  1. Thanks I really needed a chuckle. might get one of their T-shirts. LOL.
  2. Oh FFS, ANOTHER necro!!! it’s like Night of the Living Dead in here recently. NQ. Archive older posts please. 3 months of inactivity should be fine, this isn’t Reddit.
  3. except that you can earn all the ships in game. Some people have already earned “$200” or more ships just in the alpha. And multiple times since the wallets are wiped almost monthly some times. the fact is most people pay for a ship to support the game. one of my students is happily playing SC with a $45 Aurora starter pack after introduced the game to him in 2018. he knows how to make money in game by performing missions, deliveries, pirating NPCs, repairing beacon satellites and of course: hand held and ship based mining. He can also wipe the floor with me in PvP in his little fighter while I have a more expensive ship, I am no match for him. The advantage of being a teenager I guess... lol. (He’s also unfathomably good at Fortnite and Apex but likes SC because of the slower pace). I bet you paid more than that for your DU access. Lol. And what of those things I listed above have you done with that money in DU? I’d say SC has far better ROI than DU if you are able to stop yourself from blowing your load into CR’s wallet. ? DU is designed to make money for NQ!!! Oh Noes!!!
  4. As @Habitant said above #1 is SSD. You can get any current midrange Intel or AMD CPU with 6+ cores and that will be plenty for most games. Let's just assume that you won't be squeezing blood from a stone and trying to get a GPU, but rather hang on to what you've got. Prices are in an unholy place right now. If you can wait a little and have a poor IGPU (Integrated GPU on the chip) setup right now you might want to wait for the Ryzen 6700 (IIRC) which will come with VEGA 8 graphics built in... It's not a racehorse, but it should be better than current offerings. You'll need an AM4 motherboard, obviously. If you're not changing your CPU/GPU then at least these two things make the most sense regardless of your setup: SATA or NVME SSD 2x16GB RAM SSD: I will NEVER buy a PC with application/OS storage on spinning rust (HDD) ever again again. Full Stop! Just don't punish yourself or your PC like that. SSDs make a world of difference and can be well over x10 faster than HDD in some scenarios. Don't fret if your motherboard doesn't come with a dedicated PCI (M2) NVME slot for an SSD. You will get 90%+ of the performance boost of SSD from merely replacing your SATA HDD with a SATA SSD and won't re that much difference moving up to PCI based solutions unless all your other components are top notch. However, if you do have an M2 slot on your motherboard, there is little point getting a SATA SSD right now since the price difference is minimal. Get a quality SSD with DRAM cache (i.e. not DRAMLESS) 512Gb seems the sweet spot for performance/durability vs price right now. I always go with Samsung EVO and have never replaced even a single one yet since 2016. But of course, YMMV. RAM: 32GB of RAM or more will give you an all-round smoother performance and reduce wear and tear on your SSD due to swapping data off and on to the disk when RAM is full. (Make sure you get 2x16Gb to give you dual channel and to let you expand with another 2x16 down the line if ever needed for future proofing.) Don't worry about super expensive overclocked RAM it makes at most only a few % difference to speed in some cases... just get any decent branded RAM like Patriot, Corsair or Crucial and at the stock speed recommended for your CPU. FINAL, PRO TIP: Despite all marketing claims, RGB DOES NOT actually boost performance of the attached component by 50% ?
  5. This is a known problem.... and has been ongoing for a long time now. IIANM, Utopia Spacers' Guild have been using large cores placed in strategic locations as "anchors" to stop medium cores "stealing" small and x-small ships from their landing pads merely by parking close to other ships. I think the idea is that placing a large core means any ships in the area become slaved to the large core rather than each other, so remain, effectively independent. Give that a go. Or contact USG on discord and ask them about it. They are a super friendly bunch.
  6. You can only show WIP when there is actual WIP to show.
  7. Cool story, bro ? but not quite correct. Despairing, maybe, but desperate? Not really.
  8. I have found that deleting the cache unintuitively speeds up loading. I guess they have to check the whole cache contents’ hashes to confirm the integrity of the contents and maybe even to prevent people manipulating the game contents offline... so the bigger the cache, the longer this takes. never had to log out and log back in after cleaning the cache to feel the benefits, though.
  9. Fully agreed. yes. 100%. If they can’t/won’t get core merging to work, these 3 configurations would be a good compromise. cube / pizza box / pole. If they made bigger build cubes, they need better elevators, too. We already need five elevators instead of just two to go from corner to furthest corner on a large cube.
  10. . I already have done. So I don’t see why someone has to supply you with another example. I am amazed how you constantly have a different experience to so many other people in this forum. It’s like you are using a different build to everybody else. I have had to call NQ due to errors not of my own making. my ship coming in to land at our base in Alioth after returning from MP3; the ground did not rez in until I was landed and the ground appeared around me and my ship. Which then started to fall. I was returned to the surface, my ship wasn’t. this happened several times. It turns out there was a massive cave 17km below our base. Where my ship always seemed to end by the time I reappeared. how do I know? Because I had a res node on my ship and once I tried to spawn to it but got trapped in the underground cave with no exit. Another less worrying error but very common is that I have also been flying a ship using a remote pad and suddenly I am stopped in midair and my ship is continuing by itself. By the time I hit the ground, my ship is km away. several times, my ship was more than 4km up. so now that you have this information (again) what do you intend to do with it? You specifically asked for an example.
  11. What with all the necros recently? Have some noobs arrived or something? This is the second dead and buried post I've seen resurrected in less than a day... And it's a pointless post at that. Just people whingeing as usual without anything constructive (except the one post in reply to the OP with some actual hints....) Can't you auto lock posts that lay dormant for 3 months or something? There is rarely anything worth resurrecting that was laid to rest.
  12. I remember the bravado with which NQ deleted the fetch function. patch notes were crowing, "fetch feature removed as it is no longer needed" BWAHAHHAHA!!! They can't dig under the markets. Like I said right there; TO THE SURFACE.... If it's already on the surface, it wont move. Therre is already that mechanism for your avatar (GOING BACK TO SURFACE) but not for your constructs. OK, maybe a little bit of leeway is needed to compensate for the chance that it is caught in a late spawning structure.... Maybe a few hundred metres or so. But the fact is, having a ship caught 17km underground is not fun. It happened to me several times on Alioth and I had to phone NQ to get it out. Therefore, there should be no limit as to how deep your ship can be retrieved from. Why do you constantly try to find fault with everything?
  13. Decluttering the markets is without a doubt literally the #1 requested feature of all time since... well, forever. Pretty much everyone has been a victim of the complete fustercluck that surrounds Alioth market places, especially 6 and 7. You would be really amused if you had seen how NQ have tried to avoid dealing with it. Seriously comical.
  14. Personally, I think it should be limited to fetching a ship to the surface of a planet if in atmosphere with no distance limit, but not across the atmospheric 0% barrier. Otherwise if range were unlimited, it would be too easy to load up a ship with 200kT of stuff and zap it into space for free or safely land a monster ship without effort from space. Far more tedious is the manoeuvre tool limit. that was just unnecessarily strict, IMO.
  15. Holy Smoking Necro Post Batman....
  16. Yep. I have 2GBps fibre to my business here in Tokyo and run the game on a Sabrent PCIE4 SSD... The second best thing to an Intel Optane SSD. It is regularly loading 30-60MBps megabytes not bits per second for several minutes, sometimes my net monitor measures over a gigabyte every time I log on... that's not even clearing the cache. To say this game is not yet optimised is a study in truth.
  17. OK, so let me actually explain what happened, coherently... rather than gibbering on like a loon. ? Originally, the NO PVP Zone was intended to be limited to Sanctuary moon only, with PVP eventually arriving everywhere else. All planets were to have ground PVP and the safe zone was originally limited to the region surrounding Sanctuary... Hence the name.. Sanctuary. But at some point, the PVP-Free zone or Safe Zone as it became known was expanded to include Alioth, Madis and Thades and their associated moons. It has also been stated that this is likely a permanent "feature" which means that the original purpose of Sanctuary was lost. Sanctuary is a relic from a time gone by. Hope that explains what is going on...
  18. when I heard they were introducing surrogate wives... errr... I mean terminals: like, seriously where did that come from? there were thousands of posts on these forums already, but I don’t remember even reading one that said, “wouldn’t it be super cool if we could nip to a VR terminal and beam a useless, emasculated proxy of ourself to another location.”
  19. Feedback is supposedly a two way, iterative process... Had NQ shown some proactivity they could have fostered the good will of their community... They could have picked up common repeated themes that clog the forums day after day or at least reappear month after month and created a more focussed "discuss this" channel based upon those ideas. The top post of each idea could contain a brief executive summary of the state of play. If the idea is quashed or to be included then a decisive final update of the first post should be written... That way energy could be focused on constructive criticism of salient points rather than thousands of pie in the sky posts that never get looked at. Moreover, they should have been more forthright with their refusals and rebuttals.... "That is technically challenging because..." "No, we won't be considering that because..." rather than pointlessly pandering to people's egos "That's a very good idea... " or "we may look at that in the future" or "It's very far down the road..." etc... From a business perspective, that's a major NOPE. It fosters false hope and causes more energy to be put into shite that will never fly. Both JC and Chris Roberts suffered greatly from this.... .. and look what happened to Star Citizen until around 2020 when Chris Roberts finally had his mouth taped shut by someone on the team (rumour has it it was Erin, his more down to earth and pragmatic brother)... and finally, SC staff can knuckle down and work on the meat and veg rather than pandering to a top level exec who has a little too much imagination and not enough self control.
  20. The problem is, is that much of the UI seems to have been programmed by a high school pupil... and likely one who excels at art-history or home economics. It's one of the least intuitive UIs I've ever used. Another typically unhelpful example is this: Try copying and pasting a section of voxels that you don't have in your inventory... Does it tell you what you're short of? Does if f'ck... Nothing "Not enough material..." I do understand them not documenting stuff yet, becuase it's a waste of time until things are nailed down.. But this game should be returned to alpha status to temper people's expectations since the game abounds with ridiculous holes in the UI that should never have made it out of Alpha... Although honestly, this game is obviously still an alpha in everything except name.. Whoever decided to call it a beta needs to be called out for fraudulent marketing...
  21. ... other than just to give players an outlet for their frustration? does NQ ever read it? I gave it a cursory look through for the first time ever just now but failed to see any indication of NQ presence in that thread. what is the point on an ideas thread that nobody reads? If you go to the FDEV forums (elite dangerous’ developers), any thread with “official” interaction -even a single post- has a little mark next to it. im just wondering, is that forum taken seriously and has it a serious purpose or is it the place where good (and bad) ideas go to die and is just a filter to remove “blue skies” and “wishful thinking” posts from this thread?
  22. I believe they’ve said this isn’t going to happen. it’s something to do with how vegetation is generated mathematically.
  23. At least the bed shrunk. It used to be 4m long!!
