vylqun got a reaction from TranquilClaws in Space Systems and Different Sky Boxes
i dont think there should be skyboxes, as someone already said, the sky isnt colorful, and most pictures of nebular are colored after they were taken because they just don't emit light in the visible spectrum.
I do hope we will have some nebular to actually explore them and thus see them in the night sky, but i wouldn'twant artifical textures of things that aren't present.

vylqun reacted to Archer in What city from a movie would you want to see recreated by players ingame?
Atlantis. Because the opportunity to build a flying city is not something to pass up.

nice trailer, makes me really happy that i'm in the alpha

vylqun got a reaction from Zen001 in Shields Please
Force fields, yes, but none with absolute protection, damage should increase the energy consumption and thus be able to break the shields if the energy runs low.

vylqun got a reaction from Obikawa in Quantum Multi-World as Means to Travel Faster than Light
No, they wouldn't slip through each other, as nora said, that drive, (which is btw. only mathematically possible if you ignore physics), works influencing the space surrounding the spaceship, anything that enters its sphere of influence would still interact with the ship inside.
I also don't get how your "quantum-multi-world" drive is supposed to function. Derived from your description its continous small teleportations, which in itself might be ok, but has nothing to do with (what i suppose you mean with "quantum-multi-world") the additional dimensions if you postulate a multiverse, but that just wouldn't work because you either are at the same location in space if you switch dimensions or at a completely different location, in both cases you would not archieve "small teleportations" while jumping between dimensions.
"The engine works by "enforcing reality" in a radius around it."
honestly, i'd rather have reasonable ftl-drives for dual universe, somethinq that you could find in hard-scifi, not some random things you would rather find in fantasy-scifi. the alcubierre is really close to the limit for that, but something like a reality overwriting drive definitely crossed that border^^

vylqun got a reaction from Kiklix in The Black Hole of Enthusiasm
the proper way would be not actively promoting the enthusiasm as long as no stable beta version is available and delivering regular updates/goals to the community to prevent to "extreme" speculations. As long as the community is healthy that'll be fine.

vylqun got a reaction from norab7 in Sub-Forum when you create guild.
especially as pre-beta guilds are usually short-lived, thus not worth the effort.

Its not in pre alpha and there is no alpha build out yet.

hm, 1,5km battlestations. will we be able to ram planets?

vylqun got a reaction from Atmosph3rik in Music
@Hylios
You could always create music ingame with lua scripted controls that activate different engines/joints etc.
May not be the same as a symphony of tchaikovsky, but will certainly sound interesting

That comment made me realize that we miss a thread where we post scetches and models of ships we may have already created or plan to do
So if anyone got some, show us. I'll probably try to digitalize my ideas too and post them here in near future

vylqun got a reaction from KlatuSatori in Dual Universe Lore (Part 5)
honestly, i'd rather have archaeologists find damaged items of any kind, which can be processed by scientists to learn the blueprint of some parts of that item, leading to slightly more efficient parts to build stuff with, improved capacitors etc. Or they can find new alloys, a "new old" combination of materials to create certain items which would improve the overall structure etc.
Maybe rarely still functioning items, but honestly, the chance to find still functional high tech items in ruins is not very feasable.

I like that idea very much, let players set up market units and spaces for sale/rent and as long as no player uses these slots they could be rented by more or less random npc shops.

vylqun got a reaction from Silvligh in Physics
i wouldn't make it that limited, after all the most important factor for speed is the design, if u build a medium class ship with 80% of its volume being the ftl engine then u can expect it to have a greater jumpradius than a large ship with a lot less (relatively) space allocated to it.
As for everything else the important factor is the mass of the ship/object vs. the poweroutput of the engine.
So if u want to create a short range ftl and mound a seat + a gun to it, then so be it. Have fun with your small ftl-able vessel.
That matter also reminds me on a certain race in the sci fi novel "Perry Rhodan" if anyone should know it. They had extreme short range ftl/teleport engines which only teleported the ship ahead for a few cm or m, but in such short intervalls, that the effective speed is way faster than the speed of light (which is a nice way to avoid that speedlimit without ignoring physics)

you could list the alpha testers on some kind of pioneers statue somewhere in the starting zone.

vylqun got a reaction from Michaelc in I have a questions about the game
as far as i remember we will have a single planet in the beginning where every player starts at, but the universe will be expanded continously
While you might be able to create a complete automatized and scripted industry on a planet yourself ( if' u're filthy rich and can play 100h/day) normaly those things will depend on a group of several players to realize. As for ur own army, maybe it will be possible to create simple completely scripted drones which automatically attack players without certain permissions, so u probably could defend an industrial area by urself (again, with a vast amount of ressources)

story-wise all players will arrive with similar arkships, giving everyone the same knowledge imparted to them by the AI, so it wouldn't be surprising if there is a common concept of currency, whatever it might be. Best would be some kind of currency with actual use, so we wont have a strong inflation over time.

vylqun got a reaction from Bella_Astrum in DevBlog: Multiplayer Ship Crew
i think that'll only be limited by ur surroundings and maybe statics

vylqun got a reaction from Michaelc in Player Perspective, support 'class'
immersive RP is good and nice, but it shouldn't impact basic game mechanics like camera control. I see no need to find an lore friendly explanation for being able to use 1st person and 3rd person views and especially none for a mandatory skillset if someone wants to use 3rd person.
