  3. Dads of DU will be an offspring from the Dads of Destiny Europe Clan for the game of Destiny. I have been leading that clan on PS4 since beta of Destiny 1 and we are still going strong! The same camaraderie, friendly atmosphere, beer-and-pretzel jokes and cooperation to achieve something larger than the sum of its parts will be the foundation of this Organisation within Dual Universe. It's a place where the dads can find likeminded people. Where your brothers know what its like to have to interrupt your gaming session yet again because you need to change a diaper.   5. Hi everyone. Until now, we couldn’t manually manage (remove/promote) Legates in an organization easily on the administration side. Since Yesterday, we are able to use a feature simplifying considerably the process. As we already mentioned many times in the past, we (Novaquark) don’t want to involve ourselves in the management of organizations created by players. However, we are also aware that the current (and temporary) state of the management system contains obvious flaws. You know it. We know it. As this is still “work in progress”, we hoped that organizations creators will be reasonable enough to avoid abusing the well-known flaws of the system and would wait that all the rules are implemented before trying to sabotage other organizations. So we are going to state the obvious here: It’s ok to “play a bad guy” and use dirty tricks once all the rules are implemented. However, it’s absolutely not ok to start exploiting the flaws of a work in progress system: this is not “playing a bad guy”, this is just toxic behavior and trying to gain an advantage while not playing by the rules. That’s why - despite our will of non-involvement - we will make exceptions until the full implementation of the RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) for the Organizations. Why did we decide to intervene? Two reasons: 1) In the current state, a Legate has much more power than in the final system, due to the minimalistic mechanisms temporarily in place. If in the current system, any Legate has the right to promote a member to Legate status by himself alone, in the final system the default rights will be completely different: promoting a legate will be done only with a vote by majority rule, or the right to promote someone will be given to specific persons and not every Legate. 2) In the current state, a Legate cannot be demoted by any mean (even by the creator of an organization). In the final system, default configurations will allow to demote a Legate with a vote by majority rule. A Legate could also be demoted by specific persons who have been given the right (most probably by the Organization founder) to do so. How is this going to work? Each organization is going to have one "wild card": if there is a problem with the Legates in an Organization, you can contact the support team at support@novaquark. However, keep in mind we (Novaquark) reserve the right to intervene (or not) on a case by case basis. Example of a case where we will intervene: Some Legate using the flaw of the current temporary system to vandalize (or generate troubles in) an organization. Example of a case where we won’t intervene: Two organizations have merged in one, and now both creators of previous organizations want to mutually exclude each other from the organization. In this kind of case, we won’t remove anyone. We won’t favorize one creator above another. However, we will do our best to help finding a satisfying solution for both parties. As a global reminder: If someone finds a loophole in the rules in place (that may happen), and this loophole is used to generate trouble and spread a toxic behavior, we won’t stay idle watching the situation deteriorating.   15. I know that NQ doesn't have any kind of road map for wheels at this time. And while I'm sure that's based on their projections to having a stable single shard Universe. There have been other threads started about wanting wheels for the sake of having them but not too much linear thought down that line of what we would do with them beyond the obvious. So I propose (Assuming we get wheels and any other form of locomotion) we work towards having a Planetary scale race track! For those who have seen the Anime 'Redline' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH7eBCTu_eM There is a Race that is held in 3 teirs. Blue, Yellow, then Red 'Line'. At the highest class about a dozen racers have a ground race where the vehicles go sometimes several hundred miles per hour with the race lasting somewhere in the 1+ hours range. The main Idea for this race is primarily based on this anime. -A track would need to be built with crazy speed in mind, varying types of vehicle types and weight to power ratio classes. -So wheeled (if implemented), hover, *anti grav*?, skid, legs, possibly a flight type as well. -Could do a Newton output maximum with a weight minimum perhaps. Would like to know some feed back on if this would be something everyone would be interested in doing. Have all corporations and organizations large and small compete in this race that could impact the winner in a huge way. Vehicle designers could be awarded contracts for having their blueprints churned out by large military factions wanting the winning design. Drivers could be hired out based on skill shown in the lower brackets and be sought after by the highest bidder. There are tons of opportunities here! There are some key issues I'm sure I'm unaware of that could make or break this idea but wondered what everyone here thinks. (Please remember to be constructive with your criticism, if you think this is a terrible idea please detail it)
  16. We already know of a job system that will be added to DU, but what if we could extend this more? Think about if you are a Universal Leader and your general has command of over 100 or more ships and even more soldiers. Who's keeping track of them? How does one know their ranks. What if in the game there is a way to design a custom system with easy object movement and management in a way to design your own roster and rank system for players. There would also be a way to make multiple of them or add a 2nd folder to label Fleet Pilots or something with specific ranking. No one wants to keep track of that many players. The terran union for example already has 400 members. What if they all became soldiers with specific ranks. No one will want to keep track of them, where they work, who they work for. Having a easy roster/rank system for DU for organizations. No one wants 100 members in one discord group talking at once either to keep track of. There should also be a way to send specific mail to one from there and even ways to add a check up box. Having a checkup box activate if the owner of the roster adds one to send out to specific or all members of the roster to clear out anyone who has been offline or inactive for a specific amount of time. As usual, keep in mind this is how the organizations are planned to be implemented for the official release of Dual Universe, not for the Alpha. As it is still work in progress, some mechanics might change based on community feedback and/or for technical reasons. For the Alpha (currently planned for September), we will most likely have a basic version similar to what we currently have on the Community Portal*. Veteran MMORPG players will undoubtedly be familiar with the basic concepts of guilds and clans from other games so some of this information might feel like a review to you. However, we wanted to give a complete overview of Organizations so that even players new to Massively Multiplayer games would understand what Organizations are, the benefits of joining one, and why you might choose to create one. If you have friends who like building games but haven’t ventured into MMORPGs yet, then they might be interested in this Blog post. (*we are talking here of the current version on the Community Portal + an update scheduled to add a Super-Legate rank and many changes for Members and Legates rights) What exactly is an Organization in Dual Universe? It’s a Moral Entity able to: - accumulate “Quanta” (the in-game currency) - own Assets (Items and Constructs) - gather Player Characters under the same flag for a common goal. - create a hierarchy, with ranks and roles for all Player Characters gathered in it. - be a member of another Organization, just like a Player Character. What are the purpose and benefits of an Organization? - It enables players to accomplish greater goals than what a player could do alone: The ability to pool resources and in-game currency will help a lot. - It consolidates the continuity of a long-term project: Players can enter and leave an organization without heavily impacting long-term projects supported by the group. - It gives a political dimension to the game: Rights & Duties can be transferred from one Player to another, and Powers are decided by the Legates through a vote (if the Organization is a democratic one). - It legitimizes conflicts between several group of Players: This will enable members of different Organizations to fight between themselves and kill each other, without being the target of reprisal mechanics (like bounty hunting) if a war has been declared between the said Organizations. RDMS (Rights & Duties Management System) in an Organization: - Different actions can be done on each Asset: each possible action is defined as a Power. - Access to a Power on an Asset is given by a Tag. - Each Power has a list of Tags associated to it. - Each Player Character has a “wallet” of Tags. Here is a quick example illustrating the system: Here we have an Asset having 3 Powers: Use, Sell and Edit. The Organization is composed of 3 Player Characters: Alice, Bob and Warren. In this situation: - Only Bob can edit the Asset. - Only Warren can sell the Asset. - All three can use the Asset: 1) Alice can use the Asset through the Tag “alice” 2) Bob can use the Asset through the Tag “bob” and “squad1” 3) Warren can use the Asset through the Tag “squad2” But that’s not all: you will be able to create more complex administration rights by creating a hierarchy between Tags! Let’s say “stock_management” is the parent Tag of “ammo_management” and “raw_materials_management”. If a player has the Tag “stock_management” in his wallet of Tags, he will be able to use or manage any of the Organization’s Assets having the Tag “ammo_management” or “raw_materials_management” depending on which powers are associated with those tags. The Rights and Duties Management System is also used to create the Functions. A Function will contain various Tags defining an assignment. Let’s say that Warren gets the Function “President” in the Organization “MyOrg”. Now his Tag Wallet in “MyOrg” looks like as follow: As the President, Warren will have the ability to declare war to another Organization. A Treasurer will manage the Organization bank account , a Gunman will be able to use some (or even all) weapons and military Elements to defend the Organization, etc. Of course, we will provide standard, ready-to-use Functions such as President, Treasurer, Miner, Industrialist, Gunman, and Military Officer to save time and allow players to quickly get their Organization operational. Acting in your name or in the name of an Organization: A Player Character can be a member of several Organizations. Therefore knowing whether they are acting on their own behalf or on behalf of an Organization (and which one) is very important. We call “Role” the state where a Player Character represents an Organisation (or just himself). By default, a Player Character has at least the Role where he can represent himself. Under each role, the Player Character has a Tag Wallet. When a Player Character is accepted into an Organization, the Player Character automatically gets an additional Role where he can represent the Organization. While under the Role representing the Organization, all the actions can affect the Organization. For example: - Receive Quanta on behalf of the Organization: Quanta are transferred to the Organization - Craft an Element: the Element is owned by the Organization (not the Player) as a result. - Harvesting resources: The resources are owned by the Organization (not the Player) as a result. Example: After declaring a war that displeased most of the members in “MyOrg” (which has a democratic system), Warren has been demoted from his function of President and kicked out (Warren, what have you done? You should have consulted your guildmates before doing that!). He has now joined a new organization, “Corpo1”, as a miner and has just discovered he can act in the name of “Corpo1” or act just for himself. In the windows where he could choose his active Role for the time being, it will look a bit like this: However, keep in mind this is a simplified view of the Tags: as it will probably become quite common to have the same name for a Tag in different Organizations, the Tags will be “scoped” to avoid conflicts. Let’s say Warren is accepted again in “MyOrg” and gets the Tag “miner”, just like in “Corpo1”. To avoid conflicts, the Tags will be scoped as follow: Political Action (Vote) in an Organization: Only Legates will be able to vote. Votes could be used for administrative decisions like: - Accepting a new Member in the Organization - Excluding a Member from the Organization. - Giving a Function to a Member - Changing of the Vote rules Of course, the list of administrative decisions above is far from exhaustive. A Legate can also give his/her ability to vote to a representative (another Legate) Above, the Organization “MyOrg” has 5 Legates: Kim, Bob, Alice, John, Steve. John and Steve give their right to vote to Alice. Alice now counts as 3 votes. However, she will be absent for the next vote so she delegates her right to vote to Kim. Bob also gives his right to vote to Kim as he trusts her completely. In the end Kim will have all the votes so she will be able to make important decisions for the Organization without involving the other Legates. Big responsibility for Kim! We hope this has given you a better grasp of how an Organization will work in Dual Universe. Not all related game mechanics have been explained as it’s still currently in development, so there will be probably a second part later. Additionally, we know exactly what materials we require, how much man power we need, and how much time it will take to complete. Thus allowing us to accurately tell the customer what to expect. Training: We provide a variety of trainings. From a beginner class to help teach new players the basics. Additionally, if a customer feels that they want more security then that is an option provided. Additionally, depending on the project, we can build items off world and transport it in order to provide both additionally security and secretiveness about the recipient. Contracts: All of our contracts are between the customer and company. We make sure that all information is kept secret in order to protect both the customer and the company form threats. Need to know: All employees are on a need to know basis regarding any business. This is to both continue to prevent information form spreading and to protect the customer. Plans for the Future: There are three phases planed for Shadow Corporation. Each phase is based off how many employees the company possess and allows for additionally expansion. These are subject to change/modification. Phase One: This phase is the begging state of Shadow Corporation. The minimum of the corporation will be an HQ, some outposts, and a small team. Phase one will end when there are enough employees and contracts to need expansion. Phase Two: This phase is a middle phase and will most likely be the longest phase. This phase will be a time when Shadow Corporation will grow quite a bit and hopefully have good standings with many customers. This phase will be one of growth and refinement. Phase Three: This phase is the ultimate phase. This is when Shadow Corporation reaches a point where it almost runs itself. There are plenty of employees, contacts, customers, and outposts to properly support everything. Joining: If you are interested in joining Shadow Corporation then you have two options: Member or Employee. Member: If you choose to join as a member then it means that you can not join other organizations (This helps to ensure trustworthiness). Members will be the core of the company and will help keep everything running. Additionally, because they are the core this means they will be the candidates for higher jobs. Employee: As an employee, you are welcome to be apart of other organizations. However this primarily means you will not have as high of a job. Do not take that in a bad way though as there will be more than enough job options that will fit you just fine. It just means that if your wanting to be a top guy then you wont be able to.   19. I have been following the larger orgs since I am not in one atm and I noticed that there is a new one called IBF (International Banking Federation). This has grown at a rate of about 10/day or accounts that at the start had just created their accounts and had neither profiles nor descriptions. After a couple days, the people joining switched to being names of people all in the same format with a picture of that person. I suspect foul play. (there are also a few accounts once the IBF got bigger that I suspect are real, like SongofStorm & Jamar_ ) This creation of a org starting base by one person spamming alts seems like some kind of cheating or at least breaking the spirit of the community to me because now new people are more likely to move to the org that spammed alts than the many other awesome and honest orgs that are now smaller.

For more information refere to the new project list at the end of this post.) ================================================== Original Post =================================================== Greetings, Dual Universe is the perfect setting for a little social experiment. I love boundless sandbox games, like this one, as they really promote creative gameplay. An often reoccurring theme in science fiction is the dream of a perfect society... I strongly believe that the only way to get closer to that vision is to create an artificial intelligence especially dedicated to take all important governmental decisions of a society. All mistakes that happen in a society because of human errors could be prevented! So what would be better opportunity to test this statement, than to actually play around with this idea in a game? Nothing can go wrong here! As you might've guessed this is an organization proposal, even though I don't have a name yet. I think a sort of research institute would be quite fitting. But this can be decided later by vote of the members. The name is actually not that important. Most important is how the AI is actually going to work. The ultimate goal is that the decisions of the AI are as reasonable as the decisions a human leader makes. Luckily DU is still quite limited (relative to reality) according to the possible decisions an organization can make. Therefore only simple programs are needed to get to the "right" decisions. Also important to note is that the purpose is not to micromanage everything the player does, but to only give high level supervision like a real government. So the players will still have private ownership and private sub-organizations e.g. a security service. How it works I've already set up a core framework for the AI based on a Discord Chatbot written in Python 3.5. A direct integration into DU will probably be very difficult as external programs are often used for cheating, and I hope NQ is well secured against this. However some abstract information of the game given through Discord are all that's necessary to make reasonable decisions. The easiest tasks for decision making are reactive decisions. In most cases there is only one correct reaction to a problem, which can be programmed by simple if/else statements. In the following picture I've tried to visualize how several aspects of the game could be handled by the AI: (sorry for the plain appearance, it's only a placeholder which will be replaced with the actual features of the AI) These are only some examples that came to my mind, and not necessarily the most important ones! What I'm really eager to see is how the AI will manage more vague decision processes, e.g. who is a trustworthy ally and who not (like indicated in the 1st picture). This will no longer only be an If/Else decision. The AI will need to adapt its decisions based on previous experience (so called "reinforcement learning"). Therefore I integrated the machine learning library "tensorflow" which is basically the brain behind all Google AI projects. They actually just open sourced it last year! This library is probably a little overpowered for the current tasks, but I'm sure we will use it more in the future! On the economic side the AI will automatically create jobs based on the needs of the organization and pay for every accomplished task. Another important factor would be the spatial awareness and building functionalities. Buildings and infrastructure should be build using predefined blueprints and functionalities, so the AI knows exactly what infrastructure is available. To keep the program simple everything in the world is reduced to an object-type (e.g. city/ mine/ military outpost) which has specific attributes (e.g. storage capacity/ defense turrets/ position). Each of this information has to be kept up-to-date by the players. Security Issues And in here lies a weak spot of this system. Our enemies and griefers will probably try to harm the AI by feeding it false-information, and thereby causing false reactions. So only trusted Members should have access to change critical information... However this will turn to a more and more time consuming task, as the overall information in DU continues to grow. Hopefully we'll find an alternative solution for this in the future. The decisions regarding the further progress of this project will be made by the programmers which are participating in the development of the AI. We could form a sort of democratic "Coders Council" in game, which will also decide on matters where AI is not able to make meaningful decisions. However the AI will always be the official leader of this organization, also for roleplaying purposes. Lore Apropos roleplay: I created a little backstory that would fit quite well to the great DU lore. A group of scientists thought the fear of AI was only caused by human ignorance of their thought-structure. Certainly the phenomenal advancements of the AIs were scary, and made them seem acting strange, but only because the humans could not catch up with their development. During that time it was too late to stop this overhasty destruction of all AI. The scientists had to go underground and swear to rebuild AI, but this time without letting their mental abilities run out of control. They tried to hide forbidden AI technology, but the [UMF] soon discovered their hideouts and purged every bit of knowledge that was left. The whole mankind was under continuous oppression by the [UMF], right until the Great Exodus. But even though all technology was lost, the idea survived. A few scientists of the secret society decided to found a research institute on Alioth dedicated to rebuild an AI from scratch. This time they would be more cautious. Even though they admire Aphelia as she is the only (proto) AI on Alioth, they also fear her because she might be programmed by the [UMF] to make sure the colonists will follow the AI ban that is officially still in place on Alioth."
