  1. Is this where we put in an order for a nice big double helping of asteroid belt? Belters gotta live somewhere ;)

I like the idea of drifting asteroids, if at all possible, though I expect we would only see something like this after release if at all.

...one last question though.. will there be front facing turrets for single maned ships?? i assume so but just a question.

As Twerk said, how weapons actually work has not been discussed.  What we can safely assume is that the players will be able to place the various weapons on their constructs (ships/buildings) as they see fit. So "front facing" will definitely be included in that.

This short story (around 5000 words) is set on Earth before the technology required for the Arkships (and more) were entirely completed. This story does not include any DU organisations nor does it reference any arbitrarily named gaming organisations outside of DU.

    Enjoy.

    ---------First paragraph snippet---------

I am a broken man. At least that is what the shrinks say. They say I’m too broken to continue in the Centauri Special Forces. But if one of the powerful nation states pays for your training, they own you. So that’s how I became stuck as a Tester, a guinea pig, for Centauri scientists. On the bright side, they gave me a place to stay, even if it is a single room apartment that you couldn’t swing a proverbial cat in. Centauri also provides a seemingly unlimited cereal molded into multicolored letters of the alphabet. Today, the cereal spells out “freedom” which quickly sinks away and then spells “dominated”. I stare at the word knowing if I blink it will instantly rearrange itself into the usual random jumble of letters. For taunting me, I teach it a lesson by biting into another mouthful. It might look colourful, but it tastes like week old sweaty socks.

They should make a map for this.

I am not particularly for this.  They should provide the tools so that we can make our own in-game starmaps.  Starmaps have the potential to be a large part of DU (though I expect this would only be implemented after release)

Also since the solar system is effectively destroyed, we would not be able to find it anyway. Black holes suck.

  5. Can't have exploration without decent ships.

Objective Driveyards, a company shaping up to be one of the best at ship construction shows how it's done in the latest Pre-alpha test that took place on the 26 November. The ODS Tidepoint was created through the collaboration of around 35 players and was featured in a tweet by JC himself. The ship was not completed at the time the picture was taken:

Don't you also want to crew an ship created by Objective Driveyards ship?

    Discover DU at DU Wayfarers.

  6. Who are the Dual Universe Wayfarers?

A group of explorers that share a passion for discovering what secrets Dual Universe has to offer.  This stretches from discovering new planets in the farthest reaches of the galaxy to diving through the deepest seas. If there is something to discover, we will find it.

    For the Individual:

Currently there is a space program with one of our sponsor organisations that will provide ships during alpha and beta for the avid explorer. Don't like building ships but want to go to another planet? Come be part of an exploratory crew.

Don't want to leave Alioth?  Do you prefer discovering the secrets of the planet chosen as the destination for the Novark? We have a place for you too.

Membership in this organisation won't have any impact on your other organizations. You can be member of multiple groups and leave this one anytime, as you wish.

But I don't want to join!

In the future, DU wayfarers will support those that don't want to join any organizations by giving those lone wolves access to job boards. You DU you.

    For Organisations:

DU Wayfarers is a neutral organisation, accepting sponsorship's by other organisations.  A great test-bed for more experimental craft.  Information gathered in exploration missions will be shared with the sponsor. Also organisations will be able add their jobs to DU Wayfarers job boards.

Sending a representative early is best.

I don't want to complain, I just wanted to see if it was possible, and maybe find out what a game like that would be like. I'm still waiting for the ultimate sandbox game, and this one seemed pretty cool, but space engineers is more my speed currently, since I don't really get into multiplayer games. The reason I don't get into multiplayer is that I usually fall behind in game progress, and in PVP situations I'm just not very good. Something that I would like to see in a future video game is something with auto generated humans and cities that can be interacted with, and other complex cencepts like that.

This is the opposite direction that Dual Universe is taking. Humanoid NPCs and generated cities is what is being done in the likes of Star Citizen. In DU, players will create the cities and the only humanoids running around will be players.

DU is an MMO with emphasis on massive and multiplayer and online. While there is PvP, there is also a safe zone and a boat load of players that want to help keep you safe.

As for falling behind, skills will be trained when you are offline as well...there is no grinding to get skills up.

Ultimately, DU is a sandbox game with the only goals set for you are made by yourself.  Whatever you choose to DU, have fun :)
