Novean-61657 reacted to RumRunnerI in The server issues have create a no-win situation.
Yea this is frustrating and I feel your pain. My T1 flowers weren't making more money then the taxes on it and paying those kept me in a constant state of broke. I was never more than a few days of missing a tax bill. I was running missions but it takes too long and isnt fun so to survive, I pulled all of my miners, left my flowers to the dust bin of history and have been far richer since. It doesnt solve your problem but it is a bandaid until your issues are finally resolved.

Novean-61657 got a reaction from GraXXoR in Talemai is solid proof that ore distribution with infinite ore pools that can be claimed is terrible for game
Keep in mind that some with 10-20 accounts certainly didn't pay $300+/month... Some paid $70/year/account and prepaid for years. Sure, $1400/year for 20 accounts is a lot of money for some, for other's it less so. But keep in mind that this happened in a period where people couldn't spend money on vacations, going out, new computers, etc. Thus some might have that money to spend...
Keep in mind that a study in 2017 had as a result that the average US student spend $900/year on booze... What if you're a student that doesn't drink (alcohol) at all? Add inflation and that $1400/year for 20 accounts isn't so much as you thought. IF you want to do that now, it is more like ~$2800/year for 20 accounts, but still quite a bit removed from the $300+/month...
That said... 20 accounts... Much of DU is gated by player activity. I wouldn't want to manage 20 characters! I have four and while I might theoretically would like a few more due to talents, actually using them all would be an absolute pain! I wouldn't even want to think about using them all to automine... That would be another full time job! No thank you!

Novean-61657 got a reaction from XKentX in New planet being added: Talemai (with patch 1.2)
Very little of the old Talemai remains, so yes it's an old planet, but it went through extensive plastic surgery and currently has the value of a $5 hook...
ps. We're still playing a beta... 😉

Novean-61657 got a reaction from GraXXoR in Ore Availability and Distribution
What? You still haven't gotten onboard with Dual Universe's NQnian physics? Go back to DU university you pleb! Weight increase in space fuel is due to Deck-chlorians physically manifesting after they have gorged on stem bolts... The reason why they can't be in the same fuel tank is obvious, the Natron stem bolt eating Deck-chlorians hate the Limestone stem bolt eating Deck-chlorians, etc. If you combine them in the same fuel tank, you'll get a clogged fuel tank at best or an exploding fuel tank at worst (due to the massive foodfight). Many testpilots also complained about highpitch voices shouting "Natron stem bolts are better!" giving them a headache...
@NQ-Ripley We demand this be made cannon now! 😉

Novean-61657 reacted to Aaron Cain in QUESTION: Where is the new Idea and Suggestions Sub Forum?
Probably development has not halted but frankly, the old ideas section was also only for players as none of the proposals ever made it to the game. Illusion of listening is a great good

Novean-61657 reacted to CptLoRes in NQ is "all in" on web3 -- so what's next for DU?
I just had to try. Here is what ChatGPT had to say about Novaquark using voxels and web3 to make the metaverse. And of course community, lots and lots of "community".

Novean-61657 reacted to Mordgier in The devs need to pay attention and learn from other more experienced Dev teams when it comes to Community and player communication. ( A open letter to NQ)
Please have some respect for the devs. Coding DU is bad enough, being required to actually play it too feels like just kicking someone when they are already down.
I know how many of us feel about NQ, but please find some mercy in you for the devs - they've suffered enough without having to play DU.

1000 hours since release?
it was released about 60 days ago. So you’ve played about 16.7 hours per day on average.
Holy moly…. And I though *I* was an addicted to this dumpster fire.

Novean-61657 reacted to NQ-Wanderer in UPDATE 1.2 ARRIVES ON DECEMBER 13TH - TACTICAL MAP, REVAMPED ASTEROIDS AND MORE
Development forges ahead in Dual Universe. In update 1.2 (arriving on the 13th of December 2022), players will see new game systems and overhauls all about exploration, discovery, and salvaging.
THE TACTICAL MAP
Are you looking for a fight or trying to avoid one? Whatever your aims, we’re adding a new tool for you to navigate with more precision and awareness of the space around you. With integration into the piloting and gunner HUD, the Tactical Map allows you a clearer view of your surroundings and a better ability to interact with the map.
ASTEROID REWORK
Following frequently requested feedback, each asteroid now has an independent lifetime parameter that determines when it will despawn, meaning that asteroids will spawn randomly and despawn independently of any cycle based on their lifetime parameter. Players will see a constant spawning and despawning of asteroids in the game world.
The ‘Discovered Category’ is being removed. There will still be a timer to broadcast the discovery of an asteroid, allowing players to mine them before their location is moved from the ‘rumored’ list to the ‘broadcast’ list.
We’re also removing the tier information from undiscovered asteroids before their broadcast. Asteroid tier information is still revealed after the broadcast. However, this change will allow solo players and small groups a better chance to mine the high-tier asteroids they’ve invested in discovering.
SALVAGE OPERATIONS
Quanta floats out there, adrift in space, waiting to be claimed. Space recovery and reclamation have never been more profitable. Until now, Noveans would have to fly, hoping to stumble across wrecks, but that’s changing. We’re adding wrecks as ‘Abandoned Wreck’ items in the ‘Landmarks’ tab of the map. These are not pinpoint locations, however, and some searching is required to find the wrecks.
------------------------------------------------------
We’re excited to bring you this next step in our development of Dual Universe. We have streams planned to show you the upcoming features of update 1.2, and we will have more information on update 1.3 soon. Let us know what you think of this update here, and thank you all for your continued support.

Novean-61657 got a reaction from blundertwink in Do you think it's Sadistic Tendancies?
I actually don't agree with you.
I have a big issue with the use of persistent and have difficulty with attaching the term 'game' to DU, at this point it's more like "DU is a very long (2 year) multiplayer experience."
The Role Playing part is actually true for many, in a greater or lesser degree. That it doesn't use stats in the same way Dungeons & Dragons uses them or that there are no NPCs to really interact with does not make the experience any less 'Role Playing'. We're all playing a miner, a trader, an industrialist, a ship designer, a pirate, etc. The only downside is that all of our characters have only one 'quirk', namely all being 'sadomasochistic'... How else do you explain the 'gameplay' and our pursuit of it... 😉

Novean-61657 reacted to Mordgier in Do you think it's Sadistic Tendancies?
So the cost of DU is not really CPU cycles but CloudFront - DU uses Cloudfront to push out all the voxel data. Any construct or terrain change you make is stored in cloudfront and pushed out to other clients as needed and then stored as cache by your client, at least till the cache is invalidated. Just how much data is pushed is easily tracked by checking your cache size folder. For the estimated costs it's pretty easy - https://aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/pricing/
You can confirm this easily by the way -
Keep in mind that NQ likely has a contract with AWS that is for negotiated pricing, it's pretty rare for any significant users to just pay the list price.
That's why mining had to go and that's why constructs have to get destroyed if not tied to a paid account - else they are forever sent out to other clients and NQ pays for it.
Tracking millions of autominers is just a bunch of rows in a table - it's not a significant cost really.
As to why NQ made the AM timer 24 hours instead for 20h like the "daily" timers in many games - it's because they have a consistent history of failure to learn from the mistakes made by other games.
"Daily" timers being either set to a specific reset time or less than 24h to avoid the constant 'shift right' for the players has been standard practice for some time in other games.
I had previously posted a breakdown of what I estimated NQ to be paying for hosting and how many players they needed to cover their staffing costs with the profit assuming France average DEV costs + taxes - and that post got deleted and I took a 3m ban for it sooo uhh not doing that again - you're welcome to draw your own conclusions though...admittedly I did also state that you shouldn't buy into DU because of that data because well...uhh...DOA.

When it comes to NQ I think Hanlon's razor is a better explanation for most things that happens.
"never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."

Novean-61657 reacted to blundertwink in Did NQ just announce their newest project...3d blogging software?
Unfortunately, linkedIn is obnoxious in requiring a login.
I'll post a screenshot of the post to avoid direct linking to LinkedIn -- if any mods have issues with this, I apologize in advance.
I'm only sharing because it's from a public post and the direction of NQ as a company is 100% relevant to DU:
