I understand that some of you are angry at NQ for the latest patch and other various shenanigans. In a way, I agree with you; i'm not picking any sides here. But this criticism has turned into toxicity. Some people believe that it is acceptable to pick apart and beat Novaquark with hate instead of calmly and kindly giving helpful advice on how to make the game improve. Some people believe whenever someone comments a different opinion about the 0.23 update it is their primary objective to thrash back and pour salt on them because 'no one can say nice things about the update'.  Some people believe that since the game has turned out slightly different from what they expected they must alert and discourage everyone from playing the game because it is a 'scam*'. Some people believe that just because their experience is ruined they must ruin it for everyone else. And some people just jump on the salt bandwagon even if they have never set up an industry unit in their life.

I will repeat what I just said. I am NOT saying that 0.23 was either a good or bad of an update. If you hate it, that's fine. But people like this are becoming a large excrement deposit on the Dual Universe community. You might have heard that recently a forum conversation got out of hand when an individual exposed a LinkedIn profile of an NQ employee. That is flat out unacceptable. If you are one of the people like this, instead of beating this game and its 50 employees down, just LEAVE. This game would be much better without people like you anyway.

    * I have watched the trailers many times now. in my disgustingly baist opinion it's not. (sacré bleu!) misleading? maybe slightly. But let's be honest here, for games that require player interaction, they all are. Take a look at the Starbase trailer for example. Just like Dual's trailer, they both include massive fight sequences, which take up half of the trailer runtime. Sure they are technically possible, but definitely aren't ever gonna happen apart from the rare few events and such.

I know that I will get a wave of salt from this post, just like my previous ones. so please be civil. I won't be responding to any of the people that are hating for the sake of hating or people saying the game is bad without giving at least a bit of constructive criticism. If you feel so inclined, just shout at a wall instead.

Not a slow news day at all, just another one of your speculations, which is extremely negative and has been proved to be untrue.  Just holding you to account for your words.  Although I am sure, if the PTS comes out sooner than March, you will be the first to come on here with an apology for being wrong.

Also slightly ironic you questioning my posting activity, you seem to be pretty obsessed for someone who doesnt play the game lol

Combat needs to be drastically improved before subjecting all players too it, but, yes, some NPC pirates, preferable in non-PVP areas would be fun once combat works right.

But I don't think DU's design would allow it because the physics runs in the client and NPCs have no client. And NQ would need a much larger budget to build that game.

Though in all fairness, running many players out of the game will indeed slow down progression, so from JC's perspective, he will have achieved his objective.

With new pvp updates coming, we need some sort of timer/shield protection for Space cores, and giving them a reason to be put in pvp space.  Once that happens we can remove all abilities to warp to planet/moons and instead can only warp to warp beacons.  Also take the time to fix them so the RDMS works on them, and actually include the duties to so people can charge per warp.  Now we will have something to fight over in the outer planets, or reason for alliances/empires/federations to place warp beacons,. and protect them., and could make them public but add a small fee to be used.

pushing to live new systems barely tested and/or tested by people who don't actually play the game like the average player would is going to end badly.

You're not speaking for everyone here. I don't want to produce everything so I can play it as basically a single player sandbox. You shouldn't be able to just produce everything extremely easily. You should have to interact with the markets and other players, just like the real world as far as production goes. That is NQs vision for THEIR game. Right now, the people playing the solo type game style are not playing it how they want the game to be played. I agree 100% with how they said most would get bored after a few months of just being able to produce everything in the game. That is "end game" and there is no real meaning past it. You don't have to work for anything. Unless all you want to do is build ships and constructs, then sure, that's cool for you, but that's not everyone in the game. I love the market side of things and want to see it play a larger role.

In eve I didn't produce anything, everything was bought from the markets. I understand what the devs are aspiring for, it was better done now rather than 6 months later when players are even more used. For new players the current way will be the norm.

There will just be this weird adjustment period when the markers aren't mature yet, availability poor, not a lot of demand for ores, money making methods limited etc. If you don't have a money making method you enjoy, don't force the unwanted gameplay on yourself, wait for other methods to be implemented.

The devs should take note that the 2 most popular forum topics in the last couple weeks or so are either new players asking to refund/unsub, and old players saying there needs to be a wipe before release(after all core game features are implemented).

Usually i'm on NQ's side for most things but this is pretty much the definition of "righteous justice" .
All this due to your horrendous RDMS system which is highly suceptable to exploits.
You think losing a Market is a big deal but some of us lost days, weeks, hell even months of work from these holes in the system.
We got people making tickets, creating Forum posts for days in a row only for our concerns to be met with absolute silence?
Perhaps it's time to take a step back, if you want a system that rewards scammers and exploiters at least do the courtesy and offer some basic countermeasures.

Asirmoth reacted to Dakanmer in Lighting changes
I'm sure it's been beat to death with a herring, but lighting. NQ's intentions were good with trying to make things less stressful flying at night and dark places, but they made it pointless to have lights regardless of environment. So here's my idea:
Scale back the ambient lighting, or remove it entirely and give us a "night vision" mode on our super-advanced suits (that also apparently keep us fed, breathing, sane from lack of sleep, etc), and then improve the ability of lights to actually produce light over a longer range (without bleaching through walls or the ground).

    Explanation:
As described above, lights are pointless regardless of environment. You don't need a flashlight when mining anymore; the pitch indicator is great, but you can't see it so easy with the flashlight on, especially in brighter soils. You don't need light elements on your constructs anymore. Lights can help better pinpoint your construct in space or dark soils, but we now have luminescent white (but no other color. Much sad face) voxels for that, so they are completely unnecessary. Whether you are underground, on the surface, hiding deep in a labyrinth of corridors and rooms in your construct, in a panic room in your super destroyer in space, or anywhere else, the sun bleaches through and lights your surroundings enough to see everything as though it was at least an overcast/rainy day, even giving a sun "reflection" on any surface that is ~orthogonal to it (this is especially annoying in space, when I'm pointing directly away from the sun and getting glare in my piloting cabin that makes my transparent screen unreadable...and yeah, I could make it a normal screen, but stop making excuses for problems. That translucent screen is in front of the forward window so that I can see where I'm going and watch important stats, and smaller screens out of my direct field of view get blocked by the default UI). Added to that, you see the reflection of the nebula wherever you are, whether above ground, km below with no sky access, or in your labyrinthine constructs with no outside visibility, which completely throws off aesthetics. (Want a mirror in your bathroom? Too bad, it's a viewing portal to space!)
The overall effect is that there might as well be no night or day, but a constant bleh of medium-to-high lighting differences. There might as well be no lights, as well, no matter how deeply you dig or how thick and dark your walls.

    Justification and response:
Some people have said they love the change because of night flying and trying to find space stations in the dark. I hate to be "that guy," but get over it. Night time and space are dark. That's why we invented lights, and that's why we invented night vision systems (like "thermal" and "infrared" goggles/cameras). The nebula is great and adds lots of flavor to the place, but it shouldn't be so pervasive that you can see it reflected anywhere at any time on most semi-reflective+ surfaces, nor should it light up the solar system. At most, it should provide aesthetic value and contrast (like in space, contrasting your ship against the void). Similar with the sun, it shouldn't be reflecting off anything on the other side of a planet and inside a fully enclosed room. Improving the ability of lights to perform their intended function, and giving a toggled night vision system, would make night and space flying doable without detracting from the game's realism or aesthetics, and complaints about such a change would become void; best of both worlds.

Others have suggested similar ideas, but it can't be overstated how much the new lighting has adversely impacted gameplay. Some people are happy because they can see at night and in space, but they should have been asking for improvements to physical lights and a night vision toggle system for your suit (and learning important lessons about the dangers of night time/space navigation, and the need for quality lighting/detection elements/systems, like telemeters that have longer ranges to allow for coders to create LiDAR programs), not cheering for something that is a massive eyesore and big inconvenience for those of us who respect the psychological, aesthetic, and logistical impacts/aspects of darkness. (Want to build an escape scenario that is spooky? Hard to do when you can see EVERYTHING with only weaksauce shadows.)

    Hello Noveans!

We would like to thank you for your patience during the past few weeks as we have been incredibly focused on getting you all into the game. While we know there are still a few edge cases out there, we hope you’ve been enjoying your time in Dual Universe!

A burning topic is known bugs surrounding duping, and their exploitation. We’d like to offer some clarifications on this.

We are aware of some bugs that were allowing players to dupe items and resources, and we are actively investigating  these. The process is however slow and labor intensive. Given how much time is involved, and how severe the outcome is, we want to make it clear that we are taking all exploits very seriously and they will carry heavy sanctions for abuse cases up to and including removal of player accounts and permanent bans.

We have a zero tolerance policy towards cheating and exploiting, as is clearly laid out in our Code of Conduct.

For those who have encountered these bugs and already reported them, we thank you. There will be no sanctions on those accounts. We may balance gains if deemed necessary.  For those who have been knowingly abusing bugs, you have 48 hours to report your activities via a ticket here: support.dualthegame.com - your duped proceeds will be removed, but no further action will be taken. Please select Gameplay in the first form drop-down, select the “Rules & Policies” > “Exploits” category and use the subject “Self Report” For those who continue to exploit, and do not report it, your account will be banned without notice upon completion of our investigations.
While every person has their own sense of fun, it is important to remember that this is an MMO and that rules must be enforced to keep play fair and even.
We thank you for being a part of the Dual Universe  beta and for helping us keep the game fair and entertaining.

    Sincerely,
    The Novaquark Team

Some of us have been playing for three years because we are fine to put up with the issues, because DU gives us something we cant get anywhere else.  The problem is that new players dont get to reach that part because they are put off by these issues, made worse by the fact that:
Some of the issue are specific to new players, because they are in zones with high load The company need money, so had to open it up, more money = better servers and the game will then run much better (as it did in alpha) but short term, more players = worse performance (catch 22) DU is 100% my favourite game, I have not played anything else since BETA launched, I 100% understand why the new user experience will put off some players, as will the lack of certain features (such as pvp) but some people will be like me and be happy to put up with the issue because they also see the incredible potential.

Being an ALPHA backer I am lucky and dont have to sub, but if I did have to, I would pay it no problem BUT I know what the game offers, it will be a shame if people leave without seeing that.

Finally the game is starting to work as intended. A PLAYER driven economy. I have had to fly around the ark ship in search of the precious few bits and pieces we can’t make in our factory yet. (Lights, container hubs). The prices are Whooooooo high.... but I’m willing to pay them because I need the parts.

supply and demand, baby, it’s a beautiful thing!

if you can’t buy it, buckle up (can’t use man-up any more T_T) make a factory yourself and sell it for an obscene profit.
