You are assuming that people in BOO will be solo-players who don't work together - and that is complete BS. People arrange themselves, they will build small cells of society of their own.

This is a question that, in my opinion, has not been properly addressed by NQ. They have stated there will be market bots which will help seed the markets and introduce currency into the game at the beginning, but they have said those will go away over time. As to long term plans for currency management, I do not think it has been properly addressed at all. I am hoping they will stick to the tried and true method of sinks and faucets, even if it affects the "lore" of the game a bit.

Lethys reacted to Lord_Void in consequences of non-regenerating planets and ressources
You are right, although I think there are a few key differences between the game and the real world. In the real world, we are constrained to a single planet and as such the maximum distance that resources must be moved is limited. In DU, the potential distance is unbounded, and will continue to expand indefinitely. We don't yet know much about the exact nature of hauling stuff, but it will cost something, even if it's just time. So at some point, the price will become too great to justify living in depleted regions. Also, in the real world, there is a conservation of material while in the game there will be a gradual loss of material which will simply vanish into thin air by being destroyed. These things mean that eventually all resources will have to be imported from farther and farther away, with ever rising prices.

You are right that the central areas will remain important areas for a long time, but what about 5 years after launch? Or 10? Even if those areas are still hubs at that point, prices will be very high. With no resources in close proximity, new players will have no way to earn the money to buy the goods they need unless they join an organization or are dependent of charity. Neither of those options are reliable enough to stake the new player experience on. That's why I think that there should be some form of basic safety net, at least in the long run, that allows for new players to have a chance to get on their feet. Perhaps not the asteroids I had suggested, but something else. Maybe there will be other arks on the periphery that people can spawn at in later years? I'm not sure.

Anyways, like you said, the core will be a perfectly viable place for at least a few years.

Names above Avatars' heads = Not good.

I hope that was a demonstration to showcase they were different people and not bots, but in the case of them removing above-avatarss-names, they use that Element tab system they use when they aim at a cockpit, or an engine, where a tab pops up.

Crowded cities would become insufferable if people have to deal with 10,000 peoples' names when trying to find one person in the crowd.. Just saying.

Lethys reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in My Community Has Withdrawn Our Pledges
    Hi everyone,

As the topic is derivating seriously in the last pages, it's going to be closed.
To all those who are wondering if the current level of funding already include the pledge withdrawal, the answer is yes: The pledge amount is updated in real time. If someone unpledge, it's immediately reflected to the amount pledged on the Kickstarter page.

    @ChipPatton:

To sum up your point of view:
    1) Our communication is canned because we didn't reply directly to your community's experience.
    2) You didn't try to discuss with us because the previous reply was canned in your opinion.
    3) You said the PLEX is inefficient against goldfarming.
    4) You assume that I'm convinced DAC is the perfect too and that, apparently, only my opinion counts in the Novaquark Team.
    5) You consider that globally we are non-caring.

So to address this (very) subjective declaration:

    1) We read your community experience and we understand that your experience with PLEX hasn't been fun. However, just looking by the prism of one experience, and refusing to look at the bigger picture is something we can't do as game developers: The problem you encountered is something that you would have encountered sooner or later even without the PLEX existence. Why? If unfair players want to harass a specific group and they have money for it, yes, the official staff can close as many accounts as possible if those use gold farming sites to get a lot of in-game money, but the unfair players will come back again and again, as money is not a problem for them. This is a neverending story. As an EVE veteran player, you probably won't refute the fact that you can harass anyone with fresh new toons, only a few hours old, in Tech1 ships in EVE Online. Again, even without the PLEX/DAC system, the problem remains as a whole, only less visible. So what you consider as a "canned reply" is just a different opinion from yours.

    2) Avoiding to start a discussion just because we have a different opinion from yours, and that there are chances it wouldn't go your way... It has indeed no chance to convince the Novaquark Team. Self fulfilling Prophecy here. But you have no right to complain if you didn't even try.

    3) Three big developers/publishers seem to disagree: CCP, Blizzard and NCSoft (Carabine studios).
Beside that, as gamers, we didn't experience the consistent huge amount of PLEX/gold selling you're mentionning in EVE (Yes, we have EVE players in the team). Do you have something to back your declaration about PLEX system being inefficient beside your own words? If it's the case, we are interested in this data.

    4) The Community Manager status seems to have been misunderstood here: having a personal opinion and making the communication (both ways) between players and the Novaquark team are two different things. Whether or not I'm convinced of something is irrelevant in this case: If players have concerns about one aspect, I transmit the message to the team. If the team has an official stance on a topic, I transmit it to the players (the reason why you received twice globally the same answer). Now, while the team won't change a feature as important as the DAC system on a whim, if some solid concerns followed by facts are given in a well-argued discussion, everything is possible (except coming on what has been already promised to other players such as Kickstarter DACs). However, loud voices and threats of unpledging without solid reasons will not affect game design decisions.

    5) Just because we have a different opinion doesn't mean we are non-caring. We care about every opinion. However, we are also realistic about the fact that we cannot satisfy everyone. Nobody can.

If you have something else to discuss with us that are not:
    - Your (unfortunate) experience on EvE Online.
    - Assumptions of the real intents of the Novaquark Team (like implying the DAC system has been chosen by greediness, when the game is free, the expansions will be free and there will be a free trial period when starting the game... not really a good way to start a reasonable discussion with a developer).

Then by all means, send me a private message on this forum and I will transmit the message to the team for discussion.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

I play EVE and I love EVE, but I don't want this to be an EVE clone.

That being said, EVE is also fairly similar to what this game looks to be (single shard, revolving around spaceships, sandbox game, player driven economy) so a lot of people use EVE as a reference point for how systems should/would work. EVE has also solved a lot of issues/ideas already, so there isn't a huge need to reinvent the wheel for some areas. In addition, many systems are being taken directly from EVE (skill system, market system, combat system, account structure).

I did say the skill loss system should be tied to how far the RN is from your location of death.

You die far far away? You'll lose skill points probably. Like, in the middle of deep space.

Space-truckers will probably sell on THAT for their prices on hauling.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. I don't know how old kid means (I'm going to guess around 14) but this is not a game for kids. I started playing EVE (whose community is very similar to DU) at 18 and people made fun of me for being a kid, and with good reason. Kids are immature. Games like this are not for kids. Period. I wish parents would realize that and not just expect the gaming community to be a bunch of babysitters. Had a 14 year old in an EVE corp once. He broke the rules and was a dick normal 14 year old, so we kicked him. The kid gets his Mom on mumble .... she starts lecturing about how she paid for the game so we had to be nice or she'd call our moms or whatever. Who cares. Long story short, our CEO ripped her a new poop shoot and we all died laughing and did age checks from then on.

    Sorry, back to the topic.

Like people have said, f2p makes for terrible games. The problem is that 99% of the people who say "Let's make it free but have micro transactions to pay for it" don't actually want to pay the micro transactions themselves, just like the OP here. So either the developers get no money and the game crashes and burns or they make the micro transaction relevant to gameplay and the game becomes horrible. Like Twerk said, games are a privilege not a right, and if you can't afford them you can't play them.  The monthly sub is the best/only way this game is going to work.

EDIT 1: The DAC system does allow for people to play free, so if you are willing to put in the work, there is that for you.

EDIT 2: I know the topic has been beaten to death ... I just wanted to share my kid story ><

I think in the first few months it'll be something like this:

    Hauler:
    - cargo is heavy
    - needs thrusters to even achieve a reasonable velocity
    - outrun / hide
    - fast, small and light cargo or slow, heavy lots of cargo

    Pirate:
    - small, fast
    - big, slow, but manned with death squad

when CvC is introduced, some mechanics would be nice...like (if i may take eve example here) scram and warp core stabilizers.

The biggest thing for me has been hearing them say "no". That's a hard thing for a game company to say nowadays and I believe it shows a lot of transparency and integrity. Will this game be everything they promised? Probably not initially. But they have shown they are willing to work with the community to make it as good as it can be.

Well I can assure you that the devs do their best job.

Who knows if all what the devs say and talk about the game will make it to realease? Perhaps all? maybe 50%? This project is ambitious as hell, so why trust them?

When you read interviews, watch them, follow their releases/videos/twitter/posts they make, you quickly realize one thing:

    THEY LISTEN !

They read the forums, get PMs and they actually hear us, the gamers. They do their best to clarify worries (see threads), let us play the game in pre-alpha (see meet-up at NQ), they answer our questions on various occasions (AMA, interviews, player run events,...).
We even had a major discussion with the devs because of some spicy topic, they actually started it to hear what WE have to say.

They always clarify that some aspects of the game will not make it to realease, but they will come at a later stage with an update. They are honest in terms of ideas for the game which players ask (will there be weather - no because.... read the AMA). In contrast to other games (yeah, we all know which oneI mean), NQ always honestly tells us, what to expect from the game, which ideas will be followed as stretch goals and (most importantly) what DU is definitly NOT (which ideas/mechanics are NOT in the game, what you CAN'T do).

    So in my opinion:
When NQ is honest with us what to expect from the game, then they can pull it off. I know many devs who don't really listen and who just do their thing. NQ isn't like that.
