XBOX ONE OR XBOX SCORPIO PLEASE?!?!

Recommended Posts

I much rather play on controller than PC so maby some how you could cross- platform the server to Xbox One or at least Xbox Scorpio when it releases. I think it would bring a big crowd of people to your game if you did.

I can plug my controller into my pc.

Also, by the time DU is into a full release of the game (After alpha, closed beta, open beta) Xboxone will be fairly retired.

However if  you have kept up with microsoft's recent updates, they are starting to make "Xbox" games playable on the PC and forwards / backwards compatable with the console.

Really? I always knew Xbox system is similar to Windows ang game conversion isn't so difficult (if game is prepared for easy control like Subnautica), but I didn't suspect MS can afford such reckless move. Maybe black box next to my TV will be something more than rather ugly deco-furniture.

Do you know if steam along with steam games are going to be compatible as well?

Being powered by DirectX is not the same as having Windows OS good sir.

why should it?

"Why not? There are plenty of games that are playable on PS4 and PS3. Forcing the consumer to buy an Xbox Scorpio and dump his/her Xbox One just to play a game that costs a fraction of the price, is outright mean. The concern of the developers is to have people play and subscribe to their own game, not handle marketing for Microsoft's newest toy."

it takes development resources to no end, it requires a completely different development environment than a PC game, and it would also likely require a pretty deep rebuild of the engine to run on xbüchs at all.

then a ton of very specialised optimisation to run well on xbüchs. (heck the xbox one is processing wise in the same ballpark as my ancient six year old PC! and i got a small upgrade recently....)

optimisation thats better spent on optimising it for general purpose PCs.

im also pretty sure that you have to give a part of your revenue to microsoft to be allowed to sell it for the xbox at all.

lots of effort and cost to get a game running on a platform which isnt suited for the complexity of the game and where you even cant use some of the games features without additional tools (scripting, /farking text chat/ )

"Humour me. Many games were released on both PC, Xbox one, and Xbox 360, no? In the end, it's up to developers. I partially agree with your point though. Dual Universe, as an emergent MMO, is best suited for the PC platform. A large percentage of people that can afford Xbox Ones can equally afford computers that are more expensive and to hint at your point: better at running multiple processes. Some people might not create anything in the game, just fight and mine, others want to code, design and build. To each man, that which he prefers. To the developer, that which he deems convenient."

and now name me the games that were for (multiple) consoles /and/ PC that were made by an Indie Studio :P

also the engine upon which DU is built is not console capable, so they'd either have to (more or less) start over completely

Matey, Xbox has a lot of limitations. It may be based on a x86 processor, but that means jack in the long run. How would they be assigned hotkeys via LUA? Would they buy a keyboard for XBone or PS4? PSN and XBox Live already got latency issues (cause they're crap), would it help for an international MMO to be optimised and ran on those networks as well? And if they were forced to buy keyboards to man a large battleship, then I don't see the point of "me likes controller" arguement.

Plus, what Cornflakes said. The Unigine 2 engine is a HEAVY duty engine, which neither XBONE or PS4 can run properly and it's why the Unreal Engine 4 is having any success in the field, as it's optimised for those consoles. NQ had to ditch Unreal Engine 4 over Unigine 2, for them to do the things they wanted to be able to do. Just do a google search on Unigine 2, you'll understand what Cornflakes meant by his last comment that Unigine is "not console capable".

Erm... i ment that unigine literally cant run on consoles at the moment bdcause its not written for the different driver environment, and that you would have to rebuild it from the very bottom to make it run on consoles.

But your points are very valid, yes.

Maybe you can play cross platform with pc like roblox where you can play on mobile but play with pc gamers as well

But what I really would like to see, if DU will be available via steam that would attract more people into the community (look what happened to ksp and space engineers one they became available in steam)

Xbox one runs on a modified version of Windows 10, and before that it ran on a modified version of Windows 8. So your statement is true, but you're wrong. Xbox does run Windows.

Thats technically true.

But by that "technically true" playstation 3&4 run on "modified OSX".

(Both operating systems are offspring of BSD).

If there were no effort in porting, why arent all xbox games running on windows pc's? Or the other way around?

This game is aimed at having multiple fields inclusing politics and trade. And the console community is impatient in comparison (I know there are those who are but I'm talking in general). Console players are people who like to turn on their device and start playing for a few hours and leave. In dual universe you need to put in dedication and make sure everything you have is protected before leaving. A large portion of console players will also not understand the aspect of trading and politics and would rather make micro clans and destroy and raid other players creations. The community on PC is  used to the concept of MMO and RP to a degree while console players are used to fighting and FPS games, not saying that console players are all FPS gamers but a large portion joining will join for the whole idea of  PVP rather then the other aspects.
