  1. Exactly. Beside the obvious long standing performance issues, the number one priority for NQ right now should be to implement viable income alternatives to mining. And once that is done, then you can start looking at increasing cost/grind for industry etc.
  2. As far as I can see this thread is not about 0.23 specifically, but more about the game in general. A recurring source of frustration has always been the method and timing of how NQ introduce changes/features. And how they don't seem to look at the overall picture when doing so. And in this regard 0.23 is opening old wounds. So it is more a case of "yes the finished game will probably need this feature, but why are you now doing this half done implementation that lacks a foundation in other parts of the game and will need a complete redesign later?" thing that NQ keeps doing over and over. DU is not lacking grind, it is lacking content.
  3. If you have played for 3 years like the rest of us, you should know that the negativity is frustration about the NQ development process, ignoring user feedback and then having to watch them back-peddle with quick-fixes that degrade the overall progress. Or in other words, the complete opposite of what NQ promised the process would be like in the Kickstarter campaign.
  4. Why does NQ always insist on breaking core game mechanics when implementing change? A core principle in DU is that flight and design is physics based, meaning that every elements has a size and weight that decided where and how you place them. So why should weapons be any different? If you want to limit L weapons to L cores, us the already established principles and make the L weapon elements a size and weight (and power drain in the future) that makes usage on smaller cores impractical.
  5. My base is close to District 6, and I am definitively noticing less traffic.
  6. That's it. Best straight to the point explanation yet.
  7. So to sum up. More mining and less reward..
  8. I have lost count how many times I have had to leave and reenter my ships multiple times to try and get scripts and control inputs working as they should etc. It is especially fun when your ship has a mental breakdown, just as you are about to enter atmosphere or at some crucial stage when landing. So it is way, way to early for NQ to be removing Alt+F4, restricting move tool etc. when things like this keep happening.
  9. Alpha is work in progress. Beta is most parts working, but needs bug fixes and minor adjustments.. So make that 2+ years..
  10. JC wanted a "centralized and unique persistent universe". And this is what that looks like when you don't complete the vision with the player tools needed, and a back-end that can handle the load..
  11. Totally agree. Docking should be a user action in the right click menu, with a confirmation message saying <x docked to y> when successfully completed. This would also prevent accidental docking when flying close to other constructs.
  12. They look. ni.. ni.. nice, when wi.. wil. will <connection lost, server timeout>.
  13. DU is filled with many such small inconvenient bugs that are low on the priority list for NQ to fix, meaning they have been there since forever and are probably gonna stay that way for a long, long time. And when added together they make for a frustrating game experience.
  14. I don't know it is good or bad that I am old enough to actually know what you are talking about. When I was young, a TV used to come with wood panels..
  15. If/when NQ catches up and decides this is unwanted behavior, they have multiple simple options that would solve this.. - randomize warp end points - implement a non collision zone around warp points - apply a non-collision timer to ships leaving warp But knowing NQ, they will probably come up with something completely different that has unplanned consequences or hampers other parts of game play..
  16. Scorched-earth is a true and tested combat strategy. Some might even call is essential.
  17. Sadly, same can be said for pretty much any type of entertainment medium. I general watch/skim the first episode of most things that seem interesting, but will leave it in an instant if it shown the typical sign of soul less mass produced filler TV. But you have to be willing to wade through the trash to find the hidden gems.
  18. There are two separate issues here. 1. DU needs performance optimizations badly. Nobody is arguing against that. 2. A computer should be able to run 100% CPU (including AVX) and GPU 24/7 and never overheat. Anythings else means the system has a inadequate cooling solution and/or to much OC.
  19. A real Q&A this time I hope, where he also deals with the hard questions. Like realistic expectations for performance in the future, bugs etc.
  20. Making it so that mining is even more time consuming and monotonous, and game breaking bugs have more serious consequences is exactly what this game needs now.. (and yes, that was sarcasm..) And what would the rationale for removing force respawn be anyways? 1. It's a common feature in games. 2. Voluntary suicide (for some kind of advantage) would probably be a natural consequence of having resurrection pod technology available.
  21. I am still trying to figure out who it was that built the districts and markets.. Did the mother-ship come with a workforce of lower class crew that Aphelia put back in the freezer once the work was completed? Or maybe she used remote controlled robots, and then just forgot to give us access to that technology?
  22. As long as gravity works, the ship will stay where you put it.
