They spend too much time listening to the PVP orgs and less time actually fixing the garbage floating around the world. They wont even give us a way to salvage it.

I understand this. That is why when I stopped playing I donated all my money, materials, real estate and constructs to someone who intended to keep playing.

When you quit, do your bit for for the future of the game and don't horde binary wealth in a black hole that you will never open again.

Only reason to buy stuff is that you cannot make it, so anything that can be made with nanocrafter is excluded, and then its still cheaper to buy a schematic and just build it yourself. Only stuff i buy at the market is at 10 to 20% of the general cost. rest is just a waste of quanta. economy by market is as dead as the builds around and on them. Where ever you go DU is a wasteland since 0.23

Bring on the asteroids- bring on the mayhem! BRING ON THE FUN! The only consumption I need is of all of Alioth's ore to build my empire on Madis and among the stars! In the short time i've been defrosted I've seen wars, org theft/upheaval, player made content with racing, player made quests, and now a  casino situated on a novian run/built station in space- all in less than a year of being dethawed from the ark ship.

The helios economy hasn't existed long enough to even be alive yet, it's just an infant still. Give it time to grow.

Every time I buy something on the markets, I think about all the mining or time sitting in a cockpit flying missions I had to do for the quanta. And to me that is the number one reason to spend as little as possible.

And regarding abandoned constructs/tiles. As long as the stuff left behind is owned by early supporters or someone paying subscriptions, then NQ cannot remove them regardless of if they are currently playing or not.

But yes, if the owner is not one of those above. Then after some time threshold it would be a golden opportunity for NQ to reuse the scavenger mechanics and generate some much needed content in the game.

And what are you gonna do with so many constructs and private lands (tiles) that were left behind by people who left this game? They have to be adversely possessed by scavengers and squatters! You cannot leave them the way they are! This is a major problem that is turning off current players and will turn off new players!

DU's in-game economy has been stagnant ever since the beginning of early access and is only continuing to recede as we lose more and more players over time! Why is that the case? You cannot support production without consumption mechanics! In a consumption-driven economy, money (coming from an external source) needs to be injected into the domestic market in which it will end up in the hands of consumers who will spend those money to support the local industries. The economic growth is dependent on consumption! If the consumption remains weak, it does not matter how much money they have in hand (and how much this eased), if they will not spend (because of lack of consumption mechanics in the game), there won't be much trading going on and therefore the lack of activity! The difference between this game and real-life is you don't need much in this game to get through! The game is 100% player-driven, with no progression, with lack of consumption mechanics. This explains why the activity in this game is as such! People have no expectation because there is no goal! The economy has no engine at all! If the game is designed to be minimalistic, there is only one way to play the game and that is to play it as a minimalist. You got too much items in this game that don't break down; you can literally provide for yourself without needing to trade; and there is not even any goal in this game but to continue to acquire more things that you don't need. What happens when you already get to the top of the mountain? You are discontent! So add more content for me to continue to have expectations! And you got to do something about our declining confidence in the economic system such as the exploits, free quantas, the bots, etc.! Not only is the economy stagnant and receding, it is also broken to the point that it already collapsed!

All what Graxxor says, frankly nothing to add, well maybe that infrastructural build zones would be very usefull, even without cores but since the system needs them, maybe a new corte type with only infrastructural elements for parks, bridges, roads, parking zones, whatever

Not only that but it really uses up your org core limits.

TBH I would be happy with different shaped build cubes selectable on deployment:

1/4 height but twice as wide and long.
“Pizza box” suitable for landing pads and  low, sprawling structures.

    1/2 height and double length.
“shoebox”. Suitable for most large spacecraft or general buildings.

1/2 height and width but 4x as long.
“tube”. Suitable for roads, bridges, gantries and mega structure spines.

Also, for the love of all things holy, please give us the ability to deploy cores in build mode.

and add an “enforce planetary level” toggle box while you’re at it, I’m fed up of all our buildings being slanted because the initial structure is 3km away and the planet is curved.

I know that NQ were struggling to make dynamic L cores work probably, so it might take a while before XL dynamic constructs get implemented, but what about XL space and dynamic cores? I mean, every market has one and seems to work fine, so what's the problem with giving players access to them as well? even if its super unstable, NQ could at least put it on the PTS so we can try it out and test it. getting reaaaal sick of every large construct needing like 30 L cores to work, it really clutters your radar.

Honestly, the way they go into a complete other direction then the kickstarter promis makes the whole thing rather a scammy way to get cash.
Exodus of veterans might be incoming soon, oh wait lets rephrase that. Exodus of small leftover group of veterans incoming soon.

And still the lag is killing, markets are hell, and even random cores somewhere out in the open cause so much lag the Game freezes.
I do hope we for once dont get a new patch with all kinds of, come play because we are cool stuff but with actual performance boosts so people might even stay longer then 20 minutes after hard crash in the first location they spawn, or the first market they land on to get stuff.
Game Idea is still good, kickstarter original was just awesome, so from awesome to good is not the best growth potential. with the next patches we will see if it stays good or goes down further

    That's the big question.
The main pitch JC always used when presenting DU, was 'unlimited' open world possibilities with communities building large cities and asteroid sized space stations. And PvP was never meant to be more important then any other part of the game, something that together with the 'unlimited' building and scripting set this game apart for all the others.

But the game engine has never been able to demonstrate that it can handle anything even close to this. And every move NQ has made lately, seem to move DU away from the initial premise.

Granted, this can be seen as a good thing since NQ is now finally starting to make hard and realistic choices needed to progress the game. But at the same time the DU subscription model was already a hard sell even with the initial game promised, so the question is if people will buy (literally) into this new more limited direction.

Another trick if you are in a pinch and away from larger containers, is to stack stuff onto the 'emergency ship' and compact it (Alt+B).
And if you don't already have a compacted ship in your inventory ready for unforeseen events, look into that too.

Imagine you have spent a lot of time building that 1375 large cores into something big and they say you you have 1 month to comply...
i thank god i didnt spend my time doing it so ....now i will simply let it go...
DU has became from a builders game to a more centralized pvp game which we will see if it is worth it in the upcoming time...
Let it be for the best of DU then ....

The AC has grave concerns over intel received this last week of missions being introduced into the universe. There are several groups of shady organizations delivering contraband out of Feli to several surrounding planets.

These shady organizations in question have been disguising dangerous shipments as mundane and routine ore and mineral shipments, such as scandium and chromium. Core Samples from these intercepted shipments are rumored to have been transported to the AC's home world where their best and brightest scientists will conduct further analysis. These materials can ABSOLUTELY not reach the hands of citizens for it could be devastating to the population!

The AC has formed the largest fleet the universe has ever seen to combat this threat and stomp out illegal and dangerous activities. Effective immediately all vessels seen attempting to leave Feli must stop and submit to cargo inspection or be immediately disabled.

All civilian traffic is warned that a convoy of AC haulers transporting valuable space fuel for these operations will be transported to the planet of feli at 3pm EST. This convey is being guarded by the AC fleet and unidentified vessels will not be allowed to approach.

    Flying Faster with less
    or
...Dual Universe and the cross section calculation

I quite enjoy building small efficient atmo flyers (you probably know the Hagboard)
The key to the fun factor of these little ships is keeping the Frontal Cross section as low as possible. For the Hagboard it is usually 0.38 which is the smallest value that is possible if you still want to have the comfort of a hover engine on your construct.
But since some months, DU is not making it easy for these little ships. There is a bad bug with the cross section calculation which usually leads to a wrong (higher) calculation of the frontal cross section.
You can easily see the problem by entering build mode and having a look at your max speed & frontal cross section. In most cases you first see lower speeds and a higher cross section, and after some additional seconds this value changes to the "real" values.
So the frontal cross section is supposed to be the total surface of the ship when looking from the front. This should be a static value, but due to the bug, we get 2 separate values.
Even worse: when starting a flight DU usually takes the "worse" value to calculate the flight physics.
I assume that the first "bad" calculation is done on the client side, and the second "real" values somehow come either from the server or using some values being loaded fro the server.
As sometimes the server is slow, we get into a situation where the "better" values might even never get loaded to the client.
As well during flight, DU re-calculates this values. So even if we manage to start a flight with the "better" values, we might get faster speed & Acceleration at first, but after some control movements DU usually falls back to the slow values.
There is 1 trick how you can do a test flight and "force" DU into the faster values.. give this a try:
    1. place your construct flight ready, pointing towards a wide open area ( e.g. a big water surface)
    2. enter build mode and look at your max speed / frontal cross section
    3. wait for the max Speed & Cross section to be displayed with the "better" values
    4. exit build mode and directly activate the seat/remote controller
    5. give full throttle, avoid steering and try to stay between 100 and 300 m...
By following these steps you should be able to do a flight with the "full potential" of your construct.
Another possibility to increase the speed of your construct is to remove ALL Honeycomb from it. The cross section calculation only fails if there is at least 1 honeycomb voxel on your construct. so without them, it should always use the "better" values.
i have 2 tickets around this topic open now for 1-2 months, but obviously NQ has more important things  to fix right now. But as i get asked multiple times a day, i thought it would be easier to give the explanation here so i could point people to it ?

    Have fun flying,

I used to be able to play this game with very few technical problems. But now when I fly around I get lag which can be lethal in some cases.

I looked at the system requirements and the recommended RAM is now 16 GB and GTX 1080 (8 GB). I do have the 16 GB requirements fulfilled but my GPU seems a bit lacking (I have a 1660 which is only 6 GB.)

Do you think I should upgrade my computer for a better experience?

As @Habitant said above #1 is SSD.

You can get any current midrange Intel or AMD CPU with 6+ cores and that will be plenty for most games.

Let's just assume that you won't be squeezing blood from a stone and trying to get a GPU, but rather hang on to what you've got. Prices are in an unholy place right now.
If you can wait a little and have a poor IGPU (Integrated GPU on the chip) setup right now you might want to wait for the Ryzen 6700 (IIRC) which will come with VEGA 8 graphics built in... It's not a racehorse, but it should be better than current offerings.  You'll need an AM4 motherboard, obviously.

If you're not changing your CPU/GPU then at least these two things make the most sense regardless of your setup:

    SATA or NVME SSD
    2x16GB RAM

    SSD:

I will NEVER buy a PC with application/OS storage on spinning rust (HDD) ever again again. Full Stop! Just don't punish yourself or your PC like that.
SSDs make a world of difference and can be well over x10 faster than HDD in some scenarios.

Don't fret if your motherboard doesn't come with a dedicated PCI (M2) NVME slot for an SSD. You will get 90%+ of the performance boost of SSD from merely replacing your SATA HDD with a SATA SSD and won't re that much difference moving up to PCI based solutions unless all your other components are top notch.
However, if you do have an M2 slot on your motherboard, there is little point getting a SATA SSD right now since the price difference is minimal.

Get a quality SSD with DRAM cache (i.e. not DRAMLESS) 512Gb seems the sweet spot for performance/durability vs price right now.  I always go with Samsung EVO and have never replaced even a single one yet since 2016.  But of course, YMMV.

    RAM:

32GB of RAM or more will give you an all-round smoother performance and reduce wear and tear on your SSD due to swapping data off and on to the disk when RAM is full. (Make sure you get 2x16Gb to give you dual channel and to let you expand with another 2x16 down the line if ever needed for future proofing.)

Don't worry about super expensive overclocked RAM it makes at most only a few % difference to speed in some cases... just get any decent branded RAM like Patriot, Corsair or Crucial and at the stock speed recommended for your CPU.

    FINAL, PRO TIP:

Despite all marketing claims, RGB DOES NOT actually boost performance of the attached component by 50% ?

    1) SSD is a must
    2) More than 16gb or ram would be great but 16 should be ok as other players also didnt have any problems and it was running fine.
    3) Pagefile is useless ( it was meant for windows xp) me thinkees
    4) Graphics card greatly improves gameplay ! The more memory the better but a lot expensive nowdays
    5) Set CPU core use at 2 cores in settings (custom)
    6) Market 6 loads a bit slow so dont count on that

    Hope that helps...
