    Before we can start with the KO mechanic, here is a quick recap of the current death mechanic in Dual Universe
    As death penalties go, financial loss, full body looting and location displacement are only beaten in harshness by perma-death (which thankfully, DU does not have).
    Other MMOs have death prevention mechanics. For example, Guild Wars 2 has a weakened downed state where the player character can crawl back from the brink of death or get a last shot in before collapsing.  Albion Online and the future Chronicles of Elyria both have (sometimes) knock out states where the player character is incapacitated rather that outright dying.
     
    Potential DU knock-out game mechanic
    For massive damage, like from a ships gigantic cannon, or face-planting into a planet at 200+km/h, a instant trip to the resurrection node makes sense. In other cases e.g. small arms fire and not too far falls, instead the players avatar could be knocked out instead. 
    While KO'd
    The player cannot act or move. Potentially even looking around would be limited. The player always has the option to force a respawn.  The amount of time spent in a KO state could depend on many factors, such as damage taken, armor, skills, time since last KO etc.  The players avatar can be looted for a smaller subset of items they are carrying e.g. weapons held in hand. Potentially limited bloodshot vision. This aids in deciding whether to hit that respawn button or not. After the time is up (could be a 20 seconds to minutes) the avatar can get up again with minimal health and potentially a limited time debuff.  
    Why a KO mechanic?
    Incapacitation gives more options:  
    A pirate boarding party that just wants goods, can incapacitate, take their pick and leave the tree to bear fruit for them again later. There is also a chance that friends may be near enough to protect the KO'd avatar and get them back on their feet. The player stays in the action a little longer (even if it is just to accept a coup de grâce from the enemy) Penalties (be it RP or with a reputation system) could be heavier for killing rather than incapacitating.

    The DU Community in-game game idea pitch competition. Welcome to the DICE Den.
     
    Note: Please keep discussions about a specific ideas in a separate thread, this thread is for entrants. (Putting this first so that it is hopefully read)
     
    What is it? A DU community competition, here on the forums, where anyone can suggest an in-game game and then the community will vote for their favourite.

    Rules:
    The game must take place in playing field of at most 110x75 meters with a height of 50 meters inside Dual Universe (give or take a few meters) and should cater for spectators. A single post may be made per person detailing their idea. Keep it under a few paragraphs, enough to get the idea across. Pictures (even mspaint drawings) may be beneficial, but keep them few. While this is more a sales pitch than a complete design, if you feel inspired, just DU it. Entrants are free to make assumptions about DU combat and how elements work in DU, if relevant to their game. Working in groups is allowed but only a single person can enter the group's work here and win the prize. The competition is open to all that can post on these forums.  
    Dates: Competition entries start on 1 February 2018 with last day for entries on 22 February 2018. Voting then starts on 23 February 2018 an will continue until 10 March 2018.
     
    Prize: The winning suggestion wins a game key of their choice and DICE (https://community.dualthegame.com/organization/dice) will implement a prototype of the game and potentially add it to the roster of DICE games. The game keys can be chosen from: The Long Dark, Quantum Break, Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, and Tomb Raider.
     
    TLDR: Yo wazzup! I heard you like games so I want to put games in your games so make a game then I award you with a game in a game as well as a game that is not in the game. Kapish?

    As many stated DU is NOT this first then that second...
     
    Whilst a simple headline - like the one used above as an example - can lead someone to believe DU will be a building game first. You have to understand the whole in order to understand the meaning of what that headline means or is trying to portray...
     
     
    So what does this mean?
     
    Well, it means that during the first couple of months, maybe even years, the primary focus of the emergent gameplay maybe be building... and not in the sense that everyone is making it to be but as building (the process of creating - not physical items - but the emergent gameplay that will play the bigger part, of the later years of DU) the universe. You can't have warfare, politics, trade and pvp without having built the emergent player driven universe first. And sure, that building process can even entitle physical building of constructs as part of the building process of the "emergent universe". 
     
    So again, while that headline in the website says "Building MMO" understand the context of it: DU is a "Civilization Building" MMORPG. What emerges from that... it is up to the players to decide when they interact with the simple mechanics of the game; trading, building, exploring and warfare. Who knows! Maybe it'll be more building of constructs, maybe the clashing of big empires and alliances, maybe it'll be a universe run by pirates full of pvp... The point is, we dont know what DU will be in the later years... we have to build that emergent universe ourselves and see what it turns out to be.

    The idea that im proposing here is that elements have a chance of breaking down the more they get used. So, every (arbitrary time) the machine gets used the chance of the machine stopping to function increases by a very small amount, but over time, the machine would become very unreliable, and it takes people with skills requirw to create the element to fix. Some benefits of this system would be: 
     
    Nerfed automation: Due to parts breaking down, you cant just leave your fully automated factory alone 24/7 and "self contained" systems that tries to do everything will need large amounts of skilled personal to maintain. This allows expanded programming/automation capablities without disruption of balance. (And yes, I want to make Skynet, CaptainTwerkMotor)
     
    Jobs: Spacecraft mechanics!
     
    Logistics: Militaries and companies will need logistics trains to maintain their equipment. With logistics comes a entirely new aspect of operations. This also can be used as a substitute to survival mechanics. "Amateurs talk about tactics, professionals talk about logistics."

    Actually no. I'm not downplaying building at all, i'm saying that all major features both building and PvP isn't above one and another at all and players will have to solve every situation in the game with their own brain. What has been advocated is for PvP to be secondary to building and with that ways of protecting the building element from the evils of PvP. Vastly different

    Hope everyone has had a happy holidays and a nice New Years. This sketch is the best I've got at the moment, when it comes to colour scheme, we said we'd like it to be a sort of dark grey/with some dark red and white mixed in. It'd be nice if it had a metallic shine to it, to make it look more like an emblem/insignia.

    Hi everyone, 
    A Devblog is coming (very) soon about griefing protection (and more info about the differences between Secure Areas and Non-Secure Areas).
     
    @Hades:
    There will be only one Secure Area (around the Arkship)... at the beginning. More can be discovered later by the players, once the game will be officially launched.
     
    @Captain Jack:
    To answer the question of your first post in the thread
    If the forest is located in a Secure Area, yes it will be totally possible to be in this kind of context
    That's the whole point of having Secure Areas in the game.

    Big losses is part of a player driven universe. If you put hundreds of hours into one house you better protect it well or build it strategically because people will be able to and should not be prevented from destroying it if they are capable to. You took the risk and you will have to protect it and if destroyed bring consequences to your own capabilities.

    I'm not really sure how Cargo Containers will affect a ship's Stats tbh.
    Depending on the ammount of stored cargo,will the weight of the container increase?
    And if it does,would these weight variables affect a ship's overall thrust capabilities?
