  1. Same, as I imagine many of us are followers of Star Citizen... we're used to it eh Although, I'm pretty sure Dual Universe will be built on strong architecture from the ground up. No need to jumble things together, and create a mess.
  2. I didn't realize these were based off of books! I hate watching shows before books. I normally hate watching them afterwards anyways, but that's just because I know the plot already Definitely going to read the books now though. Don't think I will stop watching the shows though, they are well done. The past few shows by Syfy have been pretty decent. Of course, others not so much... but expanse, killjoys, dark matter... they're pretty good.
  3. $8 for rice?... I thought prices in DC was bad.

I think mines could play a very interesting role in DU.
  5. Agreed, that was my thinking. Unfortunately the laptop can't fit the HB bridge, but hopefully the microstuttering won't be too bad. Surely it can't be as terrible as 7 or so years ago. I've always heard crossfire has a harder time with microstutter.
  6. I've dealt with crossfire before, I imagine (hope?) SLI will be similar. Crossfire was pretty easy to handle, if SLI is as well I should hopefully be fine. This was a long time ago though lol. Haven't had to deal with two cards in a long time due to the fact that one card is almost always sufficient for 1080p. I DID have problems with microstutters, which was REALLY annoying. But I was under the impression that was a thing of the past? I actually think I will get a single 1070 for now, and then when the next generation comes out I will see if clevo will sell a second 1070 for a discount. A 1070 should hopefully be sufficient for most games, at least for now. Still not entirely sure if I want to go with 1080s or 1070s. Figured I would have less thermal problems with the 70s
  7. Clevo p870dm3. I wasn't asking about whether or not the computer could utilize 4K. I just wanted to make sure there wouldn't be any problems with 4K that does not deal with performance. If by chance I can't run a game on 4K, I want to make sure scaling won't be an issue is all. I've already looked at benchmarks for the laptop, and I am impressed Considering the 4K is cheaper than the 1440p that is available on another site... I think I'm inclined to get the 4K. Thanks guys! Appreciate the help
  8. In agreement. Hoping they have an optional DAC sub where you can just subscribe, but pay the price of a dac per month rather than the usual sub. Obviously you can just buy a DAC a month... but I like automatic
  9. Not even sure if you guys will be able to help me out, but figured I'd throw it out there anyway. Little background: I want to purchase a laptop (I already have a desktop) that can handle anything I throw at it. I travel a lot and being without my computer is getting quite old. Anywho, the laptop I am looking at comes with three different screen options 1080p, 1440p, and 4k. Ideally, I would get the 1440p option, however, the website I wish to purchase it from only has the 4k option. Which is strange, as with their 5% off coupon it reaches $100 lower than the 1440p option on another site lol. The problem: When 1440p and 4k first came out there were issues with scaling to the screen size in Windows (especially for windows). This would cause severe aesthetic issues in various games and lead to undesireable gameplay. I'm not sure if it matters, but the screensize is 17.3 inches in this case. Quick search found the issue on a monitor from 2 years ago: http://www.pcgamer.com/the-secret-problem-with-4k-display-scaling/ The question: Is this problem still prevalent on laptops? Is it an issue that's easy to fix if it IS a problem? This would be my first time getting a screen over 1080p. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: I've also heard that 4k is worthless on such a small screen. Which makes a lot of sense, but being that it's cheaper than the alternative... should I still go with it?
  10. Right I figured they would implement it with the next store iteration, which I thought was going to be in January... meaning I could easily just wait for that ^^ Looks like it will be a bit longer, however. Wouldn't mind if they threw in the ability to buy DACs separate from the packs. I'm sure that would bring in a bit more funding
  11. I'm not sure if I'm alone in this, however, I truly would like to continue to chip in for the completion of this amazing universe. However, I am currently sitting at a level which I am content. How difficult would it be to implement DAC purchases into the crowdfunding store? Perhaps even add a "subscription" model that adds a DAC per month that you are subscribed. Furthermore, there could be a system where you could subscribe for multiple DACs a month, if you wished to contribute that much. Say a DAC costs x. The sub would cost x a month, but you could get a 2x sub for a similarly incremented DAC amount. Or maybe a subscription that has various perks other than DACs, something more tangible I guess. Who knows... Just want another form of supporting the game, without purchasing package after package ^^ tldr; There's something special about supporting the game in an incremental basis. I do it for Star Citizen, I would love to have a similar setup here
  12. Even when they close the current, they will be opening a new store.
  13. Did you use the same email linked to the Kickstarter on the forums? You should already automatically get the title. If not, send support an email. They will help you get your Kickstarter linked to the main site. The forum title is in the only reward out at the moment, the rest will come within a year or two I imagine. The alpha (arguably the most important reward) will probably be sometime this Spring/Early Summer.
  14. My thoughts exactly... but every single laptop seems to come with the overclockable variant... this means that they not only have a processor that can be overclocked (+$50 right there), but they have a motherboard that has the capability to be overclocked. I have no idea how much would be saved if they went without the overclocking capabilities, but I have to believe it would at least be over $100. Making a 1900 computer, 1800. Might not seem like much, but it would definitely get you a leg up over a competitor. Heck, that would convince me to go with a 1440p screen over the standard FHD. I know that MSI has a watercooling block that can be attached to the back of some models. Not sure what the model was, or if that was just a concept... but I know they were working on it awhile ago when they introduced the 980 desktop GPUs into their laptops. But man, I am impressed with that Clevo... you're paying about $500 for putting the components into a laptop. Which granted, is a lot of money... but it used to be a lot worse! Heck, putting those components in a mini itx would probably cost $1600... just because mini itx boards with overclocking capabilities tend to run on the spendy side, as do the cases. You used to pay the same premium for a less powered machine.
  15. Did some research into what's available these days: If it's a laptop you want, I'd go with something like this: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9172-clevo-p775dm3-g.html?startcustomization=1 Has a desktop CPU and a desktop GPU... 8 pounds though, almost double the Razer. Still, that's impressive! Well done review: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Eurocom-Sky-X7E2-Clevo-P775DM3-Notebook-Review.178427.0.html One thing to note, the review was done on a computer with an i7 6700k, which is less powerful than the i7 7700k ^^ http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-6700K/3647vs3502 I didn't even realize the 7xxx was released! The i7 7700 is literally 20% faster than the i5 6500. However, it's only 3% faster than the i7 7600. As an aside, anyone know if it's even worth overclocking in a laptop? Like why do they stuff overclockable components in something so compact?
  16. The 980 is 4% more powerful in gaming (than the 970). We will have to agree to disagree I suppose. 2.5% more powerful in graphics. Overall it's 5% more powerful. Trust me, the CPU would be more worthwhile. Another FYI: Why are we even suggesting the 900 series? A $300+ card ($300 is a very conservative number for the 980 chip) costs over $100 more than the rx 480, and is a smidge less powerful. I should also mention the 1060 is as powerful as the rx 480. The rx 480 is just slightly cheaper, so if you want to get a Nvidia card, which is everyone's choice... get the GTX 1060. (If you want a card in the $200 range). You could also get a slim laptop with a beefy cpu and consider an external GPU: I can't find many comparisons between eGPUs and GPUs... I'm not sure if performance is lost in the eGPU setup or not. Well, I mean it obviously is... but I'm not sure if that's because there's a bottleneck on the CPU, or if actually performance is lost in the connector. *shrug* Edit: It's not the FPS we're entirely worried about when it comes to CPU power, it's how much can our computer handle until the FPS is affected? What I mean by this, is that you can load 10-15% more ships and clutter on screen before you start being hit performance wise. THAT is what I think a powerful cpu is necessary for. So large space battles with an i7 7700? Not a problem. However, in this 7th generation or w/e the 7700 is not worth it over the 7600... http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700-vs-Intel-Core-i5-7600/3887vs3890
  17. Last generation I would probably agree with you, but the i7 6700 is about 10-15% more powerful depending on the game (It's about 12% more powerful in benchmarking). If you get the i7 6700k, well... overclocking that beast is a wonderful thing. However, you are right... it's $100 more, but you do get benefits outside of raw power in photo editing/computational mumbo jumbo. 10-15% isn't something to be laughed at, especially when the CPU could be the potential bottleneck in bleeding edge games... like SC/DU. The better the CPU, the more ships you will be able to have on screen before lagging ^^ As for a laptop, I wouldn't consider Alienware as the best coarse of action. I would look at a Razer. Razer's are probably the slimmest laptops you can get with DESKTOP graphics cards. The CPU will still be lacking, but... you win some, you lose some $2000 Razer gets a 1060 (which is about 10% more powerful than the 480 I mentioned). However, the CPU is an i7 6700HQ, which is significantly less powerful than a desktop CPU. However, for a laptop it is a phenomenal option, clocking out at only 4 pounds. You can also get a laptop with a 1080 stuck inside of it, but you would end up paying 2x the price for like 20% gains. And a laptop that is 2 pounds heavier. Another option is the Gigabyte Aorus, which is very similar to Razer's lineup, but a little cheaper! However, their build quality isn't up to snuff sometimes.
  18. I wouldn't suggest pre-shopping for parts, as it will be awhile before the game is online... which means, you will be able to better evaluate what you need at that time. I would just suggest putting aside money into a proverbial cookie jar, a little here... a little there. And then when the game hits, you can see if it runs on your computer or not. Now, if you want to get a new computer now... not because of Dual Universe... I would go with an RX 480, and an i7 6700 processor. The RX 480 performs about on the same level as the GTX 980, but it's about 50 dollars cheaper. However, if you have money to spend... obviously you can go with a 1080 TI or some such, and get all the power you need. Then, you just need a motherboard, RAM, fans, and a case.. but unfortunately, most of those are personal preference. However, with all that said... if you just want to buy a computer for Dual Universe... definitely wait. * As an aside, I really like mini itx builds... so my recommendations for cases/mobos would fall under that category... but it would really depend on your personal preference. Do you want a bulky computer that can support multiple cards down the line? Or do you want a slim build, you can only upgrade via replacing in? ** As for RAM, I would suggest something from CORSAIR, just make sure it's LGA 1151 ddr4 RAM. It's a laptop, so unfortunately it's highly unlikely he will be able to simply swap parts out. 1.) . It's really difficult, and only works if the system has an unsoldered graphics card... which I don't think macs have. 2.) . Getting a mobile chip is extremely overpriced, and hard to obtain. **************** As another aside, we should also know if you are planning to build the computer or not... I assumed you were, as it's a really simple process! Many Youtube videos to figure it out, and save about $200 that other companies over charge for putting it together... And you know for a fact the case/etc. is what you want. Some assembly websites have a lot of options, but you don't know exactly what the physical aspects of the machine are until it's assembled at your door ^^

    Cloaking device

I haven't read the entire thread, I plan to do so in a bit... but in a bit of a jam at the moment! I personally think that, in order to equipped a stealth drive of some kind... you should be forced to put less powerful guns on in addition to not being able to fire them when the stealth is activated. Or weaker engines... or weaker shields, whatever. That the stealth device would take up extra energy even when not in use.
  20. I'd start saving for a new computer, and then when alpha hits... you can try your current computer, and if it doesn't work out... you have the funds to fix that. If it DOES work decently well, you have some extra spending cash to do whatever with... or save.
  21. I think they also take a cut of the sales, not sure how this plays out with a subscription model... but it's something to be considered. I mean it's expected, considering they're providing a substantial service. If the sub isn't done through steam, do they still take a cut of the sales?

    Ingame Names

Names HAVE to be unique in this game, as it is the main tie to your reputation. I think you should be able to change your name, I suppose... but it would require a new character. ie.) Delete the one your on, and start anew. This would cause skills to be reset, and all that jazz.
  23. Tomorrow! Jk ;P I'd have to guess July 14th, near the Fourth of July... but they're from France, so they don't give two jigglies. So added 10 days.
  24. Mid-Atlantic east coast here, so somewhere around the DC area would be superb ^^ NYC would even be feasible for me, 4 hour drive isn't too bad. (Live in DC).
  25. I already won, as it was determined a few pages back. I was voted as the winner, unanimously.
