  1. Forget about how the progression is going to work. I didn't say anything about ships gaining "exp" through kills or any other activity. We don't need to argue about that. It is already decided. It's just derailing the discussion. Elements are going to vary in power already right? Different sized thrusters, fuel tanks ect. All i'm saying is that once they are created. The individual elements or even the entire construct could have a progression path. So there is an incentive to keep it in one piece. That progression could be based completely on upgrades that are tied to character progression. I'm assuming that a more skilled player will be able to create better or more powerful elements already in some way. I just like the idea of incentivising keeping your ship in one piece. It seems fun.
  2. I apologize if i'm interrupting. But i'm going to talk about the game for just a minute if that's ok. I think the OPs original suggestion had to do with constructs becoming more powerful the longer they are around. That seems like a cool idea to me. And i don't see any reason why it couldn't fit into the way NQ plans to do "progression" currently. What if the construct or even maybe individual elements progressed in the exact same way that players will? Would that be an acceptable topic of discussion to our supreme forum gatekeeper captaintwerkmotor? Could we have your permission to talk about that?
  3. All of my ships will fall under the "Honda Civic" class of star ships.
  4. Hey that's my build at 1:20! That video makes me happy, and sad, and angry all at the same time though. I really do miss that game. I don't miss the emotional roller coaster. But i miss just about everything else. Especially the music. I'm going to have to put on some Jeremy Soule in the background while i'm building in DU to get those old creative voxel juices flowing. It's going to be fun to have a social/creative game like Landmark to play again.
  5. Where is this building though? I can never seem to find it...
  6. They've definitely mentioned the possibility of some kind of virtual workshops within the game. Like a private instance that you can test constructs in. I wouldn't expect it to be a priority before launch. But it would be cool at some point if they get around to it. I don't really understand what people are worried about, as long as resources can't be transferred into the "real" game world. The creative process is challenging enough as it is. I don't think we need to worry about bottlenecking people's creativity.
  7. Check out this old post from NQ. https://board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/14-voxel-tools-pre-alpha-game-design/ And this post on the dev blog. https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2016/02/20/builder-gameplay-voxel-tools-elements/#more-531 That's most of what we know so far other then a few sneak peeks of tools in action in a few of the videos. Good to see more Landmark refugees turning up here.
  8. Lets get real people. But seriously there are basically two options the way i see it. 1. They make a quality game, and we pay what it takes to keep a quality game going. 2. They don't, and we don't. I'll take option number one every time. It baffles me how anyone was ever convinced that option two was a good idea...
  9. I think somewhere in the Lore stories they did, it talked a bit about harvesting resources and storing them using the Nanoformer and some kind of gravity inhibiting technology. So it sounds like we'll have some high tech refining capabilities built in right out of the Arcship. https://devblog.dualthegame.com/2015/07/31/dual-universe-part-1/#more-481
  10. Man this is just like the movie Footloose. And Yamamushi is kevin bacon.
  11. In Elite Dangerous when i'm carrying illegal cargo or avoiding scans on the way into a station i always sing that "Ridin' Dirty" song in my head. That is all.
  12. What was your opinion again? Maybe i missed where you added anything at all to the discussion. All you did was say no to someone else's idea. As if it's your place to play gatekeeper. And then insult someone by calling them Overbearing. Add something to the discussion. Or don't, i don't care. But the forums don't need you and twerk deciding what is and isn't a valid suggestion.
  13. Some people seem to think the forums are like a game of Whack-a-mole. Every post has to be smashed down immediately as a show of dominance. It is too bad every discussion has to be buried in four pages of argument. But i guess it takes some people twenty posts to properly express their disapproval of an idea.
  14. I think you are comparing expansions to updates. Wow has had six expansions. I bet it has had hundreds if not thousands of updates over the years. But i still have absolutely no idea what that has to do with Dual Universe. Instead of talking about other games, why not explain exactly what it is you would change about Dual's profit model. Or just accept that they have already decided and move on.
  15. So is the argument just about whether free2play is good or not at this point? I think it might help to stop thinking about it in terms of marketing speak like "free2play". What does that really mean anyway? There have been hundreds of different implementations, some have gone well and some have gone not so well. And a lot of them aren't even close to what i would consider free. What's the point in debating which meaningless marketing term is better? A lot of games that have used the term F2P actually require a subscription to really play the full game. NovaQuark could slap the F2P label on Dual Universe basically as is, and call the subscription a "premium membership". But instead they are being honest and direct about how they plan to make money off the game.
  16. What if thrusters created a damage cone that affected the ship itself. That way you could hide them but when you used them it would blow a hole in the ship? If they caused damage to other ships too it could create some interesting combat.
  17. It's hard to believe you managed to read and quote that one sentence without reading the two that came before it. So i'll assume you are just bored. And instead of wasting my time restating something that was already perfectly clear the first time, i'll just say this again.
  18. Hopefully once the game is playable even the goons will have plenty to do to keep them busy, so it won't be quite as bad. But i think the idea is that if you don't want to be bothered, there should be room in a Safe Zone somewhere for you to hang out and build and no one can bother you. Although you may have to leave that safety for resources. What i hope is that NQ tries their best to make it impossible for someone to bother someone else if they don't want to be bothered. That way NQ doesn't have to waist their time intervening in player disputes. As for offensive Graffiti as far as i know someone won't be able to place any blocks inside an area you control, unless you give them permission. They may be able to shoot holes in things if it's outside the Safe Zone, but they will have to actually take the territory if they want to place blocks. When it comes to people building things that are so offensive that they shouldn't even be able to fly them around or display them at all. I think NQ will have to make the call and step in if necessary. But hopefully that's the only area where they really have to play hall monitor.
  19. They turn the visible grid on and off in one of the building videos. So there will definitely be a voxel grid overlay that you can use to line things up and count distances. In Landmark you could also use the Selection Box tool as a measuring tape to measure distances. But some kind of tool that helped draw straight lines off the grid or measure distances off grid could be useful. One way i can think of i might use one would be making an equilateral triangle, to build a tripod or anything else in a perfect three point formation. You have to start with the first two corners lined up on the grid. And then break it into two right triangles, and use the pythagorean theorem to get the height, so you know where to put the third point. Not too hard, and it was interesting to realize that apparently i was paying attention in 7th grade math class. But it would be cool to be able to measure perfect triangles completely off the grid too. I guess what we might need is a multi purpose, laser level, and measuring device, and protractor. Not exactly a priority but it would be handy. The problem with using the Selection Tool to measure everything in Landmark was that you can only create one box at a time. This is probably a topic for another thread but being able to create more then one simultaneous selection box would be really useful.
  20. I really like the idea that if you were to steal or borrow someone else's ship you literally might not be able to fly it because of unfamiliar controls or systems. That's immersion.
