At that point we'd be talking about a product that has spent over a decade in the alpha/beta stage...

If NQ is changing the game's design because they can't afford to pay their rented servers, there's little chance that they can afford another 3-5 years paying 50-100 people across two offices (on top of server costs).

This isn't a great beta program.

It's been pointed out many times that NQ doesn't really read this forum or listen to player suggestions -- this is something etched into the history of this forum many times over. Their philosophy of customer engagement is very poor; they only look at pics of constructs posted on Reddit (if anything).

They resent beta players for finding exploits and "slowing them down", but that's literally the point of beta. If you expect the population of a release MMO to play "honorably" that's another point that shows their hubris and inexperience.

Yeah DU's biggest issues are in the dev of the game itself...but the company culture and the whole philosophy of how this beta program is run (or not run) are also big red flags. They don't respect their players and it shows with how they communicate (or don't) and run their "beta" program.

Until right now I had impression that I own my land (tiles)
I've bought my land from a monopoly which owns all land in DU:s universe.

What happens at next patch is Nationalization.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationalization
Land which I own and had paid big quanta will be robbed from me.

    You must:
Pay taxes of all tiles you own. Regularly create income to finance your due taxes. Pay about schemas or mining units. Regularly calibrate your mining units. Haul ore to markets and sell it. Pay taxes of all tiles you own. Calibrate your mining units. Haul ore to markets and sell it. Pay taxes of all tiles you own. Calibrate your mining units. Haul ore to markets and sell it. Pay taxes of all tiles you own. Calibrate your mining units. Haul ore to markets and sell it. Pay taxes of all tiles you own.

    So:
You need to have steady income, run missions or mining units to be able to pay your territory taxes.
To be able to run mining units yo need either to buy them from markets or craft them.
For crafting you need to buy schemas for mining units.
When you have your mining unis placed you need to:
    Calibrate them regularly basis
Also, you need to collect ore and haul it to markets to sell it to be able to pay your territory taxes.
If combining Territory taxes and Auto miners. Term “Auto miner” is not true. It is auto Grinder. Creating automatically new endless need to grind.
Sounds more like second work than way to spend my free time.

    From miners perspective:
Let's picture out how all would start when Demeter – Territory taxes and auto miners hit the fan.

    Day one:
First Taxes are due. You need to have Quanta reserves to pay taxes of all tiles you own. Or else they will be instantly confiscated.
Then you need to have Quanta reserves to buy Schemas to craft your first mining units. Or need to have Quanta reserves to buy mining units. For that you need to wait for first units to become available at markets. … tick tock tick tock, next date for due taxes is closing.. Prices will be astronomical, because if you are not able to craft your mining units yon NEED to buy them before your property is confiscated.
Then you need to place our mining units. Before that you may have change to reactivate those tiles which are past due of tax payments.
Then you just hope that market bots are not removed, and ore prices stay high enough that you can afford the new cost of ownership for tiles.
So, if you have more than one or two tiles total in universe, do you have enough quanta reserves to keep them before you are able to recreate your mining gameplay?

I'll try to see this from the point of view of a new player. For the time being, he is bound to Sanctuary as his home.
He can't mine there, but he can't build anything either, because almost everything requires schematics and of course ore, which he doesn't have. So how exactly does a new player get ore? He can hardly accept the missions, as there is no plane that could fly these packages in terms of weight. Especially since he also needs fuel.
So he has to play through all the tutorials for hours for quanta and skill points. From the quanta, he then hopes that he can buy a ship to play the missions on the spot. I must be missing something, right?

I am on the fence about the territory tax.

As long as we still get the 150K every 24h, I guess there will be no problem for a newb to maintain some limited amount of territories. So that aspect is fine.

The problem for me has more to do with paying a subscription and still being forced to log into the game and travel around to maintain your territories and buildings etc. Imagine having spent years building up an empire in DU, and then for some medical reason or whatever you are unable to login for a long time. Or maybe you simply just want to take a break from the game, and play something else for a while..

And perhapse it is just me. But when I am told I have to do something, it makes me not want to do it..

What drew to me DU originally was the mining, scanning, locating ore and the chance of coming across larger nodes of ore. What sold it for me was the manual side of it, you physically had to roll up your sleeves go find the resources, and the more time and effort you put in the greater the opportunity of reward as you could come across larger volumes and other tiers. This tied together with upgrading your ship, linked containers, storage, travelling around different planets and facing different challenges, plus do all that with your friends made it enjoyable!

95% of my time in DU is mining. I have no interest in PVP or Industry. I fund my assets through mining, by providing manufacturers and builders with resources and buy their inventions to do more mining, greater yields and better productivity!

Whilst I appreciate the issue of underground mining on planets is impacting financially and performance of the game, it just feels like rather than fixing the issue at source, the issue is simply being deleted. Rather than fixing the problems underground mining cause and adding to the game with mining units, your deleting and replacing with automation. Am sorry, but if we are talking about the game being sustainable for the long term, fix the architeture of the game as opposed to dancing around the problem.

The mining units sound interesting, but they are automated with some manual input which has been confirmed to be limited. The update also referred to ‘limiting our time engaging with mining units.’ I mean if I spend all my time mining, I now have no reward for time invested and have been limited in that regard as I no longer play the game on my terms, am being ‘pushed’ away from what I enjoying doing.

In addition, as mining units are automated and basically end up AFK mining, it opens up the gates for those with many alts and quanta accumulated to date to set up an AFK income of ore which totally takes away from the game again, as this is venturing in pay to win territory.

Ahh wait! I can still get plenty of ore from asteroids right? Well, on the basis it takes me 75-90 minutes! to get to an asteroid (and everyone else is rushing to it also), 30 minutes to get back and to come away with less ore's worth than it cost me in fuel……. No.

The safe space asteroids get rinsed, and even if you go to discovered asteroids, it’s an hour of travel for a round trip where there’s nothing but shrapnel left. Try putting 200 asteroids in safe space and on daily respawn then there might be enough to go round.

In any case, it seems this update will make fundamental changes, create its own issues on top of existing issues, ground players to planets more than likely and take away rewards for time invested.

I ask as a suggestion that the shields be expanded to include a function.
Shields are great and look nice, unfortunately they are only needed for PvP, but it would be interesting if I could also set them to prevent damage when flying fast. At the moment, my ship starts to burn at a speed of 1050km/h. I can't use them. The shield could prevent this and allow at least 200-300km/h more, so that the shields would only allow a fire from 1350km/h.

There's like five people who got rich from exploits.  A wipe would make a very vocal minority (of the already limited number of people who still play) happy, and the rest would leave.  It's basically a big middle finger to everyone who has put in the time and effort since the beginning of beta to build wealth.  Doing a quanta-only wipe would be even worse.  I've made money by selling ships.  If you wipe the quanta but let them keep the ships, they they basically got them for free, and I (and every other ship seller) gets screwed.

Will this type of mining yield enough ore to meet current and future demand?

I don't like the idea that multiaccount players will now have a significant advantage in mining.

Why several? You can give bonuses through the units when mining ore, which now takes place on the surface. So you don't just get 20 litres / lump of ore, but more depending on the bonuses and skill.
How many terretories you will still have depends on the amount of the coming taxes and how you manage to add them to the quanta.

    This patch scares me!
I don't like taxes because it usually forces you to farm quanta to pay for them. So it's not enough to just collect ores to build something fancy and have fun - I have to collect Quanta now.
The game at that time promised everything to be player-controlled and that you can play as you like - now there are all these restrictions and guidelines on how you have to play. I don't know, I'll have a look at it at the pts, but I'm worried that it will keep me in the game.

Is atmosphereRadius equal to radius+atmosphereThickness? Is the thickness the altitude at which space engines start generating thrust (i.e. atmospheric density equals .1) or when space engines can achieve maximum thrust (and atmospheric engines generate zero thrust)? I think both values are useful. I submitted my suggestions at https://upvote.dualuniverse.game/suggestions/150263/support-lua-readwrite-access-to-voxels (do new players even know about the suggestion page?). Even the ability to query a voxel's vertex position would expose a capability that is not otherwise available and essential to building an in-game vertex editor. Of course, if NQ plans on releasing their own, there would be no need for it I guess.

Database is a wrapper around core and system functions. It doesn't return anything you couldn't get directly, and there is no function to get skills.

The Lua atlas will be useful. But, is it a just a .lua file in Game/data/lua, which has to be updated manually (or with a script) by someone from NQ? It may be better (more future-proof) to have a system function that would generate the atlas at runtime from game data.  system.getPlanetAtlas() could even return a JSON string, as the scripts would only need to parse it once.

This is the organization tag, not the transponder tag. The tag of an organization is defined when you create an organization and is a string of 3 to 4 characters.

    Hi all!

Let me try to reply you

    Multiple Lua API versions
This may seem simple from an external point of view, but it is not. Indeed, we don't necessarily have the resources to rework the whole Lua API at the moment and maintain multiple versions, even if we would like to rework it completely, there are more priorities at the moment.
Anyway, be sure I've passed this point on to the rest of the team  .

    Next Devblog
Thanks for your feedback! On this point I will be cruel I think, and will let you wait for the publication of part 2  . Sorry

    Suggestions
To make sure I understand your point, when you say "add a Lua scripter for players to have custom GUIs", do you mean provide Lua libraries for GUIs that could be used by scripters to make GUIs more easily on screens? I can say that we have already discussed this, be sure that we will check your feedback and take it into account if we see that this could be a thing for players.
What do you mean by a Lua API for the map?
And if we consider the API to send/receive messages to the programming board, we have senders and receivers for that. Or maybe I missed your point.

    Lua projection function
Could be considered, we've passed this point on to the rest of the team. Can't promise anything.

    Function naming and consistency
In fact, that's exactly why we kept the return of the relative speed with core.getVelocity() and core.getWorldVelocity(), with that, your flight systems will still allow you to land on moving parent constructs. Whereas providing the absolute speed would have prevented you from doing so. With this choice, a ship parenting to a parent construct will have its speed set to relative, and can then stop on the parent by setting its speed to 0 relative to it. This is exactly what you have in game now.

In addition, we did not want to have too long functions. So we chose to use core.getAbsoluteVelocity() and core.getWorldAbsoluteVelocity() functions to give you the absolute speed.
All these choices have been made to allow compatibility with existing systems and not to make the API too heavy.

Anyway all, we try to done some work to provide you Lua API for all new features we added and we try to improve it on the time, listen your feedbacks to fix issues, and provide you more libs that could be interesting for you. I hope I have answered your questions and that you will like these changes.

This is what many of us has been asking for a long long time.
But with the exception of the upcoming auto mining, all actions from NQ, has been to hide building/creativity behind an increasingly large wall of grind. And the by now infamous 0.23, being the final straw that broke the camels back and made many players quit the game (and probably a big reason why we are now getting auto mining).

With the ongoing discussion surround a wipe it certainly demotivates me to continue.  I play solo and the thought of losing all I have built doesn't sit well with me.  I started on beta launch much like many others and I only started as the topic of discussion back then was the final wipe had been done.  I could live with a partial wipe though I have no idea what that could consist of.  But if a full wipe were on the cards for release I don't think I would have the energy to start all over again.

Regarding the (endless) wipe discussion. The main thing that breaks the economy and creates the slow markets is that there is no destruction: players only ever have to buy each element once, unless they do PVP. Bring back the breaking of elements for crashes and the economy becomes healthy overnight.

I would not have a problem with a wipe if this would have been clear from the start (like during Alpha). But it was heavily suggested over the last year it would not happen. If I fully loose the year of daily time investment in my factory I would probably not have the motivation to start anew.
