Whoa there, I don't know where you've been for the past several years, but NQ has done more than spectacularly on the openness and transparency front. If you think that them having to describe the personal situations of people who may have had issues with their pledges is what is going to define their transparency, I think you're sadly mistaken here.

English (Translator used)   That with the NDA I can accept. What I do not like so well is that NQ does not write to the first test.
For example, you could say how many players have participated in the test, whether the test was as expected, or if further tests were useful on a small scale, or or.     Die Waldfee

Pretty much this. Apart from someone stealing the Legate's actual login credentials (which would be a ban-worthy offense), the only real way for an org to lose something of tremendous value is for the legate to actually surrender the goods, or for claimed tiles to be physically attacked (TU destroyed, and construct cores tunneled-to and destroyed).

If someone is running a democratic org, then I guess the org could get Trumped (where someone tricks people into voting for them, and then actively erodes the org from the top). A military org could suffer from a coup (where a higher-up commander sabotages a tile, destroying a TU and core from within permission'ed areas).

But really the smart way to go is to be the single legate with permission on the structures guarding TU's, and guarding key structure cores, and distribute permissions to other facilities accordingly. Split up treasuries, and divy-up the rights to use those treasuries across several trusted members. Maybe even only play with people you know IRL, or elect only people you know IRL to high positions. There are plenty of mostly low-risk ways to avoid some of this stuff.

I do think though that there is plenty of room for major thefts and security breeches due to cyber warfare in-game. I'm talking character-based hacking and stealth skills, hacking implements, EMP weapons, ID scramblers (to behave anonymously) and ID spoofers (so that you can act with permissions from another specific player). If these implements are in the game, then the org-infiltration espionage and corporate espionage is not necessary for large heists.

oh you could implement a system with just an id or something if you don't have the (In-game!) means to detect his real affiliation/name yet. So you got a "name" nonetheless but no clue who he is. You can then block/report/whatever anyhow.

They'll go for an easy system for release imho, but such a detection system, if well balanced, would be a great addition

Over the player head :P? Showing the correct name to use to post on killboards haha. Either way I hope none this crappy hide their name stuff. If Joe Bob is in front of you I want to be able to display that. That being said if Joe Bob is inside a ship maybe shows the ship name / org name and if not in a Org then owner name?

Megastructures are awesome, but I'm seeing a few flaws in your reasoning and thinking here. The first is that you disregard some projects because they wouldn't be profitable, like a space elevator or a ringworld. You should absolutely consider that people may do things because they can or want to, not because they'll be profitable. It is a game, after all.

You also dismissed several construction projects that would rely on construction mechanics alone, like space elevators and ringworlds, which are already possible in DU because all they need to exist are building mechanics. You then say that projects people do would actually involve other things, like Dyson spheres and black hole farming, which require completely unconfirmed mechanics to actually be profitable.

Nevertheless, I think you're too closely comparing EVE macroengineering projects (which are predesigned with specific benefits) to what people can and might create in Dual Universe, which could be anything, for any reason. Players could continuously add on to a construction in space for years, it doesn't have to be a specific dead set project with blueprints, just something vague that it's a "thing" to go and build whatever on.

The ideas and everything you have here are cool. Nothing against you at all, I don't mean to come off as hostile, I just think you're trying a fit Dual Universe mechanics into a specific EVE economy, which is inappropriate. People in DU can build whatever they want, and as such many people will be driven less by profit and efficiency, and more so by the ability to be artistic, creative, imaginative, and simply to say "because we could".

It is only a matter of time before someone pulling a stunt in EVE gets a RL backlash and may potentially get hurt. I really hope NQ will clearly set boundries as the latest EVE betrayal went way over the line IMO with serious and lasting damage done to so many players. The person who caused all this walks away without any sort of consequence or risk and in fact gets the protection of CCP. He also is allowed to stay on  the player representing council while proven to have been using this RL group to setup and manipulate in game events.

The guy should get a perma ban or at least be kicked off of the council. The "It's only a game" or "it's EVE, these things happen" do no apply here as far as I am concerned. I would be surprised to see him at EVE Vegas next week, even while I know he had the intention to attend.

Welcome to like 90% of the action here in Dual Universe. The meta-game that has developed (I say meta-game, I don't really consider it such) is one that is unprecedented in a game that has yet to be released. We've already witnessed the rise and fall of organizations, the fracturing of others, and continually more organizations are added to the roster every day. I would take a look at DUSleepers.fr , Cinderfall TV, GLSU's Q-Cast, and Kurock's State of Affairs on Outpost Zebra to see just some of the major action that's been happening. Other subjects to explore would be: Terran Union, The Eldritch Nation/Order, Unity League, Cinderfall Syndicate, Vanguard, to name a few.

    Happy sabotaging!

I agree with this assessment. While we can have automated defenses, construct to construct (even if Anti Air), should require to be manned to keep with the intended balance.

And strong community support to a degree should be pushed, we're rebuilding society, not isolated secret societies or everyone's personal cult. But strategy should play the most important role ultimately. If you know that you are going to be up against heavy AA, perhaps you should change how you approach the job. Go for a land assault, sabotage the AA, perhaps use EMP or electrical counter measures etc. Let's not dare dumb  the game down because we see some obstacles.

While we don't actually have any real answers to these questions at this time, I would be very surprised if Air-to-Ground combat wasn't a thing. Keep in mind that buildings and ships are both constructs, and so there's no reason to believe they would function differently in terms of combat and taking damage (besides the fact that buildings are static ofc).

Not necessarily. Buildings could simply be resilient enough that destroying them isn't feasible without significant effort. We don't really know anything about automated defenses at this time, but JC has mentioned them in several interviews, and has specifically floated the idea that they would operate at significantly reduced fighting capacity for balance purposes. However, the main problem with strong automated defenses is that they are impossible to balance in an unstructured game. There's nothing stopping wealthy organizations from buying and installing tons of them all over their territory, thus making themselves impervious to attack from anything besides other major organizations. This would seriously cripple the viability of smaller organizations, not to mention solo players, and would ultimately push many people out of the game.

So, while I sympathize with the desire to have strong defenses that people can't easily defeat, that would ultimately hurt the game. I'm much more in favor of very weak asset protection systems because that forces a more honest and interesting dynamic between players and organizations. If anyone can come along and wreck your stuff at any time, that will foster much more co-dependence and community unity than a system that makes this hard. Strong automated anti-air/ground systems are the antithesis of that.

(this might seem a little off-topic, but I think it's really important to explaining why strong automated defenses and hard-to-kill buildings are bad for the game)

EVE Online is a perfect example of why strong asset protection can be bad in an open-world single-shard game. In EVE there are rather robust systems in place that prevent people from quickly destroying other people's things (the reinforce and timer systems for player structures in particular). This is necessary in EVE because entire organizations can exist in high-security space where their assets are untouchable. However, huge segments of the community abuse this system and spend hours grinding down other people's structures just to piss them off, and they can get away with being this nasty and petty because there's fundamentally nothing anyone can do to stop them. This behavior would not exist if everyone was vulnerable to destruction at any time, because the community would gang up on and annihilate bad actors.

DU could avoid this problem to an extent because virtually all of the game is open to PvP, so DU can (and should) implement a system that forces people to work together for mutual protection. Adding in strong automated defenses and buildings that take hours to kill would make it impossible to retaliate against people who are far stronger than you. For example: It would allow rich and powerful players to grief smaller organizations with impunity, because they could just retreat to their virtually unassailable base where the smaller players have no way of attacking them back. In contrast, If no one is ever really safe, then people will be less willing to make enemies and break other people's things just to be petty, because it could have very real consequences for them. So, going without major asset protection systems will allow us to avoid much of the trolling and nastiness that comes from giving everyone a place where they're relatively untouchable.

Although usually not very active on the forums, I just wanted to take a moment to send out my regards to the ATV team and NQ wishing you both the best of luck this weekend. This test marks a significant milestone in dual universe’s development, and the whole community is praying for your success.
In particular to the ATV team, remember you represent all of us, the players. We share the same hopes and dreams for dual universe but the responsibility to help make them happen falls on your shoulders. How you conduct yourselves over the next two days and the months to come will influence both the quality and timeline of development. For every bug you find, for every concept you critic, you are paving the way forward towards our dream. To my surprise each and every ATV member I have interacted with has been a commendable individual worthy of respect, donating both their time and expertise towards promoting the game. The time has finally come for you to contribute in earnest and show us what you are really made of. I know you will make us all proud.

I invite others to comment below and offer their words of encouragement to our first group of pioneers.

I hope there will be heavy equipment testing/monitoring:
Basically, you have to make sure you have safety systems working properly (unlike Chernobyl).
Make sure cooling fluid/heatsyncs are working.
And of course, overclocking/modifying refineries (down to tweaking "feedrate", increasing conveyor amounts, adding heatsyncs, DUAL-functionality [sorry, but I mean such as Refinery/Assembler or Refinery/Purifier combos, energy types [such as easily accepting normal fuel, mini-nuclear reactor, built in solar panels] and modularity [a longer refinery chain to reach higher temperatures on a conveyor line, and energy efficieny [at the cost of physical materials], yield [talking about higher purification/grade for the same amount of ore, NOT more ore /  and takes longer], and speed [which has lower purification/grade but can mass-produce {great for non-combat structures}]).
That was a huge parenthesis loop. My bad.

And I'm not even beginning on thrusters, water-machines, covfefe machines...

There simply aren't enough resources to tackle such a project.

There has been a suggestion that NQ should add a "creative mode" for building things in game to allow players to create blueprints without physically gathering all the resources first. Even that request was answered with "possibly some time after launch".

There's still a massive amount of development ahead for DU. And all that has to be tested, balanced, optimized and polished.

It would certainly be a nice toy to have, but I'd rather have the game launch 3 months earlier !
