Hunter I am glad you were one of the members to not be attacked.  I have however seen it time and again.  I look at defending the non loot able DAC system the same way the majority of us have defended the Pay to Play method in all of the Free to Play posts.  Nobody wants to hear it, nobody cares about that persons views.  I get it, NQ laid down the law on what pay method they are using and we get tired of hearing it.  This is the 2nd thread already dealing with DAC's being non loot able.

The DACs are not emergent, that is my point in saying wanting emergent gameplay to loot them is meaningless.  They are there for 2 very good reason.  They let the broke players continue to play, and they put a serious hurting on the Chinese gold farming spam sites. we all know, you either have DAC's or Gold farmers, spaming us all the time.

If you can't loot my credits, why should you be able to loot my DACs?  Credits are digital so hey that at least makes game play sense.....well so are DACs!

Yes, I am referring to the ones, that will attempt to scam those that need the DACs to continue playing.  sell it cheap in a remote area, than pounce as soon as its bought, to loot it right back again.  More than likely some dumb kid that doesnt realize, what might be going on.

there was an open discussion on DAC's, with a poll already.  starting another thread on the matter was not needed.  The point is NQ stated they were not and a group of players IMHO appear to be trying to sway that to the style of play they want, even going as far as stating they might take back their pledge if they don't get their way....So I call someone who wants to steal little timmy's DAC a scumbag, others threaten to pull their support if they dont get to steal it....

From the model above, your 80 DAC are safe if option C is the new method correct???  which is the whole point of this new thread to give yet another option but hey lets steal little timmy's DAC but you better make mine from KS safe mentality.  I have a problem with this, either they are all loot able or non are.  Why should the KS ones be protected but not all future one bought?  The ones in the future are going to cost those members more than the amount you get for your pledge, that is some reverse logic thinking to protect the cheaper dollar ones.

The entire point of the DAC system is so that people (mostly kids) that can't afford to pay to play, have an option.  now making that option a loot able item IMHO damages the entire DAC system.  The other problem is its the dumb young kids that are going to fall prey to this time and again.  Now I don't know about you, but I try and take young players under my wing and help them out.

There will be enough loot for the looters, in fully emergent style or crafted items, blueprints, and raw materials.  We all want this game to succeed, but there are a few toxic personalities in these forums, that have attacked time and again different view points from theirs, this being the newest one.

Let me ask you Yamamushi, a few months back when you first seen this project, and thought to yourself, damn! I cant wait to support this, did you really think to yourself, OH, but not is DAC's are not loot able!

Im tired of hearing about emergent gameplay concerning DACs, if you want emergent gameplay, how do you justify DACs existance in the game world? Its a real thing to sell, trade that gives you game time to play. Your emergent play should only care about real game items that you use. All of your arguments to promote the stealing of someone elses game play time are completely ridiculous.

I honestly hope they do not go to this play style, and if you guys drop over i wish ypu well in eve where you can do this.

I am sick of seeing this community attack the new members, and i am also sick of you all thinking that your idea is the only way this game should work. Guess what, a lot of people dont want to steal a 12 year olds month of game play, and we think it should be protected from scum bags trying to steal it.

GalloInfligo reacted to le_troll_des_bois in Letter of appreciation to Novaquark
I just got back from the event held in Paris at Novaquark offices. I had to leave a little early, but still, this was quite an awesome evening.

I'd like to thank all the team members at novaquark for hosting this event, you guys rock !
Quick run down of events for those who didn't attend:

    - Introduction to the dev build we would lay our hands upon a few minutes later by the man himself: JC Baillie
    - Fool around with the dev build previously showcased in NQ videos with some members of the dev team to help us out when needed
    - QA session with JC again
    - Little drink with the rest of the team and attendees

    Where do I start ?

First, we met very dedicated and enthusiastic people at NQ. At no point did I feel I've been fed some PR bull*hit, or that the enthusiasm or willingness from dev to talk about their game was faked.
These guys really want to push themselves to deliver the best possible experience with this project, that's for sure.

I viewed JC as a strong leader, with a clear vision for the game, an acute knowledge of the challenges ahead and how to overcome them. From what we've seen from the team, my guess is that this project is in pretty good hands.

As expected from a dev build, the control scheme and performance were not ideal, but it ran perfectly. The nice thing is that the game ran on a server, meaning that we had 5 computers running at the same time with people fooling around.
I gotta say, seeing people zooming by in a newly built ship (the first one was built within a couple of minutes), or vandalizing editing those already placed by the devs was really cool.

There was a lot to cover during the QA session and little time to answer all the questions, but the community managers who waited for us with the drinks were kind enough to answer all of the remaining questions. Thanks for your golden patience and, again, enthusiasm guys !

I'm glad I was able to attend and meet the people behind the project, it really gives another meaning to my backing on KS.

Anyways, thanks again guys, and all the best for the things to come !

It doesnt do as much good as it sounds for them to be a loot-able item.

I'm going to go against this

Unlike in eve, there are no NPC stations to sit them in. theyll exist somwhere in game at all times available to be taken.

Everyone makes this sound like it'll destroy the game if you can't steal DAC's from people. I'm not convinced stealing DAC's is useful for the game as a whole. Its simply an interesting mechanic for them, but its not really fair in either direction. DAC's themselves arent particularly fair and making them lootable is just another injustice.

Either way is percieved as something not fair. If people with money can buy DACs not fair. If people can't steal DACs somehow also not fair.
I respect NQ's decision to make them non lootable.

Why would anyone ever move a DAC, even if its a physical item just use a tag mark it as yours and you are the only one with the right to pick it up, leave it in the Novark field area, and leave. Realized there is technically one safe area.

I'm not about strong arming NQ to make decisions or using perceived leverage against them I hope they stick to making choices they believe are logical and not bending because the community clammors for something that is opinion.

Great games have been wrecked in both directions, communities asking for questionable mechanics, and devlopers turning their back to community opinion.

if DAC are stealable then it will become a physical curency, so much more than just a pass to the game, generating lust and abuses in all the bad ways

For example new players aware of nothing, carying on a freshly aquiered from a Steam promotion package, 20 Dacs without really knowing what it is, but for them just a 2 monthes subscribtion to the game, and loosing them on the first day?

What would long time players say to this new player?
    - Its your fault, you should have read the 20 topics about on the forum and devblog before playing?
    - You must join us on the behalf of our hole mighty organisation we will secure your future 15€ spent?

This topic is a joke right?

How would NQ reach 100 thousands players if the 5000 first players from alpha already planning to literrally scare the shit out their pants the  995 000 that will join at realease

Be realistic and stop thinking you are already the Emperor of the Universe, but do compromises for this game to be THE game that will fit a majority not a minority

Yes, I support their decision against lootable DACs for a variety of reasons:
I can't imagine the grief of spending money on DACs and losing all of it shortly after in-game. That's the stuff that can quickly turn players away, presumably those that are especially willing to spend a lot of money on the game. Safe zones, like around the arkship, are apparently planned to be rare and far between. Trade with DACs would almost certainly only be happening in those safe zones if DACs were lootable, possibly giving safe zones an enormous economic edge beyond what they already inherently are going to have anyway. I'd rather there be several big markets with player-enforced security outside the safe bubble, the prospect of all trading hubs being located in safe zones feels pretty bleh. Unlootable money and DACs make active trading hubs outside safe zones much more feasible. DACs are a form of currency, and RP-wise it only makes sense to me that currency would be all digital so far in the future. The counter-argument concerning emergent gameplay feels weak to me, personally. Presumably you can still steal pretty much anything else, and there should be plenty of trade ships whizzing about moving all kinds of goods and resources, some of them bound to be very valuable, too. Looting crates of titanium and a cache of missiles makes for a better story than nicking someone's chequebook anyway.

Two examples of when DACs should not be able to be stolen:
    1) A casual gamer with a bit of time but no spare money has gathered enough resources to purchase next months subscription in the form of a DAC. Then it is stolen, potentially losing DU a player forever.
    2) Kickstarter DACs. They are a major component in nearly all the backing options. Losing the lot on the first day is sure to also lose players.

Call it their own stupidity, losing players due to a game "feature" is not desirable.

Why should DACs be able to be stolen?
    1) Curbing the super rich player from dumping thousands of DACs to effectively purchase entire orgs.
    2) Encouraging piracy and in turn security forces. This is emergent gameplay.

Converting DACs to physical items at your spawn point would put the risk on the seller and the buyer could immediately digitize it again. It could work.

But wait. The DAC dealer can dump a thousand DACs anyway. Being able to steal DACs won't actually change this. And are there not other resources, elements, blueprints, entire ships that can be pirated?

Pretty sure NQ is aiming for a more physically based system, like Cornflakes says.

If you want your ship to go faster, add more engines.

If you want more protection, add more shield units.

If you want to deal more damage, add more weapons.

Then you add in power generators as needed. Seems pretty simple to me.

Be careful however. Things can change quickly when you are "on top" or further up on the ladder. Things may seem different or "tempting" then and you could be inclined to act more offensive and care-free when dealing with others. Sometimes it can be fine, often depending on how you react to others you simply make yourself new enemies.

Some self restraint would seem suitable. Heck, it is suitable in general.

I'm tired of people breathing into the mic. Babies screaming in the background. People coughing, the random guy playing while talking or screaming to his friends oblivious to peoples request to mute himself.

Anyhow, I didn't mean to offend and I'm sorry.  I was only posting my LM builds since the OP asked us to show you all what we've got. And well...that's what I've got to show.

The problem with you logic here is, Servers do cost money to run, so if you don't want to pay a monthly fee to play a game, I suggest you stick to the ones that don't have this set-up.  MMO's on the other hand HAVE this set up, and you can expect to pay a monthly fee to keep their server going.  All of these BS arguments about not wanting to pay can be boiled down to that simple idea.  I am glad they plan to charge monthly, and will have no problem paying them.
