  1. Sup DUveans,

Just stopping by here to say my final farewell to everyone here, in discord, and in game that I had the privilege to be acquainted with or some, to even call friends.

I had a blast being along side everyone of you these past 7 years, watching this community grow from literally 0 members to a whopping 50,000+ of you. I had many fond memories building premature alliances, making in game hostile moves, watching orgs rise and fall, overall, nerding-out over every aspect of Dual Universe.

However, all good things must come to an end. I'm sad to say but due to recent announcements and the overall direction of community aspect of Dual Universe is partaking, per say, I must state my farewell from the community and Dual Universe completely (as a player and as Moderator, in Discord and other platforms). At this point, I'm not enjoying being part of a community that's not being nourished at its fullest or been ignored for so long. (That's just the tip of the iceberg) Regardless, I leave on good terms, hope you all have fun, wishing the best to everyone and Novaquark (Here's hoping for a fast recovery, community-wise)

    As always,
Catch everyone on the flip, but most importantly; Have Fun!

Remember: Comfort: is the enemy of progress

  2. Is not that it won't* happen, It's more probable that perhaps NQ doesn't have any plans to release to GeForce Now as of now... But nobody really knows that, these guys have no special insight into that, so it just pure speculation from them, like my next one.

If I'm correct GeForce only plugs in into existing game stores... Which devs have to individually publish to in the first place ... Steam, Uplay, Origin etc...

Shadow is just a cloud based PC (a glorified but powerful VB that you pay for on top of your internet connection to which you can install to whatever you want and one which you can access anywhere...)

    See the difference?

I was just wondering if duel universe was going to be a monthly subscription kind of thing or just a one of buy game i have heard people say both and just wanted some clarification.

Subscription-based at release with a DAC system...

DACs is a PLEX-like (see EVE online) coupon ticket that lets you add time to your account. Tradeable in-game. So technically you can play and make enough to buy DACs in game and play without spending a single real world dime.

  4. In an MMO like DU... The answer to that question lies in everyone's own personal goals (and their own definition of winning as you've mentioned)

You actually did answer your own question with the questions you asked in the OP.

    For some "winning" constitutes on;

    • Economical Prosperity
    • Military Advantage
    • Political Standings
    • Logistical Wellfare
    • Explorational Knowledge
    • Time Spent
    • Etc...

It honestly depends on the individual and what they are really after. Once they've achieved that, they've hypothetically "won"

I will campaign passionately against this mechanism of that you can be sure. One does not wait 4 years patiently only to find out this game will be a money grab upon lunch.

Mate, I'm probably one of the few here that's been here the longest, since before there was a forum, Kickstarter, or even a website about the game, but one thing is for sure, they've always been 100% clear that DACs will always be thing and buyable with RL currency.

I may sound condescending because I am. Any1 defending p2w needs to be shot down. Ruthlessly. I wonder how JC would defend this p2w model.

There's even an old blog with JC himself explaining why the company chose this model already. It's no one's else fault (and I'm not stating you are blaming others) for you not knowing about this before now, I've you've been here 4 years.

I don't know how you've all been conditioned into thinking DACs are alright. P2w should not be a thing in this game.

As you already stated, you've made up your mind this game is pay to win to you, but that's not going to change the fact that well still be able to buy DACs with RL money and in turn sell them in game for Quanta.

Many have already tried to explain the checks and balances already set in place to prevent serious imbalance that could lead to actual p2w, but you chose to be a wall and ignore those replies. (Why make a topic about this then, if you've already made up your mind).

Anyways, I'll try to still mention that checks and balance again, in the hope of a better conversation. (Ultimately, how you reply to me afterwards will only show the purpose of this whole topic)

    1. Yes, you'll be able to buy DACs with RL currency and sell in game

    2. Yes, no one is denying the fact that a "space whale" "GTA shark" can buy thousands worth of DACs to sell in game

    3. Yes, they can manipulate the in game economy this way (down or up - but is that the whole premise of "player driven economy?)

    4. Yes, they can hoard billions, even trillions, of Quanta by doing this

    5. Yes, they'll be able to buy hundreds of tonnes of materials and ores with that Quanta

    6. No. They won't be able to do anything with that regardless because of the "talent system"

What use will people have with materials/ores they use because they are locked behind skills? You'll need years of skills to be able to masterfully use certain aspects of those materials.(industry professions) and even then... you can't be 100% proficient in all skills as that's impossible.

Everything, from mining ores to crafting to building to USING elements (small, medium, large, XL cores) are locked behind talent systems. Yeah, I'll be able to have billions of Quanta by buying and selling DACs, but I'll have no proper use for it because of skills.

I've tried to understand that your definition of "Pay to win" but it really isn't clear to me - thus I can't really say much more about it.

If you're defining p2w as an economical advantage in regards to Quanta hoarding, I can see you point (but it can easily be refuted by the talent system as I've explained above)

If you're defining p2w as an logistical advantage in regards materials and ores, I can see you point (but again it's easily refutable by the talent system as I've explained above)

We need a different metric where organizations can prove themselves.  The current method we have up has bad incentives thus leading to alt accounts.

If organizations could be measured in terms of quanta or resources then it would actually be something that could be respected and not be cheated.

I'll just quoted myself here again...

You do realize the community portal has been on "phase 1" of it's development since it launch right, and it's not priority 1 for NQ at the moment?

The proof is every orgs member list and the % of owners owning the game and not.

I have many friends that don't own the game but are still part of certain orgs, and are waiting for beta/release ...

Are you telling me that them joining an org they like is not validated by your "opinion" because they don't own the game?

I'll make sure to tell them they are fake members of our community, on your behalf!

  8. You do realize the community portal has been on "phase 1" of it's development since it launch right, and it's not priority 1 for NQ at the moment?

I don't see how this is an issue... Regardless if it gets "fixed" people will still join the biggest org in numbers... But that doesn't mean jack until the game release and those orgs can prove to be stable and active.

    That's why I voted for #2

Let people join and worry about it later.... But if you have DEFINITE proof that orgs are DELIBERATELY inflaitng their numbers by creating ALTS ... Point it to NQ... They'll do a investigation just like they did with DSI, NG, UL and mmtheboss...

Most mmo's have attempted to compensate for this inevitability by having 'money sinks' or regularly introducing new currencies to keep the market from flooding and prices skyrocketing to absurd levels. However, money sinks and new currencies always fail since they underestimate the speed at which players can amass currency (especially when working together in large numbers). I would like to see a mmo do the right thing and learn from the mistakes of the thousands of mmo's that have failed at this in the past, and the solution is simple: cap the currency.

Oh I've seen this for sure in another MMO before, STO, market is so saturated with what we call "space whales" essentially players who amassed high insane amounts of the currency...

It's so bad that the developers are at now at I believe 3 main currencies...

    Energy Credits

    Dilithium

    ZEN

With at least 30 sub currencies.

    12 from 12 different reputations

Like 3 or 4 for Fleet (Organizations) currencies

Lobi (a sub-currency obtained from ZEN a la lottery roulette gamble style lootboxes)

GPL - a gamble like currency

Essentially a pay-to-win model as well, players with money are able to buy bundle and bundles of these.

I do want to see what other details NQ gives us in the upcoming AMA and Podcast, should be an interesting read/listen about the economics in DU... If they do discuss it of course.

  10. 1. The game is currently in Alpha 1

    2. Alpha 1 means no actual economy in the game

    3. A testing economy system will be implemented in Alpha 2 - Dual Evolution with the introduction of factories and markets

    4. An economy system which will then be enhanced Beta - Player Nations having more freedom with the RDMS system fully developed.

Lastly 5. Kinda of hard to categorize a basically non existing economy in Alpha 1 as a "Problem with this game" can it having a missing fiat system.

    Just my 2....5 cents! :P

If it's fine for you that a bot written by someone else than NQ monitors and identifies accs which broke the NDA on the official Du discord run by NQ then that's great. For me it's an issue

I'm not sure if this is just being argued now for the sake of being argued or what, but, this not how the bot works, if fact it's 100% impossible for the bot to do this. I mean the code is all public, it's just a matter of taking some time to actually read it to realize the bot does not monitor NDA breaches, but only checks the forum's profile for the proper tags to grant a Discord account access to those channels...

Monitoring NDA breaches is still left at the moderators expanse. Something that was done even before the Discord was Official. Users breaking NDA were removed and reported to NQ. Not via the bot but via moderators actually reading the channels themselves.

To think that the bot is used for monitoring breaches just baffles me.

But a las. As we've mentioned a million times. Using the linking process the bot provides is not a requirement to use the Discord itself. It only allows users the ability to use the NDA channels in a secure way... And get this... If and ONLY IF they want to use those channels. If you want to use those channels you must prove to the bot that you have proper access. Otherwise, don't. Simple.

    Zero chance for collision/visible damage?

Answer at 9:56 into the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efu_129hI9o&t=596s

Question: Damage: "What will the damage model be like? Will collisions damage ships? Will weapons blast holes in the voxel structure or will ships just have a health percentage?

Answer: That way damage is gonna be implemented most likely in construct vs construct, is that we'll use the fact that every voxel is editable, so you could actually "edit" a hole in it. "an area of destruction." So we will implement a way to select the place where you want to shoot, then you shoot. Based on stats and other skills and the type of weapon damage that you use and the types of protections and the type of materials and all sort of things, there we'll be an amount of damage that happens to the ship. We may try to aggregate the overall level of destruction to give you a visual feedback so that you have an idea of a percentage of destruction, but it would be purely informative.

Things will actually be destroyed, or things will be deactivated if you loose an engine or if you loose a certain weapon. It will just cease to be operational in your construct. So this is aiming to being very realistic.

What we want to have is that collisions between constructs will actually create damage, we could do it technically, but the idea that in terms of gameplay, we don't want people to build some kind of torpedo ship and just slam ships over each other and I don't think this is going to be a great addition to the gameplay but it will certainly be a great addition to the load on the servers, so we favor, rather than that, we favor missiles that will formally be implemented and that will not actually involve physical objects flying. But again the usual "lock and fire" mechanism with the stats behind the scenes."
