player dies, is one where earth was destroyed". Works as good as your theory.

But at the end of the day it's a game and the lore can only explain so much. It only needs to put the game in a context, nothing more.

Discussions about it are all fun and nice, but it's not that crucial to the game

ATMLVE reacted to Ben Fargo in Jetpack alternatives and "safe-designing"
This is a quote from the wiki about jetpacks and building.

"Within a building zone, a special jetpack mode can be entered whereby the player has very precise control of their position. Their motion is exact (no drifting), and they can reach all parts of the construct."

A player has to place a core to use the building mode for a jetpack and they will be limited by the size of construct that could be built for that core.  I think that would generally make it impractical to use the building mode for anything but building.

An important thing to consider is that DU or any game can not make a player better at building than they actually are.  There are many other things were the player's character could do things the player would not be able to do, so limits need to be put in the game.  For example, a character could mine a whole planet at once or travel anywhere in the galaxy in an instant, but allowing that would make the game pointless.  Building does not need the same kind of artificial limits.

Building depends on how creative the player is, so I do not think there is any reason to make it more difficult.  To me, the satisfaction from building is seeing how well I can create something that is hopefully both beautiful and functional.  Making the process of building more tedious does not add to that satisfaction.

ATMLVE got a reaction from Vyz Ejstu in NPC characters
The main focus of the game is player interactions. NovaQuark is building this game with tons of awesome features that favor a system run and controlled by players. As such, NPCs (at least things besides creatures or nimals) will be very limited. There won't be stereotypical "quest givers" or anything like that, the whole point of the game is to be different than all others and to be a true sandbox, and it is being built as such.

The NPCs that will be in the game will be limited most likely entirely to entities dedicated to regulating the economy. After all, with the way the game is set up, it will emulate real world economies; so you cannot keep adding money to the system. It's delocated, and must be controlled. You don't want too much money floating around, but you don't want too little money either, so it must be regulated.

The way things look as of now (though of course stuff like this is always unpredictable), NPCs will be be limited to market bots, perhaps giving money in exchange for materials or something, and will then eventually fade out of existence as the player-to-player economy gets going.

Also, if you would like to read what the devs have said about this, give the internet a search; particularly the wiki, as it has all of the devs comments archived.

I think the difference here would be that you could save patterns for later, and also be able to easily indent them into the geometry of ships. What if you wanted to indent the logo of your org into your ship, or indent a pattern into the walls? Copy and paste wouldn't be as good for that.

I doubt truly fine patterns could exist, because loading extra geometry? Nah, mate.
But basic shapes would be good, I suppose. I see no reason not to add it.

I think it could be useful. Would be neat for things like complicated insignias or something. Obviously though since this is the internet, people would naturally create some... Rather interesting patterns.

So maybe there could be a way you could make a pattern from voxels, but out of the tools already available, doing what you can already do. And then turn that into a pattern and apply it in a copy/paste-ish fashion over a given surface. Of course that still couldn't stop people from making vulgar patterns, but I don't think it would be as bad as being able to do something like draw lines and indent them.

I think it would be cool to have a tool which allows you to Extrude/indent a pattern into the surface of the voxels.

They could use a height map to customize the pattern

The lighter it is the more it extrudes.
Most of you probably know how height map works so I wont explain it further.
Here is a wiki page on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heightmap if you are confused.

This could be used to make cool patterns on floors or walls or any flat surface.
Patterns like this. Probably not that detailed but you get the idea.

Sure! Your money not your life, right?

Great idea I'd say; can be used in multiple situations. You could use this on a large scale to mess up a ship pilot and its crew, to ensure that you can take its cargo without the risk of harming it. Also can be used for professional arena battles, as you say. Kind of like dueling in borderlands.

Another reason why one might want to go this route rather than just opening fire is that it could be hard to figure out who is actually using this entropy weapon. When there are bullets flying at you, it's not often difficult to figure out who and where the shooter is. But if your joints suddenly seize up, then it's harder to tell who's attacking you.

Pretty self explanatory. Instead of having death be finite, let avatars who got hurt by certain type of weaponry be icnapacited and possible to be revived and / or reviving after a certain point on their own via "futurespace medicine" CPR.

    It should be noted :

1 ) this is to enable duels or arena matches that don't end with a person dying and losing all their stuff. A simple RDSM tag for the arena to enable "incapacitations"  but not "killing", would do the trick in this case.

2 ) non-lethal weaponry, for people who like to rob people , but don't like causing a person to lose their gear or what not.

3 ) poeple say I can't go without a post without mentioning something from EVE that's cool - and I will oblige - so here it is, Nosferatu weaponry, AKA, drain a person's energy. And since DU avatars are more or less cyborgs  - yeah, that nnonformer arm is definitely not part of Human Standard Edition - an avatar could have capacitors on them you can drain so you can render them incapacitated -  which would need a "healer" to come in and "jump cable you" - you know, the same thing EMTs do with a defibrilator, only not as harrowing of an experience.

4 ) if an avatar dies in a ship explosion or by being hit by a 1 TNT Ton rocket, you can bet they won't leave a mollecule behind, let alone a body to revive. No, that's not Shepard past the Mass Effect 2 opening, WAKE UP SHEEPLE :V

FAQs incoming - I can see the future.

Just want to have alternatives to murder. Like a bounty hunter bringing a person in as "alive" - with the bounty unable to "/scuicide if they decide to come in alive and be "judged" by the Intergalactic Turbonerd Tribunal. And if a person can make for a good "arena bloodsport" and the hunted has implants they risk losign upon death, you can bet some of them would choose fighting for their freedom than actually losing their gear in a 1vs10 fight.

Yes, Chronicles of Elyria. I don't hold EVE on a pedestal, I actually like other games as well.

Maybe the ability for Player Police to incapacitate someone who's intentionally blocking the entrace to a place - if the game has avtar to avatar collision and it's not ghosting / cheating the terrain and / or players involved.

I don't joke about my functioning alcoholism.

Apparently, people don't know the opposite of energy, is entropy.

Cause obviously, using a magical arm that can conjure shapes is definitely something in the feasible spectrum of possibilities, but using entropy to drain a person's capacitors they have in their body cause they are cyborgs? Nah.

    Cheers.

P.S. : Bring in the love.
