    LoL point taken.

Either way would mean that it failed, and in the end would we know the why's without inside information? Hell, I myself would like to see DU succeed as well. But have to cut myself off there because my faith that it will is pretty low atm.

But hey, the forums here are still active enough it will take time to know if DU actually failed or not. (No, that's not my ONLY gauge) I think one way, but have been wrong before.

    Here's to tomorrow! ?

The core problem with NQ, they have no understanding of basic communication. Mind you, they have the people to do it and certainly the current CM here are trying but if the company as a whole and I fear the (upper) management group actively frustrates this then what can they do?

They show all the signs of a company in chaos, lack of direction and leadership. They will probably just stick their head in the sand again and hope they come back to work Monday with the  forums cooled down and business as usual. They tried this several times in the past 2-3 months and you can only try this so many times.

These mistakes can all happen, I see no one blaming NQ for that. That they then are absolutely unable to properly manage the damage and fix it quick is a structural and chronic problem that is causing increasing damage to the game in many ways. The purpose of mistakes is that you learn form them and move on, not making them again.. NQ is in a loop of repeating the same kinds of mistakes over and over and seem to learn nothing.

I think the chances of them ever learning are pretty much nil. They have not shown any signals in the past few years they actually learn from mistakes they make even when they try and convince us they have and do but actions speak louder than words in this regard. They also continue to not be willing and/or able to take ownership of their actions and the consequences unlike how they address the same with regards to their player base.

Making mistakes is fine, not learning from them and remaining clueless about what to do is not.

The response is an insult to the player base, NQ appears to just prefer to throw out some nonsense, then go on weekend hoping it will all have blown over by Monday.. Next Tuesday is when the last of the bonus months expire on subs.. I am guessing that the player count will see a further sharp decline after that as many decide not to renew as they do not feel it's worth paying NQ for an alpha test when NQ care nothing about how they treat the game and the players.

As someone who is usually vocally and entirely anti-rollback and anti-wipe. I think this is a situation that would justify a roll-back. Yea it sucks hard but right now you lose around 24 hours. The longer they wait the worse it will be as well.

Sure the fact jonny whosit over there got 50 warp beacon blueprints wont hurt you now. But it wasnt just a few schems here and there. There are now people who spent as much as a billion on schems and have literally thousands of them on almost everything you can think of and can now dictate market prices to a point where they and others like them will be the ONLY ones who are able to compete in the market. That is unless you dont mind selling at what is esentially a loss on most products for a very long time.

This glitch has literally killed huge swaths of the market for most normal and all new players in terms of ability to compeat and literally invalidates .23. This means the only solutions are a rollback or to reduce schem prices down to glitch levels for an indeteminate amount of time unless you want a handful of super monopolies who price most players out of the market.

It does matter. If terminology didn't matter and "no one cared", why would marketers be so eager to brand things as beta vs. alpha...?

There's a reason the industry has abused these labels in marketing...they know that people will be more attracted to a beta product than an alpha. Not all consumers care about the labels, but enough do that it compels marketers.

To be fair...if the point is "it's 4 months into beta, relax, it's not close to being finished" -- that point goes double for DU actually being in alpha. It'll take patience to see how the game evolves.

Just remember that the game has been in dev for six years already. Not like these are early days and they have barely had a chance to dig in. Don't expect the pace of dev to rapidly accelerate as it nears release, and expect that "release" actually will mean "beta".

A beta would've had all mechanics implemented. This is a subbed alpha at best, not a beta. Despite what NQ or ppl say

I though "player run economy" means just don't touch it and let it figure it out by itself.

Even this seems too hard for NQ.

Obfuscating the ability to cancel a sub isn't a best practice anymore and is increasingly uncommon.

Most companies realize that hiding cancellation doesn't earn you more revenue -- it's counter-productive. If Netflix made me call in or hunt for a cancel link, the chance of my re-subscribing on a whim vanishes. It doesn't lower my desire to cancel, though.

At the point where the customer wants to cancel, the only concern should be how to get them to re-sub later...if you make cancellation difficult when they've already decided to stop paying, you've shot yourself in the foot.

Customers that cancel are also customers that once had interest enough to pay...it's good business practice to treat them as potential future customers rather than obfuscate cancellation for the sake of eeking out another month's sub due to annoyance.

Visa even has new rules governing subscriptions which would have already gone into effect already were it not for Covid delays. Among other things, it mandates an "easy" way to cancel subs and requires a reminder email 7 days before any trial subscription converts to a paid one.

I think younger people especially might not be familiar with the old school "hunt for the cancel link" style of subs...that doesn't make NQ "thieves", though. I don't think it is malice, just that they have other things to do and haven't thought about this UX (they definitely should, though).

If you really have trouble cancelling, email or call Xsolla customer service and threaten to contest or chargeback future charges if they do not cancel billing immediately.

On second thought, the core idea of slowing down unrestrained growth is good, but maybe maintenance has its own problems. If people don't play for a while, you end up with a lot of "decayed" areas or items which could have the side effect of creating slums.  Also, you want to welcome someone back who hasn't played in a while. Decay due to loss of maintenance has the opposite effect and could turn off returning players.

So, the resistance to unhealthy growth needs to happen at the time of construction. Perhaps the next voxel you place takes a fraction longer or takes slightly more materials based on how many are already there. Once it is built, then leave it alone with no maintenance.

It's still a bit weird that all the planets are devoid of fauna, moreso as I mentioned in my DU Video Review that you can hear birds singing but there are none to be found.

If NQ continues with the mentality that only players should create content Dual Universe will very soon become a dead and empty Universe.

Leading to PVE combat? Never happen in DU lol.

But seriously, they would need a much bigger dev team and a bigger budget to actually add significant content. That's the point of player driven emergent content - keeping the dev cost down.

So the problem isn't that players are trying to force the game into something else, and more that the DU roadmap is changing into something that looks less and less like what was promised.

So this new player with hardly any funds and a newb speeder only is going to.

    - buy goods from markets
    - transport said goods to markets on other planets, usually outside the safezone
    - Build a factory
    - buy a territory scanner

That is going to take forever without first having to do lots of mining to get the funds to scale up to something sensible and being able to afford crashes etc.

A lot of people talk about how DU is "dead" or "dying".

Unfortunately, I think that the few objective numbers we have tend to back up that claim.

I don't think there's been a singular "mass exodus" but a slow and steady churn:

I get that many people don't use social networking at all...but a growing game has a growing social presence...certainly not a shrinking one.

Also, NQ no longer has any job postings -- maybe they filled them all (in which case dev should be going faster lol) or maybe they realize their runway isn't going to last for as long as they first expected.

Maybe guns should be enabled for targets that have been sitting in an Aphelia owned hex for more than 24 hours.

You know you have nothing to say of substance when you resort to arbitrary judgement values like "carebear".

If you care so much about PvP, how about playing a PvP game?! DU isn't a PvP game. It's a building game with PvP slapped on top as a crude afterthought, with core pillars of the PvP gameplay unknown or undecided by NQ...and with no known ETA on changes.

Welcome to DU's Alpha. Be patient or just move on and play a game with actual PvP as a core feature. DU isn't that game.

Frankly I don't understand how they will ever create anything close to "civilization" if they attract that crowd of people that loves to throw around "carebear" like it's the ultimate pejorative. Bears are great. Just visit pride sometime.

Some people think combat is insanely boring (especially DU's version), others think coding in LUA all day is boring, others think mining and hauling is boring. If you can't get over the fact that different people like different things, why bother playing a multiplayer game at all...?

Anyway....I'm over people whining because PvP doesn't yet work. Nothing really works yet. Everyone is in the same boat.

It isn't because "carebears" want to avoid danger -- it's because NQ hasn't come close to finishing their game.

Get over it, be patient, or move on.

Magnetism is an aspect of the EM force which at extremely high energies,  i.e., very early in the universe, was unified with the strong force (that holds atomic nucleii together) and the weak force (which causes mass to exist among other things). Gravity is curvature of space-time. It may not be a force at all, but we really can't say at this point except that we no general relativity (the most successful theory in the history of science) doesn't quite tell the whole story. Gravity may also unify with the other three forces at high enough energy, but we don't have anything like a testable theory at those energies.

It's not magnetic. It might not even be a force.
