The problem is that NQ has changed the game in such a way that you are basically forced to bring out the calculator or a spreadsheet to see how much you need to make to pay your taxes and see what's left after tthat to do anything else.

And so far, it seems most will just need to go back and make more money to get ready for the next tax bill.

Same issue with territory tax. Reward frequent players, but at the same time don't punish casual players. That will just make them leave.

We do appreciate being able to voice our concerns, and inevitably there's going to be heated debate over these tweaks and changes.. as a software developer, I really do think it's amazing what NQ has accomplished, as well as what the community has accomplished.. and I have to thank everybody at NQ for the crazy amount of work done behind the scenes. I love the game and ya'll. We are going to need to work together to build some community and civilization in this civilization game. Honestly I'm sorry for even smugly pointing out smugness, ya know?

About these game-making-or-breaking decisions the Dual Universe depends on though...

Ultimately, I still want to know why we need to err on the side of resource scarcity beyond the players time.

Dual Universe is the only game I've played in over two years, and I've played it pretty darn consistently (as far as my free time goes)... But I have yet to even see PVP combat, beyond getting a months worth of my game times work blown up out of nowhere by space pirates while I was tinkering with LUA... and that's emblematic of my exact gripe with the game in its current state. I, as a player who can't devote large (every gamers got a different version of large) amounts of time to a hobby like this one, can't risk loosing what takes so much time to build. I love building, that's primarily why I'm here, but I'd love to be able to see and be part of a giant space war at some point, right?? Like, I was hoping I'd have seen more of that in two years of playing than a twitch recording of some white radar dots. I know there's plenty of space pirates out there and people solely devoted to space fights that have seen lots more action than me, but I really do hope that PVP can one day be the resource sink this game needs, and not some tax system that only really extends the grind, and might ultimately prohibit any of us from ever seeing really FUN space combat... I'm getting off track...

This, having to run around babying mining units every day to keep your head afloat thing... has to change. There's got to be longer periods of time that these systems can run before we have to check on them again. The math's all there to shift L/h productivity, calibration deflation, and charge capacity to basically keep the same overall productivity rates, and move to a timeframe that is more like a once-weekly chore, and not a daily chore. I would really like to spend my time in the game creating content for this universe and exploring it, and not stuck to my small number of tiles that require daily upkeep.

I'm not even that upset that it looks like, based on the number, and rate of charge calibrations I now have, it seems like I'll never even spread out beyond my 5 tiles, due to not being able recalibrate the number of mining units it takes to sustain 6/7+ territories... I'm more upset that my (precious to me) game time consists of replaying the same mini-game/algorithm 6-9 times before I can do anything else. I used to be able to hang out in my space station for a week or two and make upgrades.. In this system, with the tax system, I'm afraid I'll be stuck to my same tiles, trying to save up for my two week vacation, like a 1970's career man, while being too afraid to spare the gas to even make it to orbit, let alone the warp cells to travel the star system.. again, far too afraid to take my chances of loosing a large ship to any type of PVP encounter

I know there's players that can spend copious amounts of time in a game like this, and become dominant giants if resources are too plentiful, but I'd honestly love to see some of these players giant builds, and giant wars, fueled by their riches. Whatever the changes, I hope NQ errs on the side of giving players the tools, resources, and time, that we need to build this universe.

The whiners thing, definitely not cool, especially as a jab to others with different opinions. What got under my skin was the math thing, and not that he could have known this but I struggled with math in high school with D's and F's, on top of high school being a pretty much a fight for my life each day which was a huge contributor to my low grades. Hard to learn in an environment where you don't feels safe.

Before anyone follows up with remarks about me exaggerating the hardship I was literally assaulted with weapons several times in my life, told to go kill myself etc. Lots of physical and verbal/emotional abuse in my life, which created a lot of the anger issues I struggle with today.

That said we should probably all think about what we say to people, cause you don't know what they are going through or have been through.

Update: So I did the things recommended....

    - HQ'ed tiles I wanted to keep
    - Moved to Space
    - Tried going back to Sanctuary.
    - Reduced My Expectations
    - Even used a Beta Key to try restarting new...

I can no longer enjoy this game in the current state. There are jobs I have hated that were more exciting then the daily logins to Nanny your Mining Unit. Until the developers change the Mining Units or implement a new way to progress in the game there is no point in playing. I gave this update a try, I took all of the advice, and the progression rate which was already abysmal is now unbearable.

I love this community and the people in it, even those I disagree and fight with but I just can't DU it any longer. Not until they fix things, which is unlikely, cause they don't care if players leave.

    Original Post:
I will be taking an extended and potentially permanent break from DU.
If you see me log in, it will be to kick (calibrate) mining units, post a haul mission, and sell things so I don't lose tiles.

It is clear the developers don't respect the players or their time, and if the tax situation doesn't get fixed with the falling ore prices, no point in owning tiles to earn a little more than break even.

    Also Sanctuary sucks...

( will be placing everything of value on HQ tiles to ensure no one scalps my stuff.)

Update: Making this clear this is a sanctuary tile with ore not respawning.

    Unhappy as well..

The need to login every day to recalibrate my mining units is making me question whether I finally give the game up.. I was hoping they would relieve the boring part of the game, in order for us to be able to focus on building the exciting parts, but since the update, every time I log on, I play the same mini game 6-9 times, and then question what I'm doing with my life and free time. I really think the answer, to my problem with the update at least, is to shift the timeframe we need to recalibrate things from a daily chore to weekly or bi-weekly chore. The thought of needing to login every day to play the same mini-game is killing my desire to anything else in the game.

I believe this community deserves some acknowledgement for those who have stayed through all the choices of NQ.

Some here don't seem to get it and just call us "bitter veterans" but we knew what the game was like before some of these changes (the good and the bad), and though we may raise some hell, we do it cause we love the game.

My major concern is that the number of players willing to sit by and wait for another few years dwindles with every stunt NQ pulls that shows their disrespect and disregard for the community. We have been placed in limbo on prospects of a wipe, which honestly I am pretty sure is going to roll out in 2022 at this point if they decide to rush to "launch" before 2023 due to funding issues.

I speak from experience in development myself and I've never put a customer through this roller coaster. They have a community expectations management problem, because they themselves lack the ability to gauge of what they can and can't deliver on.

"The era of trust us we know better than you" needs to come to an end cause we have some super smart people in this community.

The developers need to be honest and state the reality of where things are at not a propaganda vlog/video/newsletter.
What they are confident they can do before release. What they want to try but aren't sure if it will work. What we want that isn't going to happen before release. The conditions for a wipe scenario, and conditions for a no wipe scenario.
Wipe or no wipe I don't mind as long as I have a relative idea what to expect (a deadline for when, what would be wiped, etc). This gives me as the player the ability to choose okay do I need to wait a bit, or how to play in a way I am okay losing all progress, or am I falling behind others by waiting?

    1. Please make HQ tiles 7 vs. 5 so that way if we need to take a break we can maintain a bonus constellation of hexes if we can't be online to mine it for extended period of time. 5 seems like an arbitrary number out of kneejerk response to appease all the players with torches and pitchforks. 7 on the other hand creates a function & aesthetic number of tiles that feels complete, and allows players to take breaks in case you know their parents has cancer, or they lose their job, or both of these things at the same time.... kind of stuff in life.

    2. Make recalibration & drop off after 7 days not 2... (keep the current recharge rates/cap etc.) If I have to login every day to spend my charges, I don't want to do it to nanny the same mining unit I just nannied 48 hours ago, to simply maintain efficiency rates. Some of us can only play on weekends, and work several jobs, so it feels like a punishment for being responsible in real life.

Im sorry, but 10 hours to rebuild an m-core? I think YOU are trolling.
Even with the ore present, you would still have to fabricate the elements. On a decent m-core that would be at least 10 L engines for atmo alone. Never mind the other elements.
An L-core takes 3 days to produce and thats just the core.
Impossible to do in 10hrs. I would say. I have lots of L and XL containers, please tell me the amount of elements you have and do a realistic calculation of how long it will take you to rebuild them. Your base, storage, ships.
Im sure it will take you at least a month of subscription.

So it seems you dont mind paying for a game and waste your time doing the same stuff twice. Thats not something for me to be doing. My time is precious to me.

Its these 'positive lies' of players like you that try to convince people that the game is still simple, easy and the same as NQ is advertising, while it is not.
This mining system is only nice if you are into making money.
If you entered this game a year ago to be an artistic builder, then the game has now changed for the worse.
    That is a fact.

We all know from the Kickstarter that even straight up promises hold little value, and that the narrative from NQ will change as it suits them.

But NQ's unwillingness to give a clear answer about a wipe, shows that they know they have made certain expectations (look mum! I did not use the word promise!) when they soft-released the "beta". And that breaking those expectations will come with consequences.

Another thing to consider is that there is little reason to think that a release in a years time, will be for a proper finished game. So how long will it take before people start talking about needing another wipe even after release?

So the question then I guess, is how much distrust from players NQ think they can get away with in the long run?

You are not getting the point

In order to bring a scanner you must bring a ship as you can't carry one around in your inventory.

So for a new player, they really have no chance to ensure they start spending millions on securing a tile that is worth the money unless they invest a _lot_ of money upfront.

    A territory scanner
A ship able to transport it
    A Territory Unit
a XS static core at least
    somevoxel material
    5 basic L mining units
1.5M Quanta to secure a tile and pay first week of taxes

That's probbaly a good 12-14 million at least before you ever even make a cent

EDIT: more like 4-5 million currently.. does not really change the point though

Creator reacted to Warlander in Now that we have Taxes NQ needs to use the system to charge people parking at markets Rent or Parking Fees by core.
The markets have always been a mess and it is now time to use the tax system and adapt it to become a parking meter type rent based system to start charging people per week for parking at markets parking fines.

There are many reasons to park a t amarket be it to drop a box cluster for easy market access and storage, safety if you dont own tiles on a planet, just parking at a market, or new players opperating out of a market trying to build a base.

It is time to start charging by the core:
XS core = 50,000h per week per core S core = 100,000h per week per core M core = 150,000h per week per core L core = 200,000h per week per core XL core = 250,000h per week per core when it comes out.
Markets have always needed a mechanic to clear out all the trash and scripts running and all the elements bogging down markets from people who actually genuinely neeed/want to use them. And there is no reason not to charge people trying to sell ships or kill performance running scripts in multiple markets or having box clusters.

And wether you fail to pay and your ship gets packed into a golden BP, your ship becomes abandoned, or failing to pay restricts access to the market for not wanting to pay something needs to give to clean out markets that is long over due.

But also NQ should create ship dealership type markets to specifically buy ships in order to also free up the markets.

    Its NQs weird logic.

Why should I have to claim a tile I will just turn around and mine for a week, steal the constructs and everything in the tile and then pick up and let it rot at the end of the week since im not intending to pay the taxes on the tile if that is the intended goal. If it is just sitting abandoned it should be totally lootable.

Its like the graveyards I mean markets where there are pretty much thousands upon thousands of constructs that need to disapear via salvaging since they are mostly abandoned at this point but you cant claim a market and NQ does not charge any of the cores rent with the new tax system to make them abandoned.

And the whole premise of salvaging dead constructs is pointless for the most part if you are litterally kicking people out of the game that NQ needs subs to keep going. Its the dumbest thing you can do if you want players to come back at some point if the game starts turning around. That is unless there is a full wipe and the stuff didnt matter in the first place which is the only card NQ has left to play to potentially bring people back.

Especially if you consider NQ could spawn any element that has a mesh onto the ground including any blueprint of any ship in the game at any time. It would be much better to find elements on the ground instead of rocks as pure metals, chunks of scrap, parts, damaged parts, or full ships.

NQ just likes to take the easiest dev solutions with no forethought of what they are creating or the impact on the game it has.
