    The Tempest Mission

The Tempest Mission is an inter-alliance effort to develop an advanced self sufficient deep space vehicle under a joint effort to map out space before the advent of Interstellar Stargate Networks.

The supporting game feature behind this mission is that players will have the ability to fly manually to another star system instead of using probes, although the journey would be extremely difficult it could be a very unique experience. It may take weeks or months to reach another star, but in doing so manually you would be separated from the rest of the players by several weeks time at the very least.

We aim to provide a path to colonize deep space before stargate networks can be created, and to provide a heavy role-play focused experience for people who want to embark on a mission reminiscent of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek. This may actually be one of the closest things to a Star Trek type experience, going on a year long mission to go where no man has gone before

I do want to stress that this is not an organization for everyone, as it will require a heavy amount of dedication and focus to see it through to the end. However, for those that stick to it, it may end up being an extremely rewarding and unique experience that could not be had in any other game that exists.

The long term goals of The Tempest Mission involve creating either a web series based on our lives onboard, or blogging or something along those lines. We want to make our journey feel like we’re really going where no man has gone before and living day to day somehow.

The findings made aboard the Tempest Mission will be made publicly available after they have been screened by the participating alliances for sensitive information. We want to incentivize other groups to contribute to the project, although many groups are probably working on a similar idea.

What sets Tempest apart from other larger organizations is that we are entirely focused on this single mission. From day one, even if it takes us several months to get into space, we’re going to be focused on doing whatever it takes to make this mission become a reality.

We welcome (and are actively looking for) colonists, who are free to travel with the Tempest to ultimately depart to live on uncharted planets for the establishment of colony worlds. These colonies will be separated from the Alioth system, and it is undetermined if they will once again gain contact with the home system.

Some of these colonies may become abandoned landmarks lost to time, and some may even become wealthy and powerful centers of commerce for their regions of space. If you think what we’re doing is hardcore, think about the people who want to live on a planet separated from the rest of the game alone for who knows how long. The ultimate survival game?

This may be one of the easiest ways for players who want to go 100% solo to get what they want.

The Tempest Mission is expected to take 1 full (real life) year to complete in order to meet the standards to be set by the planning committee.

The Tempest will not immediately depart for deep space on its year-long journey however. Instead it will first make a 1 to 2 week journey into deep space to test the operating capabilities of the vessel, as well as the ability for the crew to work together in confined conditions.

After an evaluation and findings analysis period, Tempest will continue to ramp up its expedition periods until a 1 month survey has been completed satisfying all guidelines and protocols determined by the various planning committees involved in the project. The idea being that we want to know how hard it is to survive out there alone, and we want to know exactly what it’s going to take for us to go out there for a one year journey. It’s likely that the entire design of the ship may have to be re-evaluated if issues are found, but that’s part of the risk of taking on the project.

Over the course of the project, The Tempest crew are expected to provide updates, either in the form of “machinima” RP-style videos chronicling their week to week lives, or blog posts on the project website. We want to keep the entire journey feeling alive and worth being active in.

We will carry out the Tempest Mission in several stages of development, many of which will be disclosed over time.
Staff and Media - [We Are Here] - This stage is focused on assembling a small group of players who are interested in helping to develop the media and organizational structure of the mission planning committee. This may also   involve creating a website for the organization, and promotional material for youtube, etc. Mission Planning Committee - This stage is focused on producing well-written documentation on the plans for the mission. This stage will involve creating a command structure for the vessel, as well as procedures for handling threats both off and on the vessel. Much of this work may involve creating templates and other written material for later use in the mission. Crew Guidelines  Logistics [To Be Disclosed] [i will continue to update this post over time as the outline for the project evolves and becomes more complete.]

It goes without saying that an interest in this project would have to involve an interest in Roleplaying, as there will likely be a large emphasis on that during the duration of the journeys. This is not a mission to take on lightly, it’s going to require a lot of dedication and time put in, but I am positive that when we return home from our journey that we’re going to have a story to tell that no one will ever come close to. That’s of course, if we can pull it off successfully.

We’re looking for people who can do the following, but not limited to:
Programming Freight Logistics Construction Logistics Design Warp Drive Maintenance Security Crew Navigations Crew Science Crew Ship Counselor(s) Engineering Crew Shuttle Maintenance Crew Janitorial Crew (yes) Research Crew Bridge Crew Colonists (very important, but extremely difficult role) Heads of Staff
You can be creative with what you want to do, so long as it is not disruptive to the goal of the mission. For example, I want to be the ship chaplain with my character.

This mission is also not limited to players from any single organization. People from any organization are welcome to join, as I expect the formation of this mission to be an inter-alliance agreement as it matures.

I am asking any interested parties to message me directly on Discord before applying to join the Tempest community.

    Hi,

We're always happy to see enthusiasm regarding our game and we're thankful for that. This being said, here are a few things to keep in mind to be sure to keep things clear and healthy for everybody:
Dual Universe community members must comply with all the rules established by Novaquark (Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, EULA, Forum Rules, everything) Even if we have nothing to say about the rules other developers establish to manage their games and services, we will never encourage any behavior bending or breaking Terms of Service or other kinds of code of conduct of any sort regarding a non-Novaquark game or service If our own rules and policy are not clear enough at a defined time, we'll update them as soon as possible to reflect as best as possible what we want -or not- to see happening in the community. This is done to keep things fun for everybody. Players feedback is very important here As we always said, we want to foster a warm and welcoming community. This asks to establish rules and guidelines. Common sense means that some are permanent and others could evolve as time goes by. So to make sure everybody has a good time, we kindly advise respecting the rules you agreed to comply with by creating a Novaquark account (and to do that in other games in general).

Dual Universe is a sandbox game and by nature, everything will be open. That's one of the most exciting things about our game. It has never been done like that before. At least, not at this scale. We're not naive, all kinds of behaviors will emerge from it.

Concerning the behaviors outside the game, same thing. And we want to prevent as much as possible the bad kind of actions we too often see as gamers and that are a plague for our passion. Grey and black market key exchange/selling/whatever-little-arrangements are among them. This is not something desirable when you want to maintain things cool for everybody.
It's not only frowned upon, we clearly disapprove that. A free key is a free key. It must be gifted for nothing in return. We know how things work though, we're not idiots (we're gamers too) and we will try to prevent that as much as possible with the means and resources at our disposal.
Again, if our current rules are not clear enough, we'll update them to reflect what is okay and what's not and the possible rewards or sanctions that could come out of that. And as always, the dialog with you guys remains open.

We'll give news on the roadmap this Summer, as announced. We're also considering new ATV members and will communicate about that in due time.

    Cheers,
    Nomad

ShinyMagnemite reacted to Eternal in My temporary leave
Hi! This is Eternal. I would like to publicly announce that I would be temporarily leaving Dual Universe. It has been proven by my experience itself that I could not bear to play this game at this early pre-Alpha state. I understand that this is "pre-Alpha" and that is why I am willing to wait, but right now, I just cannot take it. There are enough people to test this game, I'm sure you don't need me. There are people here who have left the community and came back (like KittyKhatt for example) and I intend to do exactly the same.
Let me talk to you on how I first got into Dual Universe; I am just a typical 20+ year old male who plays nothing but MMORPGs, I tried to play other genres but nothing stood to the level of an MMORPG in terms of contents, depth and customization, and player-interaction. This is why I love playing this niche genre. My first MMORPG was Ragnarok Online, and back in the days, I played a lot of Traditional Asian MMORPGs, so I love the old traditional system like grinding, slow progression, rewarding gameplay, tab-targeting combat, etc. that you find in games like Final Fantasy XI and Vanilla World of Warcraft in comparison to modern-MMORPGs. When Revelation Online failed because of it's greedy and incompetent Publisher, I was left with no MMORPG to play, this is when I got into backing Dual Universe. I reviewed all Kickstarter-programs and I found out that Star Citizen, Ashes of Creation, and Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen are not worth it based on the current available information and presentation. This is when I chose to back Dual Universe instead, I am already impressed with what Novaquark is doing. I believe that this game will change the genre, but it cannot change it NOW, the game does not exists yet. This is why I am willing to wait, this is why I will take my temporary leave because I could not bear to play the limited weekly test. I know what this game can potentially deliver, I played the tests, and it's impressive. It definitely have that immersion in it and it meets the criteria of what I'm looking for in an MMORPG. I have passion when it comes to building and entrepreneurship, and I'm familiar with the Aviation Industry in real-life since I work as an Aircraft Mechanic. Adding the fact that I prefer the Traditional-system of MMORPGs, this game suits a player like myself.
What am I gonna be doing for the meantime? I will kill the time in Bless Online until this game reaches a more developed state and more frequent test becomes available (if this game is not releasing anytime soon, I can bear a more frequent test, but not the once a week that we currently have now). By all means I am not giving up this game for Bless Online. Bless Online Is NOT a permanent game.
I would like to take my temporary leave and come back at a later date. I could not play this game at this current state. I play on each test for 8 ~ 10 hours straight and it's not even enough to complete my goals. What I need is a more frequent test, I don't care how long it takes to build, I can achieve it if a more frequent test is available which doesn't currently exists. My problem is not the build-mode being time-consuming, I can put up with that, my problem is there are no frequent test.
I need to take my temporary leave, I will see you all at a later date. I will check on the game (regarding news and updates) once in a while when I do get the time, but I cannot commit to it, not at this state (how can you commit to progression when the game does not exists yet with only a once a week test?). Tell me when the more frequent test arrive and I will be there with commitment. Right now, it's just hard to bear. Also, remind me when the Supporter-Packs will end so I can Patron this account and my alt-account before the deadline.
Goodbye for now, this is not over yet.

As cool as it would be to use countermeasure devices to that extent, it might be "simpler" to only leave it up to armor/weapon type advantages.

    Name: Yamamushi

    Region/Timezone: All the time

    Language: English

What type of Organization are you looking for?
I am looking for an organization of people who want to help organize events and that will value what I have to bring to the table.

Desired role(s) you wish to play in-game:
Events organizer, project manager. I have started numerous projects in and out of DU. If you know who I am, then you know what I can do for you.

    Roleplay interest?
    Yes

    Other:
As I've told others, I am not going to fill out your application to join your group. If you want me for my talents and for what I have to bring to the table, then you already know what I've done in DU and you presumably want to help those efforts. If that is roadblocked by me filling out a form to join your group, then you don't value me anyways and quite honestly I'd rather work alone than with people who are going to treat me like another cog in the machine. I already have a day job, I don't need a second one.

I'm looking for a group that will work as hard as I do on things and has people that are excited to jump in and assist on projects.

I'm not looking for org drama, I'm not looking for people that are going to micromanage me and tell me what to do. I want the freedom to keep working on these projects under someone's banner so that I can get help with them (DU Radio, The Contests I run, the giveaways I've had, the physical items I've had made, the list goes on). So it goes without saying that I am looking for an org with at least a handful of motivated people in it, and not solo orgs or people who don't have the time to work with me on anything.

I don't have a lot of high hopes posting here, and more and more it seems like I'm just going to end up playing the game alone, but I figured someone out there might be interested in having me under their umbrella.

ShinyMagnemite reacted to NQ-Nyzaltar in Player Recruitment & Advertisement: dos and don'ts
    I) About Dual Universe (and/or a DU Organization) Advertisement

    (a) It's fine to advertise the game and/or your DU Organization(s) to players you already know or with whom you have already played with in other games without harassing them. If they aren't interested, do not insist.

    (b) It's absolutely not acceptable to enter other gaming communities with the only intent being to randomly advertise Dual Universe or your DU Organization to players you don't know. Being polite isn't enough. Participating in said group with the intention to legitimize your advertisement is not enough either. You won't fool many people with this method. While one player may be convinced to join your Organization, it will most likely antagonize significantly more players, making them hostile toward you and Dual Universe due to these cheap and inappropriate practices.

If you don't understand why this is wrong, just imagine players coming from 10 different game communities and invading your Discord, subReddit, or Steam group, falsely pretending to be interested in the game you’re playing while instead being there to make advertisements for the game he plays in your channels. Any person would quickly be tired of this behavior and ban them all, as well as form a negative image of the game that has been advertised. Please don’t do this.  Not only is this rude, this can be considered harassment in addition to brand damage, which could result in a ban from Dual Universe for such behavior.

    (c) While it didn’t seem clear for everyone so far (despite being in our EULA and in our forum chart here), here is a strong reminder: impersonating Novaquark staff is a serious offense. This will result in a permanent ban without further notice or discussion. There is also no limitation period for this offense (meaning: if we got proof of Novaquark staff impersonation several months or even years later, the sanction will still be applied).

    (d) While this has been some kind of grey area until now, there won’t be sanctions applied to involved Organizations for the past actions. However, from now on, Organizations that will benefit from the aforementioned bad practices could see their member list reset at Novaquark’s sole discretion. We wish to make it clear that there is nothing to gain from such advertisement and recruitment practices as well as inform other gaming communities that the Novaquark staff will not tolerate these methods of advertisement and recruitment.

II) About Gifting Practices as a Recruitment Incentive

Novaquark has not enforced any strict rules regarding gifting practices so you are free to gift DACs or Supporter Packs as you see fit. However, we don’t encourage use of this freedom as a recruitment incentive unless you are perfectly fine with the definition of "gifting" (giving something for free to someone else without expecting anything in return for this gift).

Before gifting a DAC or a Supporter Pack, you should carefully consider that a player could leave your Organization or simply never join it at all. In this situation, this will be your responsibility and we will not refund nor reverse the gift you made to another player. The Novaquark team will not step in to oblige the receiver to fulfill his part of the bargain either (if there was any).

    So choose and gift wisely.

If you have any further questions on the topic, please let us know.

    Best Regards,
    The Community team.
