Words that make me look smart.

Expressions about my deep understanding of the game.

Defensive statements about my views on liberty and freedom.

Mockery of almost completely unrelated knowledge pertaining to dual universe.

Exiting statement about Freedom and making Dual Universe great again!!!

Every time I see this video I just wonder if Force Recon armors (like the force recon ships from EVE) are going to be a thing, cause I will definitely challenge what's considered "covert" with the might of my bright yelow, green  and pink colors.

" Well, sarge, I can't see anything on D-scan, but there's a sentient colorblindness test on the top of that hill..."

The helmets can be removed. So, you could remove your helmet.

There's mention of different armors, accessories and biosuits (possibly). Here's the Alpha Team outfit varient

There's no mention of clothing, only equipment. What we do know, is that we can adjust the colors of the equipment -- at least, for launch, further down the line it's up to the devs and the community to judge what's needed and what's not. I personally, suggest that traders have to wear clothing that gives them bonuses on tax reduction, just so we can assassinate them easily :|

Now, the arguement can be made of an Organisation Skin choice, with the orgs Colors being printed on your gear, however, given some things won't be yours per se, but of the org's the arguement could be made that the devs plan on allowing to manufacture items with a specific skin on them. After all, noone is going to go on ground combat operations, knowing they could be mawed down repeatdly until they got an objective, only to have to pay for said gear themselves, so it's safe to assume, some orgs may print their own color skins on weaponry / geart and colors.

Now, why a pirate would want to wear a decal that identifies them as a pirate, that's beyond my mortal wise reasoning to decypher. I'd be wearing Terran Union's Strike Command armor, taken from one of their soldiers, board a ship, and let the confuzzled victims blame TU for the business going down the way it did.

Nothing illegal. Kuritho's eyes must be playing tricks on him again. Although, I do say that the cause of those slight of the eyes might-- just might--be illegal. I'm insinuating, nothing at all.

It's off-topic, after all. Looking at it from a purely objective view, this off-topic thread is quite on the point.

As pointless as it may be...

It only ruins the economy if the centres of the economy are the places being destroyed.

And in converse, you can only sustain such a long total war when large industrial areas aren't being destroyed.

If organisations go into massive wars to fight over a few planets on the outskirts of their respective nations, there'll be a massive, long war. If one side manages to firebomb their enemy's industrial zones, expect the war to be short.

Halo381 got a reaction from Anaximander in Organization Types
I think Haunty means that this should be a community thing, not a NQ thing. Like the good Captain said, these are just semantics, but certain types of organizational structures imply an amount of power that a group may not have. For instance, a one man organization might call themselves an Empire, and no matter how many members they had, you'd get the impression of ambition. Alliance implies that each group that makes up it's membership follows the orders of a single, or a small number of leaders, whereas a Conglomerate implies that everyone has a bit more sovereignty than an alliance would. It's a small thing, but it makes me happy to see orgs distinguishing themselves as one or the other.

Halo381 got a reaction from Anaximander in Collision Damage: Do we REALLY need it?
Uh, no..... If that were the case then I could just deactivate the core mid-combat and suddenly my velocity is zeroed out, don't even have to brake. Then I reactivate my core once the guy chasing me has flown by. That also means that if no one is in the pilot's seat, the ship can't move, which means if someone has to leave in the middle of a fight, you're a sitting duck. Not to mention it makes autopilots kinda pointless.

From what I understand, deactivating the core and landing your ship are not always gonna be the same thing. Which is good. Being able to turn off your ship's systems and run dark in hopes that your enemies' sensors won't pick up your signature would be a viable tactic, not to mention it can be used to save power, if you're low on fuel. In this event, your ship would keep moving in whatever direction you had it moving before you turned off the power core, until it hits something, which is as it should be.

To land, would basically be to attach a smaller object to a larger object. To do so the objects velocities would have to be zeroed out relative to each other. or close to zero. Then they combine and move as one object, with the larger object being primary to the smaller object, so that the small ship's engines don't fire when the carrier it's on moves. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this)

Why should there be this distinction?

Because, like Twerk said, there are Static Cores, and Dynamic Cores. Just because you power down an object with a dynamic core does not suddenly make it a static object. Whatever inertia it had before it was powered down, it retains. As it should.

Uhm.. you seem to confuse localised grids and planetary grids. The Devs do not want collisions, because of the issue with planets constantly rotating.

I made my suggestion on the matter a long time ago. Instead of physics based collisions, add reactor instabilities and overloads, You bump one too many times (or at very high speeds), you explode (as you should), due to your capacitor on your ship overloading, thus exploding. Which meakes larger battleships more stable, by virtue of having multiple capacitors / power cores, that require more crew, with each capacitor even dedicated in one aspect of the ship.

This guarantees that a star-fighter colliding with a battleship at max speed will pop, but it also guarantees that the star-fighter has a huge margin of "bumps" when it lands on a carrier, or a planet, as it goes much much slower (and planets do not move).

Also,as you may think this, you do understand carriers do not actually have to move much in a battle, right? They are dreadnaught sized ships that carry fighters instead of more guns. So yeah, a star-fighter landing on a very very slow moving carrier, is not gonna overrule the bumps mechanic as of speed.

Beyond that, auto-pilots will land your fighter, you won't have to do it manually, at least, not in a FLIPPING military grade star-fighter.

The reasons such a mechanism is needed, is so do not crash land anywhere all the time. I mean, why do I even need a smmoth approach on a planet, when I can simply grind my ship to a halt without having to worry if I explode?

Heck, the Overload mechanism could be even a formula of change in velocity (DV), and how much of a ratio of it a reactor can withstand before it starts Overloading from the strain of the decceleration.

See, the real problem with the collisions, lies in the fact that people think collisions should be about voxels connecting to voxels, and said contacts altering those voxels. That's the part that takes up server RAM, as the server has to calculate collisions for EACH individual voxel.

MY suggestion, only takes into acout mass, decceleration and power core / capacitor "strength".

Which evidentally, is not ultra realisitc, but guess what happens if two metric megatonne battleships collide in space. You guessed it, they evaporate. There's no wreck left behind for the server to have to calculate damage done to voxels.

    Cheers!

Well, All we know is that We all start on the same planet. We'll likely be able to see maybe a moon, or possibly another planet, but beyond that, until somebody makes space travel, no one will have any idea where anything else is. To get out of the system, we'll have to build the stargates.

Honestly, I find it really exciting to have absolutly no clue where any other planets are until we discover it. Imagine. You're one of the first ones to make a spaceship. Others have been looking for Planet #2, but nobody can find it. You're out exploring and stumble upon it. A whole new world, that thousands of others will colonize, mine, and fly to, all because you had the skills(luck?) to find it first. You'll be remembered forever, as the first person to set foot on a new planet. (Aside from whoever gets out of the inevitable rush to log in first and spawn on Alioth.)

    Hey all,

Some of you may recognise me from the ongoing Novawrimo contest, but if not then let me introduce myself.

"I'm a guy who likes to write! Hiii!"

But anyway, weirdness aside, I've just set up an Org called 'Writer's Guild' and would like to invite anyone who is interested in continuing to write some fan-fiction for Dual, or fiction in any form, to take a look.

I'm not an amazing writer, but I've been doing it for a while, so I would like to offer my help towards any that want it, and encourage others to do the same. What I hope for is a close-knit group of people sharing and writing and reading each others work, providing good feedback, and growing as writers and individuals.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes.

    Thanks for your time,

Before Dual Universe I spent countless hours scouring the internet looking for -that- game. I think many other people know exactly what I'm talking about. -The- game that would tie you down and keep you immersed for hours, where you could live in a virtual world and be part of something bigger, where you could build your dreams and be part of a whole other universe.

I was feeling rather down, depressed or sad take your pick, in the months before I learned about DU from E3. I was feeling kind of burnt out about things happening in projects I was involved in (I was a dev on Bitcoin Classic) and just generally was very mopey. I wasn't sure what else was going to come along that would suck me in and make me feel like I could contribute in any meaningful way.

When I discovered DU I was ecstatic, and I don't think there was a grain of pessimism inside of me. As soon as I saw the trailer, as I'm sure others can attest to, I knew exactly what it meant for gaming as a whole (especially sandbox gaming) and I just knew what it was NovaQuark was attempting to create.

I don't think I've been as happy in a long time, being part of DU Explorers, flying out to PAX to meet JC at the NQ booth, getting to be involved in various happenings here and there, everything Dual Universe has been a very positive experience in my life this year.

Lately, I've been feeling down again. I don't know if it's because of the lack of interest in getting people to be on DU Explorers for another episode (we haven't had one in 3 weeks...) or if it's seasonal or something else entirely. I couldn't even bring myself to write anything for NovaWrimo with all the back and forth banter and arguments between different organizations. I'm just exhausted.

I'm sure things will turn around here after the new year. Although, unless I can get another episode of DU Explorers together soon, I think I'm going to be taking a break from DU for a few weeks.

Regardless of all of that, which are purely my own problems, I think the main purpose of this was for me to say thank you to NovaQuark and Happy Holidays to everyone there for everything that you're doing for us.

Even in these early stages of development, what you're doing has had a special impact on hundreds if not thousands of people. I don't think anyone here will disagree that you're doing something that has changed our lives forever.

Between all the new friends we've all made, and all of the excitement we've been able to be a part of (Kickstarter was a nerve-wracking blast), we've certainly come a long way and it feels like we're not that far away from actually being able to interact with each other in-game.

    Thank you NovaQuark.

Halo381 got a reaction from decom70 in Joint Syndicate Defense Force
Hello there! I am Halo381, and I am the Admiral governing the Joint Syndicate Defense Force, or JSDF for short. Many people wonder as to what exactly the JSDF is. Let me explain: the JSDF is a mutual defensive coalition between the Member Organizations of the Cinderfall Syndicate. Our job is to protect the assets of the Cinderfall Syndicate Member Organizations when they are unable to. If all of your defenders are offline, you need but call and we’ll send a force to assist you in defending the facility until your defenders return from their real lives. Every Member Organization is offered this protection. All we ask is that you give us some of your time in return. The JSDF needs members, from both within the CSYN Member Organizations, and from individuals unaffiliated with any other org. Our gates are open; all you need do is enter.

If you are already a member of the Cinderfall Syndicate, then I will be pinning a form to the Discord channel. If you are not a member of the Cinderfall Syndicate, then I’d like for you to join. Our Discord channel is open to all, and if you have any questions about the Syndicate, they can be answered there.

NOTE: If you initiate a conflict, it’s up to you to finish it. The JSDF is not here to fight your wars for you, it’s here to give you peace of mind while you’re away from your computer.
