  1. I would think NQ is more concerned about increasing the number of payed accounts, then anything else right now.
  2. Granted I haven't had time to test the new patch yet. But when I read "new FX" in the release notes, I immediately went "oh no" they are going to overuse this new toy as they have done with other effects in the past. I also have a suspicion there is not only a problem with build mode tool effects, but that having industry running with lots of effects is going to get old very quickly.
  3. Advantage in numbers is something that is impossible to avoid and still have a playable game. Just replace multi-account with orgs and you have the same problem, with large orgs gaining the advantage by funneling the player resources into projects that others are not able to. The trick as I see it is to not care so much about what others have or do. There will always be someone with more spare time then you, willing to grind the game out.
  4. And since this is a sci-fi game and we have space engines, it would not be inconceivable that rocket engines had some kind of nozzle to vary the output. This is actually already possible but not practical in RL.
  5. Personal relations and companies are very different beasts. It does not matter how positive you try to be, a commercial company stops functioning the second there is no money to pay bills and wages. And often the plug is pulled long before you reach that stage, to try and mitigate financial damage.
  6. You are either missing or trying to sidestep the issue here. Claiming that modifying web pages on the browser client may be problematic and possible even illegal, is such an absurd statement that is was bound to cause people to react. As long as this is done client side, there is no legal argument here period. We are not breaking into and compromising the NQ servers in any way. We are just choosing how much of the web data sent from NQ we want to use. It is no different from putting a post-it note on the screen to cover up something you don't want to see.
  7. Not playing the game, and not being interested in the game are two different things. I would be all over this game again, if they delivered just a fraction of the game they sold us in the Kickstarter.
  8. That's my thought about mining also. The way this game is set up, the majority will have to mine to support the market for the relatively few that does not. And as long as mining is the only way to generate new income, that is how it will stay. And right now there is a catch 22 since anyone starting out or who just want to play the game casually and not invest a lot of time, are the ones stuck with mining. Seems like a very effective way to chase people away from the game, if you ask me.
  9. Here is some shocking information. Hacking is not some intrinsically illegal act. The implication that hacking involves illegal intent is the result of media hijacking the term for their narrative. Hacking (the original term) is just modifying/personalizing something technical outside of the intended usage. So basically it is the same as making DIY modification to something. Like for example adding accessories or getting a paint job for your car. Or reworking your sneakers to make them unique. The word hacking just implies that the modification are of an experimental technical nature, usually related to computes. Like for example game mods. Or adding filters to web pages to remove or add information. Nothing illegal with that. Believe me if Google and friends thought for a second that they could get away with classifying ad blocking as illegal, they would do so faster then you could blink. Hacking as portrayed in the media on the other hand, is doing something technical with the specific intent of gaining some monetary advantage by illegal means. Like for example breaking into a company network to steal and hold information ransom. But people doing this are cyber criminals, not hackers. And to use hacking to imply something illegal the correct term would be a "black hat hacker". https://timrayner01.medium.com/hacking-is-not-a-crime-its-the-key-to-innovating-like-a-startup-1ccd6208563a
  10. The worst part for me (especially during the NDA period), was reading the interviews and looking at videos showing something that did not even remotely resemble the actual state of the game. And then having to read the comments from people looking forward to playing what they heard and saw, remembering how I felt the same in the beginning and knowing the rude awakening headed their way.
  11. If your browser of choice support the uBlock Origin plugin, a simple filter will remove it. It's really great not just for ads, but also to remove unwanted fluff that web designers keep trying to push on us. ! uBlock Origin filter for Dual Univere forum sidebar board.dualthegame.com##.ipsLayout_sidebarright
  12. The one thing I can deduct from that statement, is that if hundreds of players can overwhelm the servers then DU has some SERIOUS scaling issues. Either that or NQ is renting way to few server nodes even for the small number of players we have now. Which when I think about it makes more sense..
  13. Sure, but 0.23 was the rather large straw that broke the camels back.
  14. Historically this is the glacial pace NQ works at, and there has never (since 2016) been any surprise release of any major additional functionality for this game.
  15. A visionary (in this context) is someone who looks at trends in technology to extrapolate their vision. But, here is the important part. Such visionaries must always be ready to modify their vision adapting to changes in technology etc. If not, then the 'vision' will be the first thing that goes out the window when reality hits. This is knowledge that should be ingrained into every experienced software developer out there. Key word being experienced with regard to NQ..
  16. The steep decline in active players after 0.23 would suggest you are in the minority.
  17. That's the point. Mentioning 0.23 may now be considered necro, but NQ still hasn't even completed the first early version of the mission planner. And that is only the first of many steps needed to somewhat mitigate the damage 0.23 did.
  18. I got back some inspiration this month. Meaning I am now able to do the daily 150K login, but that is where I draw the line. As a solo builder and experimenter (mad scientist class if there was such a thing) the 0.23 just utterly destroyed the game for me.
  19. so.. If DU is being added to Geforce Now this month, does that mean DU is supposed to be a released game by then?
  20. Of course there are obligations for Kickstarter projects. Kickstarter will often muddy the water to try and minimize user backlash. But if you look closer there are clear obligations set that campaign owners must deliver on. From the KS terms-of-service: And in the KS campaign accountability sections it says: So while the nature of KS projects makes it so that delivery times and scope is likely to change, it does not mean there aren't any obligations. And while probably not the case with NQ, if and when a campaign chooses to ignore the promises made without just cause it may become a legal matter. https://www.seattlemet.com/news-and-city-life/2015/10/washington-state-sued-a-failed-kickstarter-project-and-won https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/6/18534423/ibackpack-ftc-lawsuit-complaint-indiegogo-kickstarter
