With the new elements produced the person / org can now have the option to reverse engineer again destroying the improved elements to have a chance of gaining yet another upgraded schematic with the same stat resulting in +20% HP or another stat maybe improved, for example on an engine you may now get a schematic result of +10% HP & +10% max thrust. This process can be repeated again and again until a game cap on the schematic is reached of +50% stats across the board. Great this engineer now has a game capped schematic to produce the best engines possible, but it cost them a good few hundred or couple thousand elements to get there!
This is a very good idea
however, it conflicts with recycling aspect of the game to some degree.
But I do see it's use in DU.
Really I thin, if NQ goes the cheap and easy route they should just make most of the T-1 elements up to medium sized items require no schematics or at least make those schematics all available on alioth
Then provide a streamlined and easy way for people to access them. In addition to an indicator letting them know they can get most of the T-1 stuff at the markets but anything higher will require them to travel off world... using the T-1 elements made on alioth.
The monster of .23 schematics is here so now the best the to do is for NQ to reconfigure it so it sits better with the community's ability to grow.
Right now, it's too steep of a learning curve for the newbies and too strict of a game limitation that breaks more newbies than makes them.
As a result, the population dwindles.
Even if none of these ideas are adopted, one thing most of us can agree on is that the way schematics limit progression for new people in DU needs to change drastically.
Otherwise DU won't hit those Beta launch numbers ever again.

Given that NQ are swamped attempting to figure out how they're going to turn this game around with each release I doubt they'll have the free time to assist.
If they do then it'll do them some good to get points with their salty community.
... that's just me from a community member perspective...

nq fixed bugs, added wallets, and are polishing missions, just cool it and wait or there is the door
I'm giving it time.
The number of bad signs in DU, the NQ company and the response of the community and known streamers with NQ people either abandoning ship or getting kicked out from $$ or mismanagement events just reinforces the position.
I, like many others, offered up suggestions to help NQ's development (outside of the energy management posts) only to see them withdraw further into the dark and sneak an update push to the community with nearly ZERO headsup... speaks volumes about where they're at.

how very dare you Demlock, I'm sure alot of some ones weekend went into removing the roughness from the voxel textures and downloading all those grass jpegs, they probably even spent at least ten minuets pressing copy paste to make them seem randomly distributed.
Ok then maybe I should backtrack a little and think like NQ:
They should give the project management person paid leave for 3 months to think about what he did wrong and have him come back with a raise in his/her paycheck in hopes of doing better next patch...

We really don't need a repeat of .23 but with the communication being so sparse, It's concerning. Servers just went down so taking bets on what's broken and to what degree it's broken when they come back up.
reminder that .23 let people BP any construct they owned regardless of drm among other issues. That took a week to fix so rip ship sales back then
.24 may not be .23 ... and it didnt make the game worse.... it just didn't make the game better

What can I say that others haven't already...
how much more can one out of a growing number of people drive the point home that NQ's management is just ... about the worst thing that's happening to this game.
of all the things to put your efforts on, it had to be better GFX, prettier rocks, a jet pack toggle...
Things that are nice to have instead of the shit that the game needs to turn it around?

Somehow, I feel like because they felt compelled to listen to the carebears about making a PTS server for them NQ is unable to support a public facing staff... or they're just in the hole entirely.

We've seen nothing that indicates 0.24 will be any "savior" patch. Or any real new content. The org wallet will just get people to get their Quanta stolen now instead of assets. The mission system isnt even close to being fully implemented. Unless they are hiding something, but even if they are does no good when the servers literally dont work in a 1v1 pvp situation.
The only way they have hope of stirring up any form of interest in the game is if they put in NPC generated PVP missions into the mission system.
And even then it's a stretch to get any interest into it but still that's about the only thing I see anyone having an interest in doing anymore.
JC needs to realize that PVP is THE golden ticket to saving this fucking game.
It can look as pretty as it can be but if the mechanics are a pile of bullshit then you'll have a once excited community turning toxic ... like today.
That's really the only true way this shit has any hope of turning around now...again it's a BIG stretch but they NEED to make PVP better and DO FUCKING AVA for any of this shit to have a chance in hell of returning.
Quit listening to fucking carebears because they're going to be the death of this game.
What's funny is even the carebears are losing their shit now because the game is just that badly done.

When money runs out and targets are not reached, those banks/investors start executing the acquisition of that "collateral" they demanded.
When this happens, it becomes a legal issue, to try to do something with the project.
Even informing us can become liability.
Further incentive to just leave really...
I dunno how No Man's Sky Pulled out of their downward spiral but I don't think this game will be able to recover from where it's heading.
The loss of soo many PR people the complete blackout in communications ZERO transparency and overall number of problems mentioned just... do nothing but disappoint.

With each passing day I resent this game more and more because of ... well.. everything... I don't even know if I can hang on till .24... because to me, them pushing out a successful 0.24 is like a man painlessly passing a kidney stone the size of a paintball.

It's safe to say that after seeing the gross negligence and poor management execution NQ has experienced that this game is better off getting sold off to someone who can actually get the job done. The absolutely fucking dumb restrictions of NQ putting on their public facing people thinking it's a great idea to withhold transparency THAT THEY PROMISED have just only added to the internal inherent issues going on within the company.

I just don't know what moron thinks it's a great idea to just completely disavow their own community by NOT SAYING A FUCKING WORD!
NQ the more we ask for better connection and communication the more in the dark you go.
-
So...
The biggest growing problem in DU right now is the fact that NQ has done little to properly nerf warping.
This is NOT a call to make warping more expensive...
This is more of a signal to NQ to either reduce the safezone of planets, or make warpdrives drop you off about 5-10 su outside of a planet's safezone that's NOT inside the Thades, Alioth, Madius bubble
There's been a growing number of complaints about how warpdrives really kill the game in many respects even though it's a huge time-saver, it completely removes the risk factor from the game.
In addition, since there's no way to interdict someone and force them out of warp, this really gives no reason for PVP to take place naturally in game.
Suggestion:
The system might be nice.. however some suggestions for the NPC generated missions:
-
There needs to be two types of missions
-
Warp capable - Allows a person to warp the package without fear of the mission being terminated
- The shorter the distance, the less quanta a person will make
- The shorter the distance, the less valuable the package
- The greater the distance, the more valuable the package
- The greater the distance, the more costly it will be to ship/warp (meaning the weight will be increased... thus you add balance to the game)
-
Non-Warp Capable - If the hauler warps the package from one location to another the mission is automatically terminated
- BY DEFAULT these missions are exponentially more valuable than warp capable missions on a factor of 3 or 4
- The shorter the distance, the less quanta a person will make
- The shorter the distance, the less valuable the package
- The greater the distance, the more valuable the package
- The greater the distance, the more costly it will be to ship/warp (meaning the weight will be increased... thus you add balance to the game)

-
NPC generated missions need to be more plentiful
- The community is not lively or active enough to support hundreds or thousands of available missions.

BOO has a real activity problem and can't seem to keep their members playing, their actual presence in space is very rare. They can field the numbers to put out a fleet every month or so.
I hope the event encourages more BOO members to play and stop resorting to discord and forum shit posting. it would be nice have an enemy that's an actual threat.
I can agree with you on a few things here.
Yes, BOO with respect to DU has a serious activity issue because when 0.23 came along we made the choice to spread out into other games to maintain the BOO community since DU was in serious depression (in more ways than one).
Now our solution has in turn become both a blessing and a curse. Because some games that our members have trickled into have vested interests (in terms of time and money... that could've went to NQ). So returning to DU, even if it makes a comeback, will be a tough choice in where they spend their time.
The current mechanics that exist in the game:
- do not cater to Exploration in any form
- Are poor from a PVP perspective
- Are bugged to high hell which further pisses people off at times
- Are incredibly imbalanced
- Are too restrictive in ways it shouldn't be
BOO at large has not rejoined DU in massive numbers but we're watching and waiting for NQ to put up a legitimate release that makes PvP worth engaging in and makes the game actually fun.
Not some release that makes the game feel more like work and less enjoyable.
The Event did help to bring some of us back into the game... but it may be brief... who knows. Really... deep down... we're happy that the community gave us something to destroy. However, the frequency of these types of events are not enough to keep us glued to DU for longer than a week.
As other members have said, the MAIN thing we care about is PVP. To expect anything else from us would be foolish. If PVP in one game is shit then we'll leave and find PVP elsewhere.

The fact that this one forum post... in the span of 36 hours has gained more salt, hype, attention and fire than most other posts in the past 5 weeks says a lot about PVP and why NQ should really make it better.
It is the milkshake that brings all the boys to the yard in day light
It would make DU better.... Damn right

Without AVA cities are useless. Territory warfare would be better off with locking buildings/cores and playing Gwent (it's free now, CDPR got a bunch of their source code leaked).
Don't give them any more shit ideas bud hahahahha

Usually when there's territorial warfare, the act of capturing a base may start from the air or very far away. As time goes on the Area of interest may become contested by various means.
However, at the end of the day, capturing anything terrestrial usually ends with ground forces... This being tanks to weaken a base and the internal dirty work being done by foot soldiers who will get into CQC situations to capture the buildings of the base.
The fact that NQ brought up territorial war fare when there's been little to no conversation of AvA worries the absolute crap out of me.
As in, atmospheric combat... I'm afraid... because there's no AvA... will result in yet another poorly executed patch release that will do little to bring back the community if the 0.24 and 0.25 patches actually get pulled off well enough.
I'm sorry to break this to you NQ but if you instill territorial war fare without AvA the PvP crowd... the literal thousands of people who are waiting for this game to add in the true aspects that they're willing to throw their money at, will not get on board. Adding AvA AFTER launch will just add more fuel to the fire in ways NQ doesn't need especially when NQ is already in deep need to start generating some real cash-flow during beta.
As far as Territorial war fare PVP goes, AvA is absolutely critical and is the final stage of capturing land.
To add in Territorial war fare and NOT have AvA with at least pistols and rifles would be like building a car but leaving out the engine.
You want to bring in the money from the EvE crowd when adding in territorial warfare? Don't half-ass it. Do it right and as thoroughly as you reasonably can or you'll just get more bad publicity keeping the gaming crowd (and their money) away from DU.

So I hear JC got fired?
in General Discussions
Posted
If we don't get any press release or statement from either of them then I suspect the worse for DU.
If the guy taking over has a history in finance and not really in game development then I believe he'll look at calculating the risk-to-reward of pushing development of the game vs. Selling the tech to Microsoft.
Which one would yield the most money and over X amount of quarters and years.
SWAT analysis of keeping the game up and probability it would succeed if they changed up how they ran it's production.
If JC gives his response and not the new guy, then DU's in for some rough rode
If the New guy gives a press release and not JC, then DU may have a chance because it shows the new guy fully intends on making DU a success.
