    Dear Noveans,

    With the launch behind us, it’s time we give you better insight into our direction of development for Dual Universe.

    Before the release, our Creative Director gave an overview of many upcoming game features, and we want to expand on his letter by giving you a more precise look at what we’re working on specifically in our upcoming updates.

    We still have a lot of development planned in the longer term which you can read more about in the letter from our Creative Director, and we hope that we’ve given you a clearer picture of our immediate direction for Dual Universe.     It’s been an incredible month since launching Dual Universe. We’ve worked hard to address issues, and though we always want to do better, we hope you’ve enjoyed the game so far. All across Helios, wonders are already taking shape as you bring the game to life. We can’t wait to see what you’ll build in the coming months and years.     We wanted to inform you that over the past week, many accounts have been banned for involvement with Real Money Trading (RMT) and exploits.
    We have stated previously that RMT transactions and exploiting are strictly forbidden in Dual Universe.
    We take this topic very seriously and the penalties for this kind of behavior are of the highest level.

    UPDATE
    Given a conversation with NQ this weekend and expected rule clarifications next week (not sure which way, just clarified rules) I plan to continue playing for the moment. This might end up being like when you plan to quit a job, you are offered some so you stay, and you end up quitting 6 months later, but we will see. I honestly do want DU to work out, I didnt put 2 years of coding into it because I want it to fail. When you have a game with GM enforced rules, they must be clear and they must be enforced, especially in PvE areas where all other players have no recourse. If we had territory warfare and could have dealt with this on our own, it would be a totally separate situation. Anyway, ArchHUD will be maintained and continue to be improved for now (as much as I was ever able to improve it).
     
     
     
    It is with some amount of deep regret that I say goodbye to DU.
     
    I have tried to support the game, beyond ArchHUD, but NQ's attitude to blatant griefing is just too much.
     
    This is not how you help a game grow.  We all know there are lots of issues, but I was hoping that the wipe and release would be a nice fresh start.
     
    I want to thank everyone who has supported ArchHUD (and ButtonHud before that) and who have provided support and kind words over the 2 years.
     
    I hated the fact we have T1 bots buying ore injecting unlimited quanta into the economy (why should coal be worth anything if no player willing to pay for it).
    I hated there are bots selling elements (takes way player market niche setting ceiling prices)
    I hated the fact that there is no decay of elements (life count is bugged, nothing on my ship goes below 2 lives left, and of course static elements never run out).
    I hated that we didnt get Territory Warfare (original promise)
    I hated that their solution to pvp problems was a stupid floor max speed no matter mass of ship.  (And floor burn speed no matter size of ship).
     
    I was willing to overlook it, and hope they would make the game better, but ....
     
    I cannot continue supporting a game where the dev's ignore blatant griefing and refuse to enforce their own rules.  (see below post).
     
    So I am done.  I wish you all well, and will see you around the pond.

    Hi everyone! 
     
    We’ve been hearing some legitimate complaints about the reward associated with having Thoramine on some characters. The issue is that the reward for having Thoramine can’t be bound to an account completely (it can be deployed and picked up by other players). Since this reward should be considered very rare, having the ability to trade it could potentially allow players to achieve a huge source of wealth if traded. In light of that, we’ve decided to use this reward for later events instead. Owners of at least 500L of Thoramine will still get a distinction that will not impact the in-game economy: they will be granted an in-game title to celebrate the memory of owning such a precious and rare resource.
     
    Regarding the controversy of people acquiring Thoramine through RMT: 
     
    After investigation, We didn't find any evidence of an RMT transaction about Thoramine. However, we do know that some amount of Thoramine has been exchanged in DU for resources in another game. Though this kind of transaction is not considered RMT (reminder: Real Money Trading implies that the seller receives real money), it does fall in a grey area, which was not covered by our rules so far. As the nature of such an exchange was not covered by our rules, no sanction will be applied to the community members for this time. However, from now on, transactions of this type are considered against the rules and all community members caught doing so will be subject to some significant sanctions.
     
    Strong reminder about public accusations:
     
    We would like to remind everyone that public accusations are a solid “no go”. There are only two scenarios possible:

    1) If you have at least partial evidence that a community member has broken our forum/discord rules or EULA, and you have evidence of this, please report it to the mods in private. In rare cases it can be more appropriate, you can instead report it - in private - to one of the CMs on Discord, or write to the whole CM team at community@novaquark.com. It’s not your prerogative to start a witch hunt even if you have evidence.
     
    2) If you just happen to hear about someone doing something that breaks the rules, refrain from making any public accusation. If you don't have any evidence (reminder: some screenshots of a discussion is not considered evidence, as it could be falsified.) However it can be a good start for an internal investigation. Also, keep in mind that providing false/altered evidence to the Novaquark team can backfire to the one(s) who provided the evidence. We are aware that some people consider weaponizing the rules as an okay form of “PvP”. To be clear, this is not considered okay at all by the Novaquark team, and can be severely  punished, for both following reasons: trying to take down an innocent player by shady means and wasting the time of the Novaquark team for no good reason. If you want to do PvP, you have to do it by the rules, or you’re exposing yourself to serious sanctions.
     
    Last but not least, public accusations can trigger harassment and significant reputation damage that can be irreversible even if the person is innocent in the end. Even if you’re sure the person is guilty, let the Novaquark team investigate. It’s not your prerogative to start a witch hunt based on partial evidence (because if you happen to be wrong, who will pay the most in the end for this error? Certainly not the one who started the public accusation). Of course, we also take into account that all public accusations do not have all the same severity (hence not the same consequences). If you’re accusing someone of RMT, Bug Exploiting, Doxxing, etc they are considered very serious, and they do not have the same consequences as accusing someone of trolling, for example.

    You are an amazing community. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for helping make this launch announcement such a major success! Internally, we had some goals for our wishlist on Steam, which we thought would be enough to help us get visibility on the store when the game launches (that's how Steam rolls...). We are just so happy to report that we are about to reach that goal IN JUST THREE DAYS!!!! This is incredibly promising for the launch of Dual Universe and we know we couldn't have done it without you, our awesome community of dedicated and passionate players.
    It’s time to double our Stream Wishlist goal! Let's make DU the surprise hit that we all know it can be. Please continue to spread the word about the wishlist to show our love and passion for this game. Together, we can DU it!

    Oh hi again.

    I honestly believe a full wipe will benefit almost everyone who is on stand-by, reading and not playing.  I do believe some players will be pissed if they wipe everything.

    Our main concern should be: "What NQ can do so we have 1k+, 5k+, 10K+ players in DU after release?". What you have atm in game can be translated in Know-How. The info you have is there and wont be lost. No matter what everyone can say, post release Legacy Blueprints (from this version) can be an asset which can be sold post-wipe for income (and some will think its not fair).

    A full wipe its the best option imho.

    Another important question is:

    Why should i play DU? What kind of game post-release DU wants to be? We will create again cities and ships and fight with nobody for months? Do we create Second Life environments and spend time there? Whats the high risk - high reward stuff DU has atm and will have post release? Afaik no planetary base/city raids, full safe zone in space, etc.

    Upon popular request from players, we will be holding a live, written Q&A session with the Novaquark Game Design team on Wednesday, December 1st  at 15:00 UTC. 
     
    NQ-Kyrios, NQ-Entropy and NQ-Wave will be answering player questions during one hour on a dedicated channel on Discord. We encourage you to prepare your questions in advance, and discuss the hot topics that you have in mind in this thread, with the following caveats:
     
    They will not be discussing future plans and upcoming features, as we are planning an update to the roadmap early 2022. The Game Design team will only answer questions in their field. So, questions about performance, bugs or the business of Novaquark will not be answered in this Q&A, for example.  The focus of the Q&A should ideally be on the latest release, Demeter, and any gameplay-related questions you may have following its release. Other questions on existing features may be answered, but Demeter-related questions will be prioritized. Our 3 game designers are very excited to answer your questions, but it goes without saying that the tone should remain courteous and respectful. It is in the interest of the community that these events, which we hope to organize more of in the future, stay well-behaved and that our employees feel a positive connection to our players.   
    We realize that not everyone will be able to attend the event, so we encourage you to pass along your questions to your fellow Noveans. Pending unforeseen technical difficulties, our intention is to ensure that the content of the Q&A stays accessible for a few days after the event, so that absentees can still read it through.

    The Demeter (0.27) update is fast-approaching, bringing with it lots of great stuff such as territory upkeep and weapon balance changes. But, perhaps one of the best new features of all is the debut of mining units. 

    With mining units on the scene, you’ll now be able to dig by choice, not by necessity. No more toiling beneath the soil to harvest ore, these babies do all the digging for you while you’re off doing bigger and better things. Terraforming and tunneling to build the constructs of your dreams are still possible, but will not yield ore.  

    There are two important things to note in regard to this change. First, since mining-related talents will become obsolete, those points will be refunded and can be used elsewhere. Secondly, the spaghetti-like serpentines of tunnels across Helios will be automagically filled in when Demeter launches. This means that any underground constructs will still be where they are, exactly as you placed them, but will require “digging out”. 

    You have a couple of choices. You can either dig them out yourself or you can request assistance from NQ Support reps to use the excavation tool, as demonstrated in this video, to instantly ‘erase’ all that dirt. Bear in mind, however, that Support’s ‘magic eraser’ only removes the dirt, it won’t cover up the construct. You’ll need to do that yourself. 

    For those who chose to go the ‘magic eraser’ route, please read this article for more information about the process. Please note that you will need to fill out and submit the request form mentioned in that article before Demeter launches. Excavation will be done on a first-come, first-served basis. Due to the number of requests, you may find it faster and easier to do the excavation yourself.

    We have been adding a lot of features to the Lua API following the additions of shields and core combat stress in addition to the docking and boarding changes. We have taken a lot of your feedback and suggestions into consideration and have made a few changes to improve some of the consistency and implementation of Lua.

    These changes are minor; we can't rework the whole Lua API without breaking most of your scripts. 

    With this in mind and to finalize the implementation of the Lua API associated with docking and future changes to other mechanics, we have decided to adjust a few parts that may be major for Lua creators, both for the addition of new features and the improvement and consistency of the API as a whole.

    In this first part of a three-part devblog, we’ll cover the recent Lua changes and additions, including some related to docking and the deprecation of quaternions.

    CHANGES AND ADDITIONS
    First, we have decided to rework the way the repositories associated with constructs and elements are managed.

    Previously, some functions returning position or orientation information referred to the center or even a corner of the construct, others to the position of the core unit in the construct.

    Going forward we have standardized everything. Once these changes go live, all functions will be based on the reference frame of the construct whose origin is the center of the build zone. Further, in order to guarantee the functionality of the flight systems and to safeguard the gyro unit, we have integrated in a clearer way of representing orientation.

    An orientation unit is an element that is used to define the orientation of your construct. There are two orientation units in the game, the core unit and the gyro unit. As a construct cannot exist without a unique core unit, the core unit is always the default orientation unit. By pressing F on a gyro unit, you can switch to using the gyro unit as the current orientation unit.

    You can see that the marker and arrow displayed when you enter the build mode will indicate the orientation given by the active orientation unit. 
    You can activate a gyro unit by pressing F on it and so use its orientation.

      REMOVAL OF QUATERNIONS
     
    Quaternions are the quotient of two directed lines in a three-dimensional space or the quotient of two vectors.  In looking at how players were using Lua and reading their feedback, , we realized that very few players were familiar with this mathematical notion of representing rotation. 
     
    Therefore, we decided to deprecate quaternions from the Lua API and instead expose the direction vectors of objects.
     

     
    While this leads to the addition and change of some functions, deprecated functions will remain backwards compatible and will display a deprecated message in the Lua console.
     
    <quat> core.getElementRotationById(<int> uid) : DEPRECATED <vec3> core.getElementPositionById(<int> uid) : Returns the position of the element, identified by its UID in construct local coordinates (instead of the construct corner). <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerRelativePosition() : DEPRECATED <quat> unit.getMasterPlayerRelativeOrientation() : DEPRECATED And we have added the following functions:
    <vec3> core.getElementForwardById(<int> uid) : Returns the forward direction vector of the element identified by its UID in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getElementUpById(<int> uid) : Returns the up direction vector of the element identified by its UID in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getElementRightById(<int> uid) : Returns the right direction vector of the element identified by its UID in construct local coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerPosition() : Returns the position of the player currently running the control unit in construct local coordinates (relative to the construct center instead of the control unit). <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerWorldPosition() : Returns the position of the player currently running the control unit in world coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerForward() : Returns the forward direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in construct local coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerUp() : Returns the up direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in construct local coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerRight() : Returns the right direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in construct local coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerWorldForward() : Returns the forward direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in world coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerWorldUp() : Returns the up direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in world coordinates. <vec3> unit.getMasterPlayerWorldRight() : Returns the right direction vector of the player currently running the control unit in world coordinates.  
    DOCKING-RELATED LUA API ADDITIONS

    With the new docking mechanic, we wanted to empower players to manage the parent-child relationship between constructs. 

    Some of the additions were added in  the Ares (0.26.12) update;  however, we still had more changes and additions planned and these will be included with the Lua changes release

    We have added and modified the following functions:
    <vec3> core.getVelocity(): Returns the construct's linear velocity, relative to its parent, in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getWorldVelocity(): Returns the construct's linear velocity, relative to its parent, in world coordinates. <vec3> core.getAbsoluteVelocity(): Returns the construct's absolute linear velocity in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getWorldAbsoluteVelocity(): Returns the construct's absolute linear velocity in world coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentPosition(): Returns the position of the construct's parent when docked in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentWorldPosition(): Returns the position of the construct's parent when docked in world coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentForward(): Returns the construct's parent forward direction vector in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentUp(): Returns the construct's parent up direction vector in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentRight(): Returns the construct's parent right direction vector in construct local coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentWorldForward(): Returns the construct's parent forward direction vector in world coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentWorldUp(): Returns the construct's parent up direction vector in world coordinates. <vec3> core.getParentWorldRight(): Returns the construct's parent right direction vector in world coordinates.
