  1. If I remember correctly the devs have for a while now indicated that there will be several other discoverable safe zones around planet surfaces. The one around the arkship is to provide safety for newbies starting the game. As time rolls on other safe zones will be discovered, and areas will be claimed by orgs with the resources to do so. And if you get shot at - thats emergent game play, not griefers, maybe pirates, regardless they are playing the game their way, so wave at them and smile, variety is the spice of life - and we want this to be a living game. So lots of safety, lots of risk and reward - sounds like its going to be great fun!
  2. Which is great! Just remember that just like in real life, when an enemy finds your underground hideout it can quickly become a tomb ........
  3. With a small group of two to three thousand friends.
  4. Great concept, hope you can pull it off
  5. Well if you had explained all that then that would have been better. Posting access day/times however could be an NDA breach. It seems like DU may have a login server issue - but thats just a guess, i have NO IDEA. And this has nothing to do with any form of 'Dick Measuring' as you are implying. Ive seen NDA's before where the above would be a breach - its as simple as that. Cheers
  6. also means no general non-gold member in this forum can help you as none of us will have any answer for you as we dont know....
  7. um wrong forum? - the above might be considered NDA
  8. I just re-read your comment, that whole paragraph seemed to imply there were large amounts of automation.....
  9. Mining wont be automated. Individuals might be more experienced than a new bro with mining but there wont be any mining automation.
  10. There wont be any NPCs in DU- only market bots.
  11. I like the sarcasm I must admit in theory it sounds good to put small ships weapons on a big ship, but if I was in a little ship approaching such a large ship, i would simply give it a wide berth greatly reducing the chance of small weapons hits as well as hopefully still being fast enough to avoid any large ship weapons. We will see however what NQ eventually rolls out - we might all be wrong.
  12. there is nothing stopping you from making a space ship look like an asteroid
  13. NQ has said that asteroids will be static units, no movement, no drifting.
  14. OK, I know many of you are from an EVE Online background, myself included, but there is another game that I feel DU will be like, and that is Second Life. Granted Second Life (SL) uses prims instead of voxels but it is a heavily used MMO based around building and partying lol. It is a completely user built environment, however it is not a user destroyed environment like DU will be. SL, like EVE, has been successfully chugging along for over a decade. It has its share of 'griefers' too but they can be dealt with, just like I'm sure will be possible in DU - especially within the safe zones, they are safe zones after all! So for me the safe zones will be very much like an SL environment and other zones being more like EVE. Both will work hand in hand with the lands of opportunity (non safe zones) like the wild west creating the demand for goods and services and the safe zones being the initial way of safe building. I think this is a very clever setup by NQ. Over time as large orgs setup their own org safe zones then likely higher level manufacturing will occur in those 'outer rim' locations. These areas too will be relatively safe. (yes I have lived in EVE nullsec and found it quite survivable.) I also think people need to get over the idea of 'the griefer'. Giefers are just people perusing their own path in the game and if you dont like that path see what you can do to stop them. This is what emergent game play is all about. Being able to play solo and/or in a group(s) is a fine ambition for DU to follow. There is no right nor wrong play style here, as long as the player is happy in their style thats all that counts. And if they aren't then DU provides the paths to get the upper hand. Sure, there may be tears, but every tear is a learning experience and thats what makes EVE and DU a long lasting environment. These challenges also change over time, thus keeping things interesting. Where DU ends up being superior is that it may be tricky in PvP contexts to correctly size up an opponent due to diverse ship/building designs - providing more diverse/challenging and hence fun If you believe that grinding to get to level xxx is the way to play a game then DU/EVE/SL wont be for your. Games like DU are for those that like the variety of life, the unexpected, the good and the 'bad'. That is life after all. So roll on DU - your mission has just begun!
  15. that is what emergent game play is all about
  16. Pretty sure future fuels will be more energy dense than current fuels - especially where space is concerned. I have no issue with different fuel names to what we know today.
  17. on point 3 it means there is likely to be an architectural clusterfeck compared to pre-DU systems On point 4 you can easily isolate en-mass. There is nothing stopping a group of say 100+ people from building a 'hidden' outpost somewhere so you get isolation plus social game. They are not mutually exclusive.
  18. the game is in development, its not released. Development takes time. Be grateful they let anyone into a pre-alpha product.
  19. idk. I think a skill progression system for all types (builder/PvP/scout/merchant etc) should be the only mechanic to reward those perusing those paths. Anything built on that, or along side that, may throw the balance off. Sometimes a simple system is the most playable.
  20. That might be a reaction of the 'danger' of living in an EVE space station. (assuming many in here have played EVE before)
  21. Hover cars - yes Wheeled/tracked vehicles - not at this stage, possibly later after release, maybe years after release due to server performance issues
