Definitely, Hovercraft Racing has a very good perspective to become a unique and thrilling part of DU's culture.
Simply keep the vision and be patient, oportunities to realise this idea will grow with the very comunity's growing and game's developing.

**Update : The IHRC is looking for representatives from organizations who would like to be a part of the racing. Individuals who want a say can also join. The representatives will have a say in what the rules and regulations are. Each rep. will be able to cast a vote on each individual rule and reg, once the ballots have been created. I would like to have at least 10 members before creating a ballot. We have 4 members right now.  Remember this organization is more of a hobby for you in the universe, you can still be part of your regular organization. So if you are a legate of a org and want to be a part of this please send a rep to us. I don't want to be a dictator who controls every part of this. **

**Also looking for players who will be in the alpha to help with testing, to see what is possible.**

About The Interstellar Hovercraft Racing Committee
This Organization consists of dedicated members. These members are tasked with creating the rules and regulations, for the hovercraft racing league. Voting by these members will determine the rules.

This is not the organization for the racers. Remember we are still creating the "game" we are not looking for the "players" right now.
We will advertise when we are ready for racer requests.

Hovercraft Racing will be a series of races governed by a set of rules. Open to anyone able to meet the standards.
Proposed Rules for the races are as follows and open to discussion
--Size of craft to be limited. Limited by a minimum and maximum size.  This may include a voxel count and  a physical size.
--Qualifying Rounds leading to a final ( depending on track size and racer participation)
    --No weapons allowed
    --No outside help
-- 1 person in control of 1 craft.
--Tracks will be large , with obstacles in the way, with natural segments(if flat enough).
--Referees will be tasked with player management.
--Going out of bounds will result in immediate disqualification. (this will be changed, as opposition is growing against this suggestion)
--Like the Olympics, the event to take place in multiple locations. Locations approved by the Committee.
--If possible the entire track will be constructed in safe zones.  (Not sure how safe zones work. Can others come in and just not damage anything or access certain things. Or does a safe zone not allow somebody to enter all together. Or is this changeable?)
    - Pilots, technicians and sponsors will form teams
    - Leagues will build circuits (or choose from independent owners), enrol teams, organize racing seasons, schedule races, keep ranking, advertise, etc.
    - On the long run, with civilization expanding, there will be multiple leagues (maybe 1 planetary per planet, 1 stellar per system and 1 interstellar)
    - Qualifying to a larger league would be achieved by competing in smaller ones
Leagues should have the same rules, and stating this rules shouldn't be the responsibility of one of them.
That's where the committee steps in, as an unique structure.
The objectives are then clearly given: committee decides the rules, leagues do competitions following these rules.
To have the required authority and stay connected with "reality", I think the committee should have a body of voters made of leagues representatives.

The Community site is still within it's first iteration and I believe that this has been brought up before as far as limiting what is on the front page/improving the already existing algorithm to spread the love a little more to smaller and less frequent posters, etc.

I myself would like to see a weekly limit of posts and a limit to the amount of front page air time an organization gets - allowing for smaller groups to gain traction. Though, they may just fix it by allowing more posts on the featured page, i.e, the ability to scroll through like you've stated you'd like to see.

As for profile, I agree that a list of organizations or your chosen main organization should be visible.

But this will all take time ti implement. Good suggestions though.

...you wrote PUBLIC as PUBIC... there's a slight difference between those words.

And who cares, the orgs that spam a lot in the Community page will collapse when the game launches.

This would be really fun to watch (and bet on). I could see this becoming the sport for DU. People would stream it and it would bring groups of people together to enjoy it. I'm excited for this!

JC has said they are going to do their best to make caves happen. There is some technical stuff behind making it work.

So for now its something they want.

And there are so many youtube interviews, articles, AMA answers etc. Its really hard to keep track of all the sources.

Ahhh but outside of safe zones will mean that the crafts and drivers can be damaged/hurt. And I would invisage it being more like pod racing from that terrible movie which kinda ruined a trilogy...

    @johan26:
To make a few things clear (before closing this topic that was ongoing for too long):

    1) Arguing the fact that the limited success is just due to the monetization model is a very very biased statement to justify a point view.
True, it had an impact, without a doubt. But if there was a calculated factor to reduce the amount of players interested, it was this one. We don't want to publish a "mass market" game to apply to any kind of player. And it's also just a matter of financial viability: Dual Universe might the first MMORPG to use cloud technology to host the game universe and it will have a cost per player. Yes, Dual Universe will be a niche game, but with a community probably much bigger than all those against the subscription model can imagine: Free to Play and Buy to Play have shown they weren't perfect models or the ideal solution for every game. In short, there are not the prophetized evolution as they were presented. There are just alternatives, and alternatives that make sense in specific cases. As it is now, they're are not the models that make the most sense for Dual Universe. Plain and simple.

    2) If you don't see other reason for the slow progress of the kickstarter, here are a few that are quite obvious:
    - Dual Universe was nearly unknown 3-4 months ago. Visibility takes time. A lot of players that can be potentially interested are not even aware yet of the game existence.
    - There have been a few recent events (notably one very ambitious Sci-Fi game made by an indie studio that promises a lot more than what has been really delivered) that generated - understandably - a lot of distrust to the genre and we happen to have started the Kickstarter campaign in the middle of that. This is very unfortunate, but we couldn't reschedule the kickstarter campaign for later. So we have to deal with it.
    - There have been several kickstarter projects that have disappointed recently, generating - again understandably - some distrust to the crowdfunding model.  This didn't help to promote the game either. We still think that Kickstarter is a powerful way for indie developers to finance their game, even if there are projects failing. It's not a perfect model (no one is), it's true it can be improved, but it's a model that need to exist, just because it's a relevant model in many cases.

Failure shouldn't make loose faith in a model or a genre, especially when there have been also many success, but this is something only players can decide on a personal level and the mood nowadays tends - unfortunately - to see the bad without seeing the good.

We hope this will have answered most of the questions on the topic.

    Best regards,
    Nyzaltar.

Ok then set 2 easy requirements.

Total mass limits and widt limits.

What else do you need to control?

I think the tricky part will be keeping track of who passes the checkpoints.
JC has spoken about transponder units maybe this unit can ping the checkpoint unit to log the vehicle passing through.

There are some details that need to be worked out but in essence I dont think there is much stopping us from having a grand prix.

Yes please re-vamp the community page please. you should have like 50 displayed posts and limit each organization to 1 post showing. the community sites still get abused by almost every new organization. how are we supposed to advertise for our org, when our post gets buried in 2 hours.
