There should be no reward without risk, I think if they claim abandoned land they should even pay extra without knowing what is in the piñata.

Speaking as someone who has very limited time to play the game, please implement the "safe" tiles with Demeter. I don't want to spend my entire play session every week just making sure I don't lose my tiles.

What is loot without any risk? Its fake content.
Maybe NQ thinks they can gain few players by promising cheap loot paradise.

This Territory TAX - change of rules after persistent world launch is extremely bad Game Design.

If people wanted this type of gameplay they would still play EVE.

The question is, how many of those inactive tiles are players just waiting for a game that is fun to play?
To me at least, it seems for sure that a much higher percentage of them will never return and cancel the subscription once they start losing tiles for not being good citizens and playing the game at the frequency and style dictated by NQ.

If Aphelia forgets to pay taxes, does that mean I can grab all her territories and markets and become an Evil Overlord like her?

Disclaimer, I don't actually think this is going to happen.

But if we are going to start looking for worst case monetization schemes, I could easily see a situation where you suddenly had an option to pay for the territory tax with real money. They would probably package it into something more manageable and easy to swallow for players like the DAC, but still.

Then this is fixed in short. with these fun taxes and people losing their stuff most people who were once told they would never loose their stuff after its build unless warfare happened will probably leave, or just camp at the sanctuary for ever. in both cases, gameplay dies.  Fun to see that those who exploided for billions will again get the better in this next downgrade

It looks like claiming a new territory costs a flat 140k and it gives you 3 days tax free. It would cost you 2x+ more in calibrate charges but could be used if ore prices crash and cannot maintain 1m a week.

I noticed Sinnen now has limestone instead of malachite- not sure if there are any other changes.

I think airbrake clearance zone should be a few tiles outside of the visble area of the element so we can continue to completely cover them but would still need to be near the outside and not stacked. The requirement of having them be on the outside ruins the look of many ships and makes all ships look the same.

I would like the idea of making a new territory unit item. Keep current Territory units the same- scaling claiming cost and no taxes- but lock mining to those tiles. The new territory unit would cost the flat fee and allow mining but needs taxes.

This is just NQ standard procedure.

The only time they listen is when players start actually leaving, and then they act all surprised and are like "we are listening and are going to fix this shortly".
Followed a couple of months later by some quick-fix that always is something completely different from community suggestions, and brings lot's of unplanned collateral damage to the game. And the players that left are still gone, so the damage is done..

But that would be the second (third depending how you look at it with pre-releases)  time they try this. There was already a beta soft-release (which is reality was an alpha by any normal definition), and they got no where other then dropping players like flies and burning bridges.

So what has changed this time? Judging by how they are handling Demeter, nothing has really changed and NQ is still the same NQ as always. Meaning that the "release" will only be a repeat of the "beta" soft-release.

And if by some miracle it is not the death of DU, the type of game and players left will be something very different from what it was supposed to be (even more like EVE and less and less like DU the persistent MMO universe).

@Kobayashi I just answered you in the other thread, but I will do the same here also.

NQ has strongly hinted that the game will be released by the end of this year. So Demeter going live is pretty much going to be the "finished" game they are going to release.
Is the game ready to be released? No, not even close. But as mentioned, NQ has been going in circles for many years now, and they are running out of money.

    NQ: We want your feedback!

Players:  Ore yields are too low, taxes too high. Here are several different ways to make this update viable.

NQ: PTS Open again! With no changes to anything players were worried about not being changed.

I mean, I have to give credit where credit is due, they are freaking experts at just ignoring feedback and pushing things anyways.

    My question:
What is the purpose for taxes. Why are they implemented into game?
    Second question:
What is the new and interesting gameplay loop which taxes generate?

The whole idea of Beta-Soft launch was to enable players to create content before 1.0 launch.
That were basically that we players did work in favor for NQ creating content for their game. Nice thank you, these new taxes.

How this need to move assets to Sanctuary or space fit into that.

Really an important point. Building factories was fun. They could have balanced the mechanic without making the engaging aspects so tedious, but they never listened to their players telling them "hey, this is fun, please don't nerf this entirely". Instead of adding depth to create balance, they removed depth.

Personally, I also liked the exploration required to seek out nodes -- even though I wasn't a fan of the mining mechanic itself (they didn't have to bury ore so deep...no one forced them to do that).

It wasn't the best sense of adventure and discovery, but it gave me something to use my ship for...since I find combat in DU really dull, clunky, and poorly balanced. If I want a real PvP experience I play a competitive PvP game built by people with a much better sense of game design. DU isn't that, not yet.

With Demeter, my ship is a train to move shit to and from a market. Is there any real need to leave my tile? To mine asteroids and that's pretty much it?

Also, trickle down economics isn't really a thing.

Someone can pull billions of quanta out of the game and most of it will sit in their wallets forever or get dumped into schematics. It doesn't always circulate.

So...if NQ balances the game for the wealthy, established players it has now, it creates a feedback loop where it becomes harder and harder for new players to get established...that old wealth doesn't go anywhere, it rots in wallets and evaporates as accounts unsub or through taxes.

But it was at least possible to build and run large factories just for fun - to optimize it for maximum efficiency, speed or flexibility and than to see everything running as planned. NQ killed that kind of gameplay because it doesn't fit to a vision of their game that will never become reality.

DU differs from EVE in one very important aspect. DU is/was supposed to be a persistent universe with unlimited terraforming and building.

And as such, there need to be some mechanism for solo players and small orgs to be able to step away from the game for some time, and NOT lose all the work they have put into building permanent bases etc.

As I see it, this is just another chapter in the build vs destroy balance problem, where a PvP'er can destroy in minutes something it took months for a builder to make. I.e the PvP'er wins by default, and the builders leave the game.
