I agree with a subscription model! Good decision! Makes sense if You are in it for the long term and want to treat all players equal.

"The very tipping point, you say? It could be wonderful, but not too wonderful. Typically, larger organisations will be able to field a larger number of explorers at any given time. If you make these Alien Structures too powerful, you've just thrown away any chance to match or hold off larger organisations. Something could be found in those structures, I suppose but making those items so strong that they are the "tipping points" is quite overdone, don't you think?"

It would probably have been better to think of a different title and I know there are a few of us who share the concerns (still going to play this game no matter the model they go for) But I suggested a possible hybrid model though it did get buried and people will always sit on one side of the other for some reason or another so you should probably send an Email to the devs asking about it instead of waiting for this thread to turn into another heated debate about the payment model

I think I might be able to give it a go aha not to sure on how well it can turn out , And i think with my fighter ships would be more rounded, the blocky design was intentional in that, say the miners come under attack the side with the two large turrets on the carrier is Heavy armour so you can cover the miners as they work and the damage can be minimised.

Vyz Ejstu reacted to Anaximander in Am I alone in thinking that Stargate Probes are a bad idea?
Yeah, you could even isolate the Prime Stargate for your capital by not allowing anyone other than the top-tier members of your organisatio to get there, to reduce the possibility of any decapitating blow to your faction, if territory control can work via a network as well, going from a planet's entire hex to be enslaved to another planet's hex, with the collective hex of a system being controlled by another system and so on and so forth. Could make for excellent micromanagement by people whose job is to manage the logistics of an empire.

Same goes for stargates I suppose, one links to another in a system and all of the require a faction's "key" module piece on board the satar-gate for you to jump to them, or even, an FTL type of travel for your faction's ship, but no access to the Star-Net itself, so to avoid people in your faction abusing or misusing such a tool.

And of course, tolls. Money maintains the gates, tolls secure such a thing.

They will make the gates editable in that manner, since the RDMS handles rights for Organisations as well. Cause, you know, you need to have the key to your own house and the stargate, is a gate nonetheless

Also, stargates work by building a gate at your end, then sending a probe to another place, which then spawns a proto-stargate for you to jump to. Then, as you arrive, you upgrade the gate for a larger volume of ships, via modular pieces. It's not a one way trip, cause that would NOT make any sense. Perhaps, the size of the gate even affects the travel times. Larger gate = more easy to pass through it (or something to that line of thought).

The real tricky business is if you can link one stargate to many stargates on the adjacent systems around it and if a "Star-Net" can be built that way for massive relocation of flotillas on the borders of a faction. I mean, it should be a thing, since it gives power to those who can build such complex networks.

Hey friends, this looks promising! Go Go BOO!

Band of Outlaws is sure to be a fun, action packed organisation. Cybrex and any other leaders they may have, are undoubtedly going to treat you very nicely!

I hope we can work out cooperative deals, I have a couple things in mind already~

1.) I hope we can find some games for the DU community at large to play while we wait, possibly setup some match making somehow to find peoples to play with, or spar against.

2.) I was wondering how you all might feel about a CO-OP city or station, mostly for pirates, mercs, smugglers or other shadowy peoples. The name Tortuga came to mind, that was always one of my favorite city names from Pirate of the Burning Sea, plus Tortuga 'Turtle' Station is just cool, but Id be open to whatever, just an idea if you thought a neutral zone haven might be cool, sell off your looted goods to traders and return the goods back to the market.

3.) You... know, a certain organisation might need to hire organised raiders to shake the status quo up from time to time...

Uhhh what... I mean I love peace, yeah, yeah rainbows, skittles, peace!

If there's something I can do to help you compatriots out shoot me a message, regardless of my position.   P.S. Ryoko, nice Girls und Panzer icon, if thats not GnP lemme know i like the style.

Band of Outlaws still holds all of it's former services carried over from COPS. We have a new name, and face and will continue to do what we were doing before - having fun.

I have had some support already from various members of the community, and I really appreciate it. Let's hope all of this forum drama ends.

A multi-organization or "independent" city would be ideal I think, if they remotely coordinate building efforts and zoning.

Because that would add some proper believable diversity in the makeup of the city inhabitants while a blow to an individual organization would not possibly risk the whole city. Small to moderate orgs would benefit from the increased traffic and accomplish something that only a large one could easily do.

    Hi everyone,

The text mentioned in the first post is a text from the beta version of the portal, before going live. This text has been modified before going live but unfortunately not in all place. It has been changed on the "Create a new organization" page but not on the "Join the organization" page. This is just something that has never been reported and went through the QA before the portal going live.   Update on the Community Portal is incoming as we speak.   This is the text that should be considered as the official one:

Well, realistically speaking, your standards sound a bit OP and game-breaking, not "hard". It's an MMORPG, they won't let you be a rogue/mage/tank/healer. They did that thing in WoW, it was called a Druid Arena Season 1,2, 3 & 4. It was game-breaking and waaaay off balance. They did say mass will play a role in how many populsion thrusters you'll need, perhaps stealth will work on a similar basis, with your "cloaking field" duration being relevant to your overall mass., but negating you from using weapons in the process. Perhaps some people may find a way to make stealth bombers, who knows? Kudos to them. But having a 2 km ship, with stleath, armor and self-repair, it's way to op to be allowed by the game's physics and/or engineering logic.

Enforcing this would be the real challenge, a delicate and ungrateful task, bordering on the impossible: the constant diplomatic and military effort will mostly be a discouraging endless chore, dismissed at best as helpless whiteknighting anyway.

However, it might prove fruitful in time, as such pact/ convention/ treaty would at least help give shape and tone to all Dual Universe organizations, by self-labeling those who openly sport it and those who disregard it. Communication, more than strength of arms, would be the key here.

Therefore, though neutral observers of the galaxy's colonization, D.U. Sleepers would be very willing to associate themselves with this initiative and help promoting it. Steve, Vulture Corporation and/ or anybody willing to lead along this windy uneven-stoned path can get in touch with me anytime.

Vyz Ejstu reacted to Anaximander in Sensor arrays and distribution of information
Why would they have a range limit... in space... and the devs plan for a relativistic emulation in-game, so, a ship jumping into your system won't magically appear in your screen, it will take time for the "light" from the object to reach you, given there might be the need for warp for some ships to jump from planet to planet in a system.

In fact, radar is slow, like, really slow, you got to send a signal then wait for it bounce back, that's how they work after all. Instead, make the sensors act like really precise and high definition telescopes, or optic sensors, with a specilised player taking the monitoring station on the bridge of a ship to add their own skillset in pinpointing the enemy from the maximum possible distance and then providing targets for the weapons' officers on the bridge. Probes and such are a viable option, but they should be acting as sentires and relaying the info back to the mothership with the readings it can get before it is destroyed, if it is destroyed by players.

Also, have the Command & Control center underground, locked behind sealed doors, put on some password protection and people you trust as sentries at the doors. Cause if that thing goes down, chances are any planetary defense goes down with it.

As for LUA scripting remote transfer of read-outs, that is up for debate, given how the devs may implement such a thing and if there's a "connect dot A to dot B" style of setting up satellites around a planet for such thing to work.

My Death Star comment was very tongue in cheek, I have a couple of ship designs I've created in EGS that are based off the star ship troopers serries. My fighter is rather nimble but well armoured and gunned up with rail guns or another version with plasma cannons. My cruiser sized CV is long and lean not exact by any stretch but very similar to the Roger young. I have tried to replicate the roger young but the drop ship mechanic just doesn't work in that game yet far too cumbersome to land and re dock inverted
